Thank you for the opportunity to review - I learned a lot from this book! It was quite understandable and will be a good reference.
This was the first cookbook I got when I purchased my Instant pot and I am so glad it was! It goes over all the functions of the Instant pot and is full of helpful tips and tricks. And the recipes and phenomenal too!
Very clever book. It breaks down every function of the Instant Pot. I like the format of this because you're getting the full functionality of the product. Maybe you won't ever use the yogurt maker, but now you'll know how. I already have a slow cooker, but this book makes me intrigued to at least experiment with this feature and not just use it for pressure cooking.
Honestly, this book felt a little too basic for me, as someone who has been using an IP for a couple of years now. It would probably have been more useful when I first got my IP, but even then a lot of the really basic info was in the manual that came with my pot -- especially since the functions on different pots vary. As for the recipes, they were fine, but nothing that felt that exciting to me. This book quickly fell to the wayside while I used other instant pot books or online recipes much more often.
I have been looking for a book that I can learn more about my instant pot. I love using it but prior to this book, I only made veggies and chicken. I had no idea all that I could use it for. Honestly, I was intimidated. The author teaches how to use the instant pot in an easy to read manner. The recipes are delicious and easy to make.
A good book for people who are new to cooking with the Instant Pot. More experienced cooks probably won't get as much use out of this, but I would recommend it to beginners.
A few months ago when the instant pot trend was at its peak I picked up this book to see if instant pot really had something new to offer.
The author has a pleasant style while the technical instructions are clear and seem like they would be helpful if I decided to buy one of these appliances.
Unfortunately the rest of the book did not inspire me to do so. Like so many appliance cookbooks the recipes are aimed at the beginner. I am not a beginner and most of the recipes seemed achievable with the appliances I already have in the kitchen.
On the plus side the cooking times given would be useful in a general sense even if you don’t make the exact recipe given and there were lots of pretty pictures.
This would be a good beginner’s book for those who feel the urgent need for an instant pot in their lives
I must apologise for not being able to review this book after you so kindly accepted my request. I have had an unfortunately challenging time, but am now free to resume reading and reviewing. I hope that you will not hold my difficulties against me in future requests
Like so many other working moms I'm always looking for something that will save me time. I don't eat meat so I wasn't sure the Insta Pot craze was going to be something for me. I requested this to see if there were vegetarian and desserts that could be done in the IP and I found there were.
I thought this book was well written and well layed out. It explains how the IP work and then has a bunch of great recipes. I thought this was really well done and would recommend it.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read/review this book! I will recommend this to family/friends.
This is a cookbook about pressure cooking, or the use of a pressure cooker. I must say that they have come a long way from when my father would use ours when I was growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. He usually only cooked meats and made sauerkraut in ours and that is what I learned. Now in this book the author takes you through how to make yogurt, risotto, chili and ziti to name just a few dishes that are mentioned and the recipes for these and many other dishes are inside this wonderful book along with easy follow to steps. A very good book.
I really loved this book. I have so many recipes I need to try now. I went right out and bought an instant pot to try them. The recipes are so easy to follow. The pictures were great and yummy looking. I really didn't know how much I could make with my instant pot. From pressure cooker settings to cook meat fast to making yogurt in this.
I was on the fence about buying an instant pot and this book really helped me make the leap. Especially nice for beginners but there are advances tips as well.
This book certainly contained a lot of recipes; however there was not much originality in many of the recipes. Most were too ordinary and while they sounded okay were easily prepared even without recipes. Gave it three stars though because of the quantity of recipes.
I would like to thank Workman Publishing Company for providing me with a free electronic ARC of this book, via Netgalley, in exchange for an open and honest review.
Okay, starting with my honesty… I don’t own an Instant Pot. I do have a slow cooker/ pressure cooker all in one from Philips I was sent a few years ago to review and I do so love it. Being a fan of slow cooking and the occasional pressure cooking, I still felt this would be an interesting and useful cookbook. It was. But, as said, I don’t have an Instant Pot and I went into reading and reviewing ‘How to Instant Pot’ knowing I was at a disadvantage to truly getting the most out of this book. My fault, not theirs and my rating is not based on this at all.
Saying all that, I could therefore be wrong when I say I felt this looked to be a pretty helpful and comprehensive cookbook for those who own an Instant Pot. I mean, for one thing it is a LOT more detailed and helpful than anything I have ever received, or found online, from Philips or from others on how to use my Philips All-In-One.
‘How to Instant Pot’ starts with a good introduction not only to this book itself, but also to how to USE your Instant Pot. Always important to know, when learning to use a new kitchen appliance. The details were clear precise, and came with good images when needed. It not only went over what the different physical parts of the Instant Pot were, but what the different settings it had did.
There are then different sections of recipes, tips and tricks for the different functions an Instant Pot has. Pressure Cooking, Slow Cooking, Steamer, Rice Cooker, etc… All laid out nice and neatly in clear to understand and following instructions with some pretty gorgeous images of certain meals lined up with their ingredients and methods.
I could not fault the overall format and layout. It was perfect for ‘how to’ cookbook of this nature. I have no idea what the paper format actually looks like, but I would love if it was in ring binder form for easy flip access throughout the different sections. But maybe that is just me?
If I loved it so much, why did I give such an average rating? Well, if I am honest, there just wasn’t a heck of a lot in ‘How to Instant Pot’ that I would make or eat… Not in the ways it instructs you to. But this is down to my own boring food allergies and intolerances, my family’s preference for how meals taste and, well, because I have been cooking similar recipes a certain way for 30 odd years and I can’t see the slight differences shown in ‘How to Instant Pot’ worth the change and possible dissent from my fussy kids and husband.
So, my averaging rating is due to personal reasons and not at all to do with the high quality of work displayed in ‘How to Instant Pot’. I am simply the wrong person for this book and the faults are all with me.
Would I recommend this book to others?
Yes I would. Admittedly I would mainly be saying to people they would really benefit from having an Instant Pot to get the very most out of this cookbook… but to be honest, anyone struggling to figure out how to use their new All-In-One and who can’t find decent help or cook books from the appliance maker (yes Philips, I am talking about YOU), I really do feel they may get some good help too.
Yes it won’t be EXACTLY the same or 100% helpful if they aren’t using an Instant Pot… but there is still a LOT of beneficial information, and helpful recipes within ‘How to Instant Pot’ that a Philips user may finally be able to get their All-In-One to work too.
Would I buy this book for myself?
Sadly, no. But again, I want to emphasise this is purely because I, personally, didn’t get a lot out of it. The fault lies with me the reader and not the book. It is a good book, just not a good match to me.
In summary: A good, in-depth look at how to use an Instant Pot, may be helpful in how to use other, similar, All-In-One appliances.
If you just got an Instant Pot, then this is the book for you! It explains in detail how the Instant Pot works (which the instruction manual leaves a complete mystery). The recipes were just okay but the book gave me what I really needed - an explanation of each and every feature of the Pot and how to best utilize them. As an experienced cook, I mostly make up my own recipes but I had some really failure with my Instant Pot simply because I programmed it incorrectly for the dis I was cooking. Since reading Shumski's book, this has not been an issue - and boy, does the Instant Pot save time!
A very good introduction to the Instant Pot with tasteful recipes.
This is a great tutorial book on the “how to” and “ins and outs” of using your instant pot and getting your cooking started. The recipes are mouth-watering delicious. This book sets you up and gets you a great running start to preparing the meals your family is looking for in an instant. It includes 100 recipes that are sure to get some attention from your loved ones. At least that is what we found in our family. Enjoy and bon appetit.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was offered this book as a free download, but unfortunaetly I have not received the download. I cannot therefore give a review
TITLE: Nothing new here and not as much fun as "Will It Waffle"
If you like Shumski's other books, like "Will It Waffle", you will probably enjoy this one. I found "Will It Waffle" to be a fun book to read, but over time, I've not used it much. This book is similar, but not quite as much fun. There are a LOT of Instant Pot cookbooks available, so this topic is just not as innovative as using a waffling technique to cook your favorite recipes.
Problem with this book, Shumski does not give us any new material: Same-old, same-old. Every single recipe is just a slight variation on a recipe you've seen before. He's just played the recipes with the Instant Pot technique. And he does not do a good job of it. These recipes seem to be off the cuff, rather than well-tested.
While I indulged myself with a Kindle version of "Will It Waffle", this one from Shumski does not tempt me at all.
*I received a temporary download of this cookbook from the publisher.
This is a good cookbook for owner of Instant Pots. The book starts with a short but powerful introduction to the Instant Pot. It is mostly common sense but there will probably be new things for most people (I learned that I was adding way too much water). There are also instructions for how to convert between slow cooker and pressure cooker recipes.
The recipes are healthier than most cookbooks but not as healthy as my favorites.
The recipes are pretty run of the mill and nothing to write home about.
All in all, a great book for those starting out with cooking on an instant pot (a great way too start), and probably one of the best instant pot cookbooks. On the other hand, if you have a dozen cookbooks you probably won't gain much from this one.
