This is the third book in the Nick Lassiter-Skyler International Espionage Series but it was the first that I’ve read. Nick Lassiter is a young author who has witnessed an assignation in Washington, DC restaurant. Nick is brought literally face-to-face with the killer, an older man who looks enough like him to be his father. With the blessing of his CIA father, Nick becomes entangled with vigilante Polish billionaire Stanislaw Pularchek who is out to rid the world of terrorists. A suicide bombing in a Warsaw restaurant puts Nick, Pularchek and Skyler, a beautiful Italian assassin, on the trail of lost Nazi treasure.

You will most likely root for the international criminal, Pularchek and his assassin side-kick Skyler. As a main character, Nick Lassiter is not particularly interesting. He is rather naïve and often annoyed me. Marquis has a balanced writing style with excellent descriptions of locations and he has clearly done his research. There is enough action and suspense to keep you entertained until the dramatic ending.

Nick Lassiter and Natalie Perkins are married and looking forward to their honeymoon. They are having dinner at the Willard Hotel when the two men at the next table are shot and killed. Without thinking Nick takes off after the man he sees across the way who he thinks fired the shots. Little does he know where this will take him and the things he will learn. Accidentally he shoots the man while struggling with him. He can't get over how much the man looks like him and needs answers from his parents. This will take him with Natalie and his dad, Brewbaker all over Europe to meet his biological father, Stanislaw Pularchek. This father goes after bad guys who are financing the war on terror. The assassin, Skyler is there to help when needed. This read will bring surprises and intrigue that will keep you involved from the beginning to the end.
