I ditto what Lee Child's comment about Killer Choice. “Terrific…full of shocks and twists you won’t see coming--unputdownable and highly recommended!”—Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author
The Foster’s life is finally heading in the right direction. After years of trying, Beth, is now pregnant. Gary and brother Rod recently opened a outdoor clothing business and they are getting on their feet. Then Gary receives a phone call.
After collapsing suddenly, Beth has been rushed to the hospital. Tests reveal a devastating diagnosis: an inoperable brain tumor. Routine chemo and radiation don't work and the tumor is rapidly growing. They are told of an experimental treatment that would require them to move to Germany. The cost is a whopping $200,000.00. The Foster's have little assets. Time is running out for Beth and the baby.
Gary gets another life changing phone call. A strange man who calls himself Shamrock, approaches Gary and offers all the money he needs for Bets's treatment, on one condition: that he kill someone, no questions asked. End the life of what he says is an evil man to save the life of a good woman and her unborn child. .
Life changing choices forces Gary to confront the darkest reaches of his soul and betray those closest to him. As the violence escalates, your blood WILL run cold. You question your own morality concerning how far you would be willing to go to save the life of one you love.
The plot put me in the mind of a book by Scott Smith, A Simple Plan. It's hard to cover up illegal and immoral actions even when you think you have everything under control. One lie/wrong choice just leads to another lie/wrong choice.
I can't wait for the next Tom Hunt offering.
Gary and Beth are happily married and happily pregnant after having tried so long for a baby that they had nearly given up hope. All seems to be going well until suddenly and unexpectedly Beth collapses. After a trip to the emergency room they are given devastating news. Beth has an inoperable tumor and may have less than a year to live. Her only hope of survival is a costly experimental treatment that they can not afford.
Meanwhile a shady character named Otto has caught the eye of a crooked cop and wants to be rid of him permanently. He hatches a plan to have the cop murdered by someone who has no connection to him so that he will never be a suspect. When Otto sees an article about Gary and Beth's dire situation he decides to take advantage of their desperate need for money.
This was a fast paced, suspenseful, action packed thriller with a lot of heart. There were a couple of things that irked me, having to do with police procedure and cash that I won't go into so as not to spoil the story but overall I enjoyed it.
3.75 out of 5 stars rounded up to 4
I would actually give this 3-1/2 stars!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is a page-turner that will keep you guessing as to what happens next. Gary’s wife, Beth, find out that she has a brain tumor, and her only hope is a trial that will set them back $200K, which they don’t have. Beth is determined to raise the money, which trickles in, and then Gary receives an offer that could alleviate their money troubles. But at what price? Wat a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive! Things quickly spiral out of control, in directions you won’t see coming.
The characters are solid and likable, well, at least at the beginning. And while I prefer to think of myself as being able to take the moral high ground (don’t we all?) if I were faced with this dilemma, would I? How far would I go to save someone I love? How far would you go? Under what circumstances?
The ending left me a little unsatisfied, but the writing and dialog are solid, and the plot and twists will keep you reading
OMG!! Talk about trepidation and fear!
I asked my husband what he would do if we needed money to save my life. His answer was he would do whatever it took within reason, and the line he drew the line at murder because it goes against my moral code.
This book goes to show that even the best laid plans don't always work the way they should. Things will go wrong with even the most microscopic planning and the end results may not be worth the sacrifice.
I like this story as it makes you think and you're sitting on the edge of your seat waiting on the other shoe to drop. What I didn't like was the main character was a bit of a weakling. It may just be my perception because I've read a lot of alpha male model recently.
I never want to discourage you from trying out a new book, so grab yourself a copy and be prepared to be worried and scared throughout the whole book.
This one is definitely a page-turner! Goodness, I don't think I got anything done while reading it, just the basics until I finished the book. Beth and Gary have been married a while, soulmates and best friends. They have tried for a while to have children and finally Beth is pregnant. Then Gary gets a call that Beth collapsed and is in hospital. She is seriously ill with a brain tumour and the only hope is a revolutionary kind of treatment in Germany, but the total cost is $200,000. They do start fund raising but that moves slowly, Beth is due to give birth in a month and after that the treatment should start. Then Gary gets a phone call, he is offered the $200,000 but has to kill someone for it. I will divulge no more but it gets fascinating from here. How far will Gary go to save Beth's life? Could he become a killer? I will say that I started out liking Gary but liked him less and less as the book went on. This is a great and fast action read!
What an amazing book!!! Roller coaster ride and kept me on the edge wanting to know what would happen next!!!
Killer Choice, by Tom Hunt is one of those books I really didn’t want to put down until the end.
I will say that it was hard for me to get behind some of the choices our main character made in this book. He quickly went from a sympathetic character to a man defined more by weakness than anything else. I actually ended up really disliking him by the end of the book.
I think, though, that the author gives us some real ethical conundrums and each reader may react a bit differently to Gary.
But it’s a fast and extremely suspenseful read. I really wanted to know if Gary and Beth would make it out of all this okay.
A solid thriller!

3.5/5 Good, not great. For me, this was a little too clean. The plot was very straight forward with no real twists or turns, it had a reliable narrator, and in the end everything more or less works itself out. I read it in a day and in another day I will forget it.
Gary and Beth Foster are a happy couple. They've been married for several years and are now expecting their first baby. Gary has recently opened a retail store with his brother, and life is good. That is until Beth unexpectedly collapses one day. After numerous tests it's discovered that Beth has a life threatening brain tumor. An experimental drug trial is available to them but will cost $200,000 - money they don't have. Gary is contacted by a dubious stranger who offers him the money they desperately need but with a condition. Gary must kill a man.
This debut thriller by Tom Hunt will have you flipping pages into the late hours of the night. The edge of your seat will become worn as you're following Gary in his quest to save his wife's life. There are twists and turns and things I didn't see coming in this book that kept it all exciting. I gasped out loud a couple of times, and my heart was pounding as I read through these pages..
One of my favorite parts about this book is that it asks the uncomfortable question - what would you be willing to do (or not willing to do) in order to have a chance of saving someone you love? Gary is a reasonable, moral guy and he's suddenly forced into a desperate situation. I'm glad this is fiction because I don't know that I could handle the pressure!
I could not put this book down!!!! I was absolutely riveted and could not wait to see what happened from page to page. The main character is in a situation where he has to make a tough decision to save his wife/baby's life. A difficult situation and I do not know what I would do if my loved one was in the same type of predicament. Nobody should ever have to make a choice like that. Lots of twists and held my attention to the very end! Great debut novel! Will be looking for more from Tom Hunt for sure.
How far would you go to save the life of your wife and unborn child? That is the decision that Gary Foster has to make. His wife Beth is expecting their first child and Gary's life is great. He has opened a store with his brother and he is happily married and awaiting his new son. Then he gets a call that will change his life - Beth has had a seizure and is in hospital. The diagnosis is grim and the only option is to try some experimental surgery, but that costs $200,000. Friends start to rally together to try and raise the money, but Gary can see no way that they can get the large sum that they need. Then Gary meets with a man who offers him the full amount, but on one condition - Gary must kill someone. He is faced with a choice nobody should ever have to make. This book has just the right amount of twists to keep you reading late into the night. A real page turner . I thank the publishers for giving me an ARC, through Netgalley, for my honest unbiased review.
Was given this book as an ARC through NetGalley. Where do I begin. Gary's wife is pregnant, passes out and at the hospital finds out she is dying from a brain tumor. He needs $200,000 to save her through a clinical trial in Germany but in order to get the money he needs to kill someone. Would you do it? I battled with this question throughout the book.
This is a page turner as the story gets more involved, the people get more intriguing. The more Gary lies the deeper he gets buried in this web. This book is not due out until January 2018 so make sure it is on your TBR list.
I was trying to decide between a 4 star or 5 star rating because of the ending.....not exactly what I was expecting....but then again is Mr Hunt thinking of a sequel????
I'm not sure what I thought of this one. The story moved along at a good pace. I'm not sure of the ending. While I can understand why Gary did what he did, I can't get over the fact that nothing happened to him. The ending seemed like it needed to go on a little bit further, so Beth could leave him or something. I needed him to get in trouble somehow or have Beth leave him. This would be a great selection for a book club. A great conversation would come out of it.
