"Bunny is looking forward to a cozy fall and winter with Hedgehog. But Hedgehog says he will start hibernating when the first leaf falls."
A beautifully told children's story about two friends, Bunny and Hedgehog and the coming winter. Bunny's antics to stop Hedgehog hibernating are so sweet and funny, and I loved the illustrations. The book is a treasure to read to children (or grandchildren, in my case) and to have them read it back to you in later years. A true treasure for my bookshelf.
Adorable! A sweet story about two friends. Bunny goes to great lengths to hide falling leaves--making Hedgehog think autumn hasn't yet arrived (therefore postponing his hibernation). Bunny doesn't want to be separated from his friend until spring
Filling his cellar until it's full and using ladders to reach tops trees--Bunny is temporarily successful in his attempts to make Hedgehog think fall hasn't arrived yet--that is until his secret is discovered. In the end Hedgehog decides Bunny's cellar full of leaves is the perfect place to hibernate--and Bunny can be close by.
An engaging picture book with colorful autumn-tone illustrations. Five stars.
'When Will Fall Arrive?' by Sanne Miltenburg is a cute story about the lengths some friends will go to just to be together.
Rabbit and Hedgehog are best pals. Rabbit can't wait to share the Winter with Hedgehog, but then Hedgehog tells Rabbit that during the winter he hibernates. Rabbit tries to delay this by gathering the falling leaves and painting all the ones on the trees, just so they can have the Winter together. As Hedgehog starts to get more and more tired, Rabbit's efforts are making him more and more tired. Can Rabbit keep it up?
I really liked this seasonal book about the changing seasons and these two friends. I loved Rabbit's work at trying to fool Hedgehog into thinking fall hadn't arrived. I really loved the illustrations and the colors used for this book.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Clavis Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
A 5 Star read. I really enjoyed the cozy art and story in this book and I think your child will, too. It is a book about seasons and missing and friendship that ends really dearly. I think this could be one of your child’s favorite books once enjoyed together. An English translation from the Dutch. I look forward to reading more of this author’s books in English. Highly recommend! Thanks to NetGalley for providing this ebook for review.
I received this arc from Netgalley for an honest review.
Rabbit and Hedgehog are great friends. It's fall and rabbit things that him and hedgehog and keep each other warm over the cold winter. Hedgehog reminds rabbit that he hibernates in the winter. Rabbit is sad and does not want his friend to hibernate, so he decides that if he can stop fall from ending then his friend will never hibernate. Rabbit tries to hide all signs of fall wrapping up, but its' hard work.
I can definitely see using this book during my pre-k storytimes. I love this illustrations and the storyline.
A bunny is worried he’ll be lonely without his best friend the hedgehog, who will be hibernating when it’s autumn. So he comes up with an elaborate plan to keep fall from happening: hide the red leaves.
His idea is heartwarming yet incredibly selfish, but of course it works out in the end.
As you might imagine, the artwork is dominated by red, especially at the end when all the leaves are gathered. Like certain cartoon ducks, they were shirts or jackets but not pants.
First off this book is VERY hard to read. The black lettering on the dark colored illustrations should be rethought before it goes to print. The story itself is adorable. Bunny loves his friend Hedgehog, and loves spending time with him. But Fall is coming and Hedgehog will have to hibernate the months away. Bunny doesn’t want to be alone, so he does everything he can to hide fall's arrival. But everyone must sleep, and Bunny has been more helpful than he know.

Such a cute story! Introduce the littles to hibernation and fall! Sweet, cozy illustrations!
Very cute book about friendship. When Hedgehog lets Bunny know he will be hibernating in the Fall. Bunny decides to hide all evidence of Fall so Hedgehog doesn't hibernate. This might be good to introduce to a child when a friend is moving away or Grandparents visit and head back home. They can express how they feel about missing someone or thought of having a Mom, Dad or sibling being gone for a period of time.
A charming and lovely tale that expresses the desire to keep friends near and the challenge of loving despite trials.
Hedgehog and Bunny are best friends, but fall is quickly approaching and Hedgehog will need to hibernate until spring. Bunny doesn’t know what he will do without his friend for that long, so as fall approaches and the leaves start changing colors, Bunny is doing whatever he can to make sure Hedgehog doesn’t see that fall is here! This is a fun, charming read for little ones accompanied by beautiful artwork. Definitely a must read children’s book!
Bunny and Hedgehog are BFFs. They spend quality time together every day enjoying meals, playing cards and just hanging out. Bunny is looking forward to being with his friend throughout the fall and cold winter months when time drags on but Hedgehog has other plans. He announces that he will be hibernating for the winter and it begins when the first leaf falls. Oh my! Whatever is Bunny going to do now without his best friend?
Poor Rabbit is devastated. How will he ever survive? He hatches a plan that he thinks will keep his friend by his side all through those dreary months ... or so he thinks. He decides he's going to go out every morning and collect all the fallen leaves so Hedgehog will not know when fall arrives. Day after day in the early morning before Hedgehog awakens Bunny is hard at work gathering and storing bags and bags of leaves in his burrow.
Will his clever scheme work? Can he actually pull this off? Will Hedgehog be tricked and stay awake to keep him company?
This is a wonderful story about friendship, enjoying being together and accommodating your friend. The illustrations are amazing. They are colourful, crisp and full of action and emotion. This is a tale that will stay in your heart long after the story has been told. I highly recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this book and the story. The characters were great and the images really helped to illustrate and tell the story, I really felt for Rabbit and what he was trying to achieve - 4 stars from me for this one
This is a really charming children's book with a great underlying story about friendship, terrific illustrations, and a fun tale that keeps the little ones interested.
Every Fall hedgehog gets ready to hibernate for the Winter, but Bunny doesn't want to lose his friend for months, so decides to hide Fall's arrival from Hedgehog. As the weather cools and more and more leaves turn red and drop, it gets tougher and tougher for Bunny to fool his friend. What are they going to do?
This is a great book to read to your little ones. The story is brought to vivid life with some terrific illustrations, that are full of life, fun, and a great sense of the changing seasons in the woods. The story is a fun one, as Bunny tries everything to fool Hedgehog about the changing seasons. There's a lovely sentiment to the tale, and plenty of fun too. The only thing that stops it being an absolute five-star classic is the prose is pretty straightforward, and isn't elevated by rhyme, or word choices that create a sense of rhythm as you read aloud. It just outlines what happens, which is fine, but feels a little bit of a missed opportunity considering how great everything else about the book is. That's being picky though. It's a very good book.
Overall, WHEN WILL FALL ARRIVE? is a nice, charming children's story that could easily become a family favorite, for the little ones and the adults reading to/with them. I would definitely recommend this to friends and family.
This is an adorably illustrated children's book about Bunny and Hedgehog's friendship. One night while together Hedgehog mentions that in the Fall and Winter he hibernates and Bunny is saddened by that thought. Who will he play with while his best friend is asleep?
Bunny decides that he will make it seem like Fall has not arrived yet so that he has more time with his friend and the book follows him as he attempts this very large task.
The story of this book is both cute and informative for young readers, they learn about animals, hibernation, and the seasons as well. The images are vibrant and cheerful, and the colors are everything Fall - oranges, yellows, reds, and browns and make me all the more excited for Fall to actually get here.
This was a very fun book about friendship and doing anything you can to keep your friend around. I really enjoyed it and I think kids and families will too.
Blog review will go live on July 24th.
This is a cute picture book about friendship. Bunny and Hedgehog are best friends. When Hedgehog tells Bunny that once the leaves begin to fall, he will hibernate until spring. Bunny is worried that he will miss his friend too much when he hibernates so he comes up with a plan. When he tries to fool Hedgehog into thinking fall has not come he does some silly things that children will laugh at. Unfortunately nature wins out and Hedgehog starts falling asleep eating etc. Bunny finally tells him the truth. Because Bunny's cellar is full of autumn leaves, Hedgehog will use them for his den and Bunny can go down and see him while he sleeps whenever he misses his friend. A cute book to teach about honesty and friendship. It can also be used to begin a discussion about hibernation and the fall. A good book to use in a kindergarten or primary classroom. The illustrations are cute and not too busy. Children will enjoy looking at them and seeing what Bunny is up to.
After finding out that his friend, Hedgehog, will hibernate throughout the Fall and Winter Rabbit deciding that he would miss his friend comes up with the best plan possibly. He will hide every red leaf in the forest--then, Hedgehog will stay with him throughout the seasons. While he thinks that this is best plan for keeping his friend Rabbit gets a workout--it is hard keeping every red leaf in a forest of trees out of sight!
When Hedgehog finally discovers what Rabbit has been trying to do the friends laugh and Hedgehog reminds Rabbit that he will return--and have much more energy then.
This was a sweet, imaginative book about friendship.
When Will Fall Arrive is a great little story about two friends who love spending time together. When the hedgehog informs his friend bunny he will be hibernating in the fall and winter, the bunny tries to collect every incoming leaf to stop the hibernation process. Little ones with friends coming and going would find comfort in the resolution of this story as well as enjoy the beautiful fall illustrations. This would be a great book for a preschool classroom or a preschooler at home.
