Since so little is known about Alexander Gardner a lot of this book is conjecture. The author does a good job with the background history and using what is known about Alexander but there is also a lot of filler. I enjoyed reading the book and the subject matter but I did find slow going. There is not a lot written about Gardner so this book does fill that gap but more research needs to be done. Anyone with an interest in the area and early exploration will enjoy this book.
