Very good book, gives lots of information about the benefits of meditation...gratitude and much more!
Those who are interested in, or already integrating some mindfulness into their daily lives, may want to give this title a read. The author is interested in helping people to move past mindfulness, even though he found the practice to be very helpful. He sees this book as a resource for those who are beginning to look for something more. The author has studied both mindfulness and psychology and has pondered these approaches.
Honestly, I found this one a bit difficult to understand and connect with. I found the language to be somewhat obfuscating. That may be because I have not read his earlier works.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
I was a bit lost. Having not read the first book and only being a beginner in meditation, I felt like a kid who missed the first semester of class.
I found this study on mindfulness very helpful. There were many exercises that were new mindfulness tactics for me. I have tried multiple times to meditate unsuccessfully so I appreciated some new techniques.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book had an interesting premise. Undoetunately for me it turned out to be a read that was a little over my head still in my mindfulness journey. Still, i found great ideas and philosophies within this work that i can put into practice in my own life.
At the moment I will only give a rating to the book and I hope it is possible for me to write down my reviews on Amazon. Barnes and Noble and Goodreads. I am very grateful to you because your publications are great, especially in the topics that interest me most. Thanks and blessings.
Enjoyed the basic no-frills approach to mindfulness. I enjoyed that it was a really "western" approach to the jhana state. Bodian really caters to the westerner in the first half of this book with solid advice for daily psychological tricks one can employ who doesn't want to spend a lifetime delving deep into their subconscious to achieve awakening. The second half is more intense and provides more content for deeper meditations and teachings.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested in the topic or looking for meditations.
There is a plethora of books about mindfulness and finding inner peace. Beyond Mindfulness offers some shortcuts to the more common advice to meditate for a while to find that peace. Rather, it offers ways to realize that this moment, in which you are, is the perfect moment. So that you truly experience the best life has to offer, and find that peace which eludes so many of us.
In Beyond Mindfulness, Stephen Bodian gives pointers and guided meditations to move a practitioner beyond the basics of a mindfulness practice. In the introduction, he proclaims that this book is accessible for anyone, whether or not you have a regular practice. However, I found that the concepts and ideas build off instructions and experiences of meditation and I think it would be difficult to put these ideas into play if you haven't had some prior experience. The basis of the book is that people can become complacent in a meditation practice and use meditation as a crutch, be focused on self as a witness and maintain a separateness that prevents true "awareness". His terminology for the next step is "awakened awareness" and while the concepts are interesting and the meditations are a start, like much of mindfulness in general, putting these ideas into practice are a lot of trial and error. It is a good addition to a library for practitioners of mindfulness who feel like they are in a rut or enjoy their practice and would like to level up.
If there's anything you ever wanted to know about the practice of mindfulness, this book has got every single aspect covered! It's laid out in a really well-structured format, with a useful introductory chapter followed by seven main chapters, each consisting of teachings and explanations of that element of mindfulness, guided mediations with bits of dialogue in italics, and exercises in greyed-out text boxes. There are also questions at the end of chapters to consolidate what you have learned and to get you thinking.
This is a great starter guide to mindfulness, however I would recommend it more for people who are truly passionate about the idea and intend to incorporate it into their everyday lives, as to oppose to those that just have a casual interest. This is because the text can be quite 'wordy' and heavy at times, and requires quite a bit of peace and tranquility to be able to absorb all of the teachings as they are. For that reason I rated this four stars instead of five.
I liked the approach of this book. It was very interesting and I think it has a lot to teach. Unfortunately, I still feel like I am at the beginning of my path and hence would recommend this book to someone who has a basic grasp of mindfulness.
I have read a lot of books on mindfulness and meditation and this is one of the better ones that I have read. It is a fairly short book, for me it gave just the right amount of information. I was never bored while reading this. Bodian does a good job of describing the more direct way he has found to lasting peace. I have been trying mindfulness for a while and still struggle with it. I found this to be an easier approach. I think it is a great book for everyone, but someone who has been working on meditation or mindfulness for a while I think will get more out of it.
It's nice to read a book for a change which does not promote mindfulness as being the cure for all ills. I'm not sure I'm 100% on board with all the Author's suggestions but the possibilities he puts forth are definitely worth thinking about. I like the fact that the practices that are talked about do not require hours and hours of devotion but are part of something that our bodies/minds can do naturally.
