I’ve always been curious about the popularity of hockey romances. After seeing my first hockey game this past November I started to understand. When the opportunity came up to review Maybe This Summer by Jennifer Snow it seemed like the perfect chance to give hockey romances a whirl.
Maybe This Summer brought together two scarred individuals. One didn’t let their scars define them while the other still tried to keep them hidden. There isn’t much time for plot development in a novella and things tend to progress quickly. I would have loved to have spent more page time with Owen and Paige. In the small page count Snow packs a big punch. I loved watching Owen and Paige circle each other, the parts with Bernie, the burn victim survivors, and the glimpses into the sporting world. The pace kept the story moving.
Owen is a former hockey player/vet and publicity/promotions manager for the Colorado Avalanche hockey team. He also is the team’s mascot. I loved Owen’s sense of humor. He’s a bit of a dope where women are concerned. Strangely enough, at times, it only added to his charm. Paige’s story is a sad one but it offered hope too. Paige had mostly healed from her past but still held herself back in hopes of avoiding being hurt again. She just needed an extra push to make it through those last barriers. There were some secondary characters but the only one that stood out was Isabelle, Paige’s mother. Her presence in the novella helped add to Paige’s back story.
Maybe This Summer is a series novella but it read as a stand alone. Now I’m just curious about the rest of the series. This was a good way to pass a few summer hours.
The last thing Owen was prepared for at the Burn Center was Paige and her beauty. Owen is a hard working guy that has had a chance to live iut some of his dreams but they keep getting cut short. Now he spends a great deal of time hiding behind Bernie, the team mascot. He is slightly insecure but knows what he want and fights for it. And right now that is closed off Paige.
Paige is still struggling with her self after the horrible incident that changed her life. She is trying very hard to be out there and encourage those who are feeling her same pain but she still hides her physical reminders. It is a constant battle between her head and her heart. She feels she has lost her beauty and doesn't deserve love and happiness as a result. This causing her to continue to push Owen away.
Will Paige learn to let him in? Will it be too late now even is she does? Can they let the past got amd move toward a future?
I did enjoy the story but felt it could have been so much more. Sometimes I have that problem with a Novella. I wonder why these characters didn't deserve a full book and more time for us to fall in love with them. I look forward to the next installment.

He seems to always be over shadowed by his "hot" looking friends, as they are slowing going off the market Owen realizes he just might not find the "one". When he goes to a meeting and he runs into the women of his dreams he starts to wonder if Love at first sight is real.
Paige is not looking for anything from anyone unless they can help her with the kids in her burn unit. When she comes face to face with Owen he make her "feel". Something she hasn't done in ages. Can she come out of her shell and start believing in her self?
I love this series of books. I can't wait to dive into the other books. This group of friends and family just have a way of getting to the heart of the matter and making you enjoy the books. This book though short didn't feel like it was missing anything. I really enjoyed the way the author does not even try to make any of the character in the book perfect but all of them have flaws and heartache. This book does have adult scene in it, not graphic but its there, other then that it was nice to read a book were not every other word was a curse word. This was a quick read and so worth it. I think this series would be a fun summer read for anyone.
I fell in love with this book from the first words. I have loved the other books by this author and this one was no different. Owen and Paige were perfect for each other. They both have issues they are trying to overcome. But will they learn that trying together is much better than being alone?
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
This was a great but short addition to this series by Jennifer Snow. I really and truly liked the story line and the hero/heroine so much!! When Owen & Paige meet, it truly must be fate because they have both gone through some horrible tragedies in their lives that have shaped them into the people they are now and they are both in need of healing. I loved watching the two of them, although one faster than the other, learn to love and trust again and be able to put themselves fully out there with each other. The story had some funny moments but it was mainly a sweet, heartwarming and beautiful love story!

Maybe This Summer by Jennifer Snow was a sweet and heartfelt read.
I enjoyed the plot and the characters were likable and easily relatable.
I loved watching the relationship between Owen and Paige unfold, he was sweet, understanding and just an overall lovely guy who knew what he wanted and went after it.
Paige was a little harder to warm to but I did feel for her and totally got her insecurities.
It warmed my heart how Owen made her feel and how he saw beyond the scars to see her inner beauty.
Overall, Maybe This Summer is a quick, sweet and heartwarming read that will bring out the feels. A perfect summer read and I highly recommend it.

I just loved this story, it was so sweet and heartwarming. Both Owen and Paige were both victims of horrible circumstances. They both suffered from self-esteem issues and their worth. I really enjoyed watching both learn to love, trust and open their hearts to let love in. This was an amazing story and very well written. Even though it is a short story it is packed full of emotions. I can't wait for more from this author.
RATING 4.5 STARS
Maybe This Summer is book #2.5 in the Colorado Ice series by Jennifer Snow. I believe this little book has such an important message, one of self worth. That outer beauty is not the most important but the inner beauty, strength and grace one possesses is what is really important.
Paige Adams had been a successful model, her picture featured in the most well known magazines. But suddenly, through the hate and jealousy of another, it is all taken away from her. Now, five years later, Paige is in charge of raising funds for the children’s burn center at the hospital. She helps children and their families make the transition into the proper care when they are still floundering while accepting the circumstances of their children’s injuries. Paige, though, is still struggling with her own scars. She constantly wears turtlenecks and blazers to keep her arms and neck covered. Even after all these years, she still struggles with the changes in her outer appearance. She hasn’t allowed herself any romantic entanglements since her attack. But for the first time in a long time, when Owen McConnell walked in to her office, she got butterflies.
Owen is both team promotions manager for the Colorado Avalanche hockey team, he is also the team mascot. He dresses up as a Saint Bernard and brings smiles to everyone’s faces. Once upon a time, Owen was part of the team. But then he enlisted and was severely injured by a road side bomb. He can no longer play on the team now but he can still be a part of it.
As soon as he laid eyes on Paige, he felt a connection. But she is dressed in a full turtleneck and it’s the middle of summer. Isn’t she miserably hot?! He has to know if this attraction or chemistry is going both ways so he convinces Paige to have a drink with him. Due to some poor judgment calls, though, the date started out spectacularly, but things most definitely did not end well.
Paige thought for a minute there that she could open herself up to this man. But then she was rudely reminded why she couldn’t trust a man with her scars that are both on the outside and on the inside. Owen messed up badly. And that was it. She tried and it didn’t work.
But Owen does not give up easily. He will show her that he is sincere. He will get her to give him a second chance. Because the more he knows of this woman, the more he sees the real her, the beautiful woman she is, he falls a little bit more in love with her. Owen has plenty of scars of his own. Who better to understand what she is going through than someone that has experienced it himself.
I loved this little story. I love that Jennifer Snow chose to put a spotlight on both the hard road children are faced to travel every day who have suffered. Also, how our hero and heroine who are both victims of hate, have had to find themselves all over again, learn all over again their worth, find their inner self-confidence. And most importantly, to learn to trust, to love, to open their hearts to someone knowing that they love them because they are beautiful, both on the outside and on the inside.
Jennifer Snow writes the perfect romances. They are down to earth, charming, and filled with wonderful characters. In this one, we meet a heroine that is likely to inspire us all. If only she could take her own advise... The hero is his own inspiration as well, and will make readers swoon and giggle at his attempts for love. Now, while this may be a novella, the characters come to life in the perfect way. Sometimes, this is hard considering the stories are not very long, but Jennifer Snow was successful in making a shorter story feel like it had everything it needed.
Fans of the author, and this series (filled with heartwarming characters to make you swoon for days) I recommend you reading this one. It's truly a lovely story and has everything you will need to keep your romance needs in check.

Jennifer Snow’s fun hockey series continues in Maybe This Summer. We all have masks we hide behind, such as it were. In the case of Owen McConnell it is in the form of the Avalanche mascot Bernie, a large, fluffy St. Bernard. Paige Adams, on the other hand, hides behind turtlenecks and scarves. Together they will see that letting their masks fall is the most healing of all. If anything, this book was too short. I wanted to see more of Paige and Owen’s relationship develop. I’m hopeful we will see more of them in future books to see how things are progressing.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novella.
A fun and enjoyable read with engaging and "real" characters. Starting as friends and evolving to more, the story is filled with wit and evenly paced. Add a bit of spice--and it is totally fulfilling as a happy every after read! Thank you so much for the opportunity to have read this book prior to publication!
This sweet and touching read is centered around Owen McConnell and his beautiful counterpart Paige Adams. Owen is often overlooked at team events being alongside all of his good looking and famous hockey player friends, and just once he'd like to catch someone's eye, have them pay attention to him for a change. Then he meets Paige and all bets are off, she is beautiful, smart, and needs help raising funds for her charity... and for once Owen feels like he is the perfect man for the job... with a little convincing of course. Paige tries her best to keep things just business between her and Owen, but before long Owen's quirky and charming personality starts to change her mind... and when it does the sparks start to fly!
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, the moment Paige and Owen appeared on the page I was completely taken with them, they charmed their way into my heart almost immediately. Their heartwarming journey gifted me with a few smiles, a few swoons, and many laughs,.. it was really a fun read!!
If you are looking for heartwarming read rich with emotion, steamy romance, and a little humor sprinkled in here and there, then I suggest you make a visit to the Colorado Ice Series, I promise you will be happy with what you find!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
Paige, a burn victim, hides her scars and herself from the world. She raises money for the burn unit but doesn't date, doesn't ever let her scars show until she meets Owen, the mascot!
Not having read anything else in this series, I’m not sure why Owen never gets the girl. He’s sexy, funny, and caring. Sure, it would be easy to get overlooked by the puck bunnies who are only after the players but I would think that there would be some smart woman out there who was looking for something a little different.
Lucky for Paige, he hasn’t been found yet. Instead he turns all of that heart, charm and determination on her. And he’s going to need it because she’s a tough nut to crack. Having been the victim of a brutal attack she’s not quite gotten her confidence back - years later she is still covering up her scars and hiding from the world, afraid to put herself out there in any form. But when Owen sets his mind on winning a date, she finds it harder and harder to resist him.
It takes some doing but eventually he’s able to convince her to give him a chance. (The way that he gets her to agree to go out for drinks is CLASSIC … and so is the crash and burn that comes next :) ). With support from her mom, there may be hope that he can claim her heart. And help her find her belief in herself again while he’s at it.
Because the story really focuses on Paige and her issues with getting involved it didn’t matter much that this was the first in the series that I read. It’s going to be emotional for her but it’s definitely time that she let her past go and embrace her future. Not an easy thing to do but with a bit of help she can find a way to embrace the strong, beautiful woman she is today.
Yes please! I couldn't get enough of, Maybe This Summer. It is an inspirational book with a sexy mascot to boot.
This story is will pull at your heartstrings! Paige and Owen both have tragedy in their pasts looking foe a way to forge a future. This story is very well written and the characters will speak to you and make you feel what they are going through. At times it broke my heart while also putting a smile on my face! Loved it!!
I loved the previous books in this series so when I received an ARC I was ecstatic! I will admit there was a smidgin of doubt in my mind because, well, the hero dresses up as a giant dog for a living. So I was curious to see how they turned that into something sexy and admirable in a hero and I'll admit Jennifer Snow pulled it off.
There were several times when I had to laugh out loud at Owen and times he made me cringe but he was such a sweet hero that he definitely won my heart.
Paige's character was a bit more complicated for me to come to terms with. I felt sorry for what she had gone through and thought it was admirable that she turned a tragedy into such a rewarding career. However, it did bother me with how much she still tied her physical appearance to her worthiness. She deals with burn victims all the time in her job and yet she's still ashamed of her own scars and keeps them covered all the time. Yes, we are told that she's still working through her own trauma and how to come to terms with it but it bothered me that it took a guy praising and accepting her scars and all to overcome her insecurities. I would have liked to see her grow some more on her own and come to a realization separately that it's not her physical appearance that mattered.
The romance is pretty much insta-love which is a pet peeve of mine but which I've come to accept is the only way you can really get a romance into such a short story. Despite those couple niggling aspects this is a fun read that you can easily finish in one sitting and makes the perfect pool side read.
Light, sweet and kind of humorous at times, love can sneak up on people when they least expect it! Paige is model beautiful, but a twisted attacker ruined her career in the most hideous of ways. Now she feels her beauty is gone and has been unable to connect with any man, because he will see her physical flaws. Her life is spent making sure other burn victims will have the best chance to learn to emotionally accept their new bodies, as well as the medical expertise to repair the damage. Too bad she cannot follow her own advice of acceptance.
Owen has his own scars, earned in battle and now he hides his insecurities under the guise of the Colorado Avalanche’s mascot. Seeing Paige completely unglued the charmer with the sense of humor, but she shoots down every attempt he makes at getting a date. In a romance that becomes a battle of wills, Owen will do all he can to let Paige know he sees more than her physical beauty, just as Paige does all she can to resist the man who got under her skin.
Jennifer Snow’s MAYBE THIS SUMMER is a short, but sweet tale of love that may not get too deep or detailed, but certainly makes one almost swoon at Owen’s quirky attempts to get Paige into his life. Owen was almost childlike in his persistence while Paige was a tough nut to crack, far too concerned with the scars she easily covers from the public, not realizing that just maybe Owen was taking a huge leap to even come forward. Still, a fun read to brighten a cloudy day when realizing what both of these characters give to others in need in their own way.

On this occasion I won't be leaving a review. This is not a negative reflection on the author but is down to the publisher.
Maybe This Book is actually very cute. But Maybe This Book was a little short (since it was a novella). And Maybe That's Why it doesn't get five stars from me.
In short: Maybe This Summer is a sweet and short story about Owen McConnell, the P&R guy for the Colorado Avalanche's hockey team, who has an alter ego as Bernie, the team mascot. Owen is used to be surrounded by famous hockey players, who receive all the attention. For instance, his best friend Ben Westmore, who isn't single any more, since Maybe This Love...
When Owen meets Paige, he is determined to get to know her better. But Paige tries to maintain a professional distance. And this is where the story Maybe is a bit thin. After one meeting Owen decides that Paige is the one for him. And he starts his pursuit of her. But Paige is scarred, not only physically but also mentally. And she tries her best to keep Owen at an arms length.
For me, it was a bit over the top in how Owen decided directly that Paige was the one. For the rest of the story, the characters were absolute lovely and the way how Owen tries to persuade Paige to go out with him are definitely hilarious. Especially when Owen gets stuck between his blind date and his drink with Paige.
The story invites you to read the rest of the Colorado Ice series, to see how the Westmore brothers (and sister) meet the loves of their lives. So four out of five stars from me. With a special thank you to Forever Yours and Netgalley for providing the arc.
