Hunger
Jacquelyn Frank

Frank never disappoints in her books. She always manages to come up with new plots and characters. E-vamps, not blood-suckers,they can drain the life energy from a human.
Halo is one of these vamps he has been druged and kidnapped. Felice, a young woman, has also been druged and taken. They end up nude in a room seemingly without an exit. This is just the start of the story and it gets better. There is a sinister plot to kill Hero because he is getting to close to the traitor.
Of course with Frank there is always lots of hot love and fast action. Which this book provices in abundance.
Another winner from Jacquelyn Frank.

Not as good as Thirst, but still worth a read. The captivity at the beginning was at times incredibly slow paced and almost predictable, so I didn't feel much of a connection to the hero/heroine for the rest of the book.

Loved this right from the beginning! Love how this book started! 2 people trapped naked in a room without a way out: 1 an energy vampire, 1 a human with no knowledge of supernaturals, and things are looking quite dire for the pair. Love this scenario! There's mystery and suspense right from the beginning, and I loved reading the story unfold. Halo has been living a life of debauchery, and he has an edge and attitude that rubs people the wrong way, so he and Felice don't always get along, but they need to band together in order to escape, and figure out who has captured them. I enjoyed the banter between Halo and Felice, their relationship is a slow burn, and these two have some heat! Entertaining action, and an interesting, unique story that kept me reading this book in one sitting. Loved the writing and loved the characters! I would've liked a slightly different ending, and for turning to be talked about more, but those are small things. I'm excited to see where Frank is going to take this series!

It was certainly a very unique storyline with loads of potential. Unfortunately, I just couldn't connect with the characters. While I thought they were well developed they were kind of flat. It's like meeting someone you feel indifferent about and a few days later won't remember them. I wish I could say I loved it but a great idea wasn't enough. As always, reviews are personal opinion and I would certainly recommend this book because I loved the premise. I'm sure someone else will have a different experience.

Oh yea! This was such a good book! I really love books by this author and while I was a little disappointed last time, this time I was blown away. Such a good storyline, such good drama! I love how they were stuck together for awhile with all that b.s. going on and the horror going on with that situation. Then the following situation leading to the ending was epic! The ending left me wondering what's next!??

This was an interesting and different type of story.. you see the blurb of vampire and automatically think drinking blood but that wasnt the case here.. it was a good story and characters were a lot of fun.. i loved how the two come together and figure things out.. as themselves and together.. it was all interesting and fun to read. i am glad i got to review it

Ok, I have to start out by saying, that I enjoyed this book quite a bit more than the first one in the series. I was SO excited to read Halo's story, as he was a character that really intrigued me in the first book and made me hunger to know more about him.

The way this story started out with Halo and Felice both wondering, along with myself, how they got where they are and precisely why they are there. I think that two naked strangers locked in a sealed room together makes for a curious and compelling book beginning, and I immediately found myself on board for the story to come.

I thought the plot was well-crafted and moved along at a good pace. The characters were certainly interesting, and I liked the elements of humanity prevalent in Halo and others of his kind. They were subject to the same trappings of greed, lust and thirst for power, as well as emotions of tenderness, protectiveness and the need for good to conquer evil that their human counterparts experience. I liked Halo's balance of fierce and gentle. This is always appealing for me in a male lead.

Overall, I was quite pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this second installment in the series, after the mixed feelings I had about the first . I am, now, eagerly looking forward to the next book.

This story combines romance and action in a direct style of writing that creates great images for the reader. The main characters are a vampire and a human female. The bulk of the story involves the ongoing interaction between the two. The action involves their escape from captivity and the revenge that follows.. I wish the action had been as well described as the lovemaking. The interaction between the two is the best part of the story. If you enjoy a good sex story with excursions into adventure, this is a good book for you.

A big Thank you to Random House/Loveswept for the ARC for my honest review. This is the 2nd in a series. I have not read the first one so I knew going in I may be confused. It was not terrible, this is a bit confusing but the book is good enough that you forge through the things you don't understand. Some of the dialogue is a bit annoying while they were in captivity and some questions are never answered. I give this a 3.5. I think that most people would enjoy the series that enjoy paranormal. You might want to start at number 1. The story is self contained but there are unresolved issues. If you don't like things hanging-this might not be the book for you. I say give it a try and let me know what you think. Enjoy

To be honest I am just not sure of this series. It is so different than what we are used to reading about vampires. Don't get me wrong. It is well written and interesting but the story always has me thinking “that isn't what I'm used to” and it takes away from the story for me.

Again the story is good. The writing is good. The characters are good. Just not my kind of story.

This read is filled with drama and suspense as Halo, an energy vampire and Felice, a human who have been taken hostage and left naked in a room together. Can they find out who has taken them and why? This read has plenty of steam, good characters and held my interest throughout. I really liked it.

This is the 2nd book in the series, but I didn't feel like Thirst had to be read before this one. The majority of this book took place in a small space. It was interesting and intriguing. The chemistry between Halo and Felice was intense. He was a cocky bastard and he didn't care if she called him out on it. Under normal circumstances, Felice would never have given Halo a chance after he opened his mouth. But with things being as they were, they couldn't hide their attraction. Even though things seem dire, their chemistry is a potent thing. So the timing may have been off, but it worked for them! I was drawn into their turmoil and their desire. There was action, a LOT of action and a little blood and guts, but I was on the edge of my seat and didn't want to put this book down.
I enjoyed how pieces of the story developed bit-by-bit the further we got into it. The reasons why weren't known upfront and we had to work at getting that story. This book held my attention and I didn't want to do anything that would take me away from it! I like Felice's tenacity toward Halo and how she didn't let him get away with anything. She was the first person who ever called him out on his actions or feelings. She also saw more than others had in the past. She wanted to break down his walls and get to know the man she saw glimpses of as they were held captive. She was a game changer for him and she definitely hadn't been looking for anyone. I liked the fact that the vampires take energy, not blood. I don't necessarily go looking for vampire stories but this is a unique spin on it and I really liked this book and recommend it! Happy reading!

Hunger is the second book in the newest vampire series by Frank. Now every book I have read from this author has been pretty wonderful, and Hunger was no different, I absolutely fell in love with this book and these “Energy vampires”. In Hunger we have a story where both our hero and our heroine wake up having been drugged, kidnapped and naked and forced in the same room together. Halo, our hero of the story, is one of the strongest of their kind. He is a energy vampire, he is trapped in a room with a beautiful and spirited human female whose blood has been tainted and is forbidden for him and he has two choices: Find a way to escape and figure out why he has been taken prisoner or feed on Felice and break one of the most supreme laws of their people. Halo is a man of honor, he may enjoy feeding, but he also upholds the laws of their people. Halo finds that he is drawn to Felice. There is something unique about her, and he needs to figure out why she was picked to be stuck in a room with him. Little chance that its just coincidence. Felice has no clue about energy vampires, but she soon learns of their world and Halo’s place in it. Felice has had to deal with a stalker ex boyfriend, move to a new state and make a new life for herself and now she is drawn into a world of the supernatural and where there is danger around the corner.

Hunger was a fabulous story that I didn’t want to set aside, I was drawn to these characters and seeing the way they fight their way out of their predictament and the interesting way they end up falling for each other. Halo and Felice are from two different worlds. Felice is a young woman that is a fighter, but she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She is philosophical at times, she looks at life with a “glass half full”, she tends to be a positive thinker. Where our hero is a badass fighter, bad boy to the extreme, one of the strongest and most elite of his kind and doesn’t have serious relationships with women, especially not intimate ones. I found the dynamics of their relationship fascinating. Seeing how different they are from each other, and the way they balance each other out. I just loved that, while I was reading this story, the whole chinese term “yin-yang” kept running through my mind. Because Halo and Felice definitely fit the bill for that. They are so different in so many ways, but they also compliment each other in the right ways.

This world that Jacquelyn Frank has created swept me up pretty quickly in the story, and I was so intrigued by this idea of Energy Vampires. Basically these type of vampires feed of the energy of humans, but only humans that are sweet and clean and healthy. It was a bit different from the regular vampire idea, but still very close to the idea. Only there is no holy water, no mirrors or any myths like that. So I found the world building in this story quite refreshing for a vampire read. I always love it when a author gets a bit creative but still stays true a bit to the actual myths. And I wasn’t surprised with how this author handled this story and the world building that takes place. She does like to write those unique paranormal romances that keeps you on edge and she definitely succeeded. Now I know that I need to go pick up Thirst (the first book) because I was so intrigued by Rafe and need to read his book.

Overall Hunger is a romance that you don’t want to miss out on if you love plenty of danger, intrigue, a sexy vampire, a fighting heroine and a love story that wins your heart!

Hungar is the second story in the Energy Vampires series. This is creative storytelling at it's finest: the intrigue, the chase and the revelation will not be as you imagine. Characters who have determination and courage but also who show their vulnerable side. I look forward to seeing more in this world.

This story was ok but it honestly did not do much for me. I expected more out of Halo's story and for me Felice was not the girl I would have chosen for him. I am a fan of this author so I will continue to read her stories.

Book Review
Title: Hunger
Series: The Energy Vampires #2
Author: Jacqulyn Frank
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publication Date: August 8, 2017
Cliff Hanger: No

3 Stars

*This story is for mature audiences only. Contains explicit scenes and language intended for adults 18+

Synopsis:

Two strangers—one warm and human, the other deadly and craving—become pawns in an all-out vampire war as this series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Nightwalkers saga heats up.

As an energy vampire, Halo enjoys the chase for human blood—if it’s pure and consensual. But Halo goes from hunter to hunted when he is knocked unconscious and taken hostage by vicious sycophants. As he comes to, he realizes that he’s naked, starving, and trapped in a sealed room. With him is a deliciously human female, tempting him to feed—except her blood is heady with the scent of poisonous drugs. Never has nourishment been so near, yet so far . . . and it’s all part of the sycophants’ sick game.

The last thing Felice Mendoza remembers is everything going black. She awakens stripped, drugged, exposed, and alone—with a vampire. Halo is at once savage and tender, terrifying and alluring. Felice senses that her only chance to escape depends upon his survival. Given the choice between Halo and his enemies, Felice surrenders to his ravenous hunger. It’s a calculated risk—and a delirious pleasure. As Felice is ushered into a world as dangerous as it is desirable, their fight for deliverance is only the beginning

My Thoughts:
This is the second book in The Energy Vampire series. I was not as invested in this book as I was in book one. I am disappointed because I was so looking forward to this second book.

I have to say I liked the idea of story, but it dragged in spots with redundant information repeated throughout. I feel the book could have been shorter without all repeats. I also felt that the first half of the book needed more action. There was a lot of dialog and I had a hard time staying engaged. I did enjoy the push and pull between the characters; the banter was entertaining. Things didn’t pick up until the second half. I also wasn’t as attached to the characters as I was in book one.

I really wanted to love this, but it was just okay.

3.5 stars--HUNGER is the second installment in Jacquelyn Frank’s contemporary, adult THE ENERGY VAMPIRES paranormal, romance series. This is energy vampire and hunter Halo, and antiques dealer Felice Mendoza’s story line.

SOME BACKGROUND: Energy vampires are aliens, descended to earth years before, who soak up their nourishment from the sun, and feed off the energy (not blood) of humans who are pure in body and spirit. Those e-vampires who cross to the dark side, getting their nourishment from the energy of impure humans, become known as sycophants. The energy vampires have been pulled into a war where the ultimate target is the Queen of the vampires, and all that she rules.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Halo and Felice) HUNGER follows two strangers-one human female and one e-vampire male-who find themselves imprisoned by an unknown jailer. Not only is Felice Mendoza unaware of the existence of the supernatural but our heroine is ‘drugged’ in an effort to force a starving Halo to turn to the dark side. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between Halo and Felice as they struggle to break free of their captors, and the fall out when Halo walks away from the woman with whom he has fallen in love. A good portion of the story line takes place in a secure room (cell) where our couple struggle to stay one step ahead of an unknown threat to their safety and lives

HUNGER and the Energy Vampires is a different kind of vampire series in that the vampires feed off energy and not blood. Humans are considered cattle; fodder and food at an all you can eat open restaurant; and it is forbidden to allow a human to know about the vampire’s existence-memory wiping is a frequent threat against our story line heroine. Impure energy, such as that from addicts, alcoholics and the like, will eventually turn the energy vampire into a sycophant-a self serving, vampire addict who is all about the next fix or high.

Saying that, although the concept is intriguing, the series failed to pull me in due to the less than positive treatment and consideration of humans. It’s not that I believe the humans should be treated as royalty but it is the way in which the author designed the series, and has the characters justify their misconduct towards humans. In the end, the energy vampires are snobs and bigots; reverse ‘specieism’ as it pertains to their earthly hosts; supernatural supremacists who care little for the humans from whom they feed and use. I think, if the author had presented her characters with a little less vitriol and venom towards their human counterparts I would have had more empathy for the story line characters. Perhaps it was the constant and continuous reminders (memory wiping/ bigotry) that lessened my enjoyment of the story line.

There is some great back and forth banter between our leading couple. Felice is a strong heroine who has fallen for the brooding and maddening vampire-she sees something in Halo that others have failed to accept. Halo is a hunter of the sycophant-and in this his duty is to the Queen, and not to fall in love with a human female. The series premise and story line is interesting in its’ concept but lost something in its’ presentation; the characters are colorful; the romance struggles with too many preconceived notions but there is a definite spark between our leading couple.

Alpha’s Mate by Eve Langlais
This is another good book by Eve Langlais. We first meet our Fabian as he is trying to save a damsel in distress. We don’t know who she is but she been kidnapped and they are trying to kill her. We go through the story trying to find out who she is and why they are after her. The storyline is interesting and seeing the big bad Alpha wolf interacting with his tough mate is hilarious! I hope there’s more to this series because they are really good.

Dangerous Passions by Kate Douglas
This is the first book I’ve ready by Kate Douglas but it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed reading this book. There are 2 couples coming together in this book but it wasn’t confusing at all. Darnell is on her way back to Feral Passions (so this may be the last book in a series) to meet up with Evan. She doesn’t realize the men at the lodge are werewolves but she’s going to find out in a surprising way. We have their story and we also have a story involving Traker, the Alpha of the group. These 2 stories are written where they intermingle perfectly without leaving you wondering about what’s happening. It’s a really good book.

Bound to the Wolf by A.C. Arther
We meet Marena as she leaves the firm’s anniversary celebration. She has gotten a room at the hotel to enjoy the weekend at the spa. But Davis, a partner at her law firm, has other plans for her. He attacks her and bites her. Then she shoots him until the gun is empty but there’s no body when the police get there! There are all kinds of action in this book. We have good wolves and bad wolves, Greek Gods and Goddesses all showing up at one time or another. You are definitely kept on your toes to see what happens next! I can’t wait to see what story comes next in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from Netgalley.

3.75 stars

I really did enjoy the second book in the Energy Vampires series. It immediately started off right in the middle of the action and it kept my attention for the entire book. This series definitely has a completely different feel than any other series that I've read from Jacquelyn Frank, but it's growing on me now.

Halo's main goal in life is to hunt down those of his kind that have crossed the line and become sycophants or non-law abiding vampires. When he is taken captive, along with a human woman named Felice, he is forced to re-evaluate how he has been playing fast and loose with the rules himself. After spending time with Felice, it opens him up to emotions he didn't believe he'd ever have.

Felice was just trying to hide from a dangerous ex-boyfriend in an upstate NY town when she was taken captive and introduced to a world she never knew existed. She is strong enough to adapt quickly and fight for a relationship with Halo, while still showing that she is not above asking for help.

The reader is also introduced to even more of the nuances of the vampire world and how far the corruption within the ranks might be. I am hoping that this part of the story continues to be a bigger part of each book as the series progresses.

All in all, I read this book much faster than the first in the series, so I'm very much looking forward to the next book to see where the story goes.
