Hunger is the second book in the energy vampire series. Halo is a hunter of vampires who have 'turned to the dark side' by becoming addicted to drugs and spiralling out of control, he disposed of them before they can cause trouble for the vampire race by revealing them living with the human race.
Halo awakes after a night of drinking and finds himself imprisoned with a human girl Felice. As 'e' vampires have to feed by obtaining 'energy' from humans Felice is being given heroin so when Halo can no longer resist and been drained of his energy he will have to feed off her and so become tainted and lead to him becoming addicted and he himself being turned into a syncophant, the very vampire he hunts.
The first 50% of this book is the developing relationship between Halo and Felice and how they escape, the second half is full of action, drama and passion.
This is a great story which I thoroughly enjoyed, I thought the first book Thirst was good but feel this was even better, well written and page turning
My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book honestly.

My Rating: 2.5 Stars
Halo is a hunter, one of the best. He lives life fast, loose and with few, if any rules. Love ‘em, feed from them and leave ‘em, no strings and he is gone. Felice is a strong and warm- hearted woman who has chosen poorly in love. They are strangers, but when both are captured and forced to be together, both Hao and Felice play a dangerous game of attraction under the scrutiny of the unseen enemy. The plan was to use Felice to poison Halo with tainted energy, will he fall to the machinations of a twisted sycophant’s plan?

Jacquelyn Frank’s HUNGER is the second book in her Energy Vampires series and while the synopsis promises so much intrigue and action, the presentation fell flat for me. How could two naked prisoners not catch one’s attention, especially when one is a vampire? These two damaged souls are most definitely attracted to each other, but both of them have baggage, both of them have issues and those issues were repeated over and over again, almost to the point of eye-rolling.
I was disappointed in the flat main characters, but did delight in the supporting characters that came over halfway through this paranormal tale. Slow on action, low on intrigue and pretty tame on the romance that never seems to be as magical as it could have been from an author who usually delivers in spades.

Hunger: The Energy Vampires Book Two Kindle Edition
by Jacquelyn Frank
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was thrilled, after reading the first novel, Thirst, in this series , that Halo was the next hero. What can I `say, I love the damaged hero. And Halo is definitely damaged. A hunter seeking out sycophants, evil energy vampires, he walks the line between good and evil as almost a punishment for all that he has and will do. Women to him, are disposable, as he always chooses ones he can walk away from, women who only want a moment of pleasure and forgetfulness. As the best hunter, he is `sent after one of their leaders who has turned sycophant. And the great hunter's caught himself, locked in a room to `starve or attack an innocent woman trapped with him and become sycophant himself.
This is more than a simple love story. Hunger is a vampiric version of the Most Dangerous game and thrilling for it. That isn't to `say that there isn't more than enough steam to power a locomotive. There is. But the cat and cat chase is thrilling.
Ms. Frank also does a wonderful job with narrator'`s voices. She gives us a view into the characters through one liners.
I would have to say that Hunger was better than the first novel in the series Thirst

I did enjoy this book but it was not one of my favorite books by her. It was slow and draggy in sections

The second installment of Jacquelyn Frank's Energy Vampire Series is even more intriguing than the first one. Waking up naked and alone in a walled up room with no way out, would freak out most people, except Halo is not like that. He isn't even human. A vampire and a very strong one at that, he is also a hunter. Considering his captivity from all angles he is curious as to why he is there. Then a TV mounted on the wall revels the has a mate. In an identical room. Except she is human. And when they are thrown together, his desire to literally eat her up becomes stronger than the one to feed from her. Which in a way is good, because she's been tainted. Drugged and to feed from her would be his doom. Which is exactly what his captor wants. Saving her and himself becomes Halo's mission, then his salvation, because for as long as he can remember Halo has been a loner. Living a sad existence. If he doesn’t bond with anyone, no one can be used against him. He is stronger alone… or so he thinks because soon enough this vamp will fall for a sweet, sassy and very strong human… A sexy, thrilling, tale full of romance, mystery and a HEA.

Ok so going into this I just tried to keep an open mind. This moved along well, riding on the side of cheesy here and there. All in all I enjoyed the read, the story worked for me, held my attention that took me to the end.

Hunger is a fast paced, paranormal romance with a different kind of vampires….which surprised me. These vampires take their energy from the sun and they have to take their blood from pure, clean source or risk becoming sycophants or phants for short. They are vampires who have crossed a line and have fed from unclean sources (junkies were used as an example). So, I was pretty excited to read this book. While I wasn’t disappointed, I did feel let down at points in the book.

Why did I feel let down? Well, for one, I don’t like reading books out-of-order from a series. Hunger is not a standalone book that can be read out-of-order from the series and I honestly felt ripped off when Halo was going over the history of the e-vampires with Felice. Why ripped off? Because you know that more insight was given in the first book. But that’s on me. The other reason was that I felt that the book was rushed in some parts. I would have loved to see Felice in her store or being more natural. Not coming off of heroin and being hurt.

I did like Felice, though. She had been through a lot before being taken. She had to uproot her entire life because of an abusive ex-boyfriend who was stalking her. That takes guts. Her being on heroin actually wasn’t her fault either. She was injected with it prior to Halo coming so when he fed on her, he would turn. She was so sweet and her reaction to Halo telling her about him being a vampire was priceless. I think I would have had the same reaction….lol.

Halo, I liked too. But I didn’t like the name. It reminded me too much of the game and I did like that he actually brought that up….lol. What I liked was that he had no problems letting Felice know that he was a player and that no one tied him down. He was also fiercely loyal to his queen and was determined to find the men who imprisoned Felice and himself. Not going to say who….you need to read the book to find that out for yourselves!!

The sex between Felice and Halo was beyond hot. It was page burning hot and I couldn’t get them out of my head after I finished the book. So, yeah, it stays with you….lol.

The end of the book was pretty good but I really didn’t like it. I wanted more. I wanted to see who the next book would be about (I do have my suspicions).

How many stars will I give Hunger: 3

Why: Like I said above, I felt that the book was rushed in places. But I did like Halo and Felice and thought that their romance was hot and sexy.

Will I reread: Maybe

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Sex, violence and language

2 1/2 Star review......

My introduction to Ms Frank’s work was accidently discovering her Nightwalker series. Stories set in a unique paranormal world, with a wealth of intense character interaction, action-packed and extremely passionate; I was hooked!

So while I have endeavoured to rekindle my appetite for this author’s writing, I find that her latest undertakings lack the passion and easy flowing style of her previous works.

Overall, the dialogue was too long in places and the chemistry between the main couple never really evolved. I’m hoping the next story in this series is better.

Hunger is a sexy, engaging paranormal romance. There are elements of suspense, and a definite thriller vibe going on. However, it’s not actually scary for the reader, just intense for the characters.

If you love paranormal romance and want a story that will quickly draw you in, wrap you up and have you rooting for the main characters, this is the story for you!

I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGallery, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have mixed feeling as I write the review for this book because I enjoy this story very much but I felt in parts something was missing. As a lover of most of Ms Franks’ books I don’t want to show anything but positivity for this book and I want readers to pick it up and enjoy the ride. I will read more of this series and everything by this author always.

This book was amazing! Been awhile since I read a book that kept my attention is such a way!

Just wasn't for me, the story was well written but I felt no connection to either the H or h. In fact I didn't really feel there was any chemistry between them, the hero spent most of the story thinking how not into Felice he was and I kinda felt that they ended up together through her will power.

Good book but disappointing. The first in the series was amazing. This one just lost steam.

Oye this one was painful! Sadly I had to crawl and tear my way through this one. The writing was so redundant, the dialog disjointed and the story a bit eye rolling. I really like paranormal romance but this one just didn't have the chops to hold my interest or attention for very long. There was so much dialog that was just the same conversations over and over and over again. The were a lot of inconsistencies in the story line. The "chemistry" (and I use that term lightly) was forced and awkward for the majority of the story. If they had one more conversation about Halo and his concern of feeding from Felice and becoming an addict I was going to lose it. I plugged on hoping for some great action or something but everything just kind of stayed on this not too impressive track and I was left feeling like many hours had been wasted.

Halo's life as a hunter changed one night when he momentarily let down his guard. He was always vigilant and was the best hunter there was. It was something he excelled out until the hunter became the hunted. Finding himself trapped he meets Felice. She called every protective instinct to protect her and keep her safe from harm. Felice has no idea the vampire community exists let alone uses humans for their energy source. She is desperate to keep her memories of Halo and all ththe time they spent together. The good and the bad memories are something she will always cherish.

So... Hmm, where to start? This one was okay. I have read books by this author that I really liked, then some that I kept waiting for the action to start. This one happened to fall in the second category.

i like the idea. The way the story is it is very dependent on dialogue to keep things going, and sex too. The dialogue to me would have been okay for a story where it wasn't the only thing keeping the story going, but here I feel it needed to be more complex and consistent to the characters. It starts with a man vamp and a human woman kidnapped and trapped together... Oh and they're naked too. No clothes, no sheets, and only a narrow window in which to gauge time and days past. There is starving evamp, and tainted girl. Tainted girl could mean bad bad things for vamp should he lose his control and feed on her heroine tainted energy. Yes, it is one of those, there's lots of cheesy goin' on here.

I feel the the characters fell a bit flat. They didn't seem real, they seemed cookie cutter and convenient to me. I wanted more layers. The woman kinda got on my nerves. The male was mean at times and was forgiven too easily making the woman seem desperate.

i do so like the idea of energy vamps. I like the idea of their history but wish the topic was more explored and more detailed.

This is book 2 in the Energy Vampires series and it doesn't disappoint! I highly recommend you read the first book so you understand what exactly is happening and aren't confused. This one follows Halo and Felice. They both wake up in a separate rooms with no door's or window's. I really liked how Felice and Halo interacted while they were being held. They are both snarky individuals and I enjoyed how they talked to each other. And I really liked how concerned Halo was about Felice when they escaped. How he always made sure she was safe. I would have given this book 5 stars but there were a few issues I had with it. I didn't enjoy how Halo acted after he eliminated the main threat to Felice. He went from being this strong man who stands for her to a big jerk. I didn't like that at all. And I didn't like how Felice had to go after him and what he was doing when she did. It left me with some questions of what else had he done. Over all, this book is a great book. I am just left with some questions at the end that I hope are answered in the later books.

Hunger, The Energy Vampires Book Two, Jacquelyn Frank

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, Sci-fi and fantasy.

I really wanted to like this, I love the vampire romance genre but...it wasn't to be.

I found it really dragged, with the first half covering Halo and Felice in captivity. Just the two of them talking, arguing, bickering with occasional voice overs from the captors, that's all it was. Halo wants to know why he and Felice were taken, thinks he can guess at who's behind it but has no idea where Felice fits in.
Frankly by the time I'd got to halfway and they'd finally managed to escape ( I think its about 55% they make it out) I didn't care who took them and why, I was tired of the plot, tired of the characters and just wanted it to go somewhere. At 25% I was amazed they were still improisoned and started flicking forward to see if that was going to be the whole story or if they would ever breakout...
When they finally escaped and met back with the others I still didn't really feel the story was going anywhere. I wasn't convinced of the love between him and Felice, and had lost heart for the whole story.

It felt unreal to me, I know its fantasy but for me the plots and characters have to feel as if they could happen if the setting was real life. It didn't.
I just didn't feel anything for either Halo or Felice, we knew so little about them really, and what did come out didn't make me like them. I think that first half with all its eternal talking everything to death, bickering and Felice's constant changing her mind spoiled it for me. Then would anyone really get the hots for a total stranger when you've been captured, stripped and imprisoned with him? Surely panic and anger would be more likely, not steamy make out sessions knowing the cameras are watching...

Ah well, you win some you lose some, and this was in the lose column for me. Doesn't mean you wont like it, I've loved stories others have 1 and 2 starred, we all want different things to read, have different triggers and things we enjoy in a story.

Stars: Two, novel that just didn't work for me, that I felt was going nowhere for far too long.
