I've read several books by Iris Johansen and have enjoyed them all. His books are easy to follow and very fast paced. Many times I had to stop reading and didn't want to. I highly recommend this book and anything else that he's written.
Every Iris Johansen novel I've read always end up being my favorite. I love the way she spins a story full of suspense and ends it with a shocking twist towards the end. I love every moment, page, word within this book.
The Eve Ducan series is a new favorite of mine. MIND GAME is book 22 in the series and pulls focuses to Jane MacGuire and Seth Caleb. I love when Iris Johansen lets other characters take the front seat for a book, allowing Eve enough time to breathe.

Another great edition to the Eve Duncan series. This one revolves around Jane and Caleb. Jane finds Cira’s treasure and Jane finally commits to Caleb.
The strong suspense and sharp romantic tension reminds me why I enjoy this author. My rating 4.25.
Jane MacGuire is a strong young lady and a gifted artist. Not only can she draw what she sees, she can also draw what she dreams. For years she had dreams about an ancient Roman woman, Cira. Now they are close to finding Cira’s hidden treasure back in Scotland with her friends.
Recently Jane has had new dreams – a young woman in trouble is reaching out to her. Jane is just the type of person who must try to help no matter the danger.
Seth Caleb is a dark, mysterious man who has a strange impact on Jane. She has tried to keep him at a distance but is pretty sure that at some point they will collide, if not combust. Seth is on hand to help with the treasure hunting. He quickly realizes that Jane is disturbed by something and he wants to find out what so he can help her. The mystery deepens as it becomes clear that the girl is reaching out to Jane because of Seth.
I admit that it has been quite a few years since I have read Iris Johansen and the Eve Duncan series. I was immediately drawn by the characters even as I Seth reminded me of an earlier dark, mysterious and sexy character - Sean Galen in The Search. Johansen does a wonderful job of building sexual tension leading to a scene that is tasteful and adds to rather than distracts from the mystery plot.
The plot is twisted with dark skills and people who want to control and use the skills for their own greed and evil plans. The story moves at a good pace. I did roll my eyes a few times as Jane walks herself into danger, but it rather fits her headstrong character. I enjoyed how Eve and Joe were a supportive part of the story.
I collected and read this author’s titles from 1990 through 2008 which took me through Book 7 in the Eve Duncan series. (I didn’t stop because I didn’t like them, I just got busy with blogging and reading many new authors. I was glad to enjoy an older favorite author.) Having read the early books in the series helped me to know these characters better although the author does give some introductory background on the connections and personalities. I am inclined to think this would read fine if picked up as a stand-alone. I am pleased to find that Ms. Johansen has not lost her knack at writing strongly engaging thriller with nice romantic tension. I recommend this author, the series and this book.

Scotland holds a treasure that Jane MacGuire has been hunting for years. But as she scours the Highlands in search of it, she’s plagued by dreams of a girl in danger—dreams she can’t ignore no matter how hard she tries. Who is this girl, and what is she trying to tell Jane? And will Jane figure it out before it’s too late—for her and the mysterious young woman?
Things are further complicated when Seth Caleb comes back into Jane’s life. Their history is volatile to say the least. This time Jane finds herself pulled unexpectedly into his world as she fights to save him. But Caleb isn’t the only person sweeping her up into startling developments. When Eve Duncan surprises Jane with news of her own, Jane comes face to face with stunning changes in the lives of those she loves most.
I would think that after 22 of these books I would be smarter. That I wouldn't get dragged back with a shiny cover and a well-written blurb. That I would remember the last one I read and remember thinking that Iris Johansen was fast becoming the female James Patterson - and that isn't a positive comparison...
And it's not like the plot is terrible - there is a really good idea at the heart of this novel...
...but...
...it is just so poorly executed. I won't harp on it but the comparison to James Patterson is really relevant here: poor dialogue, cardboard cutouts of characters, mind-numbing explanations rather than actions, ridiculously unnecessary "supernatural" angle...
Uggghhh, that will do. Not a fan. Hope I remember not to read another one.

I will start with, you need to read the previous books in this series to really 'get' the whole book. If you've read the previous books, this is a no brainer because you will want to revisit these characters! Jane is in Scotland searching for 'her' treasure. This book focuses on her but does bring in a lot of the characters from the other books so you can catch up a bit with them.
There is a lot going on in this book and I really enjoyed the way it pulled me in and didn't let go. Jane and Seth both have different issues going on and there is action in all of it. There is a lot of paranormal/psychic throughout and it just intrigues me!
It was a 4/5. I still enjoy this series.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I really wanted to like this one so much more than I did. So much happened in this book. So much. It just took soooo long for it to get going. It was supposed to be a Jane focused book, and it was, but many of our favorite characters make an appearance in this one. If you aren't caught up with the rest of the series, you may want to catch up. Some story lines get tied up, some get furthered, you get introduced to a new character right off the bat. It was a good story overall. I don't want to say what I liked for fear of spoiling the major events occuring in the book!
Mind Game, book 22 in Iris Johansen's Eve Duncan Thriller series is a riveting thriller featuring Jan McGuire. This is a thrilling novel with a paranormal twist. I enjoy the authors attention to detail with character development and thrilling page turning story.. This is a book you cannot put down. I loved it and highly recommend the entire series.
Thank you for the ARC which did not influence my review.
Ok, this is a book that has been a long time coming. Caleb first book was Blood Game (which I just realized that his two books now, both have game in the title!) which is like book #10 vs. this is book 22. Well, there was also the 2013 Eve Trilogy, which she had the choice of Caleb or Trevor, chose Trevor, and then he was killed. But now she's healed, and now it's her and Caleb's story!
In this book, we're introduced to Caleb's sister, as in, the one that wasn't killed, and his reason for wanting revenge in Blood Game. I really enjoyed her, and I really hope we'll see more of her in future books, she was so interesting!
For me, there were 3 parts of this story, the beginning where they had to do a rescue, the middle where they were all together, and then the end, where things are all up in the air, and they have a way of getting Caleb to do what they want him to do.
The relationship between Caleb and Jane has grown by leaps and bounds. They work through a lot of the issues that they have, and while other things were going on, like why they're in this situation, and the treasure, finally, but yeah, their relationship was a big deal, and I loved how that all wrapped up!
This book was so fantastic, and I can't wait for more of this amazing series!
A typical Eve Duncan story. I enjoy them but not as much as in the beginning. Not the first author I turn to any longer
I enjoyed this book. I do, however think that it needs to be fixed on e-retailers, where it is being called an Eve Duncan book, since this is a Jane book.
It's been awhile since I picked up an Eve Duncan book (though this one is actually more of a Jane McGuire book). The nice thing about this series, is that even if you've missed previous books in the series, you can always jump right in. This story also brings about some resolution AND evolution in the story that is Jane and Seth Caleb.
This book makes me feel all discombobulated. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I loved catching up with where they all are right now (I adore little Michael). I'm just very over the redundancy that is them explaining how they all feel about each other. Every single character has to spend multiple pages with multiple mentions as to how they would do anything for so and so and why.
However, I loved seeing Jane and Caleb evolve and I really loved Jane totally "getting" him. He's found his person; he kind of thinks that he has, he's just not all the way there yet. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Glad I finally picked up one of her books and give it a try, because now I want to read more of this series. Thinks NetGalley for helping me to decide if I want to give her a try or not , in change for my honest opinion.
Mind game by Iris Johansen.
Wow this was a page turner. It was great to see janes character in the front seat and it was nice to see eve still around. Jane has been plagued by dreams of a girl she has never met before only she feels as though she knows her. She draws scenes of what she has seen in her dreams. Who is this girl? What is she trying to tell jane? I loved the supernatural side of the story. Aswell as the danger side too. I couldnt put this down read in two settings. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. 5*. Netgalley and st martin's press.
Mind Game
By Iris Johansen
In Iris Johansen’s latest novel, Mind Game, Jane MacGuire, Eve Duncan’s adopted daughter is back along with a stellar cast of other characters. Jane is being plagued by a dream of a young lady who is apparently in trouble. The dreams are reminiscent of the ones she had when she was younger of Cira, the actress who lived centuries before. Only this time, the young lady is in trouble now and seems to be able to reach Jane because of Jane’s connection with Seth Caleb, the enigma who can control the flow of blood in the people near him. When Seth and Jane attempt a rescue, what will happen? And why do they have the young lady anyhow?
I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and had some mystery, some intrigue, and some romance. The only problem I seem to find with Johansen’s books is that all of her female characters seem to possess the same strengths and ideas (even though they may have different abilities). I am all for strong females, but we are not all alike. I would love to see a character with a different attitude or way of looking at life than her normal female character. That being said, it was nice in this book to see Eve, Margaret, Joe, MacDuff, and the others who have become part of Eve’s family. It was also interesting to see the dreams of Cira finally come to have a solid meaning for Jane.
I would recommend this book to anyone who like’s Johansen’s books or anyone who just may be ready for something new. You don’t have to have read the others that came before it to understand what is going on, although it does help for background information.
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review from NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
I received a free copy from NetGalley. I think I am done with this series. Too many characters now with "special" talents. This book finally brings several of them together and ends some of the long running story lines that have run through several other books. The story line isn't bad, but I have a hard time believing in the special talents that are so necessary for the plot to work.
Iris Johansen continues the complex paranormal thrillers with Jane McGuire who is pursuing a girl she has been drawing from nightmares. Lisa, as she calls her, is the sister of Caleb, Jane's bete noir. As they untangle the deadly intrigues to rescue Lisa and keep everyone alive under terrorist threats, their friends hunt for a Roman treasure in the Scottish highlands. Satisfying suspence and exciting resolution to the mysteries.
Another thriller with Eve Duncan and her daughter Jane. This one continues to veer into the supernatural, with Jane’s dreams, Caleb’s strange blood powers, Michael’s unknown abilities, and Cira’s Treasure.
With the latest in the Eve Duncan series, we move forward with Jane playing the biggest part as the lead heroine this time, but we still see plenty of Eve, Joe and other characters we've come to know and love during the series. It's an interesting spin on the story and we have a couple of different plot twists going off simultaneously throughout the book. There were parts that drug a little bit, but overall, it kept my attention and gave us a thrilling excursion into their world!
Jane MacGuire is drawn back to Scotland to continue the search for the lost treasure she's been involved with for a few years now, but amidst that drama, she's having dreams about a young woman who she thinks is in danger. She's running herself ragged trying to figure out why this girl has reached out to her and how in the world she can help her when Seth Caleb steps back into her life. The attraction she feels for him mixed with the conflicting relationship they share always sets her off balance. This time it's him in need of help ... and Jane will do anything in her power to help him like he has helped her family in the past!
