This was truly an enjoyable book. It was hard to put it down after I started reading it. The plot and the characters were well thought out and highly believable. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone.
This author continues to write great stories with developed but nuanced characters, which I really enjoy as a reader .
Jordan Carpenter has spent her entire adult life running from her small town roots only to end up smack in the middle of another small town. She wants nothing more than to get back to her life in New York, but first she has to talk firefighter Luke Hollow into starring in her new reality TV show.
It should be easy, but Luke isn't who Jordan imagined him to be. He's not easily swayed by reality or fame. He's actually a decent guy who has no interest in reliving his three failed attempts at getting married on TV. There's more to his story than Jordan expected, and getting to know Luke has Jordan reconsidering her city girl ways.
Once again, Lauren Layne has proved to me why she's one of my favorite contemporary romance writers. Ready to Run was a delight to read. This romantic comedy was a fresh take on the whole bride/wedding genre. It really was a combination of The Bachelor meets The Runaway Bride, but it didn't feel like a copy of those two. Ready to Run was a story of its own. I loved very minute of it!
Jordan and Luke were such fun characters. They had an amazing love-hate relationship going on. Jordan was sassy and head strung. She knew what she wanted and had no problems going for it -- until she got to know Luke. Luke was a total surprise to Jordan. He had the looks she was expecting, but his story wasn't what it seemed. He resented Jordan invading his life, but he couldn't stay away from her. They had some serious sparks and it made this romance exciting.
Ready to Run wouldn't have been quite as entertaining as it was if it wasn't for Luke's amazing small town friends and Jordan's big city sidekick. All of the people in Luke's town had big personalities. They weren't over the top, but perfect to showcase the tight-knit community Luke lived in. Jordan's co-worker and bestie Simon added to the fun with pushing and prodding of her. Everyone was just so much fun!
Obviously, I had a fantastic time reading Ready to Run. It was exactly what I love in a contemporary romance, and it started out the I Do, I Don't series in the best way possible. Bravo, Lauren Layne! I can't wait to read the next book!
I honestly read playboy firefighter in the synopsis and couldn't click that 'request' button fast enough. I had really high expectations for this book, and it definitely didn't disappoint. It's got the hate-to-love trope which I absolutely love. And then the small-town romance which I'll never get over. Falling in love with this book was a no-brainer.
I honestly wasn't a big fan of Jordan's at first. I understand her going to Lucky Hollow to find Luke. I admired her resolve and persistence initially. But her badgering after Luke's pretty obvious rejection to participate in the show was sort of cringe-worthy.
But besides that, I fell in love with Lucky Hollow and its people myself. I love how Jordan just instantly clicked with the ex-brides. I LOVED THAT. Everyone was so incredibly nice and sweet and it reminded me so much of the town I live in.
I loved the country fair part!! When Luke and Jordan volunteered to work at the kissing booth and both were hell-bent on making the other one jealous. It was so much fun to read!!
Simon's probably my favorite character, though. I was always looking forward to his scenes. I'd constantly find myself laughing so damn hard whenever he's around Jordan or just literally talking to her over the phone:
"Yes, I watered that weird plant in the corner."
"It's fake, Simon."
"Shit. Well, okay, I'll try to swing by later, make sure there's not a leaky mess. Your neighbor's cute."
"Straight."
"Damn; figures..."
I LOVE HIM!!!
Then, of course, there's Luke, who I honestly can't ignore any longer. How could I?? He's amazing. UGHH he's so friggin charming and sweet and, well, okay. HE'S A FIREFIGHTER. We can't ignore the elephant in the room, now, can we?
"Nobody was inside?" she asked.
He shook his head. "Nope."
"Not even a pet."
He have a little smile. "You were hoping to see me saving a cat?"
"Have you?" She smiled back. "Saved a cat?"
He winced and looked away and she gasped. "Oh my God, you have, haven't you? You've saved a freaking cat..."
I loved at the end when Luke was dead-serious about him transferring to the NYFD. THAT MADE MY HEART SKIP A BEAT AND LITERALLY GO NUTS.
*Too busy melting into a puddle of goo to actually swoon*
Overall, I loved the plot. Totally refreshing and original! Loved the writing style and the characters. My only problem was the ending, which was amazing but, well, I expected more than a wedding, to be honest! And as I previously said, I had a small problem understanding Jordan at first.
I really enjoy all of Lauren Layne’s books. She has spunky, cool heroines who have witty relationships with hunky guys who turn out to be great boyfriend material. That’s what I enjoy in reading romances.
I wasn’t all that enthralled with the premise of a “Bachelor-” type show based on a guy who has jilted women before but is now going to pick a new girlfriend. Ugh! I don’t like “The Bachelor” and who wants to watch a guy who has already jilted women set up in fake situations to pick another unlucky woman. Jordan has flown out to Montana to try and convince Luke, who has left three brides, to do the show.
Luke turns out to be a hot fireman and there is more to him than the sentence that he left three brides. And there is more to his story. He is absolutely adamant that he doesn’t want to do the show, but Jordan stays around to try to convince him.
Once the book moves away from the reality-show premise and gets more into Jordan learning how much she likes this little town and the friends she’s making there while falling for the hot guy, the more I liked the book. Luke doesn’t want to be attracted to Jordan, but they can’t help what they start to feel for each other.
The whole novel ended up being much better than the premise and thumbnail plot summary of how New York City Jordan and small-town Luke meet and fall in love and find their HEA.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
"The Batchelor meets the Runaway Bride" so true! I didn't think i would like this book because I'm not a massive reality show watcher but I loved this book! The story was based around a reality TV show where the men have jilted their brides at the alter.
It was fun, refreshing and I am looking forward to reading many more of Lauren Layne's books. This was the first book of Lauren's that i have read but I'm now wondering why i hadn't read the rest before!
If you want to read something that has similarities to a RomCom movie then i suggest you read this now!
Thank you Lauren for bringing your writing to the masses!
I have loved every book I've read by Lauren Layne, and this didn't disappoint! Jordan is trying to recruit Luke to be the bachelor for the new show Jilted - aka the Bachelor with a twist. Instead she finds him resistant, and tries to persuade him while facing some demons of hers by being in a small town. Sweet and fun, it's such an easy read and I just want more from this series already! Always a must read for me!
I love Lauren Layne books and read most of them but ‘Ready to Run’ is definitely my favorite. It was a sweet and really fun read that I could not put it down until I was done with it. I will do my best to write this review without spoiling the story for you.
Jordan Carpenter is a TV producer and she is trying to find the male star of the new show called Jilted, which is almost same as Bachelor but for runaway grooms. When she read the local newspaper article, she finds out about Luke Elliott, who left three brides at the altar. On paper Luke seems like a perfect candidate for the show but Jordan is having a hard time to reach Luke. All the e-mails, calls and voice-mails stays unanswered which leds Jordan to travel to Lucky Hollow, Montana with her co-worker Simon Nash. OMG! I adore Simon. He is the coolest, sweetest and funniest guy ever :) But Simon is not the only side character you will like, I assure you that all the side characters are awesome. Our hero Luke is a firefighter, who is hot, loyal, and caring unless you are Jordan Carpenter :) Jordan is beautiful, smart, determined and tenacious. When she finally finds Luke, she is sure that she can convince him to accept her offer. However, Luke wants absolutely nothing to do with the show or the money. So instead of packing and going back to NYC, Ms. Tenacious Carpenter rents a house for a month and starts living in Lucky Hollow. Jordan is not foreign to small town life because she grew up in one. She is from a small town called Keaton in Kansas but she hasn’t been back her hometown over twelve years. Even though it seemed like a good idea to start living in Lucky Hollow at the beginning, it becomes harder for Jordan because of the memories it brings back and adding Luke into the mix makes it harder. Sexual attraction is hard to resist for both of them. Their chemistry is off the charts and they are fighting really hard to resist the attraction. Everyone in Lucky Hollow likes Jordan, which annoys Luke more and more and because of this he becomes ruder to her. Their constant fighting and banter starts wearing them down and with time Jordan starts growing on Luke. At some point he hates himself for being so rude to Jordan and decides to be her friend but he still refuses to talk about why he walked out off three weddings. When she starts learning the truth about the weddings, she realizes Luke is not the man she thought he was. If you want to know what happened before the weddings that made Luke a runaway groom and/or what will happen between Jordan and Luke, you have to read the book :) What I can say is that Luke will be your new favorite book boyfriend for sure :)
‘Ready to Run’ is sweet, funny and emotional book, which you won’t be able to put down. Also the good news is there are more books to the series. Second book ‘Runaway Groom’ will be published on January 30, 2018, which is about Jilted’s star Gage Barrett and the third book ‘Just Run With It’ will be published on March 20, 2018. I cannot wait to get my hands on these :))
Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Yes.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.
Lauren Layne is a go to author when I am looking for a good story with well developed characters. This book was no exception. I loved the characters and plot. Looking forward to more Lauren Layne
I received an advance copy of this via Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for an honest review.
Ever since I started reading Colleen Hoover novels a while ago I sort of started slowly gravitating towards romance novels. Lauren Layne's premise intrigued me from the summary. This was a genuinely fun book. Luke's left 3 women at the alter and Jordan decides she's gotta have him on Jilted (it's like a reverse Bachelor). Naturally, Luke wants no part in whatever Jordan seems to set her sights on (him being on the show for one). But, honestly, the characters left me wanting something more and Jordan didn't sit well with me. Fun premise, good read, unlike able characters
I love a good humourous romance novel and that's what you can expect when you pick up a book by Lauren Layne.
Jordan works in television and hunts down Luke to try to convince him to star in the newest reality tv show "Jilted." It seems that Luke has left three, count 'em, three brides at the alter!
Luke is closed mouthed about the circumstances that led to his "running" from marriage and Jordan finds herself really beginning to like him for it.
Will there be a wedding #4 for Luke and will he run or will he follow through!?
I loved this book and I love the idea of the topic of this book. I would diffidently watch it if it were a true TV show.
Small towns are something I dream of someday living in. When I drive through one, I just sigh. So I can feel Jordan's need of getting back to one. And Luke is the typical small town Hero that I picture when I think of them.
I can not wait for the next book, where we get a taste of the Jilted TV show.
Note: I received a copy of this book via Negalley in exchange for an honest review.
It's not secret that Lauren Layne is one of my favorite authors. I was immediately intrigued by the idea of having a series that is The Bachelor meets Runaway Bride. Since LL was the one doing it, I knew it would be good. And she definitely didn't disappoint.
Ready to Run was the perfect mix of light yet emotional. Jordan was a smart, strong female MC and Luke was a perfect counterpart. I liked that Jordan was career oriented and driven. It was nice to see a female MC that wasn't guy crazy or only focused on getting married. And I loved that even though Luke wasn't the nicest to Jordan, he really was the quintessential nice guy.
The tension between these two was awesome, and the romance was a slow build. My only complaint was at the end in how Jordan and Luke fought before finally getting their HEA. This fell a little flat for me and I was disappointed in what happened and how it was resolved. I felt like Jordan let Luke get away with a bit much. However, this hardly spoiled the story or my enjoyment.
Now I find myself anxiously awaiting the rest of the books in this series.
Ready To Run was what I have come to expect when I pick up a Lauren Layne book. This book was fun, sexy, entertaining and overall swoony.
Ready To Run is the first book in Lauren’s newest Series…..I Do, I Don’t. I can already tell this is going to be a great series. This was definitely a strong start.
This book was engaging and I loved the storyline. I loved the premise of the story is based off the movie The Runaway Bride and the tv show The Bachelor, but Lauren gave it her own special touch to make this story especially unique. I think everyone will fall in love with this book. The characters were great!! They were funny, lovable and down to earth. Lauren made me wish I was living in Lucky Hollow. I thought this story flowed perfectly and that the pace of the storyline worked really well. Lauren kept some secrets hidden throughout the story to keep the readers attention.
What happens when a “City Girl” meets the small town “ Country Boy”??
Well let me tell you…. SPARKS start to fly. Both in the bedroom and out. But I will say this, not everything is what you think. I loved unraveling both Jordan and Luke’s stories. Both were heartbreaking for different reasons. I also loved watching these two characters open themselves up and their hearts up to finding love again.
I truly fell in love with this couple. But I also fell in love with all the secondary characters we met in this story. All of Luke’s friends and family were great supports especially for Jordan.
So if you are looking for that fun, sexy and truly entertaining romance story between two people who are different but so much the same, this is the book to read. If you are already a fan of Lauren Layne’s books, you don’t want to miss this GEM of a story. Definitely one I would recommend to everyone!!!!
Such a cute story! The perfect mix of rugged and sweet. Cute plot and character development.
Ready to Run follows Jordan Carpenter, a producer for a show called Jilted. Jilted is an upcoming show; it’s about men who have left women at the alter looking for love, a.k.a. The Bachelor with a twist. When she finds the perfect candidate in Luke Elliot she decides to drive to Montana to convince him to join the show.
Luke has left 3 women at the alter, and as you could imagine, he wants no part in TV show that would air out all his dirty laundry. He loves his small-town life and his career as a firefighter, he has no interest in being on TV.
This was such a breezy read. However, the characters here were not my favorite. I am so used to falling head over heels for Layne’s characters in her Oxford series and Sex, Love & Stiletto series so I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t in Ready to Run. I don’t know if the story was too short and the two main characters didn’t have time to fully develop or if I just couldn’t connect to them. But something didn’t fully click for me.
I will say I am more excited about the second book, Runaway Groom, than I was for this one. The Bachelor/Bachelorette is my guilty pleasure, okay? Like two seasons ago I decided to watch it because there was nothing else on TV and I got hooked. I hate it but it happened. So I’m excited for Runaway Groom because it will actually take place on the set of the show and follow the contestant of it.
While this wasn’t my favorite Lauren Layne book it was by no means a bad one. This was a very quick and easy read, and it was a nice change of pace from the past few weeks of just reading textbooks for my exams.
Very cute concept of a story and I loved both the main characters and the rest of the sub characters as well. I'm looking forward to reading more of the I Do, I Don't series by Lauren Layne. Ready to Run was well written and scored high on my list of favorite books of the season so far for me. This author is quickly becoming an auto buy author. I wish there was slightly more angst towards the end only because that's my personal favorite category but it was probably the right amount for most readers. I appreciate the opportunity to read the book and thank Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for a honest review. Goodreads review link to follow soon.
Ready to Run is a fun, sweet read! It is one of my favorite books I have read this year.
Jordan travels to Montana to try to recruit firefighter Luke for her new reality show Jilted. She thinks Luke would be perfect for the show because he is known as a runaway groom with 3 failed weddings. Luke is resistant to being on Jilted and annoyed that everyone in town seems to love Jordan.
One of the best parts of this book is the dual narration. I like getting to see the guy's perspective, and Lauren Layne did a great job with Jordan and Luke's personalities/internal thoughts as they deal with their own struggles and attraction to each other.
While I know the next book in the series focuses on the show Jilted, I am would love to see more stories focused on the town of Lucky Hollow. Luke's friends and family added a lot of fun and hilarious moments.
Definitely recommend Ready to Run if you are looking for a book with humor and romance!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
i love every book written by this amazing author. This story did not disappoint. just the right amount of romance and wit.
