I'm hooked on this "new-to-me" author! Rachel Dylan packs a punch in the first book in the Atlanta Justice series where Kate Sullivan is lead council against a major pharmaceutical company. Kate's opposing council, Ethan, is one of her closest friends from law school. Can their friendship survive this difficult case full of legal and ethical complexities?

Landon hasn't been home from the war too terribly long but he's really trying to get his life together. He loves working as a private investigator and when he's contacted by Kate Sullivan to provide security for a high level court case, he starts to feel even more human. Landon is looking forward to putting his past behind him and this court case will definitely keep him busy.

This book is a really quick, interesting read. This book is very much a work of fiction but covers a lot of cases heard in courts today. When Mason Pharmaceutical Company creates a drug, Celix, that's known to cause tumors and has been blamed for the deaths of many people, there are many questions that arise. The politics behind the moves of MPC are very common in today's society as well. CEO's trying to line their pockets for the sake of another dollar without thinking or caring about the adverse effects. Even worse, hiding the facts of the case!! It's rare to find a work of Christian Fiction in the area of a medical or legal thriller so this was exciting to find!! I'm looking forward to more books in this series!

Deadly Proof is the first book I’ve read by Rachel Dylan, and I’m already looking forward to the sequel (this is the first of the Atlanta Justice series, which means there will definitely be a sequel). I love legal thrillers, and this was no exception. She’s an experience litigator herself, and that knowledge and authenticity definitely came through in Deadly Proof.

Kate Sullivan is one of many attorneys working on a class action lawsuit against Mason Pharmaceutical, who are accused of producing a migraine drug that causes brain tumours. She suspects something is afoot when a scared MPC employee contacts her, telling her the case is bigger and she has to dig deeper. She hires private investigator Landon James to investigate, and he soon finds things which make him suspicious.

The case is complicated by the number of firms involved … and by the fact the lead counsel for Mason Pharmaceuticals is Ethan Black, Kate’s longterm friend. Kate is appointed to lead the case, including the assessing of thousands of pages of evidence. It soon becomes apparent that the case isn’t going to progress smoothly … especially when “accidents” start happening.

Deadly Proof is a fast-paced legal thriller that ticks all the boxes—great characters, solid plot, great suspense, plenty of legal wrangling, and even a bit of romance … Recommended for fans of legal thrillers from authors like John Grisham and Cara Putman.

Two friends are on opposing sides of the case, can they still be friends once the case is decided?

Kate was a strong lead character, dedicated to her work and bringing justice for her clients no matter what happens. She won’t be scared off by the events happening to and around her. She hires PI Landon to look into something for her but his job ends up becoming more of a security detail for her after she is threatened multiple times.

Story does include a bunch of the legal footwork that is necessary to bring a case to trial. It is stressed to associates that even though this may be mundane work it is a very important part of the process. I liked that it showed this rather than glossing over it and making the process seem easy. There was quite a bit of legal jargon that did go over my head at times, but I understood the basics and knew which side I wanted to win. Getting there kept me on my toes never knowing what was going to happen next and just when I thought I knew who the mastermind was a twist was thrown in.

I always enjoy getting multiple perspectives throughout a book and this was no exception. Getting both sides of the case allowed me to feel more invested in the story and characters. I liked Ethan even when I didn’t agree with some decisions he was making. But Kate and Nicole were probably my favourites, they might be on different teams, but they had the same morals and guts to do what needed to be done.

Mixed throughout were moments between Kate & Landon discussing their faith and time spent with Kate’s best friends. I loved the interaction between Kate & Landon, and that she was able to help him as much as he helped her, the romantic moments between them also put a smile on my face. I felt these two balanced each other out nicely.

This is the first book in the series and there were quite a few characters that I would be interested in getting to know more in future books. I will be on the lookout for book two.

I have to say that I am impressed with Rachel Dylan’s novel, Deadly Proof. I’m constantly looking for new authors that fall in the suspense and mystery genres that I love and while, typically, legal thrillers don’t always appeal to me, Dylan had such a well-written book that I actually enjoyed the legal aspects of it.

First of all, Deadly Proof feels like a relevant book with all the talk about medical costs and pharmaceutical businesses in politics today. This book takes a “what if” around that conversation and creates a plot with some sketchy business practices and powerful individuals willing to do anything to not get caught.

I truly did enjoy the courtroom drama of the book. Because one of the main characters is not a lawyer, things were explained without sounding overly teach-y. But that also meant I could keep up. I did find myself getting bored with the book in a few places and some of the more “action” scenes felt a bit rushed at times, but overall, I really did like this book and I plan to continue reading this series.

When a pharmaceutical company is at the middle of a major lawsuit, Kate Sullivan knows she has her work cut out for her in order to prove they are covering up the dangers of their new drug. Kate will have to do all she can to get justice for her client and keep herself from harm as the company comes after her.

When writing a legal thriller, it is the author’s job to find a fine balance between telling the legal aspects of the case without losing the reader in terminology many will have a hard time understanding while keeping the tension tight. Rachel Dylan has done a great job finding the balance between the tension of the case without going too deep into the legal aspect. I enjoyed the dynamic between the characters, especially that between Kate and Bonnie. The tension between the two of them helped the story immensely. There was a romance aspect to the story, but I was happy to see it wasn’t pushed as a main plot point. Of course Kate and Landon are going to find an attraction to each other with what they are going through, it’s inevitable. Dylan did a nice job of keeping that thought in the background until just the right moment for the romance to develop further and be a natural flow of events. I felt that toward the ending the tension could have been played out a little longer and harder when Kate was in such a tough spot, but that is also personal preference.

It is nice to see a broader selection in the Christian market for readers. Most people may not realize you can get a great legal thriller with good Christian writing that isn’t preachy and still get a really great story. It is hard to know who to read and who might just be a waste of time. Of the almost 100 books I have read this year, I must say that Deadly Proof is not a waste of time and readers will find it an enjoyable work of fiction. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read and I recommend it to readers that are looking for a tight, tension filled story that will keep them guessing until the very end who to trust.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

If you like legal thrillers then this book is definitely for you. It is the first book in the series and features a strong female character.

A good story draws the reader in. From the outset you want to know more about the characters and the situations they find themselves in.

From that perspective, Rachel Dylan has been successful with her latest novel, Deadly Proof. I wanted to know more about lawyer Kate Sullivan and her battle with a big pharmaceutical company. I could even ignore that there was a strong undercurrent of romance to this book (you may remember I have sworn off romances for a while).

I will admit though that I am a picky reader. I understand that in fiction there is a necessary (at times) suspension of disbelief required. Given that, I laid aside my thoughts that the shootings in this novel were improbable at best. The first one is necessary for the plot, though I didn’t buy the rationale for the second one at all. 9780764219801

Deadly Proof is an interesting story, a not un-typical courtroom drama. I might quibble with some of the procedures, but Rachel Dylan is a lawyer and I am not, so I will allow her to take what I saw as procedural liberties. Big trials take years, the whole thing seemed a little rushed to me, but a shortened time span is probably necessary for the action.

The story made for great bedtime reading. As my day winds down, I’m looking for fiction that will keep me entertained, and Deadly Proof certainly was that. I do regret though that whomever edited this novel didn’t push the author to deliver a little more. It is an enjoyable read, but I noticed a couple of flaws that shouldn’t have been there. That is why authors have editors – the editor is supposed to be able to bring an objective viewpoint and see what needs to be done to make a good story great.

Where is mention of the Food and Drug Administration, the government body that licenses drugs in the US? How can you have a novel about drug testing that doesn’t mention the FDA? If you are suing a company, alleging that it allowed a harmful drug to be marketed, wouldn’t there be at least some mention of the approval process? Maybe my viewpoint has been influenced by Arthur Hailey’s Strong Medicine and other similar novels I read in my youth.

I also felt that there was too much “tell” and not enough “show” in the story. Given the strong plot, the novel could easily have had another 50 or 100 pages. I felt too often we were being told things we should have discovered over time, just to get the points out there. That led to some conversations between Kate and her private investigator/security guard that I feel went far beyond the information that a lawyer would normally convey to a non-litigator. I won’t comment on the romance in the novel – except to say it wasn’t necessary to the plot and as a result probably weakened the book. (Though maybe not to female readers, or is that a stereotype I shouldn’t bring up?)

The question when I read a book by an author new to me is: does this book encourage me to read other works by this writer? Despite its flaws, Deadly Proof does that.

Deadly Proof is the first book in Rachel Dylan's new series, Atlanta Justice. The book follows lawyer Kate Sullivan and PI Landon James as they look for evidence that will prove the corruptness of a certain pharmaceutical company. Normally legal thrillers are not my cup of tea, but Rachel Dylan has a way of writing this genre that keeps my interest and I've loved many of her stories.

The characters were wonderful. Both Kate and Landon were likeable and I found the romance story sweet. I hope they are in the next book in the series, Lone Witness, because I want to see more of what happens in their lives. ;)

All in all, Deadly Proof was a great read with a lot of suspense. It was written very well and I had no issues following the story. I definitely recommend Deadly Proof!

I did enjoy the book. It kept a great balance between personal relationships without a bunch of theology. Great read with good tension..

This book! Seriously had me sitting on the edge of my couch and then on the floor as I slid down. I was lured by the plot to read this book but I was begging for more when I finished because it was so good.

Rachel Dylan created a law and order style suspense novel that had you twisting and turning with each new chapter. Kate was beyond good. As a lead female character she had grit, strength and yet a softness that molded her into a lovable character. I thought the level of passion for her case was a point that made her real to me, and helped build this story to be worthy of five or more stars.

Readers that want to read a book worth staying up late to finish and will keep them begging for more will be flocking to this book. Law and order needs a good balance of integrity and faith that is shown in this book.

Brief Summary: Kate Sullivan is the lead counsel on a big case versus a pharmaceutical company. When key witnesses die or disappear, Kate realizes this is a high stakes case and hires a private investigator to assist her. A romance develops between the two, as the investigator, Landon, goes to great lengths to keep her safe.

Highlights: This was a quickly engaging and easy book to read. I was quickly engrossed and finished in two days during a busy trip. I liked the aspects of the legal case preparation. Kate Sullivan was an admirable protagonist. I was not as interested in the Christian aspects of the novel, though it was not a major focus. Ultimately, the ending was predictable. Though the novel held my interest, it didn’t really involve any major provocative issues that will stay with me.

Explanation of Rating 3/5: It definitely engrossed me but didn’t really make me think differently and I doubt it will stay with me. I would definitely consider reading future books in this series.

Psychology Factors: Military and veterans issues play a small role. I do believe the author portrayed them accurately.

Over the past two years, I have become a really big fan of the Suspense genre. This book goes to the top of my favorites list for this genre. Although this is the first time I have read a book by this author, I can assure you it will not be the last. This book is a definite page-turner and has all the elements that will keep you hooked to the end as you watch the fight between David and Goliath. A word of warning: you will get annoyed by interruptions while you are reading it. Great job, Rachel

This is the first in a new legal thriller series. The plot was interesting and definitely took an unexpected twist just when the reader had it all figured out. The characters were developed enough to make them interesting though the romantic interest was a bit contrived and predictable.
I have never read "christian fiction" and did not read the description carefully enough before I requested the book. Though I was personally put off by the spiritual struggles, they weren't a
major part and I felt they were thrown in to attract that group of readers. A nice light read if this
is your cup of tea.

Deadly Proof was my first time reading anything by Rachel Dylan and... wow!... was it good or what? When I first heard about it, I was very interested in reading it. It did not disappoint! I was hooked from the first chapter and never wanted to put it down. The action and suspense continually progressed. There were lots of twist, turns, and shocking surprises. It definitely kept me guessing.

Kate's a super strong and powerful attorney who's fighting for the underdog, the innocent victims. It's not about the money for her, she genuinely wants to help people. She's very relatable and easy to like. Landon's protective and extremely thorough with his job. He's got some demons, but is actively working to become a better person.

It was very interesting to get an inside look at corporate law and learn some of the ins and outs. Dylan did a great job at explaining all the legal terminology without it being clunky or sounding out of place. I really enjoyed getting to see both sides of the case. While it was mostly from Kate's side, there was also a peek at the opposing counsel.

I haven't read many legal thrillers, but after absolutely loving this one, I can't wait to check more out. And I'm definitely going to check out Dylan's other books. I can't recommend this book enough and I can't wait for the next one!

This is the third book I've read by Rachel Dylan and I thoroughly enjoy the suspenseful, edge of your seat ride that she creates. This is the first book in her Atlanta Justice series and it is not one to be missed. Her characters are real and engaging. The book is based on a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company which is relevant to our society today.
Using her legal skills Ms. Dylan has you nearly figure out what is going on and then schools you on the truth of bait and switch. I didn't read this in one sitting but easily could have. You won't want to miss this legal thrill ride! Highly recommended!!

Deadly Proof is a heart racing, heart pounding out of your chest - don't be alone if you read this ;) This is immensely enjoyable - you find yourself just profoundly engrossed in this story - you are involved in the characters and cant get over how deeply you are invested in what happens to them - you may even find yourself yelling out loud- no - don't do that - or you are such a jerk - or he is so sweet don't blow it. you can find your self frustrated, happy, angry, oh so many more emotions but the twists and turns just blows all of them out of the water because as soon as you start to feel one emotion one more pops up instead - for real. There is Kate an attorney - going after the bad pharmaceutical company and there is the bad pharmaceutical company going after Kate if you know what I mean - now there is a PI who us to be an Army Ranger named Landan James - how could you not fall for someone with the name Landon? Huh? anyways - there is something going on there but he is there for investigating and now for protection of Kate to keep her alive - so tell me - who is the one trying to knock her off? will he be able to keep her safe? Will Kate and Landon fall for each other or will it be too late for them? Will kate ever make it to court to win the case against the pharmaceutical company? This is so much fun to read - thank you miss Dylan I am honored to have read this book and I hope I get the honor to read the next one.

Kate became a plaintiff’s lawyer because she wants to help others in need but she soon finds that she can’t help or protect herself. She hires Landon and his company to help with some investigation work but her need for them continues to grow as her troubles mount. It was interesting to see how they interacted but I was a little disappointed that they didn’t deal much with computer forensics after that was highlighted as a skill set of the firm.

I was not, however, disappointed with the main story line. It was fascinating getting to look inside both camps’ war rooms. I learned more about the legal process and hope I never have to be a part of it. 🙂 I was not surprised to learn that the author was a litigator as the trial/case prep felt so authentic.

I loved the action, the suspense and the twists. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes legal thrillers.

I received an advance electronic copy of the book from Netgalley.

Other reviewers have provided synopses so I won't repeat their efforts here.

Overall, I enjoyed the plot, but I thought the budding romance budded far too quickly, especially between a devout believer and a prospective partner who had basically lost his faith. For me, this veers a little too close to unequal yoking. Also, a young lawyer working on the case of a lifetime hardly has time to get romantically involved with anyone.

I also felt like the protagonist never missed an opportunity to lob a "Christianese" platitude at a friend who might have been better served by a simple "Yeah, I hear you. Life can be tough." Especially when that friend has already been preached the gospel, and now it's a waiting game to see whether the seeds planted will take root or not. In my experience, those seeds are best watered with the gentle rain of observed example, not the "if you would just let God in, everything would be all right" hammering hailstorm.

This is a fairly fast paced, well written, suspenseful legal thriller with a light touch of romance. The legal terms are well explained for those who aren't familiar with legalese and it was interesting that we got to read about both sides of the case. I think it added to the drama of the whole story line.

I liked how Kate had such a strong work ethic along with a compassionate heart for the people she is trying to get justice for. It is encouraging that in spite of her personal issues she keeps her faith and isn't afraid to share it. When the suspense and danger increase, former Army Ranger turned private investigator Landon James is the perfect hero to provide security and romance for Kate. In spite of his own personal struggles, he is a strong support for Kate.

Although this book is well written, I found the wording a little over-descriptive at times and I think personally, I just wasn't all that interested in the lawyer/legal process aspect of this book. But that's just my personal feelings. I do think it was well written and will be enjoyed by many who enjoy legal drama/thrillers.

Oh. My. Goodness. This book was fantastic. First of all, the writing. Rachel Dylan is a gifted author, not doubt about that. Not only does she tell a wonderful story, but she shares her knowledge of the legal field in a way that we can all understand. Her depth of knowledge is amazing, and it just brings this added layer of appeal to the book. There were scenes that could have been totally confusing, but Ms. Dylan found a wonderful way to bring the talk to our level and understanding. I felt as if perhaps I was learning something about the legal field.

Then there’s the storyline itself. So interesting, full of suspense, a little romance, and the issue of right versus wrong. A few of these characters really had to dig deep and make some ethical choices. But isn’t that what we are faced with everyday? Much like the characters, you either choose good or bad. But on top of this was a message of God’s grace and forgiveness. Rachel Dylan is able to spread the gospel in such a way that is very inviting. I believe readers will thoroughly enjoy this, and maybe even come a little closer to the Lord because of it. Not one time did I feel the context of the gospel was out of place. It was all natural dialogue, and quite frankly the characters acted naturally in their responses as well. The truth is, we’re not all ready at the same time. We all move at our own pace when it comes to serving the Lord and returning to Him. This story was beautiful proof of that.

Dare I say there is a wonderful swoon worthy character? Landon James…..yes I could see him in future installments. I hope. He’s not only manly and rugged, he is loyal and trustworthy, and is quick to admit he is not perfect. Do I see a book boyfriend hashtag coming in the near future? Possibly. At any rate, he was for sure my favorite character. He had a lot of issues to sort out, but underneath all that was this really caring and generous man. I loved seeing his growth throughout the story.

This book will have you guessing. It will have you looking over your shoulder. It will certainly keep you turning the pages until you get to the very end, breath a sigh of relief that it’s over, and then cry because the characters have to go away for awhile. But…good news. There is a book two! Woohoo. I can’t wait 🙂

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
