Just finished my advance copy provided through NetGalley. Another good mystery by Miss Coble. I do have to say though that I suspected the guilty party as soon as I was introduced to them. I also don't particularly care for the use of a small child in a vulnerable position.
How exciting to find a new romantic suspense author (to me) in Colleen Coble. The View from Rainshadow Bay was exciting from beginning to end. I will be looking for more books to read by this talented author.
This is the first book by Colleen Coble that I have read that has not been historical fiction. I found that I was drawn into the mystery that she was living. The characters were likable and I was cheering for them to solve the mystery and stay safe! I really liked this book and hope that she continues to write more!
The View from Rainshadow Bay is the first installment to Colleen Coble’s exciting whole new series, Lavender Tides. I thought it was pretty good. The action, adventure, mystery and suspense made it hard to put the book down. I did find the story to be somewhat predictable, I did enjoyed it. I would give the book 4 stars and would recommend it. I cannot wait to read the next book in the Lavender Tides series.
Colleen Coble can always be counted on for hours of reading enjoyment. Her latest novel, The View From Rainshadow Bay, is no exception. Coble consistently sets her romantic mysteries in locations that are intricately woven into the storyline. In this novel her readers will spend time in the Pacific Northwest with Shauna McDade, a young widow and single mom. Shauna’s life spun out of control beginning with her husband’s falling to his death while mountain climbing with his childhood friend, Zach Bannister. Now Shauna is in the uncomfortable position of having to rely on Zach, not only to fill in for her husband on a father and son outing, but to provide safe shelter for herself and her son Alex. As readers of romantic fiction could already guess, both Shauna and Zach find their feelings toward one another changing as they both share a living space as well as work together to solve a rash of murders in the small town of Lavender Tides.
The theme of The View From Rainshadow Bay comes from Romans 8:28: And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. This is a verse that many of us have had to rely on when facing tough times, and we can find encouragement in Shauna’s story. That said, this book is not preachy in any way, and would be equally enjoyed by Christians and non-Christians. The mystery is intriguing, and Coble provides many possible antagonists for the reader to sort through in an effort to identify the murderer. The romance adds tension to the story without taking over.
I thank NetGalley and the Thomas Nelson publishing company for providing me a copy of The View From Rainshadow Bay in exchange for an honest review. I received no monetary compensation
* I will post on line and add the links here during the week of the book's release.
I loved this book. She does such a great job of describing characters and settings. She also does a great job with the mystery angle. I hope there are more books in this sister as I want to know more about the brother and sister.
I loved this book. The story captured my imagination from the beginning and I loved how it unraveled. From the death of Jack which at first was thought of as an accident to the revelation that it was murder. It was lovely to see the growing romance throughout the book however unlikely it seemed at first. It was a wonderful read from an author who is new to me. I shall be looking out her other books which I am sure will be just as wonderful.
I am not a fan of romance books but this author is so talented in mixing a romance into a great murder mystery book. This is a great start to another murder mystery series. I really enjoyed how the book showed what hate can do to our heart and what forgiveness can do for you. Also that your sins of the past no matter how long ago will find you out. I highly recommend this book.
This was my first book by Colleen Coble and I was truly blow away! Her characters are engaging and full of surprises, making you care what happens to them in the way you care for your real friends. The setting of Rainshadow Bay is both peaceful and mysterious, ready to give up its secrets if you are bold enough to look for them. I was also pleased that though a suspenseful story, Colleen Coble is clean, offering people who respect themselves enough not to sell their beliefs for fame. This story was well written, weaving a superb tale of mysterious and intrigue without the benefit of having to blush or 'skip' scenes due to graphic nature. Kudos to this wonderful book!! I will be reading many more,

The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble was a romantic murder mystery. The book brought us to a small town in Washington state on the Pacific Coast where a Shauna McDade and her son were trying to survive one step ahead of the bank. Her husband was killed in a climbing accident the previous year. She blamed her husband best friend Jack for his death. From the opening scene where her mentor was killed until the end was a roller coaster ride. There were earthquakes, unexplained run-offs, people murdered and small town gossip that punctuated the storyline. Unfortunately Shauna needed to turn to Jack for safety and as the story evolves her feelings for him increase.
Colleen Coble’s book The View from Rainshadow Bay is listed as the first of a new series called Lavender Tides. The writing is clear and enjoyable. The characters were well developed. The story balances the romance and the mystery. The book is a Christian romance and mystery which is not listed anywhere in the publishing information.
The View from Rainshadow Bay is a good read.
Shauna McDade is a widow raising her young son alone thanks to an accident that killed her husband a year ago in scenic Washington state. Bitter against his best friend Zach, whom she blames for the accident, Shauna won't have anything to do with him until she needs his help to prove that some strange things are happening in Rainshadow Bay, things that are leading to the deaths of friends and may ultimately lead to her own death. With earthquakes happening with more regularity than usual and the reappearance of her mother's missing necklace that hadn't been seen since her death, Shauna is caught up in a conspiracy that may lead her down a path that is even more dangerous than she knows. This book is a great read and has a wonderful setting with inspiring characters who are there to help each other in difficult times. You will not want to miss this first book in the new series by Colleen Coble!
Another winner by Colleen Coble. I love her work...and am always thrilled to read her next masterpiece. This one captivated my attention from the cover art. I loved this story...it's message....and it's simplicity. Thank you for sharing it w/ me. I have shared it w/ all of my reading friends...it's also on order at my local libraries. Five Stars!
Shauna is a grieving widow trying to make ends meet to support her small son. She lives in a small town and when her friends begin dying in suspicious circumstances, she begins to wonder if the deaths are related. She turns to Zach, her late husband's best friend, for help. Together they begin piecing together the events to try to figure out if something sinister is going on.
I enjoyed this book. I was caught up in the mystery and kept turning the page to see how everything would turn out. I enjoyed the characters and the back story. I did think the turnabout in Shauna and Zach's relationship may have been a little quick, but I do think their years of friendship made the shift more believable.
Let’s just get it out there in the open. Anyone who knows me or has followed my reviews for a bit knows I’m a big fan of Colleen Coble. I’ve been reading her books for years, I’m fairly certain I own them all, because I can always count on her to write something that allows me to relax. I like knowing when my life is stressful I can count on her to make it better for a bit.
Now she’s writing a whole new series, this being the first, and her setting is absolutely gorgeous so I was able to be whisked away from this reprehensible heat to go hang out with a new set of characters.
I’ve always loved that despite being a rock in the Christian Fiction field she writes fantastic plots with plenty of suspenseful action and doesn’t bash you over the head with the religious aspect. I don’t say that to be rude and I’m certainly not bashing Christians but I have friends across the spiritual realm so I like having an author I can recommend to everyone regardless of their belief system. My non-Christian friends want to read ‘clean’ suspense too that isn’t full of blood, rape scenes, drug dens, etc so Coble fits the bill.
Does this one ever deliver on the action, emotional drama, and characters you just want to hug. In trademark Coble creation she provides a slew of fictionalized people that feel more real than not with problems and answers that are firmly grounded in reality to help you feel invested in the journey.
Buckle up and be prepared to fight through danger, villainous intrigue, and natural disasters just waiting to throw even more turmoil into an already tumultuous dynamic.
This book has a beautiful cover, and there were occasional references to lavender throughout. Basically, this was a murder/kidnap/chase story which had elements of a super read but then lurched into events or people that were just too convenient to be true. Shauna, the main character and helicopter pilot worked well for me, but I could not relate to some of the others, namely her father. I will not spoil the ending which could happen, but not for me. The fact that I read it very quickly must mean something, but I could not give it five stars.
I really liked the Washington setting of this book, but thought that the story itself was slow. The characters were good ones, and I liked the balance between the romance and the suspense. I'll continue the series, but hope the next one moves along a little more quickly.
I am excited that this is the first of a new series by Colleen Coble, one of my all time favorite authors. This series takes place in a beautiful coastal area of Washington state where we see small town life with lavender fields and forest land.
As always, the book takes off with action and suspense that carries throughout the story. Shauna McDade is a widow with a five year old son to support. Shauna owns a helicopter that she uses to fly customers around and also uses the flights as a platform for aerial photography. She is grieving the loss of her husband Jack to a senseless accident that claimed his life when he was mountain climbing with his friend Zach. She is bitter toward Zach and holds him responsible for encouraging competition between Jack and himself that led to the accident. But after the deaths of her mentor Clarence and his wife Lucy and it becomes apparent that she may be in the killer's sight, she has no where to turn for protection but Zach. As they deal with events that lead to clues about what is going on, it turns out that they are dealing with a more far reaching situation that they expected.
Shauna lost her mom to an earthquake when Shauna was eight years old. She also lost her little brother and baby sister in the disaster. Her father has never gotten over the event and has become a drunk. Despite his faults, Shauna loves her father but there are questions that she has surrounding the event that took their family.
The View from Rainshadow Bay has suspense, danger, natural disasters, charged emotions and threads of faith mixed in. I am looking forward to the upcoming books in this series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read this ARC and give an honest review.
This is the first book I have read by Colleen Coble, I really enjoyed it and will look to read more.
It is a well constructed and intricate plot which deals in part with how the main character, Shauna McDade and her five year old son Alex, have been been coping with life after the death of Shauna's husband Jack in a climbing accident a year previously. I found it easy from the start to obtain a mental image of the town, Lavender Tides, where Shauna lives, as the author described it as looking like " it had been plucked from a Thomas Kinkade painting". As I like Thomas Kinkade's paintings, this enabled me to picture strongly what the town would look like and really set the scene for the story to come.
The book also explored how the relationship develops between Shauna and Zac, who had been Jack's closest friend and was with him when he was killed. Shauna blames Zach for Jack's death, and finds it hard to trust him.
A murder mystery combined with the gradual piecing together of the characters back stories, including the struggle of being a single parent, and the financial struggles this can involve, plus a burgeoning love story, make this a multi faceted interesting novel and one I thoroughly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The View From Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble is set in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest. Prior to reading this book, I had not realized that lavender is harvested in this area of our country! The plot of this books centers around Shauna and her son, Shauna's mother-in-law, and Shauna's husband's best friend. Shauna's husband was recently killed, and Shauna is still reeling from this event while trying to help herself and her young son heal from their tragic loss.
I loved this book for a few specific reasons. First, I enjoyed reading about a part of the country that I had never visited. I learned a lot about the landscape from the author's vivid descriptions, as well as from the fact that the main character is a pilot who flies over the gorgeous landscape. There is also a fascinating aspect of the plot that I won't mention as it would be a spoiler; suffice it to say I have never read a book that included this idea. I also loved that the characters in this book seemed so true to life. I was able to relate to each of them as I learned their stories.
My favorite part of this book, though, was the theme of forgiveness that permeates each page. Shauna had to forgive Nate, her husband's best friend, who was there when he was killed. Nate had to forgive himself, as well. And in a sense, both of them had to forgive Shauna's husband for leaving them so tragically. Colleen Coble developed these ideas tenderly and with care.
I would highly recommend this book to fans of Coble's as well as to new readers of her work. Colleen Coble is an excellent storyteller and I found this book hard to put down.
What secrets are hiding in the forest of the Pacific Northwest? The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble is the story of Shauna, a helicopter pilot/photographer in Puget Sound. She is still reeling from the accidental death of her husband Jack while trying to raise their five year old son on her own. She suddenly find herself in danger and has to turn to her late husband’s best friend Zach, the man she blames for his death. The story continues with many twists and turns—you will not be able to put it down! Colleen Coble fans and any fans of mysteries/thrillers will not be disappointed! I love how Colleen Coble skillfully weaves messages of hope and faith in her books while never being preachy. I especially loved the meaning of the title and its message of God’s care for us as it is explained in the book. This book is the first in a new series called Lavender Tides. I cannot wait for more books to be released. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
