I always enjoy a sports romance-y book and I loved this premise, so I was pretty eager to get to it.

I liked Paige and Owen well enough. They both have a backstory that they don't want to talk about. She wants to hide and he wants to be seen and it was intriguing to see if a balance could be made.

Plot wise, it was a lot of push and pull. I struggled with Paige because her actions were so frustrating. The pacing was so quick that I didn't really see their instant connection or any sort of chemistry, but there were a few sweet scenes between them.

Overall, it was an interesting set up with a lot of promise. I think the story could have been a bit stronger if it would have been a full length instead of a novella. Regardless, I am interested in other books in the series.

This book was beyond wonderful. It is a novella but it really felt like a full story. It was a really wonderful story and much deeper than I was expecting. It does have some instalove and the hero does do a douche/jerky thing but its also a love story about looking deeper and falling in love.

This story features Owen who looks like a marketing nerd but is a former seal who is now the team mascot. He meets Paige s she is planning a fundraiser for her job a Burn Center. At first glance Paige is beautiful and Owen thinks she is a goddess and she'd never want someone like him.

Paige is hiding, she has some big secrets and she keeps saying no to dates with Owen. So when she finally says yes he majorly and I mean MAJORLY screws up. He does one of the worst things I have seen a hero in a book do and he knows it. And well after that Paige won't give him the time of day and I LOVED that about her.

Owen meanwhile, gosh he is there for her. Even when she has no idea. I mean you can really feel how hard he falls for Paige and what he does, OMG it was just so wonderful I seriously forgave him and well when Paige finds out....

Anyways this is a total favorite. It was such a great book and beyond romantic. I cannot wait to read more.

Maybe This Summer is another example of what makes Jennifer Snow an amazing writer. She takes the Colorado Avalanche Mascot, Bernie the St. Bernard, or Owen as he is know to his friends, on a journey to help and to fall in love with a lovely, scarred former model. She is passionate about the burn unit at the hospital where she works tirelessly to help burn victims, especially the children. She does not use her former name so as not to draw attention to herself or her situation, but to place emphasis on the kids.

Upon their meeting, Owen has no idea who Paige is, much less, that she is the victim of an attack that left her scarred. He just knows he feels drawn to her. Owen has already accepted his own disabilities due to his military service, but realizes Paige is still affected emotionally, as well as, physically by hers. She still dresses to cover up her scars. Paige’s lack of confidence and desire to hide her situation is keeping her from being the lovely person she still is regardless of scaring.

Owen’s job as mascot to the Colorado Avalanche, kind of leaves him in the background compared to his friends. He accepts the lack of recognition as part of his life. What he does want is to be recognized by Paige as someone for whom she could come to care.

Ms. Snow, again, does a great job of making her characters real without being silly or unbelievable. They seem to have real world problems, real world hurts and real world challenges. Maybe This Summer is definitely a stand alone, but is great read in the series, too.
