If you have girls, I couldn't more strongly recommend this book. I believe it has helped make my prayers more focused and effective, and it has given me ideas of how to talk to my kids now, and in the future about what it means to be a Christ-follower. I pray it has a similar impact on your family as well.
I have two daughters who are now in their teens. I cannot begin to count the number of times during their lives that I was reduced to speechless groaning in my prayers for them, trusting that verse about the Holy Spirit praying on my behalf. I wish I had this book years ago, when they were small. But it’s never too late to develop a richer prayer life, and this book is a great tool for doing just that.
The book is divided into different sections, based on different struggles a girl may face:
Her identity--finding her security and strength in God's love and acceptance,
Her heart--pursuing a life of purity and devotion to the Lord,
Her mind--committing to growing in wisdom and discernment regardless of her circumstances,
Her relationships--developing skills and attitudes to foster healthy relationships,
Her purpose--trusting God with her life, gifts, and passions.
I found the more than 200 prayers in this book to be refreshing, Biblically sound, and enlightening as they developed a springboard in my mind of other issues to pray about regarding my daughters.
I gratefully received an eARC from the author, publisher, and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.
I'm a mom of 4 kids. 3 of those are girls ages 16, almost 6 and 4. I expected this book to be geared more towards my 16 year old.
I was shocked to find in each chapter ways to make this work for my 6 and 4 year old girls too. Truly a book that will grow with us as my littles grow.
The chapters were well written. The prayers absolutely perfect and right on topic. I loved the suggestions for driving home each point the most of anything in the book. I'm so quilty of focusing on one daughter at a time and this really helped me look for ways to make this work for all 3 girls.
Now I need this book geared for my son.
How many Christian moms, aunts, teachers, sisters, grandmothers, mentors pray for the girls in their lives? And how many of these adults struggle with what to pray for them sometimes? The girls are so much younger and deal with things the adults can't always understand. Whether you are someone looking to pray for a girl in a particular situation or just pray for their well-being, this book is for you.
Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most is a book that endeavors to do just that. It gives practical tips and suggestions for praying for the girls in your life. Each chapter focuses on a particular topic and contains tips for praying and teaching, word-for-word prayers, applicable Bible verses, examples from the author's own experience, and a section just for the moms of those girls.
Praying for Girls was a book I found enlightening and helpful. Though it was catered to the moms of the girls, I'm not a mom myself, not yet. But I am an older sister and a friend to younger girls who need my prayers. And it isn't only the girls who could use the verses and "lessons" from this book. It opens to a section on understanding who you are in Christ, which was a helpful reminder to myself as much as it is an essential topic to teach the girls in our lives.
Praying for Girls is a very useful book for assisting women in how to pray for the girls in their lives. I recommend it.
I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
