Oh this was a fun time. I know that reading a Christmastime book in August seems odds, but I had been reading the other ones, so it only made sense to finish them out. I hadn't seen a lot of Asher in the other books (though I did miss Ben's), but I loved watching him realise that his best friend might be more than just a friend. I do wish we had gotten to see them get together, but in a way, this was better because it allowed us to watch their relationship in the middle. We weren't just seeing the honeymoon phase, if you will.
I will say that I was missing a bit of closure at the end of the book and there were a few things that probably could have been taken care of with an epilogue.
I really love this series! Book three is all about Asher Westmore and his best friend Emma. They've known each other for 10 years but Emma is starting to feel more for Asher than just their agreement of being friends with benefits.
When Asher gets hurt and the two of them start spending more time with each other than the occasional night here or there when Asher is in town, the two of them start to see their relationship in a whole new light. The only problem is do they see it the same way?
Asher is the typical guy, not seeing what he has until it is threatened to be taken away from him. Emma is the girl who doesn't know what to do, follow her heart or what everyone else seems to see but her.
I really enjoyed their story and only wished there would have been an epilogue to see what happened next. Hopefully, that means there may be more Colorado Ice stories coming in the future? I highly recommend this book and this entire series!
This story is further proof that men are not so bright when they lead with the wrong head, or at least when they try to convince themselves that is what they are doing. This latest story about one of the Westmore brothers, hockey legends and men that have no problems finding women until the one woman they want for life finds them, was a challenge to read. Mainly because it reminds me of the thick-headedness of so many men. Jennifer Snow has a way of creating characters that are perfectly believable in their behaviors and putting them into situations that challenge them to change their spots, or in this case prove that they have been hiding their true colors all along. Emma has been in love with Asher for as long as she can remember but she refused to hold him back or give up her own dreams so he could live his, but when their friendship became something more they continued to hook up whenever the chance permitted. But when a catastrophe leaves Asher sidelined in his hometown and in need of Emma’s skills as a healer he never imagined that his feelings for her would be impossible to hide, even from himself. I fully appreciated the predicament that Emma found herself in and wasn’t sure how I would have handled it myself, but I do know that she was a woman determined to do everything she could so that the love of her life never had to give up his dreams; that kind of sacrifice makes her a great woman in my book, much better than me for sure. Some might say that she was silly to give up her own dreams for Asher’s but I have always believed that when you truly love someone you will give up any and everything to see them succeed and find their happiness, even if it means it isn’t with you. Asher was too much for me at times and I wanted to slap some sense into him, but his petulance was finally forgivable when he showed that he was really just terrified of losing Emma altogether. Asher has loved her for so long, hiding that feeling until they both could meet their professional goals, keeping the hope and love buried until what his brain thought was the right time to explore it fully. Of course that was his real problem; the brain knows nothing about love and should never lead an emotional decision. I enjoyed seeing Asher and Emma rubbing against one another, every now and then rubbing the wrong way and causing some friction, but mostly proving to one another they truly were meant to be. The heat between them is unmistakable and I can honestly say that I don’t understand how they kept their friends and families from knowing about them for so long. There were also a lot of growing pains for these two in their own rights in this story and I loved the way they blossomed individually as well as a couple, finding their way in the world despite obstacles and drama. Jennifer Snow makes the most mundane of topics and settings fascinating and I find myself really wanting to travel to Colorado to find myself a sexy hockey hottie. Thanks for another round of fun Jennifer.
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley and Forever Publishing in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. I am sucker for romances and books about sports so when I was grazing through Netgalley looking for future books and christmas books to come out I found "Maybe this Christmas" by Jennifer Snow. From the cover to the synopsis both items grabbed my attention right away. Who doesn't like reading about a hot hockey player?
So when I first starting reading the book I have to admit that I wasn't sure that I was going to be a fan as it kind of sounded cheesy and unrealistic... However, once I got a couple chapters in I really saw the development of the characters and the storyline grow. It wasn't just a friends with benefits story but more about finding out what matters most to you in your life and who you surround yourself with.
I think Jennifer did a great job of developing the characters and the storyline. I think that a little more could have been done with the supporting characters but that might just have to do with me having not read the first two books in this series.
Although this wasn't my favorite holiday read of this season I do think it was well written and very easy to read and follow.
If you are looking for a book to read during your christmas break or during these cold snaps that our country is seeming to have this book is a great fit!
I never liked Hockey but after this book, I respect the players more. I learned to like Asher maybe not at first because he was self-medicating but throughout the book, he really won my heart and Emma's. I enjoyed the crossroads that Emma faced and Asher's reaction to was realistic and emotion - filled.
I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.
Maybe This Christmas by Jennifer Snow is a fun, steamy romance that kept me up all night until I finished it. I adored this story and everything in it! Two friends who suddenly find themselves in love and wanting to make a go of their relationship….it was done perfectly.
Emma Callaway is head over heels in love with her best friend and she doesn’t know what to do about it. She does know that their friends with benefits arrangement can’t continue because it will eventually break her heart. The question is how does she tell Asher that.
Asher Westmore is one of the hottest stars in the NHL and about to hit a major career milestone when an injury puts him on the sidelines. The only bright spot is that Emma is a physical therapist. Not only can she get him out on the ice faster than anyone else she brings light to all his life. The only problem she’s ready to settle down and start a new path in her life and he isn’t.
Asher is a swoon-worthy idiot. From the first chapter in his POV, the readers know what he does not: that he is in love with Emma. This man can’t take his eyes off his best friend, he can’t wait to share every detail of his day with her, yet he’s a commitment phobe. This aspect of Asher’s personality irritated me. He’s got everything he wants until he realizes that Emma may leave him. It’s like this detail is what kicks his butt into action, it forces him to realize his feelings. Emma is no better. I wanted to reach through the pages and strangle her. Honestly this book could have ended after five chapters if the two main characters would have actually communicated their feelings.
Despite my frustration with their miscommunication, I did love their story. It’s sweet with steamy chemistry and I loved how easy it was for the two best friends to move into a more permanent relationship. I loved the tension and even the drama associated with it. While this book is the third in the series, it can be read as a standalone, but do know that other characters from previous books make an appearance here and cause minor spoilers for those books. (Don’t worry, I haven’t read those yet either and these things are not going to stop me from reading them.) If you enjoy steamy, best friend romance, I highly recommend you read this book!
Emma Callaway is in love with her best friend and she’s afraid to tell him. They have been a friends with benefits relationship for years. Asher Westmore is focused on his hockey career about to hit his milestone game until his brother bashes him in the wall rendering him injured. Asher wants to get back on the ice as fast as possible and he knows Emma the physical therapist will be the one to help him. He enjoys their free of complications relationship looking forward to when he’s done with hockey to having a future with Emma. Emma has to decide if she’s going to wait or move on without Asher.
In an Oyster Shell – A steamy romance with a good storyline.
The Pearls – I don’t like sports but I do like a good sports novel every once in a while. Hockey is the only sport I’ve ever gotten into and I love a good hockey story. This book fits that bill!
The characters were well done. I loved Emma in some ways she was subdued but she was fierce in her stances. Subtle at times but profound in the end. She gave Ahser a run for his money and it made for a good read.
The romance was fun starting out as friends and ending up as something more. The romance endured great tensions that made for a great narrative.
Maybe This Christmas was a fantastic story !!! I cant wait to see what Jennifer Snow writes next !!
Thank you NetGalley for the copy of Maybe This Christmas by Jennifer Snow that I read and reviewed.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a sweet romance with a sports twist that I also enjoyed. I have not read any of the previous books in the series so this is a stand alone but the others would have helped with character information.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable romance and I am giving it four out of five stars.
This has been the perfect hockey series where there was exceptional action on and off the ice, the expected hot pro hockey athletes, and their even hotter, strong and independent women...Asher and Emma's story was the perfect one to culminate all the romances of the series. There was humor, romance, sibling rivalry moments with hilarious results, and quick paced banter and dialog...all put together for the perfect Christmas sport's story package.
With one of the best breath stealing HEA I have read in quite sometime, Asher and Emma's was perfectly executed to bring out the depth of their love for each other. The journey they both took to get there may have been ten years in the making, but the last month of it was the most emotionally nerve wracking. The openess that Asher used to declare the sincerity of his love for Emma was breathtaking and seriously one of the most romantic ways I've ever seen used.
I'm looking forward to what Ms Snow has in store next, if it's nearly as good as the Westmore brothers' storinhave been, I know it'll be a winner.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Asher's disregard for his own physical safety, and bull-headed insistence that Emma was still going to return to snowboarding were both annoying qualities. It was fun to watch them both pretend that they didn't love each other, both to themselves and to others. Overall, I liked it.
Another good hockey story. This time it opens with one brother taking out another one. The one being knocked out of the game Asher Westmore was hurt before the hit but was still playing because he wanted to get to a milestone. In order to get to that he put himself and friends and staff in tough spots who were giving him injections into his knee until one hit and he was done. Of course he was blaming everyone else around him for his problem except himself for not taking care of the injury. The other person in the story is Emma Callaway who was once an Olympic gold medal athlete but because of an injury is now working towards being a physical therapist. She is also in love with Asher and when they added friends with benefits to their relationship it has made her loss focus especially now that he is injured. After surgery he only wants her as his therapist and as their relationship starts to change he pushes her in the wrong direction thinking what he is doing of course is right she walks away. Of course there is more to it but why spoil the story. He must come down from his high horse or not. She is accepted into a program in Florida and while she would like to stay in Colorado, or New Jersey where he lives he does nothing. No wait he does do something become miserable, more than when he was not playing. Can he pull his head out of his arse before it is too late? Read this story to find out.
I finally finished Maybe This Christmas, and it was an all right read. I liked the romance between Emma and Asher. I'm not a friends to lovers kind of person. They started off as friends, then they added with benefits. Let's be honest that always works out in the best. Fortunately, they did progress to something more, but it took some time. Emma wanted to move out the benefits to real relationship, Asher didn't want to ruin a good thing. Good thing Emma had a busybody sister. By the way, I wanted to deck her sister throughout the book. SERIOUSLY! DECK HER!
Emma's sister bothered me, I had to stop reading a couple of times because of her sister. She was bitch, and she belittle her sister about her choices in life. I personally think she was a little jealous, but that's my opinion. I think her sister should have apologized to her, but oh well. However, if her sister didn't try to intervene in her life Asher would have missed out on something special.
Overall, Maybe This Christmas, wasn't a bad read. I did like most of the story, except the parts when her sister came into the picture. I'm surprise I still have molars. I did like Asher and Emma, they were cute together.

Sometimes an event that knocks you on your butt – off your feet or in this case ice skates – can turn into an enlightening time. A time to take stock of your life and perhaps offer an uninvited, unexpected look into your future. I like to call this your new normal. Most everyone has to face challenges and changes and in MAYBE THIS CHRISTMAS by Jennifer Show there is a lot of both in the air.
You could call it having your cake and eating it too. Old fashioned as it seems mothers are always lecturing about not giving away the milk without buying the cow. So when two consenting adults have been indulging in several years of friends with benefits it’s an awesome challenge to move to a more connected relationship. One with the word love attached. And to a confirmed single hockey star that’s a move he just hasn’t mastered.
Asher Westmore along with his brothers Jackson and Ben practically grew up on ice skates. You have to be tough to be a professional hockey player. Learn how to take hits along with fabulous wins and heartbreaking losses. Those hits hurt and can cause some physical challenges to recover.
Lucky for Asher his best friend Emma was once again there for him while he rehabbed from knee surgery. Asher was a smart guy and was beginning to see the writing on the wall. Emma was moving on in her own personal career as a Physical Therapist. And this signaled a possible – no probable change in their relationship.
So the burning question is does Asher acknowledge his feelings for Emma – putting him and his heart on the line. Or is it just a case of Asher worrying that he will miss his friend with benefits. Asher does not like to lose but winning Emma’s heart is not a game. Its reality – a relationship hangs in the balance. Emma has been waiting a long time for Asher to catch up. Her feeling are true and sold and she wants – no expects nothing less from Asher.
Jennifer Snow is a Canadian and never doubt that as one she knows hockey. Having said that Snow also knows a lot about love and relationships and her books show it. Great coupling is an art and once again in MAYBE THIS CHRISTMAS we are introduced to a wonderful complex pair of characters who come to life on every page thanks to wordsmith Jennifer Snow. Problem with any of her books is they end too soon leaving you wanting more. Never too late to join the growing ranks of Jennifer Snow fans – Maybe This series is lovely and memorable.
Review: It was great to be back in Glenwood Falls, Colorado along with the Westmore family consisting of Asher, Ben, Jackson, Becky and their mom and extended family members that we’ve met in previous books . This is Asher and Emma’s story. They’ve been best friends for ten years and now fit the friends with benefits category but will there ever be more and do either of them even want their relationship to change?
This was a fast paced read with hockey at its core since Asher and Ben are pro hockey players for different teams and Jackson coaches hockey. There were laugh out loud moments along with sadness and tears. Emotions ran from elation to despair. The story flowed nicely with multiple story lines that were interwoven seamlessly. The characters were multidimensional and we got to know them a little at a time. Emma’s sister, Jess, was hard to stomach since she was always right and knew what was best especially for her sister. Sean, from the PhD program that Emma is interested in enrolling in gave me bad vibes. He definitely came on too strong. Emma and Ash had a lot to work out but seemed to connect best between the sheets even though they were “only” best friends. They didn’t always communicate well and when they didn’t things went downhill fast!
There were family and friends, neighborly disputes, accidents and injuries, lots of hockey along with anger, fear, sadness, tears, decisions to be made, feelings to share, secrets, romance, love and lots of hot and steamy loving some in inappropriate places. The book is set around Christmas so there were plenty of descriptions of decorations and gifts and even the weather. There was some closure and a potential happily-ever-after in the offing but the book ended too abruptly for me. An epilogue would have been nice unless there will be more books in the series for us to catch up with everyone’s life.
Snow has fast become one of my go to authors. I’ve enjoyed her books not only in this series but also books in her Beyond the Cage and A Brookhollow Story series. I haven’t yet read Maybe This Kiss, the novella that started it all in the Colorado Ice series but I hope to do so soon.
Asher is getting close to playing in his 1000 career hockey game and he gets injured by his brother and has to spend the holidays recovering. His friend, Emma, is a physical therapist and helps him in his quick recovery.
I love the hockey aspect and the family dynamics...can't wait to see what's next from Jennifer Snow!

Maybe This Christmas, the next installment in the Colorado Ice series by Jennifer Snow follows in the footsteps of the first two books in the series and by that I mean…it is a great read. I was fully engaged from the beginning and was driven to keep reading late into several nights in my attempt to devour this book.
This story is a classic one -> woman has liked (loved) man since they were young children. They are best friends and now best friends with benefits. But how can Emma get Asher to realize that she is in love with him and not just that she loves him? What a conundrum.
The story begins with the all important major career milestone, the 1,000th game for NHL star Asher Westmore, in two games, three nights from now. Asher has been nursing an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury in his right leg in an effort to be able to make this milestone. In the very next game, Ben Westmore (yes, Asher’s brother, who plays for the Colorado Avalanche) checks Asher into the boards, HARD, causing Asher further damage to his ACL and now he is sidelined and his 1,000 game is deferred, if he recovers and can rejoin his team (New Jersey Devils). The bright side of the injury is that he can recuperate in his home town of Glenwood Falls, Colorado. In fact, he will be able to have Emma as his physiotherapist. Now this might bode well for Emma:
“She’d get to see him more in the next few weeks than she had in years. The thought made her heart race.”
Of course, not all goes as smoothly as Emma nor Asher would like. Rehab is NOT easy for Asher as he has very high expectations of himself. Emma is more realistic, but she is very much on edge as she SO wants to tell Asher that she is in love with him. As more time passes, the relationship between them grows, but each is afraid to commit further. Sigh…it does get a wee bit old….
At least one good thing to make the story move along is Emma’s descriptions of how HOT Asher is – the description was very intense…making a gal want to lust after Asher herself. Who wouldn’t want a hunky hockey player:
“Her best friend was freaking hot as hell. A hockey player shaped more like a bodybuilder, with broad shoulders and thick chest and stomach. His six-pack abs were perfectly sculpted from hours on the ice and hitting the gym. His life revolved around hockey and turning his body into the best equipment he had. And damn, his equipment was unparalleled.”
As we find out, Emma is a retired Olympic athlete, due to an injury. I got a bit frustrated with Asher trying to push her back into competitive snowboarding. She had a good reason to quit, has moved on with her life. If only Asher would get it and get over it.
One of the side stories involved Asher’s mom, Beverly and Emma’s dad, Delaney Callaway (whom lived next door to each other). Each trying to outdo each other with Christmas decorations, getting a dog to annoy the other. This neighbourly feud certainly was entertaining. Reminds me of the movies Battle of the Bulbs or Deck the Halls.
We also get a glimpse of the continuing love story of the two brothers from the first two books. A nice way to catch up and see that their relationships are still going strong, with both brothers now engaged to their significant others.
One of the things I also liked about this book is that not only was the love story told well but that descriptions were so engaging that I truly could visualize (for example) the building and the architecture where the Glenwood Therapy and Rehabilitation offices was located:
“The old building on Main Street had been a brewery in the early 1900s. She loved the history of the building and its preserved original décor – maple hardwood floors, rounded archways and an open concept design with crafted metal ceilings.”
So, we have a love story where two individuals have numerous obstacles to overcome before true love can triumph. There are many twists and turns that occur before all is right with the world. I must say that Jennifer Snow has penned an entertaining story with many interesting plot twists which add depth to the characters as well as the story. Sure, the main characters were hot (and that was certainly evident in the love making scenes!) but in addition there was depth of character, which is certainly an added bonus to the stories. As I have said in previous reviews in this series…who doesn’t like hunky hockey players? This Canadian reader sure does.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey of Maybe This Christmas and cannot wait to read more titles by Jennifer Snow. As far as Canadian romance writers go…Jennifer Snow is by far my favourite!
