Little Pea is different. He doesn't realize quite how different until he goes to school and everything is too big for him and everyone towers over him, leaving him all alone at recess. He discovers that he loves to draw and, as the book continues, he grows up (just a little) to find the perfect job: a postage stamp artist. The illustrations in this picture book are stunning and the prose is beautiful "Sometimes he would float on a lily pad, where he would daydream and marvel at the size of the universe." However, the message doesn't work for me. While the idea that there's a place (and job) for everyone is a good one - and you can't be too small to be a great artist - I didn't enjoy how isolated Little Pea was. No one played with him at recess and he's always shown alone. I would have liked to see him find a friend as friendship is so important to kids (and adults!).
This title, to be published in September, is a delightful retelling of the Tom Thumb tale except with a unique twist at the end. Sébastien Mourrain's illustrations are charming in shades of green.
Little Pea's parents ensure that he has a wonderful childhood. He turns out to be a precocious child who enjoys the same kinds of activities other children his age enjoy like climbing & wrestling, but Little Pea also taught himself to swim and engages in tightrope walking.

It isn't until Little Pea starts school that he realizes how different he is, and how his size limits his ability to participate in the activities of his peers.
At the end we learn that Little Pea may be small, but when he grows up he can still live a rich life and contribute to the world in a surprising way.
Good message in a fun book. Great illistrations. Good read with kids to talk about differences and how to overcome challenges. Would recommend this book.
What a delightful book and what a sweet, loveable main character. Little Pea is micro-size. His mother has to make his clothes, he sleeps in a matchbox and he drives a wind-up car. He grows older but remains mini-size.
He explores his world around him and loves to wrestle, rappel off his lego tower, read books, ride horseback (mmmm... not a real horse, would you believe a grasshopper substitute?) and swim in the frog pond. He is a very good swimmer by the way. He taught himself that skill at a very young age.
He starts school and cannot fit in. Everything there is oversized and down-right dangerous for a little guy his size. His teacher looks at him and wonders what will happen to him in the future? How will he ever manage when his school life is over? One thing that Little Pea discovers is that he loves drawing and guess what? He's very, very skilled at it.
As he journeys into adulthood he takes it upon himself to build his own home, grow tomatoes in his yard, and daily zooms to work in his wind-up car. Can you guess what his job might be? It's one that is tailor-made perfectly for Little Pea and everyone gives him their stamp of approval!
The illustrations are packed full of details and emotions and look almost animated. Kids will gobble them up and learn a very valuable life lesson - that even the smallest among us can make a big mark. I highly recommend this book.
Illustrations were delightful. Nice moral to the story and appropriate for the age range.
Super cute, full of great messages and darling illustrations.
The Tiny Tale of Little Pea is the story of a tiny person who loves life as he is growing. When he begins school, he realizes that he is very small and there are a lot of things he can not do. The world is not very accommodating. Even though he has difficulty doing many things at school, he finds a job as an adult, lives in his own home that he has built and is happy. as it's a fun story about Little Pea who finds he's too small to do many things. He finds a job that suits him perfectly and seems to live happily ever after. There was not a lot of text with this story but the illustrations were lovely and would add a lot to the discussion about what was happening. I would definitely make sure that a discussion was held about how Little Pea should have been treated, accommodations for those who need them in life and determination. This book could be used as a mentor text for drawing conclusions, making predictions as well as making inferences. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
I received this ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.
Little Pea is very small. He sleeps in a matchbox and his shoes are let over doll shoes. Little Pea doesn't realize that his height or lack of makes him different until he gets to school. He is too small for his desk, for his lunch and especially for gym class. He spends recess by himself drawing. His teacher worries about what he will do with his life. It turns out that his job is perfect for him and his size. A beautifully written book with a positive message and wonderful illustrations.
Little Pea is a gender swapped Tumblelina. He likes to climb lego bricks, and wrestle stuff toys. He is a little small for school but when he grows us he finds the perfect job for a little person. A cute story with matching illustrations.

No matter your size, there is always something splendid for you to do. Little Pea makes his way through the world and finds his just right way from his earliest days to his calling in life. A delightful and cheerful story that will delight our littlest readers.

I have a tiny two year old girl, full of fire and imagination. And we've built up quite a collection of children's books for her. So we sit and read, and she points at pictures and she laughs and describes what she sees and why it's "so funny" to her. So, I discovered this sweet little book, The Tiny Tale of Little Pea, and we read it last night, and twice this morning. The illustrations are so cute and really capture the author's words. She especially enjoyed Little Pea swimming in the sink with his ducky. It was seriously adorable and it had such a great message. And now I want to design some stamps
I enjoyed reading The Tiny Tale of Little Pea as it's a fun story about Little Pea who finds he's too small to do many things. He finds a job that suits him perfectly and seems to live happily ever after.
However, as a teacher who is constantly trying to encourage children to do whatever it is they enjoy regardless of size etc I feel this book doesn't support that. It left me with a feeling of if you're small there are lots of things you can't do so you shouldn't keep trying/settle for something easy. I'm sure this isn't the message that the author wanted and I'm possibly reading too deeply but if I was to share this with my class I'd remind them about resilience and determination.
A lovely story demonstrating how anything is possible for anyone. I would have liked to see his interest in art brought forward earlier in the story to make that connection.
This story is about Little Pea, who is very little. He is completely happy being little, until he starts school and then suddenly he is living on his own. I thought the story was really choppy and I felt like there were a lot of things I wanted to know about Little Pea (like his mom made his clothes, but nothing else? What about his dad? Did he have siblings? Did he ever make any friends?).
A delightful story! It is filled with beautiful illustrations and the story is well told. I loved reading about Little Pea and hope that there will be more tales in the future.
Funny and imaginative!
This is a sweet story about a young boy, who also happens to be a little, tiny boy, who does not let his size deter him from pursuing the things that he loves.
Adventure? He can do it!
Laughter? He has it!
Imagination? He follows his to a tee!
Size will not stop this sweet, adventurous boy--and nothing should stop you!
