We are not fighting for victory. We are fighting from victory.
This however, is the mystery of the gospel. The way up is the way down. The way to gain righteousness is to confess your unrighteousness. The way to grow strong is to admit your weakness. The way to become wise is to confess your foolishness. God only fills empty hands, and so only when you are in yourself can you be strong in him. Those who overcome the world are not strong themselves but strong in their confidence in God.
The struggle is real when our desires do not match up with God's kingdom. King in ten chapters walks the reader in identifying your weakness, the lies you believe and how to replace the lies with the truth.
Getting to Know the Real God-and trusting him with our wounds.
Love and Loneliness - choosing who has authority in our emotional lives
Reaching Out to God - He is our hope when all hope seems lost
Understanding the Purpose of Suffering - God uses our pain to transform us and others.
Love and Intimacy-Understanding God's design for human sexuality
Fighting Temptation with Faith - and knowing your victory is in Christ
The Pursuit of Happiness - Finding safety, security and satisfaction not in worldly things but in God
Forgive Us Our trespasses- Receiving God's forgiveness so that we may forgive others
Knocking on the Door to Change - and Trusting God will answer.
Live and Love Again- Allowing the Truth to set you free.
In a conversational tone, King is exposes the lie that keeps a soul in bondage. My favorite is the chapter on Love and Intimacy. He shares when he was asked to talk on sexuality at a high school. A young woman shouted that she could do what ever she wanted with her body and did not see anything wrong with having sex with whomever she pleased. King then told her that in 20 years, he would like to know if she would feel the same way. Chances are he told her that she would feel differently. Chances are he would not have the opportunity to speak with her again in twenty years, but God is not a God of chance. He did speak with her and she regrets her attitude.
With most struggles, we want instant gratification, our rights honored and we do not see the whole picture. Seeing the whole picture of the redemption the kingdom brings, keeps our eyes on the prize and not on ourselves.
A Special Thank You to Baker Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I received a copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
An average Christian book. Not a lot of new information.
What I liked best about the book
Instead of discussion questions at the end of the chapter, “Next Steps”. This section gave deeper insight and a recap of the chapter. Discussion questions and helpful activities. The “Next Steps” section really helped you personalize the lesson. It is great for group or personal study.
Chapter 9 people...Chapter 9.
totally life changing for me.
we have all read books like this, but this one is different...it is real and hits you in your real world.
highly recommend...highly!

I am reviewing a copy of Overcome through Baker Books and Netgalley:
This is not a typical book about Overcoming instead it is a book about how you can find victory over life's challenges by letting Jesus overcome them through you.
The author goes on to remind us that a lie will isolate us, and hurt us.
We often believe the lie that God is mad at us, but infact he loves us more than words can express.
The questions and excercises at the end of the chapter allow for either group or personal study.
We often find ourselves believe the lie that we are unloved and alone when in reality God loves you the way you are, and that he would rather die than be without you. The author points out of that faith fights fear.
The author points out too that our pain has the power to transform us.
I give Overcome five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
