"The Rogue Agent" eBook was published in 2017 and was written by Daniel Judson (http://danieljudsonbooks.com/). Mr. Judson has published a dozen novels. This is the second book in his "The Agent" series.
I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence. The story is set in the contemporary US. The primary character is former covert ops agent Tom Sexton.
Sexton thinks he has been hiding and invisible to his former boss. He finds that is far from the truth. He is drawn back into his past when he is approached by his former boss to help protect a young girl.
This quickly leads Sexton and his girlfriend into one dangerous situation after another. He also learns much about his family that had been kept hidden from him up to now.
I really enjoyed the 7 hours I spent reading this 354 page fiction thriller. I liked the characters that were developed for the novel as well as the plot. The cover art is OK. I give this novel a 4.5 (rounded up to a 5) out of 5.

The Rogue Agent is an action-packed spy thriller taking place in the exotic lands of the northeast. At its best, this novel us chock full of gun battles, breached safe houses, grenades, and hand to hand combat. It is filled with undercover operatives, trained assasins, and layers of secrets.
The book starts off slow, but once the reader is in the second chapter they can't put it down. Great story, I didn't want the story to end. Tom's sister and mom were killed while his dad was away on a conference (so he was told) Tom learns years later that they were killed while the Benefactor attempted to kill his dad (an ex-military man who would go out on missions undercover).. Tom and his girlfriend have been hidding in plain sight for two years, and have tried to keep a low profile. The Benefactor (someone who has put a contract on Tom and his girlfriend) is the same man who had his dad killed twenty years ago, No one knows who the Benefact is, or why he wants to kill Tom. i don't want to give th plot away.
The Rogue Agent by Daniel Judson is the story of Tom Sexton. Tom has been living a quiet life in Vermont, running a small restaurant with his girlfriend Stella. Tom is haunted by living close to his childhood home and by his past. Tom’s past returns and he begins protecting a young girl. But nothing is as easy as it seems. This book was full of action and told from various perspectives. I found it difficult to read this book on its own, since I had not yet read the first book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Action action action action. No plot.
I received a review copy of "The Rogue Agent: The Agent Series, Book 2" by Daniel Judson (Thomas and Mercer) through NetGalley.com.
I got this book from NetGalley a few days ago and after reading the first 8 chapters I was so drawn into the story, I stopped, went to Amazon and bought the first book, The Temporary Agent so I could learn Tom and Cahill's backstory. This series ( I am certainly hoping Judson doesn't leave us hanging too long) is everything I love in an action/thriller book - a damaged hero, a little romance, a lot of patriot, a fellow crusader and a lot of bad ass. In this case the men have nothing over the women.
Tom and Stella pick up where they left off in the last book, in a small town just trying to live a peaceful life together. When duty calls Tom goes running but this time Stella is not staying behind. I also love that Stella is a forty something looker who trains her body daily to prepare for the "what if" should it ever come.
Once again the pace, dialogue, characters are all well done - a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Thriller
THE ROGUE AGENT is not your typical thriller by any means. One would not expect it to be. Author Daniel Judson over the course of the past decade or so has demonstrated that he can write just about anything, and do it very, very well, thank you. Judson turned his hand to a bit of a hybrid espionage-adventure novel in THE TEMPORARY AGENT less than a year ago, and this fine sequel (which I am guessing is actually the second in a series) is even better.
The “agent” of both titles, if you will, is a gentleman named Tom Sexton. Orphaned before he was out of teens, Sexton enlisted in the Army but was tapped by one of a succession of military mentors to join a US Navy Seabee special ops team, where he was a standout performer, taking medals and wounds with equal valor. Sexton left the service and wandered for a bit before meeting Stella, the love of his life. The problem, however, is that Sexton keeps being drawn, however reluctantly, back into his military life. This, indeed, was the thrust of THE TEMPORARY AGENT. THE ROGUE AGENT opens some eighteen months later. Stella and Sexton have built a life together, living under assumed names and running a small but popular diner with limited hours in a small town in Vermont not far at all from where Sexton grew up and the lives of his family members so tragically ended. Events slowly begin to overtake Sexton, however, when he is contacted out of the blue by his former superiors and more or less blackmailed into another mission. A young woman has been targeted by the agents of an infamous mercenary known as The Algerian, who in turn works for an even more nefarious and mysterious character known as The Benefactor. Given that Sexton and Stella are living quietly and anonymously, with their location known only to a handful of people, Sexton’s once and future military handlers feel that the targeted woman is better housed with Sexton than at one of the safe houses they maintain. This would seem to be true. THE ROGUE AGENT serves as a how-to guide if you really, really want to turn your residence into a seemingly impenetrable space, loaded with plenty of adult firepower toys that will enable one to not only take fire but also return it. That’s how it seems, anyway. A late night attack, however, demonstrates that the suspected but unthinkable is true: there is a traitor in their midst, and it is someone who is otherwise completely trustable. Judson does a terrific job of keeping the reader guessing who the snake might be, right up the near the end, where he drops another revelation for the next book in the series just as he is resolving the ones he raised in this one.
THE ROGUE AGENT is very fast reading. The pages just fly by. This is especially remarkable because Judson isn’t afraid to give the reader background on the primary characters. All of it, however, is extremely interesting, even the elements which in the hands of a lesser author would be boring minutiae. Sexton is not a world-beater, either. While part and parcel of many espionage novels involve changing locales on the global map with the frequency of underwear changes (nothing wrong with that) (the changing locales, I mean) most of THE ROGUE AGENT is played out in rural Vermont and urban New York. More is almost certainly coming, so get on board the Agent train now. Recommended.

It would appear that I am not to be a fan of the Agent series. The first one, The Temporary Agent, I found confusing and difficult to read. Nothing is changed in The Rogue Agent. If anything, I feel more confused than I did in the first one. I have no idea what it is about. I went back to the summary of the novel, where I learned that it is about a guy named Sexton. 20% of the novel having passed my eyes, I don't think the name Sexton was once mentioned. It shouldn't take that long to get into the heart of the matter.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.
Tom Sexton is living very 'low-key' with his girl friend, Stella. They have a cafe and though they are prepared for anything that could happen but hoping that life will be quiet. Then he is called to help with one thing. Keep a teen girl safe. Sounds easy but then the bad guys come for the girl and the battle begins. There are so many things going on that Tom & Stella done't know about and nobody has told them. One is the cook they hired and became friends with is not who she seems. Some heated battles and lots of fire power later Tom is finally finding out about the past. Once the action starts it doesn't let up.
Excellent - a tractor beam of intensity drags you into the conspiracy so smoothly you cannot get off the Circle Line
It's a very easy read, easily a 3.5 A complex plot, some fairly hard-core espionage/action content, and reasonably interesting characters makes it a very fast-paced, thrill-a-minute book.
Just wonderful! The second novel in this series is just as good as the first. The story of a reluctant agent who would rather stay home in his quiet life, but is compelled to re-enter his old life to help his friends, and is plunged back into a life of deceit and betrayal.
I've been a huge fan of the author for years now, and with this latest release, he just continues to be one of the best and most consistent thriller writers living today. This is the second installment in the AGENT series,, and it's another great example of superb storytelling.
Great characters, great plot and storyline, I hope he continues with this series! It's as good as anything in the field today!
