Disappointment.
This was not my cup of tea. Just really out there realistically. Such a stretch of the mind. Rey cerebral at times with all the art stuff. I just really. Couldn't get into it.
It did get three stars for the writing. The sex was hot.
Not my cup of tea.
Received an ARC from the publisher through Net Galley.
Mona St. James is in trouble. Her art gallery, “The Red”, inherited from her mother, is facing dire financial straits with little hope for the future. She has just about decided it would have to close, when a mysterious man enters and proposes a solution. In return for saving The Red Mona must promise to submit to him for a full year, doing anything he desires. His proposal includes the promise that Mona will enjoy most of it as well…but not all.
It’s a good setup for an erotic novel but in the hands of Tiffany Reisz, the novel shines. We might expect that a series of erotic encounters will follow and indeed they do. They are as hot as can be, titillating, erotic, and intriguing to be sure. Tiffany Reisz fans will know what to expect. But the story behind these encounters is what ties it all together and prevents it from being simply one sizzling scene after the next. While mysterious at the beginning, the story turns to erotic fantasy along the way and the ending provides a very satisfying resolution to the previous events. If you like a good story and good characters along with your erotic action, then look no further than this stand-alone novel.
Imaginative, suspenseful and transparently explicit, this is a fun escape.
I really enjoyed this book- escapism, time slip, great characters well drawn, an imaginative storyline and most rewarding to read. I look forward to reading more by this author! Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy sent to my Kindle.
I have to say that this book surprised me more than I expected. I only have a few small issues with the story but those are more personal preferences rather than a plot hole.
I think for those who have yet to read this book, you'd be pleasantly surprised. It's worth the read for sure! I only have a few small issues with the story but those are more personal preferences rather than a plot hole.
Still an enjoyable reI definitely think you all should read it and experience it for yourself
I promised to give a fair and honest review in return for being given this ARC. Somewhere on the internet, if you search for "dark eroticism" there will be a picture of this book, I am quite certain. If you have any reserves of a sexual nature DO NOT BUY this book. If however, you are inquisitive and open minded then by all means, do buy it. Those people will enjoy it immensely.
This is a fantasy combining fine art, well known art, and lots of sex. The art is a prelude to each sexy chapter, a hint for the heroine.
Sex and art have been intertwined for millenia, thus the term erotic art, but this is the first story I have read that literally interwines them as a plot device. I found myself stopping to look up some of the pieces and imagined how beautiful this could be presented as a glossy full color print book.
Unfortunately, the story does falter toward the end; it wraps up quickly and crudely, not completely disappointingly but not as gracefully as even the most disturbing earlier scenes.
And there is dark, disturbing sex. It is written so well however that even though I was partly repulsed, I was also entranced as was the heroine, Mona.
There are a couple of words I find offensive which are used here, one is a crude term for female anatomy and the other is whore. I know it has its place, it is even used appropriately, but it is not a term of endearment and it is not respectful. I really hate it. The characters are not bothered by it but it still repulses me when I read it. Used as it is in the final scene it is inappropriate and just crude.
The final scene is not at all convincing which is why I dropped a star. It is a rushed, crude, rape scene trying to be what? A rushed crude rape scene.
I love Tiffany Reisz's books, but this one fell a bit short to me. I wasn't keen on the paranormal resolution, and would have liked a bit more plot to go with the sex scenes.
This is without a doubt the best book I've read in a very long time. Tiffany Reisz has been one of my favorite authors, even though one of her more recent works didn't do much for me. But she is back to form 100% with this one! Wow! This book has it all. The characters are interesting, the interactions are HOT, the plot is full of intrigue, and most of all, it is SO imaginative, it makes me positively giddy.
The backdrop of a gallery on thin ice is right up my alley as an artist. I can relate. But boy oh boy, I wish my art studies had been this fascinating! I'd certainly have paid attention better in Art History classes, that's for sure.
I have always appreciated it when an author researches things well for a book rather than just coming up with a rehashed plot with names and professions changed, but basically the same book over and over. But there is NOTHING boilerplate about Ms. Reisz's work, and this book is especially terrific. It's not a book for sissies though. And it will keep you guessing and thinking right up to the very end.
Kudos for writing such a great story. And thank you, NetGalley, for letting me read an ARC in exchange for my review. The pleasure was all mine.

Mona's mom recently died and Mona now owns/runs her beloved art gallery. The Red.
But with all the medical costs and the debts of the gallery, Mona probably won't be able to stay in business - even though it's the one thing she had to promise her mother on her deathbed.
Enter Malcom. He's a hot mysterious stranger who's suddenly standing in the gallery with an offer Mona can't refuse. Well, she could, but she's intrigued - and she definitely needs what he's offering: priceless art to save the gallery!
Thus starts one year of amazingly erotic pleasure for Mona - and priceless artsy pleasure for her gallery!
But who is Malcom? Where did he come from? Why is he doing this?
WHAT THE EVERLOVING HELL IS HAPPENING? ☺☺☺
That's what this reader was asking herself all through the book!
I didn't really know what to expect when I started the book - it said EROTIC FANTASY! And I'm not really a fan of anything paranormal, so in any other case I probably wouldn't have read it, BUT it also said Tiffany Reisz, so there was no question at all whether I was going to read it or not. ☺
And I loved it!
It's so unbelievably erotic! Phew!!! Holy potato! Those were some sinfully sexy encounters!!
Full of mystery, mythology, role-play, ménages, art history ... hardcore porn. ☺
Every chapter was named after the painting that would inspire the upcoming 'session' with Malcom - and I always googled those pictures to see how the scene was supposed to look! ☺
It was all soo mysterious! Who the hell is Malcom? Where did he come from? Dare we ask WHEN did he come from??? And what is his ultimate goal??
Please read this book! Yes, it's so very different from those usual sexy New Adult romances, but you'll love the extreme sexiness and mysteriousness and artsy-ness of this lovely little story! I sooo did! But of course it won't be for anyone. It's extremely - almost over-the-top - erotic. Too much for some to handle. ;) But Tiffany, or rather, Nora, wrote it, so we have to love it! And I did.
Another amazing #MustRead by Tiffany Reisz! Extremely & sinfully erotic & intriguingly mysterious!!!! ☺
"Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway."
I can't deny that I'm a Tiffany Reisz fan. I might blush while reading, but I don't stop reading. It's a guilty pleasure that I don't intend to give up anytime soon.
The Red is not like anything I've previously read by this author. Honestly, I didn't even read the synopsis before I grabbed it. I just love her wit and passion and I figured whatever it was about was okay with me. At least until I started reading and got to my first WTF? and decided to go back and read the blurb to see what the hell I'd gotten myself into. I struggled to determine what genre I was reading, well, except for the erotic part. I had no trouble at all with that (wink-wink).
While I might not have knowingly gone in that direction, I couldn't stop reading once I started. I was very intrigued to find out where it was going and I needed my questions answered. And let me tell you, that was the best part. I turned the last page with a smile on my face.
If you are already a fan of this author, you won't be disappointed. If you haven't tried her yet, you might be shocked, but I bet you don't stop reading either. Bring it on Tiffany, you write it, I'll read it. The line forms here...
This was my first book by the author. I've heard great things but I had never read any of her work yet. Admittedly, I found the story somewhat strange as it developed, but it was well written. Mona was a character I wanted to like but had a hard time with as time went on. The plot was entertaining but reached a point near the end where it just became too much. I finished the book but started to lose interest 3/4 through it. Overall I enjoyed the experience but have to admit that the story itself was a little strange.
Guarantee it will be hot in July and it's not just global warming! This book is scorching! Tiffany Reisz's characters and stories are so complex, kinky, twisted and shockingly likable. And for Original Sinners fans this is such a treat.
One of the best books in this genre that I have read in along time.
Not only does it have the erotica one is looking for but a really good story that is well researched .
A scorching hot read with a real twist in the tail at the end.
This is my first Tiffany Reisz book, and it wont be my last. I love how she writes, her characters are easy to follow and love. It's one hot and steamy book!
The Red is an erotic fantasy book, that takes you on a hot and steamy adventure. Extremely well written, that you almost feel like apart of the story. I could not put this book down. I was up much later then I intended, reading this story! Wow...Just Wow! Tiffany Reisz you have a new fan!!

If you are avid fan of this author's work, like I am, you know you can expect two things.
1) Something deeply erotic.
2) Something completely original.
Initially, this book starts off like several other romances I've read, where a man has a proposition for a woman that is centered on sex. But that's where the similarities end. The arrangement made between Mona and Malcolm is usually not only because of the timeframe, with midnight meetings only once a month, or less. But also because these meetings are deeply set in fantasy, with specific acts inspired by famous works of art.
I will tell you up front, I recommend that this book be read behind closed doors. I guarantee that at least one scene will have you grabbing your vibrator, and lover of choice. If you've read the sinners series, you know that this author has the ability to create discomfort for her reader, with the balance of pain and pleasure, that may have you questioning the character's actions, yet still turning you on. No other author, that I've read, has the ability to do this.
"It's one thing to allow a man to pleasure you. It's quite another to allow him to hurt you. You'll know real powerlessness tonight, real fear, true pain. And I will drink it like wine."
With regards to originality, this book has it in spades. Why? Partly due to fantasy type scenes, but more so with where the story leads. Specifically, who is Malcolm? I had some theories along the way on where the story would lead, and they were all wrong.
As with any book from this author, go into this with an open mind. And prepare for a wild journey.
This book was not really for me, but it definitely was imaginative and intriguing. I can definitely see others being very interested and excited by it.
A dreamy, erotic journey through art and body, Mona pays the ultimate price order to save her mother's gallery. We're talking kink of the highest caliber. Tiffany Reisz proves that everything she crafts is both genius and pure magic.
Cold Shower required! Let's remember story is penned by Nora so as an Original Sinners fan it's even more exhilerating to read. Now in true Tiffany Reisz fashion we have Steamy, sexy and you're squirming wanting more and more. I find myself clutching my kindle. This story you really don't know where it's leading you. Deathbed promises , deals ,what's real what's fantasy. You are so enraptured along with Mona trying to figure out who is the elusive Malcolm, the how's the why's. The end was great I am a closer I love a great climax and this as though it went fast all comes together . You need to remember have fun enjoy the ride and keep an open mind. Loved it.
