Exploited by A. Meredith Walters
When I saw that Exploited ends in a cliffhanger that will be resolved in Aftermath, I decided to wait on reading this so I could read them together and not forget anything (my memory on books isn't the best). But, it's been 5.5 years and Aftermath still isn't available. I can only assume the book was cancelled. As such, I am giving up and will not be reading this book. I'm giving it a 3-star rating because that seems as neutral as I can get!
Between the unlikable female MC, the bumbling male MC and the unbelievable side story, I was already annoyed. Then the author talks about just randomly having the character decide someone was male because it was easier to assign a pronoun to something AND finding out that this book ends on a cliffhanger and book #2 has never been written, I threw in the towel after a few chapters.
This is my first read by this author and Exploited intrigued me at page one. Hannah the hacker with a cause and Mason the hot shot FBI agent who is unknowingly hunting her. Their story is full of secrets, lies, deception, romance, intrigue, and an ending that left me screaming for more! Looking forward to the next book!
It took me a while to get to this book, when I finally got to it I was not as happy as I normally I'm when I read this author. To me this specific title was really slow and I could not get connected to any of the main characters. I tried but sadly I DNF. I am thankful that I had the opportunity because I love Ms. Walters but for Exploited...nope.
I'm usually a fan of this author but I couldn't connect to this story. Sorry
Thanks Netgalley for the Arc
Thank you for the opportunity to review this title. Unfortunately in this case I found it difficult to connect to the story. As I didn't completely finish this book I will not be publishing a review. We do not review uncompleted books on the blog, and again, thank you for sending through a review copy. Although this title didn't work for me, I do look forward to reading more from this author in the future as I've adored this authors work in the past.
I usually rate higher stars with this authoress, but it felt like a spin off of the Bourne Series, and it dragged out for me. Not bad, readable but didnt find or feel the WOW factor
I've been a fan of A. Meredith Walters's books for a long time and I was really looking forward to Exploited, since from the blurb it seemed like it would be totally different from her other books so far.
It is a story full of suspense that I just couldn't put down! I loved Hannah and I can't wait to see how her story continues in Aftermath.
I always love a good romantic suspense so when I read this synopsis it totally caught my eye. I quickly dug in and while it was easy to follow, I soon found the plot a bit too unrealistic, it was almost cringeworthy coincidental, and I did not like the heroine. BUT! What did I like? Mason. Oh, I loved Mason.
Mason deserves a relationship, he is such a perfect hero. Smart, hot, badass, an FBI agent, brooding…the list goes on. He met Hannah and his attraction to her was supposedly real and special, but sadly I could not feel it. Hannah was not really into Mason at all, and it constantly felt like she was trying to convince herself to fall for him. She was also a total liar and I never once felt sorry for her. She was a terrible person. The sexual attraction was zero. Soooo, it was really hard for me to want them together. Mason deserved better.
The storyline could have been good, but the coincidental stuff threw me off, and I didn’t find the physical attraction or emotional connection to be something I bought into here. On paper the words on the pages said that Hannah and Mason had both the physical and emotional connection, but it never translated for me.
The ending was interesting. It all started to come together. I am quite confident I know who is out to get Hannah, and am surprised she didn’t see it considering she was supposedly one of the best in the world at hacking.
Rec it? Eh. Not really. It was a quick read, and both the storyline and romance were fairly bland. There was nothing heart pumping about any of it, but it was still something I finished reading. Maybe check out your friends’ reviews and see if you think it’s worth picking up.
Good luck and happy reading!
This book felt like I was reading a romance version of the movie Anti-Trust from the early 2000s! I liked the layout of the story and the characters and how they interacted. I am hoping to read the next book since this had me reeling until the end where it gave me the cliff-hanger! Good work!
Loved this one. Great story and characters!!! Can't wait to read more of this author in the future.
I started Exploited by A. Meredith Walters a month ago. But I had a really hard time getting into the story so I put it down then picked it back up only a few days ago. And when I reached chapter 6, I just couldn’t stop.
♥ The story ♥
Exploited tells the story of Hannah, an IT employee by day and a hacker by night. She has a mission and refuses to be stopped. That’s why she decides to get close to the FBI agent who’s on her case. So she can know if they’re close to finding out her hidden identity. What she hasn’t planned is falling for the said agent : Mason.
♥ My review ♥
Once I got into the story, and it took me a little time like I said above, I couldn’t put the book down. The story was so addictive. I liked how easily Hannah and Mason bonded. It was sweet and I thought their relationship was really beautiful. It put a smile on my face.
The suspens was really great. I love the thrill it brings to a good romance. This was the case in this book. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next and I felt myself investigating along with Hannah. Between the mysterious partner she’s working with, her fun but suspicious colleague, it was all so interesting.
The only thing I had a problem with (and I guess, it’s a big thing), was Hannah‘s betrayal. Even though I could totally understand her mission and supported it as well as being afraid she got caught and well we know she feels guilty about Mason, it still bothered me. I mean, how can she do it ? How will he ever forgive her ? It broke my heart how much they instantly felt connected to each other and how he fought his suspicious nature to truly trust her. And to say she’s going to do that to him ? Argh! No, I just can’t.
But I’m so curious to see what will happen next and see how Mason will react and both will go from there. There’re just too many unanswered questions. I need book 2 ASAP!
So yes, if you didn’t know, I’m warning you, this book ends on a cliffhanger.
Freedom Overdrive a hacktivist who the FBI has been trying to find for years but with no luck. They do acts that bring they untouchable, corrupt people down yet are done through illegal means, making them still illegal, but respected. Hannah just so happens to be Freedom Overdrive and Mason is her target and he has no idea.
I had found this book forever ago and as instantly captivated by the cover (it's so pretty!) and the synopsis so when I had the opportunity to read the book I was excited. Unfortunately, this was not what I was expecting or hoping for and that may be my own fault since I had high expectations. Due to that fact, I will make this review pretty short.
I found the book was really sad for the most part, almost every aspect of the story-line made me feel slightly depressed, and at times I had to take a break. The book is not super long but I could not zoom through it like normal and it took me forever to finish because I just wasn't feeling it. I would categorize this as a dual narrated romantic suspense due to the romantic potential and the mysterious twists. The book does have a cliff hanger so be prepared for no answers but a LOT of angst and despair.
Overall this was an ok book, I just was not in love with it- I enjoyed the premise of it while I was reading it but could set it down and promptly forgot about it. I don't think this was for me, but I am sure that someone else will love it and not be able to put it down. That being said I would like to read the next book in the series to see how everything will play out and to see if my theories are correct about who is behind everything.

The story of Exploited revolves around this tech- savvy woman named Hannah whose family has been wronged in so many ways. Rather than conceding, she takes matters into her own hands. Literally. She devises this intricate plan to take down these corrupt companies who have not only underhanded her personally but others as well. She was in a sense a vigilante.
A part of her quest was to infiltrate the FBI. For everyone else, this would have been a daunting task but considering Hannah wit and intelligence it wasn't difficult at all. Things change however when Mason enters the picture and when strong emotions between the two become involved.
And although the book comes with a disclaimer that this story ends with a major cliffhanger, I wasn't disappointed at all. The unpredictability of the story plot, the character development, the relationship build-up between the main characters and Hannah's quest for justice itself is well worth it.
Looking for an intense, romantic suspense that will have you begging for more? Then Exploited is the perfect choice for you!
Fascinating book!! Loved it!! I really enjoyed reading this one! It was so intriguing! I devoured this in one sitting! So good! I loved the writing and the characters! I highly recommend this book!
I love this Author's writing style and her books in the past.
This however is something new for her and I applaud her for doing something unique!
You will find that this is a twisted hacker romance.
This woman, Hannah lives a double life..... and well, she thinks she is doing this for good, but is she? And then the FBI agent..... her life collides and well, it's sexy, intriguing and ends with a cliffy that you'll truly want more of!!!!
Can't wait to see what happens next!
Recv'd copy via Netgalley in exchange for honest review.
Oh wow! This story is so good. It's romantic suspense at its very best and I couldn't tear myself away. The story ends on a cliffhanger so of course I'm now champing at the bit to read the sequel, Aftermath. Author Meredith Walters is new to me but if this story is an example of what she can do, her books will have a permanent place on my bookshelves. I was kept guessing from start to finish. Who was doing what to whom? Which feelings were real? Secondary characters Rose and Kyle provided excellent red herrings, but were they really red herrings? Who is Toxicwrath? I can't wait to find out. And will Hannah and Mason have a happy ever after or has Hannah destroyed any chance of that? So many questions. Such a gripping read. Such a well told tale!
Loved it! It was relatively fast paced without rushing the relationship. The characters are all relatable and the dialogue was natural. It even had a few heart pounding moments when Mason goes to visit with Hannah to see her sister and her Mom would not shut up!!! I've already pre-ordered "Aftermath" on my Nook and can't wait to see how their relationship plays out.
This book was not great. The characters were just okay, and the writing was alright. It hooked me enough to finish it, but I was greatly disappointed by the end. It kept feeling like it was going somewhere, but never really got there. By 2/3 the way through, I began thinking, how is this going to wrap up given the number of pages left, and SPOILER ALERT: it didn't wrap up. I get that it is a series, but it really ended on a cliff hanger and didn't hook me enough to care to read the next book to find out the conclusion.
A Scintillating Tale and Study in Multidimensional Exploitation!!!
*taking a huge breath* Yes, this story takes your breath away in the most fascinating way. It is an intelligent, intricate story involving the intersection of an online vigilante cracker, our heroine, Hannah and Hannah the woman who steps into the real world and attempts to manipulate (exploit) the weaknesses of FBI agent, Mason, much like she "exploits" weaknesses in secure information systems of evil doers/"exploiters". She really is not eager to interface with a real human in her exploits but she needs to make contact to find out the extent of this agent's knowledge of her nefarious activities. She knows this because of the information passed on to her by the partner she recently acquired in a deep net chat room to assist her in her cracking efforts. This new cracker, remains an enigma, although if you are paying attention to the subtle clues in the read, you may form an idea or two in your mind as to the identity or identities of this or these individual(s).
Ms. Walters applies a practiced pen to the deep and stirring emotions of the characters. Hannah is instantly attracted to Agent Mason, both his demeanor and his tall, handsome, blonde hair and blue eyed good looks.
Hannah creates a false persona tailor made to Mason as she presents herself to him.Mason has a niggling feeling that she is so perfect for him...it is too good to be true.
From the moment he meets her and as he falls in love with her, he suppresses his intuition even as she is caught in outright lies. Hannah uses her own honest grief and guilt feelings involving her sister who is severely debilitated by the auto accident that also caused the death of her father to exploit the weakness of the unresolved guilt and grief Mason is carrying over the death of his brother. Their connection for all the lies and abuse of trust on Hannah's part is deep and to the bone. There is one intense sexual scene in which I felt that flutter in my tummy...it was so explicit, raw and beautifully Alpha male.
It is because Hannah stays closer than she should for both reasons...her vigilante mission and their blossoming real love that things fall apart.Watching this descent into literal madness is fascinating, brilliant in the exploitation of a reader's emotions and exceedingly clever writing.
Yes, we are left on a cliff but we are not just hanging there. You are left there brain and heart engaged thinking and feeling deeply for yes both these characters/lovers. Most of all, you will be left hoping the next book comes soonest!
I was introduced to this book as an ARC from NetGalley. This author seriously deserved to get paid for so fine a story! I put my money where my review is, so without hesitation I vouch for the value of this fascinating and scintillating tale.
