Caveat: This is my first review, and I am thus starting out on the strict end...leaving "room at the top". I plan to offer more constructive than just positive reviews...
Pros: I found the pictures charming and fun to look at. I think they would be engaging. The basic idea of the story is appealing and fun.
Cons: On the other hand, though, I felt the language was average and maybe too jocular for my taste. "a boat a boat a boat", "that's ridiculous", "no way". It had some wit, but could have used a bit more. It wouldn't necessarily be suitable for one of my classes, but I might recommend it for a parent of a child at the right age, especially as the pictures are fun.
This charming book is just perfect to share with your little one if you are beginning the potty training process. The author uses simple ideas to teach children important life skills and concepts.
One day a strange object just falls out of the sky and lands right on top of Dog's head. "A hat!" says Dog... but is it a hat really? The object gets passed on to different animals and each one has a unique opinion as to what it is and its use. Bear thinks its a bucket, Cat is convinced it is a little bed, Elephant and Sea Lion says no way, it's a circus toy, Seagull laughs and declares it is a boat and Anteater weighs in with his opinion, insisting it's a flower vase, just to name a few. Oh my who is right? Do you have any ideas?
Along comes Hare who is visibly upset and angry. He shouts NOOOOO!! at the top of his lungs and claims that he is the true owner of the object. He informs all the animals by his words and by his actions just what the object is and how you use it. My goodness gracious... who knew? Did you?
The illustrations are colourful and mainly digitally designed. The ideas are full of imagination and fun. I highly recommend this book.
This is a delightful little kids book with a simple but fun story that had my toddler fully engaged, giggling, pointing out and naming animals and actions, and saying 'again, again' when we got to the end. We had to re-read it several times, and her delight didn't waver.
An unusual object goes pling-plong-plang-pling-plop and lands on Dog's head. Is it a hat? Not according to Bear, and the other animals, who each have their own ideas about how to use it.
Anita Bijsterbosh's illustrations are wonderful, full of color and life. My daughter was hooked on the interesting array of animals, which are rendered in a fun manner. The storyline is pretty simple, but works well, with the added benefit of introducing little ones to the idea of what a potty is. One that I can see us reading over and over and over in coming months.
The adorable, lovely, bright illustrations and simple story had my kids (3 & 6) giggling throughout. We all loved the silly ideas the animals had for how to use the potty, and enjoyed brainstorming other ideas. This would be a great book for a child who is just learning to use the potty, this book might help them demonstrate their own expertise on the subject and boost confidence.
My three year old grandson loved this book. He has a little blue potty so he identified with this book right away. He thought it was funny that all the animals were doing different things with the potty and loved to shout "NO" at the various pages. The illustrations were cute and colourful. I would not use this book to help teach about using the potty, but it is a fun book to read to a child while they are using the potty. Fortunately he is too young to really think about putting a potty on your head and how disgusting that would be, he just thought it was funny. A cute easy to read book for a family library.
Every once in a while I let my children chip in with reviewing which they find fun and entertaining, me? I find nothing but good in the fact they are willing and even excited to partake in reading.
This is one my three year old daughter picked out.
My Potty is about a little red potty that is on the go, everyone takes their guess as to what it is and use it for various things other than the intended purpose. It is a cute rude, the pictures kept my kiddo engaged and the wording was so simplistic that as I read she repeated my words. I found that fantastic, that they were that simple that she could easily tell the story [after me,] herself. That itself was great.
Did it have much of a story other than a traveling potty? No. Personally, with potty books I like to see more about them using the potty. That's just my opinion, but this was a cute, quick read and easy enough for my daughter to grasp and repeat!
The potty training comes in different shapes and creative solutions. As someone in the middle of this process - and not always successful - trying to play different role games is helpful. The red potty is used in different ways by the animals, each and every one trying to figure out how to use it. Besides offering an attractive visual alternative to the repeated pledges to the child to use the potty instead of -...well, there are many answers to this - it also diversifies the knowledge about animals and their playful habits.
It is an easy to read, and pleasant to look at book, with - hopefully - some good inspiration for this important life stage of the child's development.
A lovely colourful book with beautiful illustrations. I love the use of different animals. This book will be very engaging for children.
