Royal Pain introduces Tracy Wolff's Royal Hotness series with a sudden life changing event that wrecks havoc with its force and the revelations of its fall out.
Prince Kian of Wildemar, spare to the heir, is known for his charm and skill at evading responsibility. Savannah Breslin is trying to move forward five years after being swept off her feet by a prince only to be left behind because she was not good enough to share his crown.
Kian was an interesting character as his outer persona was constantly at war with with his real self. To the world he was seen as the jet setting prince know as "His Royal Hotness" enjoying the privileges of his station without the responsibilities of it. When Wildemar is thrown into chaos with the kidnapping of Kian's twin brother, Crown Prince Garrett, Kian is taken from a person of little consequence to becoming the man the future of the kingdom depends upon. This work did not so much evolve Kian but show the actual man and what he was capable of. Finding his potential was key to this portrayal as well as being one of the main factors in the development of this story. The frivolous life of a playboy that Kian lived ultimately was found to be lacking as he was given the opportunity to exert his presence as more then a spare.
Life had not been easy for Savannah Breslin from the deaths of her parents to her rejection from the man she though was her true love. When she meets Kian all her notions of love are thrown out the window as she realizes that her past experiences with love pale in comparison to her connection with Kian. Savannah carried a lot of baggage that was carefully tackled as her relationship with Kian grew. This was a hard and rocky attraction as outside pressures and looming secrets set the tone for this couple. A winding plot with lots of denial and angst pushed Savannah to some emotionally trying places where instinct struggled with logic. Savannah carried her story close and her passions when unlocked were intense.
Tracy Wolff did a great job at displaying her characters strengths and insecurities as they grappled with their feelings. Kian was sexy in his appearance but it was his determined actions that pushed him to a whole other level with his strong stance on his relationship with Savannah and refusing to undermine their love for duty. Even at his most decadent this author was able to convey the genuine Kian, a man of integrity, and that writing skill does not come easily. Ms.Wolff uncovered Savannah vulnerabilities even while maintaining a nice level of spunk. This book had more drama then laughs but the humor accentuated the depth of the sorrow that accompanied the plot throughout this work. Doing the right thing did not have to be at the personal sacrifice of the people involved and this was a very dominant ongoing theme to the end. Ms. Wolff is a gifted writer and her signature style was very present in this work. While the beginning of this story moved a bit slow the second half's explosive twist gave this story the boost it needed and compensated for some lagging earlier moments. I
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Fantastic writing and a great twist on a royal romance! Highly recommend!
I have mixed feelings about this book. It is sort of a Cinderella story, with the cocky prince and the waitress, who really pushes his buttons. I have read Tracy Wolf before and like her writing style, but I don't know whether I am tired of this “Royal Trope”, or whether these characters just didn’t wow me. I had to push through to read the first part of this book. The second half was definitely better. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this for an honest review.
So I should tell you all right now that I have a hit or miss relationship with royal romances. Other than Marquita Valentine’s Royal series, I find that royal-centric romance novels are a little too over the top for my tastes so I was a little hesitant when I came across Royal Pain.
One of the things I had to get over when reading this story is the first person POV which honestly, made it very difficult to like Kian who is supposed to be our hero. I don’t have a problem with Kian being a playboy or just a hard partying spare heir, none of that bothers me. Hell, I believe he’s earned that kind of lifestyle with the kind of restrictions placed upon royals. But hearing his inner most thoughts made it very difficult to sympathize with him, to give a damn about him.
At the start of the story I honestly liked Garrett more and was hoping he would come back and take Kian’s place. But I digress…
The story itself was…okay. I didn’t feel any real pull to Kian or Savannah and I didn’t really care about them. I finished the story more because I just wanted to know how it all turned out. Let’s just say there were some mysteries within this story beyond Garrett’s disappearance that added a few layers to the story, but overall I just felt meh about this story.
It is well written and the story is developed but I think Royal Pain would have been more compelling written in third person.
Royal Pain is an OK royal romance. Kian is the spare heir, the 2nd born prince of Wildemar. He's a royal playboy known for his manwhore ways and his Navy service, not for being serious and king-like. So when his twin, Garrett, is kidnapped, and Kian is called home to take on the Crown Prince duties while the search for Garrett is on, Kian is feeling completely out of his depth. To be honest, Kian does not give a great first impression. He comes across as a serious douche and I was left dreading that the whole story would be shallow like he appeared. He meets Savvy, a waitress at one of the events he has to attend, when she rescues him from just one of the many cunning women who seek to snag the new Crown Prince.
Kian is instantly attracted, but Savvy turns him down flat. He's a prince with resources galore, though, and tracks her down. Kian is a predator, and Savvy his new prey, his new conquest, and the chase is on. Soon, though, it turns into more and this is where I should have been swooning. The playboy being brought to his knees by love is one of my favorite tropes, so I figured I'd love Royal Pain. Unfortunately, I just didn't quite connect with it. It's a bit rushed, and Savvy's big secret (view spoiler) wasn't such a big deal. I'm glad it was found out early on in the story, but still, it took away from my enjoyment of the story. It left me feeling a bit icky to be honest. It isn't that I didn't like Kian or Savvy, because I did, and Royal Pain is sexy, it's just that the overall story didn't quite lift itself out of the usual and into something I'll remember, or something I connected with.
I feel like I'm being vague, but I can't be more specific other than to just say that I don't love Royal Pain. I don't hate it, either, it's just not the amazing royal story I had been hoping for. I do have hopes that Garrett's story will be good though, and I'm looking forward to it, as Garrett showed potential in the small part of the story he was in.
Royal Pain by Tracy Wolff was a arc book shared with me. The book, while being totally unrealistic for our world was entertaining. The main character Kian - the spare of the heir, suddenly finds himself in awkward territory with his brother missing and maybe dead and suddenly he is the HEIR. To top it off Kian finds a woman who intrigues him and is not impressed by who he is. Savvy is an American who is a free spirit. Kian struggles with his relationship with his father and Savvy as well as others. He sees that others are writing his brother off and that just is wrong.
An interesting premise and plot along with interesting characters makes the book better. Royal Pain by Tracy Wolff is listed as the first in a new series called His Royal Hotness. The book was an okay read if you are reading for hotness.
What is it about royal stories that is so addicting? You can start your royal wedding watch with this sexy, witty and very twisty story.
In this series kickoff book we meet Prince Kian of Wildemar, the heir’s spare who leaves all royal burdens to his older brother by minutes while indulging in all its benefits until his twin is kidnapped un quickly all future kingly responsibilities and attention turn to him, including that of the crown chasers. But no woman has ever caught his notice like the quick witted American waitress who spills Champaign all over him.
Savannah Breslin only wanted to rescue him from the clutches of a greedy woman. She’s uninterested and completely unaffected by his charming playboy ways. But there’s something about her Kian can’t resist, and even though she doesn’t deserve to get pulled into the spectacle that is his life he pursues her any way and soon finds out she knows more about him and his brother and anyone else. Can the the prince and the pauper find their fairytale happy ending?
In the chaos came from his brother’s kidnaping, Kian found peace from the panic and fear for his brother, freedom to be himself and overall happiness, not to mention an undeniable chemistry with Savvy. But despite the past that binds them and the connection they’ve found, Savvy knows their fledgling relationship is only temporary.
His position would never allow them to be together, especially if he’s to be the king. She’s already been there, done that, nevertheless decides to take advantage of whatever time they do have. “His Royal Hotness” Prince Kian, might have been a bad royal, but once in love he’s a man on a mission to get the girl no matter who stands in his way.
I was sucked into this story right from the start with Kian and Savvy’s sizzling attraction, quick exchanges and royal disasters. It was a delightful escape and I can’t wait to read the next installment.
Royal Pain is book #1 in His Royal Hotness series by Tracy Wolff. It is a full length contemporary romance. It packs a ton of light and flirty moments along with sexy electric ones. Told from both points of view with a happy ending.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
Royal romances are not my favorite so I wasn't sure how I would like this book but I was pleasantly surprised! At first, I really could not stand Kian, the ultimate playboy, but as the book went along, I started to see a different Kian. He changed so much when he met Savvy and found that he really a found the love of his life.
Things were a little complicated when Kian found out that Savvy had a romance with his twin brother five years before. There were lots of sparks when they met and Kian found that he felt more than just sex with her.
There was a bit of intrigue as you don't know what happened to Kian's brother, Garrett. Did he die or is he alive??
I saw that there is a sequel book with Garrett coming and can't wait til that comes out so we can see how things were resolved with him no longer being the crown prince.
3.5 Stars
Tracy Wolff is a new to me author that I will be reading more of her work. The cover and blurb had my anxious to get my hands on this book. This book made me think of Cinderella because he falls for a bartender/writer.
I wasn’t sure how I felt at about certain aspects of the story and when you read it you’ll see what I mean. It took me a little while to accept it and even then I wasn’t sure. That one thing was my only issue. The author knows how to craft a story and pull you in.
Prince Kian is a playboy and likes to have fun with no responsibilities. His brother Garrett is the Crown Prince of Wildemar. When Garrett is kidnapped Kain is devastated.
Savvy rescues the Prince and soon realizes there is more to him than just his playboy ways. There’s one thing that can keep them apart, a secret she’s keeping.
This was a cute story and it took me a while to get into it. The first half seemed very unrealistic to. Once I made it past that I enjoyed the story a lot more. I am looking forward to reading about Crown Prince Garrett.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters where fantastic and the story line was great!

Not your typical royalty romance novel that I was expecting. This had much more involved in it including a little suspense with the Prince being kidnapped.
I didn't like Prince Kian at the beginning of this book because I felt like he was gonna be too much of a sarcastic asshole. But as I kept reading I changed my mind. But he also changed his personality after falling in love so it made me like him more.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as they come out.
Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
Quick and easy romance. Overall it was cute. Savvy annoyed me because she was so worried that she wouldn't come first in anyone's life, but she didn't put him first either, especially at the end. Despite that, this was a sweet and sexy read.
I would like to start by thanking Random House Loveswept and NetGalley for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this review.
Oh man did I enjoy this book. The fact that Prince Kian had to deal with so many thing and was still is able to find love. Without giving too much away the past that Savvy keeps from Kian is what shapes her reaction and feeling for Kian. But I loved the fact that she is able to tame the wild man. I just wish she didn't give into him so easily sometimes. I think that she would have been a stronger character if she made Kian work for things. Savvy was such a renaissance character and didn't mind working hard for what she has in life. The only flaw I found with her is that she wasn't a stronger person when it came to herself. Again she was great and strong person for her survival needs but for her emotional ones she was weak. Now I also think a big part of why she was that way was due to the past. I do think though that my favorite character all around is definitely Kian. I can't wait for the next book and what Tracy Wolff has in store for us next.
I gave this book 5 royal kisses.
Happy Reading... Adri
I’m a big fan of Tracy Wolff but sadly this book fell a bit flat for me. While it was well written, as you’d expect from this author, I felt the plot wasn’t as solid as it could have been, nor was I able to connect with the characters.
Prince Kian is the quintessential playboy prince. He’s irresponsible, immature and basks in his status as second in line. He’s just as happy to let all the royal responsibilities fall squarely on his older brother Garrett’s shoulders. Then his brother goes missing.
Suddenly Kian is expected to fill his brother’s shoes until he’s found. Time for Kian to grow up! But between his new royal duties, fear for his brother’s life and trying to handle all the politics he’s becoming overwhelmed. Then he meets our sassy heroine Savvy.
Savvy is waitressing at a royal event and when she see’s Kian in an uncomfortable position she can’t help but come to the rescue. Kian is intrigued by the beautiful Savvy and the chase is on! Unfortunately, it’s a chase I just couldn’t get into.
Their relationship left me feeling annoyed at times and indifferent at others. Savvy was an ok character but when it came to Kian she seemed hot and cold all the time. In addition, I couldn’t become invested in the the two as a couple because of the relationship Savvy had in the past with someone Kian is close to. You’ll know what I mean when you get to that part. I don’t want to ruin it for you. For me anyway, it just didn’t feel right.
With that said there were some interesting twists and Tracy Wolff has a real talent for setting her readers on fire it was so hot! Though not my favorite of her many awesome works I still thought is was an enjoyable read! I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a quick escape and some serious steam.
This was my second book by this author and I COMPLETELY adored the first book of hers I read, so I went into this very excited. Unfortunately, second time was a swing and a miss for me. This book had a much "younger" vibe to it and the hero read like a privileged frat boy - a complete turn off for me. I detested his internal dialogue, and was unable to connect with the chemistry between him and Savvy. I appreciated her pluck and the wit, but unfortunately my feelings for Kian killed the deal for me and I put the book down for good at 30%.
Can you fall for a woman that your brother has known both emotionally and physically? But he is The Crown Prince by seven minutes. Making him the Heir and you the Spare. Would you be the Spare in this what seems to be a blossoming romance? Savvy, short for Savannah has you off kilter from the moment you laid eyes on her. But unbeknownst to you, she was your brothers first. There is something that draws you to her. You want her touch, her smell, her taste, her laughter and her joy to be yours.
Wolfe has given you a new female character with the ability to hold her own in the world of love.💘 The story pops from beginning to end.
I am a big fan of Tracy Wolff's work. Her stories, the intense chemistry between the hero and heroine and the steamy love scenes make for a very hot romance. "Royal Pain" also seemed promising at first. I mean who doesn't love a hero who is known as His Royal Hotness? And that is exactly what Kian is. The spare to the throne, he lives his life to the fullest with everything that the royal life has to offer. Kian is the quintessential rogue who every girl- heroine- wants to reform. And I was very much looking forward to his reformation.
Savannah Breslin is an American living in Wildemar. Working as a bartender, she sometimes takes extra work and waitresses to make ends meet. She is a writer and decided to move to Wildemar after falling in love with it. I don't want to give too much away, but apparently Wildemar wasn't the only thing that she fell in love with. We later find out that she is actually much more familiar with the royal life than she first admits.
I really wanted to love this book, but I just don't like it when the hero or heroine has previously had a relationship with the sibling of his/her love interest. It just really bothers me. There may be lots of readers who are completely ok with this but the fact that Savvy not only kept this fact to herself for so long and led Kian on just really bothered me. I liked Kian a lot and would have loved the story if the heroine's past was different but her history really kept me from getting into the story and enjoying it. Judging from what I read it seems like the next book in the story is going to be very interesting! Can't wait!
Keeping this relatively brief, I'll say I enjoyed the premise of this story and each character related to the plot. It was an interesting set up and the love story was romantic. It hooked from the start definitely. However, the actual execution of the story felt rushed to me. Everything from the plot to the romance happened at warp speed therefore not allowing me to ever make a true connection. In the middle it felt a little contrived and some scenes felt like fillers. So much went on with the plot a lot of points just felt too abrupt. The backstory of the heroine presented a unique conflict and the hero checks all good hero boxes. The two of them together did provide great banter and an passionate romance. It's a fast lover story for readers who enjoy Royal-esque romances - playboy prince and feisty heroine amidst chaos in the kingdom.
I really loved this! Wow, what an amazing character Kian is. At first you think he's going to be this one dimensional character that you really can't help but hate he was so much more than that. I didn't think I was going to like Savvy either when we find out about her past relationship but I really ended up liking her too. It's a great compliment to the writing skills of Tracy Wolff to bring these characters that on the surface seem so hard to get behind become some truly deep, wondering and amazing characters. This is a great start to a new series, can't wait to see where this goes.
