What a cute series this is!
I was surprised to see it was all one long story, and not just a collection of shorter ones. I found it very entertaining and quite adorable, I loved how they captured each of the character's personalities and created these mini versions of them all.
And I'm a Harley fan, and I'm glad this version of her stays true to her character, and the little (but adorable) mess she is. She's always causing trouble, without really meaning to, and is always very eager to help (even if other people won't let her, because she might mess up... I'm looking at you, Batgirl).
I hadn't read this series yet, but had seen it around and wanted to give it a try. I didn't know if I would feel a bit lost, since I didn't know what happens in the previous volumes. But I could totally keep up with the story. So if you, like me, are interested in this, but worry that you haven't read the other volumes, just go ahead and give it a try yourself :)
That was fun. The class is going on a field trip to pre-history with Liberty Belle to visit the dinosaurs, where could that go wrong?
Harley and Batgirl also have an ongoing debate through the entire TPB about who knows more about dinosaurs and it plays a big part of the TPB. They're told not to change the past of course, but, they do, and when they get back to their school, it's no longer Amanda Waller in charge, but Vandal Savage.
While the rest of the field trippers fight Savage with the Savage world's Bumblebee helping them, Harley Quinn and Batgirl bounce around in the past, inadvertently helping famous women and seeing some history as well.
The ending isn't surprising, it's a kid's book after all, but, I liked the story and especially stuff like seeing Amanda Waller in the 1980s. That was awesome.
I was given this ARC by Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment.
With three volumes under my belt, I can give this series my whole-hearted support. Now, this wasn't my favorite volume, in part because it centers on Harley Quinn. I feel like the plot was pretty obvious, both the "messing with the time line" and "very different characters having to work together" elements. Of course, obvious plots are less of a detriment in books for the very young so it's not a total loss.
I greatly enjoy how DC has started given their female super heroines more and more to do, and the "Super Hero High" series is one of the most fun examples of this new direction. Showing young girls that not only can super heroines like Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, and others be fun to read about, but relatable as well. I recommend this series to any and all kids who come into the library looking for super hero stories. Please keep up the good work, DC, because this series is very fun and very empowering.
My young readers are really enjoying this series! Keep it up!
This is the first DC Super Hero Girls comic I've read. It was super cute!
I loved how all the super heroes are kids in this series! Young readers can fall in love with these classic super heroes. It's especially important that it focuses on the female super heroes, such as Wonder Woman and Batgirl, since most super hero entertainment is aimed towards a male audience.
These stories also translate the characters into appropriate storylines for kids. I love Harley Quinn but her graphic novels are definitely not appropriate for children. However, the same characters are in this graphic novel without losing any of their personality. For example, Harley is able to charm dogs and she calls the baby dinosaur her "puddin'."
I really liked this graphic novel and would definitely recommend it for middle grade readers.
I enjoy the DC Super Hero Girls series. It's a fun entry point for younger readers ready to move up to chapter books, populated with friendly versions of popular superhero characters. My daughter (8) is not really a reader, but she gets very excited about these books. The bad guys aren't terribly scary, which works well for my sensitive kiddo.
The gang takes a field trip to the Jurassic period to learn about dinosaurs. The kids get the full dinosaurs experience: chased by a Tyrannosaurus Rex, mixed it up with pterodactyls, and impersonated a diplodocus. And no time travel adventure is complete without the requisite butterfly effect on the time line. Oops! It's up to Harley Quinn and Batgirl to travel through time to restore the time line, if they can find a way to get along. The girls meet some surprising figures along the way, both super and not.
Past Times is a fun entry into the Super Hero Girls series. The story continues the series trend of highlighting the personalities the characters are known for, but also adds a satisfying amount of superheroing. New readers may not be familiar with some of the lesser-known characters like Bumblebee and Cheetah, but this won't interrupt their enjoyment of the story.
This one gets four enthusiastic stars from me. I look forward to the next installments!
I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley in order to facilitate this review.
these DC Super Hero Girl books are just right for kids: funny, engaging, relatable characters behind the powers. They have problems that kids have as well as the franchise colors they want to see. Many kids will recognize the trouble Harley has in this one. Even though she's young to grasp all of the storyline, my 4 year old daughter loves this book and has had me read it to her at least 5 times so far.
The girls of DC are taking a field trip to the past. Their time traveling bus is taking them to the land and time of dinosaurs. But Harlie can not help but cause trouble as the girls get ripped apart and thrown into alternate timelines. It will take the help of Batgirl to get things set straight. This is a fun comic romp for the younger audience. It very much reminds one of a cartoon, but that makes it all that more appealing to kids.
