This was such a fun book. Takes children on such a fun adventure. Both my nephews absolutely adored this story, Would recommend to anyone who has a child that loves dragons! Artwork was great!
A dragon, an unlikely friendship and a Knight who learns to never give up. This is an adorable picture about a fearless Knight, a wise, lonely Dragon, who just wants a friend, and unlikely friendship that forms between them. This is a fun and inspiring picture book for kids. Mixed with easy to understand text, and adorable illustrations, this is a book kids will enjoy reading over, and over again. Plus, what's not to love about a friendly dragon who loves playing board games.
Enjoyable and fun for kids. I would purchase this or buy it for others. A great way to get your children interested in reading.
I like the way this book is put together. THe slow progression/escalation is exactly you want to see in a picture book, especially as its taken to a ridiculous level.
This is just one of those picture books that a parent delights in reading. Your kids will love Nick and his journey.
Nick the Knight, Dragon Slayer by Aron Dijkstra is a picturebook which features two of the most popular characters in children's books, a knight and a dragon. In the story Nick the Knight can't wait to fight Breakhorn the Dragon, but Breakhorn just doesn't feel like it. He keeps making up excuses to put off the fight but brave little Nick won't give up.
Nick the Knight, Dragon Slayer is a delightful picturebook about determination, and stopping to listen. Nick wants to fight the dragon, but every time he approaches Breakhorn he is turned away because of something different. Finally, Nick and Breakhorn actually talk for a minute and an unlikely friendship forms. I like that Nick shows persistence and determination. I really loved that the dragon looked and sounded fierce, but was really lonely and a little sad. I think Nick's solution to the problem was perfect, and found the fact that he did get to beat the dragon at something in the end as fun.
'Nick the Knight, Dragon Slayer' by Aron Dijkstra is about a tiny brave guy fighting an enormous dragon.
Nick the Knight is anxious to fight Breakhorn the dragon. The people in his town are afraid, but Nick will protect them. First he has to find the dragon. Once he does, the dragon refuses to fight such a tiny person, Nick will have to up his game. How will Nick defeat such a large dragon.
I really liked this story about courage and making new friends. The art is a lot of fun. I love Nick's curly, unruly hair, and Breakhorn's ornamentation.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Clavis Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
A sweet story, stunningly illustrated! Nick the (little) Knight fancies himself big and strong enough to fight the great dragon Breakhorn who lives at the top of the mountain. He treks up the mountain (and back down) several times. Each time, Breakhorn refuses to fight Nick. And each time, Nick engages the village blacksmith for larger equipment--a sword, a shield, armor--all to no avail. Breakhorm won't fight. In the end, Breakhorn turns out to be a friendly dragon and Nick is able to beat him--in a game of chess. Cute. Five stars. Sure to become a favorite in your child's library.
Such a cute quick reading story is Nick the Knight, Dragon Slayer by Aron Dijkstra. What I liked is the wonderful big ideas that it conveys to the young reader. My grandchildren liked that Nick never gives up. Of course, they also found the humor in the bigger is better idea that did not always work. However, being open to finding the gift of acceptance and friendship in an unexpected place was what they enjoyed the most. They loved the ending with Nick getting his goal and so did the dragon for that matter too.
The text is simple but expressive. It was still too difficult for the beginning second grader in the family to read but by the end of second grade I think it could be independently read. The art work in the illustrations is marvelous, deserving more than a passing glance. It is a simple story with great meaning, a marvelous addition to the home or classroom.
I receive digital copies for review but my grandson wants a “real” copy of this one as his own when it is available in November. I always consider that high praise when a child loves a book.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.
The author says this is a "book about big dreams," but it's also about perseverance and the realization that there's more than one way to win a fight. Nick troops up the mountain to fight the dragon, Breakhorn, who refuses. Nick's sword is too small. After the village blacksmith crafts a "gigantic sword" and he returns, Blackhorn points out his lack of a shield. Back to the blacksmith. Another trip up the mountain, only to be told that Nick himself is too small to fight. So the blacksmith crafts an enormous suit of armor. (This is one accommodating blacksmith.) Nick drags himself back up the mountain one final time, and falls over, exhausted. And finds out the dragon is lonely. They end up playing chess, which Nick wins.
The colorful illustrations are charming, and Nick's silly poof of yellow hair made me laugh. Your children are bound to enjoy looking at the drawings, and so will you.
Nick the Knight was originally published in 2016 in the Netherlands.
A fun and magical tale of Nick, the Knight, illustrating how there's many ways to overcome obstacles when you dream big! Fabulous illustrations compliment this adventure making it a great choice for a read aloud.
I really love dragons and books about dragons and this cover was so eye catching that I wanted to give it a read. Nick the Knight has always wanted to fight a dragon, so he gets ready and heads out only to realize that the dragon won't fight him. The tale take a wonderful turn at the end and it is moving and sweet.
The story is a lot of fun but the pictures are even more excellent. They are intricate and have so much going on, you can spend a good amount of time just looking at all the goodies in them. The colors are gorgeous and I love all the details. This book is absolutely charming in all the best ways.
Review will be live on Blog on 11/6
I LOVED this book! It has so beautiful illustrations (dragon is magnificient!) and the story is amazing. It has a good point and I think the kids will love as much as I did.
I received this arc from Netgalley for an honest review.
Nick has waited his whole life to become a Dragon Slayer. It is finally time to take on the dragon, but when he gets to the top of the dragon layer, the dragon has lots of excuses as to why they can not fight. The dragon has an excuse every day and eventually the two strike up an unlikely friendship.
It was delightful, the story cute and the illustrations wonderfully detailed. And it’s not scary at all. The dragon looks rather worn but friendly, and the knight looks refreshingly innocent. His dream is a big one, and he shows great persistence, and some fun ingenuity, in following it. You’ll love the end. It fit so perfectly with the lighthearted feel of the rest of the book.
I received this as a free ARC from NetGalley and Clavis Books. These are my own honest thoughts about it.
Nick the Knight decides it’s about time he fought a dragon so he heads off to find the undefeated Breakhorn. When Nick finally unearths the sleeping giant dragon his foe laughs at the knight’s tiny sword and sends him away. The classic picture book structure continues with three attempts to solve Nick’s problem (a bigger sword! A shield! Armor!). All seems lost until Nick, and the dragon, come up with a solution. Will Nick defeat Breakhorn? You’ll just have to read the book to find out.
Gorgeous illustrations bring this adventurous tale of a young knight to life and the fun conclusion will make kids (and their parents) smile.
Entertaining and fun to read with kids. Great illistrations. Good book about friendship and inner turmoil to decide what's right. Would recommend this book.
Nick the Knight, Dragon Slayer! Nick is a brave little knight who has never fought a dragon before but he can't wait till he finally does! When he faces the dragon, some problems arise. But Nick is determined and persistent. This charming story about friendship in unexpected places, and childhood dreams is very sweet.
Nick is a determined little boy with big dreams. He is a persistent problem solver who doesn't give up. The dragon is this book is just tired of fighting, and he's quite lonely. Can he make friends with Nick? There are many ways to defeat a dragon, the fun twist at the end shows us just how it's done. It also shows us that being friends is the best.
The illustrations in this book are bold and fun, but they aren't garish. They are so pretty. The dragon is big and bold, the village is colorful. Very well done.
My youngest and I enjoyed this book very much. We read it on the computer, since my e reader is black and white. I am certain that a hard copy of this book would be a beautiful gift to a child. This is a good story time book for adults to read to children!
I received this book from NetGalley. I was under no obligation to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

This is a story about a boy whose dream is to fight the mighty dragon and win. What ends up happening is better then any dragon battle ever was. I loved the illustrations in this book. They were detailed and very colorful. Would love to share this book with any child who loves the fantasy of the knights fighting the dragons.
Will post this review to goodreads closer to publication.
This is a wonderful story, which, at first, reminded me of the Hobbit and Smaug but then developed its own magic.
I can recommend this to anyone who wishes to be a knight and fight dragons.
