Fury of Surrender by Corrine Callahan is book 6 in the Dragonfury series and for me is a 4 star read.
Forge is a dragon warrior who has a price on his head by dragonkind elite he knows unlocking his memories of his family's deaths will help clear his name but after trying the dangerous way and getting nowhere his best friend Mac suggests a hypnotherapist he knows in the human world. Forge is willing to try but he doesn't expect the attraction he feels towards Hope.
Hope is a hypnotherapist who sometimes works along side the SPD this is how she knows Mac so when he asks for her help she agreed knowing he's hiding more than he's telling her. Hope has a bit of a traumatic past which she's struggling to deal with.
This story was a bit slow to start with but once you get into it it really grips onto your imagination. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book through Netgalley.
What an awesome Dragon shifter series! I have to thank my Goodreads friend Barbara for pointing this author out to me. I requested this ARC from NetGalley because she recommended this series to me awhile back.
I loved this unique take on dragon shifters. I have not read previous books in the series, so there are a few questions that I still need answered, but it didn't take away any enjoyment of the series away. In fact it just has my wanting to start with book one and read them all.
I highly recommend this for PNR lovers. It was well written, a unique approach to a saturated subject and will draw in the protective Hero fans. Loved it!
FURY OF SURRENDER by Coreene Callahan is the 6th book in the Dragonfury series and I was so lucky to preview it on NetGalley. Forge and Hope both have family loss and trauma in their past...can she help him remember what happened to his family? What is going on with Mac?... What is Ivar up to now...can a leopard change it's spots? And lets not forget Rodin his son and the Archguard what trouble will they cause? I and looking forward to the next book in the series.... Will Nian be the next to find a mate? I really enjoyed this book and hope you will too.
Forge is tormented by suppressed memories of the murders of his entire family. Driven to unlock who did it, the Nightfury dragons enlist Hope, a hypnotherapist to break through the wall. When Forge lays eyes on her, he knows she is his mate. Through the razorbacks treachery, lies of the dragon council leader, and the virus that is killing human females, the dragons wage war. Good storyline, worldbuilding, strong women protagonists. Strong set up for the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.
You can read this book as a stand-alone, but probable will enjoy it more if you know the previous books of this series. There`re different story lines which will connect through the novels of this series.
Forge, a former Razorback, is now part of Bastians Nightfury warriors. 50 years ago his entire family died through an brutal attack. Still suffering under nightmares every night, Forge can´t remember the details of this night nor can´t he remember the attackers.
The Archguard high councel and Rodin, leader of the travesty, had tried to convicted him of murder. Without Forge ever stepping into a courtroom or touching the male he´d been accused of killing. There is a bounty on his head with the threat of an killing order by Dragonkind elite....for lies.
Forge assumes that it has something to do with his past and the he`s still suffering. Something Rodin must be involved with. And since Rodin want to eliminate not only him but the entire Nightfury warriors... time is running out.
After a failed mind regression session, in which Bastian and Mac tried to retrieve the long lost memory, Forge nearly died. No longer an option to retrieve the memory, they decided to bring a human hypnotherapist into the secret lair.
Hope believes she is part of an covert military outfit, authorized by the government, to help an traumatized soldier.
Forge, being already under pressure to remember the past, didn`t react well at their first meeting. Being a high energy female, Hopes energy hit him like a freight train. His dragon half reacted so strong to her on first sight, that he is instantly torn between violence (like beating the shit out of Mac - who brought her in) and lust.
As a professional therapist Hope is conflicted to get involved with Forge, although she couldn`t deny either the instant attraction.
In the end she helped him remember in a way neither both of them would´ve guessed.
Hope and Forges bonding was fast, beautiful and very intense. I loved how they helped each other to overcome their fears and traumata.
Beside the highly emotional main part of this novel there was also a very interesting and also emotional side story about Mac and his painful tribal tattoo. It`ll be interesting to see how he´s coping with his "new friend".
Even Ivar had his emotional moments in this book. He´s struggling to find the antivirus to prevent further deaths of human women; caused through his highly resistant virus. He also has to decide if he`ll embrace the changes taking hold inside of him or cling to his old way of being when it comes to Sasha.
I really loved this book. So much happened in it and all this emotional turmoil...
My favorite in the series, hands down! I loved the other books, don't get me wrong, but this one was different. I felt a more emotional connection to the characters and there was a tension to the story that kept me engaged. I didn't set this one down.....I devoured it in one great big gulp. Callahan is a wonderful storyteller but with this book I could visualize the characters and action in a much clearer way than before. This one is going to be hard to beat.
4.5 stars
It's been awhile since we have seen a new book in this series. It didn't take me long to get sucked back in to the characters and the conflict. In fact, I was so engrossed, before I knew it the book was over! I really wanted more!
Forge has been an interesting character all along. I was happy to learn more about him. Hope seems to be the perfect match. She is also friends with Mac so there is an added layer of trust built in. Once again, the author brings us non-stop action. Fights and sass and bad guys and intrigue. What I really wanted more of....was Forge and Hope. They kind of fall together as he realizes she is his special mate. But I wanted to see them as a couple more. How did they get to know each other beyond the physical? How does Forge envision his son fitting into their relationship?
I left with more questions than answers about the couple. However, the action and story line moved forward at a brisk pace. I can't imagine how this turmoil is all going to end (with the Fury guys on top, I'm sure ;) ). It is going to be one heck of a ride getting there.
You will want to read this series in order as the story line progresses through all the books. Great addition to the series. Can't wait for the next title!
Forge trying to get back memories of his past. When Hope come to help , everything gets complicated. They have to race against time to help Mac. An amazing series.
a well-written paranormal romance. A good solid plot. first I've read by Ms. Callahan and will be hunting for the other books in the series.
A good story overall, and did like Hope and Forge together. I have read the others in the series, although it has been awhile, and the different storylines crossing were a bit overwhelming. If someone comes in cold without knowing the series they may be more confused. Other than that, if you do know the series, you will enjoy this one. Highly recommend this book, author and series.
I have been waiting (impatiently!) for Forge's story since we met him; he's built, dark, and broody with a tortured past and a sexy accent... I mean, whoa. That checks ALL the boxes. He's got a little dominant edge to him, adding to the sexiness as well as integrity and loyalty - he's my current crush.
However - and I'm only mentioning this because it literally JUMPED out at me - he has a son. That's sort of a major influence on a persons identity. And we largely never hear of him interacting with GM at all. One woman or another always has him off someplace doing baby stuff... but Forge has one scene interacting with his own kid, and that's as a plot progressor to interrupt nookie. I feel like the omission gives the reader the wrong impression about Forge. Further to that, very little is explained about Caroline. If you were to have a baby with someone, that might bear mentioning. Ostensibly, he had feelings for her (we accept that they were not "mate"-y feelings, but still - we don't want him to be the callous, fuck 'em and chuck 'em, Deadbeat Dad type) and its sort of unclear whether or not he knew she was going to die? He said he made the mistake of impregnating her before realizing his dragon was not onboard... so logically...? See what I mean? By simply not mentioning GM and Caroline, we run the risk of assuming poorly of him. Also, as his and Hope's relationship progresses swiftly into love, this seems like a conversation that would come up.
Hope was a great character, and especially great for him. Smart, sassy, giving and a little wounded herself - they complimented each other well and she fit in with the ladies at Black Diamond spectacularly.
So, I would have liked to see more depth in Forge's story - and maybe that's just selfish because I love him - but I think he could do with a little more expansion so that theres no doubt what a fab character he is.
This book was worth waiting for, and did exceed my ridiculously high expectations. I'm now back in position on the edge of my seat to see who's story is next, and who the heck is the woman in the cabin?
