The story had so much potential, but fell short for me. Jenny Proctor is a new author to me & even though this book wasn’t for me, I would try reading more by her in the future.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
It took me a long time to read this book. I'm not really sure why, but after finishing half of it in one day I wish I had finished reading it sooner!
A sweet story about family and relationships and the question, what happens if you might have fallen for the wrong brother?
Lane meets Jamie and his family at a pickup soccer game and they quickly start dating, but she's not sure what to do when she starts feeling a connection with Jamie's brother Simon.
Jenny Proctor has created fun characters who are all caring and kind people. It made the story more interesting because no one had bad intentions or was made out to be a bad person. As I got further into the story it kept me turning pages, looking forward to finding out what would happen next.
I am looking forward to reading more from Jenny Proctor!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Nice clean story of a girl, Lane, choosing between two brothers. A bit of Cyrano woven into the story line was my favorite part. Lane was a great character who broke the typical Mormon girl mould.
I absolutely loved this book!! Wrong for You is a sweet, fun romance that has fantastic writing.
Lane Bishop falls quickly for one of the very eligible, very chased-after Hamilton brothers. But it isn't long before she wonders if she's fallen for the wrong one. I loved Lane and her spunk, Jamie and his competitiveness, and Simon's consistency. I was hooked from the very beginning--when Lane challenges the boys in a soccer match. One of my favorite meet cutes to date! It had me smiling through the entire scene.
Highly recommended!
I've only read two books by Jenny Proctor. I've loved them both. You can be sure I'll be reading more.
Lane and her competitive ways get her involved in a soccer game with a family of brothers who are swoony and mostly spoken for. She, of course, attracts the attention of the I-don't-date-brother.
Only problem is that another brother is who she is also drawn to. Man, liking two men is complicated.
It is a fun story. I love the literary references. I was sooooo rooting for the brother that was the "obvious brother".
I spent a lovely three hours reading with a smile on my face.
Content: clean, kissing
Source: Netgalley for an honest opinion
I'll admit, when I first started this book I was afraid I wouldn't like the main character. She initially decides to pursue her love interest for rather shallow reasons. If this disuades you from reading, keep going! She (Lane) improves after the first chapter or two.
This is a great love-triangle story. I liked how the story was told from Lane's point of view but we had snippets of Jamie and Simon's side through text messages they sent to each other and their other brothers. I enjoyed the relationships in the story and how things were shown not told. It was a book I thought about for days after reading. While this is not deep literature, it was a fun, clean read that I would recommend to others.
Lane Bishop has just moved to a smaller town. She feels great that she won't be dating anyone and thinks that she can relax with her new job and just enjoy her own company. When girls from church show up and drag her to a soccer game to see the hottest guys in the church play soccer, Lane is baffled. Why were they going to show up, and watch, why now participate. Lane can't stand warming the bench so she goes and asks the 4 hot guys, the brothers if she could play. They turn her down. She won't take no for an answer so she joins the opposing team. Lane kicks some major butt and the brothers are defeated. Before leaving the field Lane rights down her number to be given to the youngest brother, the one who is single and she walks away. The girls are baffled that anyone would be that brave but lane just shrugs it off, at least until he calls her.
Lane really wants this guy to be the one, however, things just aren't feeling right. She feels like there is something missing.
The whole time in the background, she is the manager of an inn that is in financial trouble.
Lane has to make life changing decisions and she is the only one that can decide her future.
This book was a great read. It was funny and energetic and kept me reading. I gave it four stars because some parts were a bit longer than expected, but it was still a really good book. I look forward to reading more clean romance novels by Jenny Proctor in the future.
This was a fun and invigorating story about YSA(Young single adults) and navigating the dating scene as well as trying to survive in the world by securing a job and making a living doing what you love.
Lane loves soccer, playing for fun, competitively, you name it. She doesn't back down from a challenge and enjoys life to the fullest. She is a bi-racial young woman and has a zest for life and her religion. Everything she does, she does well and to the best of her ability. When she moves back closer to her childhood home for an event coordinator job at a small inn that she has loved since she was little, she isn't quite sure what is in store for her. Lots of ups and downs and new experiences await her. Now she must decide what her heart truly wants and if she is willing to take the leap to achieve it.
There's a bit of a love triangle here but not in the traditional sense of a love triangle. Is that confusing? I really want to explain that thought better but I really don't like giving spoilers. Maybe the best way to say it is think Cyrano de Bergerac. Or similar to that. Just a little hint, but not really, because it's different. Ugh. I'm not making much sense am I? Just read the book if you like great in-depth characters, love stories, strong and sweet characters and just all out good fun while reading!
I will say I loved one character so much! He was so thoughtful and kind, willing to give and give and give. That's about all you'll get from me on those love triangle people.
I'm way past being a young single adult but this did take me back to those college days of dating and hanging out with other single adults and the good friendships we made. I think anyone who is a young single adult, or an older single adult or a married adult, can enjoy this book. Fun and swoony!
I loved the writing style and the characters. I have read a short novella of Jenny Proctor's before and enjoyed it. But reading this full length novel was great. I didn't want to put it down! I will definitely be looking for more of her books.
Content: Clean. Some kissing. Some sweet and some a little more passionate but nothing further. Religious aspects, nothing preachy, the character is LDS and talks about going to church activities and allowing God to guide her.
I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!
This was a wonderful, fun read. I loved the interactions between the brothers, how they met, and how Lane fell. It was just an all around great read for me. I tend to devour books, and this one, I had to go back, reread, and savor the end. It was just a lovely read. Lane's job, her friendships, her relationships, and her family (loved the picture that was painted of them!), loved her character, and Jamie and Simon were wonderful characters. J.P. did a beautiful job with this story. I have to say she is one of my favorite author finds. The moments between Lane and the H (don't want to spoil the triangle!) were just lovely. I love honest, tender hearts, and this was a perfect read for me. I especially enjoyed all of the hints that were there. Lane's loyalty, and her desire to be true to the one brother, and how her heart and her friends and family kept telling her something else were well done. I loved seeing her thought processes, her struggles, and the hints that were dropped along the way.
Beautifully done. Well worth a read again just to savor this one!
This was the first book I have read by Jenny Proctor and have discovered a new favorite. I read through this one very quickly. I think it is mainly because I really loved the characters. Lane was a very relatable girl who was tired of the dating scene in Mormon singles wards. She catches the interest of one of the "untouchable" men in the area and quickly enjoys the attention. I thought Jamie and Simon were equally great catches but only one was a really good fit for Lane.
There is LDS/ Mormon content but I think anyone LDS or not will enjoy the story. I, being LDS, had no trouble picturing life of mormon singles. This was clean and romantic without having any content beyond kisses.
I loved it and need to find more by Jenny Proctor. These are really fun reads. You will quickly get caught up in the story and your whole afternoon will disappear!
Lane moves to North Carolina to start a job at the inn she loved so much as a child. She quickly starts dating Jamie and things are going great with him--but Lane doesn't realize that Jamie's older brother Simon is giving Jamie tips on how to woo Lane. When Simon, who is an accountant, helps out with things at the inn, and Lane finds herself drawn to him as well.
I liked how Lane is confident and strong; so often, women (both fictional and real) doubt themselves, while Lane didn't seem to struggle with that at all. I also enjoyed seeing Simon's depth and his dating advice would make any woman wish he was giving her significant other dating tips! The two things I was a little less sold on were the fact that Lane is multiracial but I don't know that felt authentic to me; she seemed a little whitewashed (but then again, I'm white and maybe not the best judge of that), and there's a situation where Simon pretends to be Lane's fiancé for a trip to meet her grandmother at Thanksgiving. While it was fun to see Simon and Lane in that situation, it didn't fit Lane's personality; she's strong and confident and opinionated and competitive--but she can't tell her family the truth about her relationships? There was some explanation of why she would do that, but I didn't feel like the motivation was as strong as it needed to be to make it override Lane's very strong personality. That said, I did like the book, and it's a fun, clean read.
3.5 stars.

This was such a charming romance! Some of the things I thought were wonderful:
*Lane was pretty awesome. She was a black-puerto-rican-southern-morman, and I have not read any other books with a heroine who fits that description. She was also family orientated, a great friend, a hard worker, very bright, very strong, competitive, and she read books! She is definitely someone I would like to be friends with, and that made me totally care what happened to her.
*I loved the Hamilton brother dynamic. They played off each other quite well, and would tease and taunt, but underneath it all was so much genuine affection. I wanted more of them together in this book.
*I liked how Proctor gave us a different POV. The majority of the book is told from Lane's POV, however, at the end of each chapter, we got a peek at the epic text thread that existed between the Hamilton boys. It was there, that we got to spend a little time in their heads, and I thought that was a nice touch, which absolutely added to the story.
*Both families were pretty awesome too, and I really enjoyed those trips home to meet the parents. They were a lot of fun.
*Speaking of fun, the general tone of this book is fun, which is my favorite kind of romance. I didn't want angst or tears. I wanted fun and light with some heart, and that is exactly what I got. There were some really hilarious moments, but also some really beautiful moments.
*I sort of loved Simon from the start. You should always keep your eye on the quiet ones. He was a perfect romantic hero, and the things he said and did totally made me swoon.
Overall: A sweet romance with a family focus, which was fun and it left me feeling happy.
I was a bit disappointed in this book. The plot summary is both Hamilton brothers like the same girl, but Simon is in a long term relationship. So, Lane begins dating Jamie, who has a one track mind--soccer and his career. He doesn't see the little things that Lane enjoys like the numerous poetry books on her shelf or her favorite childhood boyband CD sitting in her car. But Simon does and he tells his brother these small clues, he noticed while helping Lanes boss sort out their financial woes.
The books formatting made reading this book confusing. There are very few paragraph breaks between dialogue and text messages which confuses the reader on who is speaking. Jamie's character is flat, he has zero depth, although, that could be the point of why there are issues between the three characters. All the characters needed more depth and they never really felt believable. The book needs more editing and revising to flush the characters out more and to correct the typos and formatting issues.
What a fun read! I didn't want to put the book down. I loved the characters in this book. I loved the setting, family dynamics, pretty much everything. It sucked me in.
I think the author had me from the soccer scene. Lane is new in town and when the girls drag her to a soccer match, she isn't content to watch. When Jamie insults her and won't let her play on the team with his brothers, Lane joins the opposing team.
Boom. I love that Lane is confident in who she is and what she can do. She is feisty, smart, flirty, and feminine. I loved that she saw a situation and found a way to make it work. Her personality grew on me even more as I read the book.
I don't normally like love triangle books, but this was better than most. I will definitely recommend this to my friends!
