The Breakaway series is officially my favorite by L.P. Dover.
Dallas Easton stole my heart right from the start. Yea the man was a dirty dog when it came to women, but it's because he hadn't met the right one.
Enter Callow Davis. She is one he'll of a spitfire. She wouldn't put up with any of Dallas crap..
What I liked the most is that Dallas had to work for it. He's not used to that. But for him Callie was worth it. and she truly cared for him.....This is a spoiler free review. Want to know more...Read this book
This is 2 ice hockey books read in a week for me, something I have never done before!
I haven't read the 1st book in this series but loved the sound of this blurb.
Dallas Easton has found his match in Callie and I was hoping she would be able to bring him down a peg or 2. In Hannah's words (Callies bezzie) 'I think it's time the infamous bad boy learns a lesson in humility.'!!!
I loved seeing how Callie played with Dallas seeing as both couldn't deny their attraction and him just proving every time that he is THE man!
♥♥ 3.5 Hockey Stars ♥♥
I liked this one. I did. I just felt like maybe there wasn't really much tension? Maybe the chemistry between Callie and Dallas wasn't hot enough for my liking? I'm not exactly sure, except that it left me wanting more from this book.
Callie is a nurse living with her brothers in North Carolina; one of the three is a new recruit for the NHL team, and they're all really close. One thing that kind of bothered me was that her brothers were really overprotective of her; this alone didn't turn me off, but I felt like they took it a little too far.
Anyway, growing up as the younger sister of a bunch of hockey fanatics in Minnesota, Callie became pretty good at the sport herself and learned to stick up for herself when needed. So when Dallas Easton acts like a jerk during practice, she shows him up. He thinks she's a dude (what with hockey paraphernalia on and whatnot) and is about to start a fight with her when he realizes she's a woman. Obviously, that cools him down a bit, and his interest in her starts. She's rightfully wary of him, but he goes to great lengths to prove that what he wants with her is more than a one night stand.
I think one of the things that bothered me was how hard Callie made Dallas work for her. Please don't get me wrong. I am a huge feminist so no way do I believe that women should just roll over when a guy wants in, but he seemed genuine with her, and for me, that's enough to give him a chance. But it seemed like she strung him along a little bit too long, and when things got tough she was a little too willing to believe the worst.
So this one wasn't stellar for me, but the writing was well-done, the storyline was fun, and the characters were likable.
I love hockey. I am a total sucker for hockey romance novels. So when I had the chance to get an early copy of Blocked through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review, I was beyond excited. Until I read the first couple of paragraphs. I was immediately turned off by all the hockey mistakes. How does the author write a hockey romance with almost no knowledge of the sport? A little tip for the author - there is no way a professional hockey team could be halfway through an 82 game season, be undefeated and just now playing their very first home game. Not possible. Also, they don't play back to back games against the same team in the same city.
So I start the book already disappointed. This is not a hockey romance. It's a straight up romance novel. The writing style and the romance parts had better be crazy good to make it up to me! Um... yeah, didn't work out the way I had hoped. The writing was weak, the plot too thin, and the characters immature. Not a great combination. Since this was the second book in the series, I read the first book, Hard Stick, just in case there were plot lines from the first book that tied into Blocked. Imagine how surprised I was to see whole pages from the first book inserted into this book. An example? The first sex scene - pretty much word for word for nearly the entire chapter. Weird. I gave up. If the author couldn't be bothered, neither can I. Did not finish.
Dallas Easton is the goalie for the Charlotte Strikers. He's also a hot as hell man-whore with a hot temper. Despite playing for the winningest team in the NHL Dallas isn't liked by all of his teammates although the do respect him for his athletic abilities, after all he is the top goalie in the league. But if you have a sister Dallas is the last guy you'd want to let near her.
Callie Davis is an ER nurse and sister of Striker hockey player Justin Davis. Justin and Dallas aren't known to get along. But once Dallas sees Callie he's not going to let something like an angry teammate keep him away from the first woman he's had feelings for in a long time.
Callie knows that Dallas is a player but her heart races out of control when they are around each other. So besides wanting to resist him for his playboy ways she also doesn't want to upset Justin and her other two brothers who she's very close to. (It doesn't help that Callie currently lives with all three of her brothers while house hunting.)
Callie is a strong heroine. She's independent, has a great job and is part of a wonderful family.
Although Dallas has a past of making poor decisions he wants to become a better man for Callie and some of the things he does to prove to her that he's a changed man are hilarious!
Several characters return from the first book but Ms. Dover does a good job of integrating them into the story so that you can read this as a standalone without feeling like you missed anything from the first book.
For me it's the dynamic among all of the characters that really make this book enjoyable. I love character driven books. Callie and Dallas make a great couple once they work through all of the obstacles thrown in there way. They also create some serious steam once they get together.
I'm guessing there is another book to come in this series and I'll be anxious to see whose story is told next.
This book has it all. It's well written, has the hot jock, the smart and beautiful heroine, lots of great friends, comedy and some steamy sex to top it all off.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
I loved Blocked! I love a good sports romance involving hockey, and this one did not disappoint. It was funny, sexy, and very well written. It was hard to put down. I can't wait to read more from L.P. Dover
Last review was an error. I'll add a new one when this book has been read.
She shoots, she scores!
Callie Davis grew up on skates with her brothers. At a pro-hockey practice she manages to score a couple of goals on Dallas, the hot tempered goalie. Dallas nearly punches her not realizing that there is a beautiful woman beneath the pads and hockey helmet.
Will he ever earn her forgiveness or her brothers acceptance?
Blocked by L.P. Dover is another "must read" book for your shelf!

What happens when a cocky goalie meets his match?
Dallas is the goaltender for the Charlotte Strikers and has every right to be cocky. He’s helped the team win 4 Stanley Cups and has no plans of stopping. Partying, drinking and having any woman he wants is just part of the game. Until he meets her.
Callie is an RN and surgical nurse at the local hospital. Oh, and also the sister of Justin Davis the new winger for the Strikers. She is warm, caring and has no time for players.
I loved their meet cute. Dallas seemed to have anger issues as well as needing to be knocked down a peg. I absolutely loved that Callie was such a strong lead. She didn’t take any crap and made him prove himself as worthy of her. There were many twists and turns and of course, a few misunderstandings.
Overall, I thought this was a great story with a lot of humor and heart. I can’t wait to read Lacey and Maddox’s story!
If you want a light hearted HEA, this could be your next read. Dallas is the best goal tender in the league and only ever a minute away from his next conquest. Callie is an ER/surgical nurse determined to make Dallas work for it, but even she can't ignore the attraction between the two of them. Lots of steamy love scenes and several hysterical "dares" later, their relationship still may not be strong enough to survive celebrity tabloids.
I have to add that the secondary characters are intriguing, and I'm excited to see what story plays out next. I hope it's Lacey/Maddox... Please, please, please! ;-)
Fantastic story you can not put down! This author knows how to craft characters that leave you wanting more and more
I've been reading this book back and forth for weeks. I had hoped it would get better. But it didn't. I love L.P. Driver's booke. But this one fell flat. I couldn't get over Dallas and his brash attitude. From the first chapter he was instantly unlikeable. The story also didn't flow well. It switched POV's from the hero and heroine, but it just didn't work where one of their POV ended and the other began. Seemed abrupt. I'm giving this a three stars because the plot of this story was exciting. I just wish I had enjoyed reading this one. I'll continue reading L.P's stuff in the future though.
A fun read! Dallas is a foul- mouthed hockey player with an ego a mile wide. Callie, that doesn't suffer idiots. Sparks were bound to fly! And fly they did!
We have an incredible hockey goalkeeper, the best in the league. Dallas has everything he could ever want; money, fame, girls. But what will happen when that one woman comes along that he can't have?
Callie has a brother on the same team. So she knows what goes on. Why would she want a player who just wants to get into her pants?
This is a very well-written book that will take you on an exciting adventure. You will fall in love with Dallas and Callie, maybe even another player or two. I was not able to stop reading this book until I was done. I didn't want it to finish so bad that I just read it again!!!
I can't say enough about L.P. Dover. If you love this book, then you will love all the reast of her books.
I loved this book. I can't wait until another installment is released in this series. This is the first book I have read by L.P. Dover and now I am hooked. This book was hard to put down when I started reading page 1. This story is full of sexy times, page turning and feel good falling in love. I loved the tension between that existed between Callie and Dallas throughout the story. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends.
This was a top notch hockey story. My first book by Author L.P. Dover and it will not be my last. I loved the story of Dallas and Callie. It was entertaining and very cute. Didn't realize this was the second book in the series, but it made no difference I got right into the story.
The characters were very entertaining with everything going on. The storyline didn't lag in anyway. If you like a lighthearted hockey story then I'm sure you will enjoy th I s book I sure did.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review by Net Galley and Loveswept.
With a somewhat stereotypical off-limits/forbidden romance with a fellow hockey player teammate’s sister, Dallas goes from a crude, OTT unapologetic man ho to wanting to be a better man because of Callie, the heroine. Believe me, my fellow romance book-loving friends, he needed this transition desperately. You see, right off the bat he finally gets his lights knocked out over one too many crude, random hook-ups at celebratory parties with a too willing woman who shouldn’t have been. Callie comes to his rescue in the cleanup/aftermath, but he doesn’t even know it, folks, at least not for awhile.
Fortunately, those lights come back on in a very big way when he sets out to impress Callie, who doesn’t seem to want anything to do with him and makes him work for it. At first, she starts off very likable as she constantly keeps putting him in his place. Yeah, who doesn’t love to see an egotistic, thinks he’s God’s gift to women knocked off his high horse. But, honestly, her pranks and demands started to come across as rather OTT and childish.
They finally find common ground though and go for it. By 50%, they are an actual couple and no longer are hiding their relationship. At 55% it becomes very graphically smexy/steamy, so brace yourself for that. Yeah, you’ve been warned.
Somewhere along the way Callie goes from a flirty prankster trying to prove why dating between them wouldn’t work to a crying, doubting Thomas who never seemed to want to give him a chance to explain anything and always expected the worst from him.
Dallas’s rather predictable but grand gesture was really the only good part about the ending. Callie’s crying bouts and complaining to everyone about how he broke her heart was starting to feel overly done. She nearly ruined the ending for me, folks.
Well, it looks like I got ahead of myself and read my ARC edition of book 2 a tad too early. Near the conclusion, I found myself really wanting good guy Kellan and Kristen’s story, which turns out to be book 1, which releases next week. Here’s to hoping I’ll find time to work it in, as well.

L. P. Dover is back with her sexy hockey players in the steamy romance Blocked. Dallas Easton is a hot commodity on and off the ice. The best goaltender in the league, he knows he is good and he isn't ready to pass the puck… Still, when a player gets the best of him, he loses his cool and his reputation comes back to bite him. He didn’t know the dude he hit was a girl. And not just any girl. She was his angel. She was also the little sister and cousin of two of his teammates, who now had just another reason to hate his guts. She enthralled him. And won't let him make amends. Callie Davis knows all about the gorgeous goalie that knocked her down. He is a womanizer and she'd be just another notch on his belt if she let him. Except he is determined to prove he can be different with her. With her family and his agent against Easton turning a new leaf, it is hard to show Callie just how much she means to him. But he won't give up. She is not only what he wants. She is what he needs. Callie is willing to give Easton a chance, but she won't be played. If he hurts her, there will be a world of pain heading his way. But the truth is that she will break too. Blocked is a sexy romance with a hot hockey player, his perfect match, lots of fun banter, some trashy gossip rags, betrayal, loyal friends and a HEA.
Blocked is a sports romance involving Dallas an ice hockey player at the top of his game with women falling at his feet he's rather a man whore with commitment issues. Callie is the sister of 3 brothers one of whom plays on the same team as Dallas. Callie has no intention of becoming another 'Puck bunny' and her protective brother is determined to keep Dallas away from his sister .
Okay so this is the usual formula for a sports romance but this was a god read with some laugh out loud moments, Callie is no simpering woman and Dallas has to work hard to prove himself.
Enjoyable and well written.
Thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book honestly
Well, I really loved this 2nd book in the series! I thought it was well done... Dallas and Callie were fun to read. I enjoyed Callie as she is a spit fire and truly gave Dallas a run for his money. Dallas has never had to work for a date in his life and has really never believed in just one girl, as there are so many who are willing for a night with a hockey star. Callie grew up all around hockey and is not really impressed with the lifestyle most of the hockey players who play with her brother are involved in. She loves the game, and is busy trying to figure out her own life and not looking for anything, but Dallas sees something in her that he can't walk away from and will do anything
to prove he can change. Can he change, will his past come back to haunt them? There is hints in this book that the hockey world is truly a small world and there maybe more connections in this group... Looking forward to seeing what comes of this...Hoping there are a few more books in this series as there are some big changes with the charters in this book. Would be fun to see where it goes!
