Great way to get our tween girls to enjoy graphic novels, they love Descendents and this made a great topic for them to watch and read this for our book club.
Disney and Disney Channel fans and the fans of Melissa de la Cruz knows what this series really is. Shortly this is the story of famous fairytale protagonists’ sons. But the point of view are the one of Mal, daughter of Maleficent, and of the others sons of villains like Evie, daughter of Evil Queen, or Jay, the son of Jafar, and also Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil.
Those four protagonists, thanks to an act by the future king of Auradon - reign of the good ones -, his royal highness Ben, son of Beast and of Belle, are going to be admitted to the school where they are going to know what is good and what it means to be friends and real feel something. Where they come from there is only badness, no feels. This is called Isle of the Lost, a place where you can find all the villains from the fairytales. There is a wall around the island e no one can enter or leave without the approval of the royals.
For these four friends comes finally the opportunity to leave the island and redeem themselves. But if their parents are the villains ones this does not imply they are evil too. It’s unfair they are blamed for their parents’ faults. So they will not be the only one to learn something at the Auradon school, but even the good ones.
This manga is the exactly replica of the Descendants film, only that it is divided in three volumes. In the first volume we leave them when they are starting to acclimatize in the new school and everything need still to happen.
I liked very much the drawings and they made me appreciate even more this series. I can’t wait to read the second volume, because I am sure I will appreciate again the drawings, though I know the plot.
This manga was an interesting read. The plot was intriguing. The art was cool. Looking forward to the next volumes.
Probably will be very popular with younger readers who are already fans of Disney's Descendants.
Love the adaptation and the beautiful artwork! Perfect for Disney and manga fans!
A cute manga based around the lives of the descendants of Disney villains. Would recommend for any JV graphic novel collection.
As a disclaimer, I am a huge fan of the movie (and looking forward to the sequel), as well as the books by Melissa de la Cruz.
I was really excited when I saw this on Netgalley, because it was another story in the Descendants world, but when I was reading it, I was actually a little disappointed. This volume was the first of 3 in the story, so it only went through part of the story. I was expecting it to be longer and maybe expand on other things from the movie, but it was really just telling the exact same story in a different form. Which made me want to watch the movie, instead of read this manga.
It was a really quick read, and the art was beautiful, but unless you're a huge fan of Descendants, I'd probably skip this one and just stick to the movie and Melissa de la Cruz's books. I probably won't bother reading the other two in the trilogy.

This was a great read! A colorful manga/comic adaptation of Disney's Descendants following four villains who've been chosen to go to a school in Auradon and retrieve the fairy godmother's wand. The characters are funny, sassy, quirky, and villainous, & the art is beautiful! I recommend for all the Disney & manga fans!
I love all about the descendants stories ( the books and movie) and the comic it's a good idea, although I think that maybe the story could have been only in 1 book.
I love the desings, the characters and I hope to see the next one
Very fun and cute Manga for middle readers. I enjoyed the story and the set up for the series. Can't wait to be able to finish the rest of the books.
This was my first introduction to the Disney Villains children. It isn't my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal that these characters have. The artwork is pure manga cuteness, and the story is good.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I saw this comic (Sorry, I wouldn't call it manga, it does use a style that somewhere resembles manga-style, but that is it.) on Netgalley and was curious. I had tried the book version of this series when it came out, and sadly didn't like it (still sad about it, as the idea and blurb sounded awesome and perfect for me). So I was curious if the comic would be better. Sometimes comics lend themselves better for this kind of thing than a normal book does.
Sadly, just like the book, I didn't particularly like it. I am giving it 2 stars because I like the colourful art, the idea is good, I like Evie (and sometimes Mal). But there is just too much that either didn't make sense (why suddenly allow children of villains after so many years of not allowing villains to come out of their prison) or the time just went weirdly (so they just arrive at this school and immediately go for the wand instead of just making a plan and thinking a bit further).
Plus add to that the fact I didn't like the male characters at all. Jay was just bleh, he was boring + he seemed like he couldn't do anything at all. Then we have Carlos who is apparently obsessed with lamps and genies (I guess it runs in the family, though how I don't want to know) and he is the biggest idiot ever. Oh hey, there is the wand, let me just jump right at it. *sighs and rolls her eyes*
The worldbuilding is also confusing. For some reason all the villains (and heroes) are together no matter their original story or time. How did that happen? I mean I can imagine Mal's mom and Evie's Mom being together, but also Jafar? And Cruella? And who knows who else?
Also it is just a tad bit boring that apparently no one is trying to break the mold. Unless that will still happen. But our villain kids are evil. The heroes are good. Really? Can't we have at least one who just wants to be evil, or just wants to be good?
As I said, I like the art. It is a fun style and the character look pretty much how I would expect them to look. :P I just want to know what happened to Jafar, he looks sooooo different.
But yeah, I won't be continuing this series. It just isn't for me. I have at least tried, twice at that.
I really liked this manga.
Disney Mangas in general are my favorites and I just loved the idea of the story with the descendants of our beloved Disney characters.
I really hope there will be more volumes in this series as I just love it.
Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos are the children of some of Disney's most heinous villains and they have been invited to attend the school that all the "goody two shoes" go, Auradon Prep. Their parents have sent them to the school with another plan in mind, stealing the wand of the fairy godmother. After a failed attempt the four must really attend the school and plot their next attempts...uhm, I mean... attempt.
This is a great beginning-- it is fun to see what the children of some of the beloved Disney characters might be like and the idea is a really great one. I haven't ever watched the show... but I might be interested in it now that I have read this manga.
True to the movie Manga adaptation of the Descendants. I enjoyed this new format for the story. The artwork is lovely, and the story is just as fun.
