Being an animal lover I enjoyed this book. The earthquake setting and the background of the two leads were quite interesting. However, I felt the leads didn't spend much quality time together and were lacking chemistry. The ending felt a little rushed.

You Make Me Tremble by Karis Walsh is a contemporary romance. Animal rescue worker Iris Mallery thinks she has created a stable and secure home for herself, but when her small town is battered by an earthquake, Iris needs to rebuild not only her own life, but the lives of the displaced dogs and cats now filling her shelter. The quake’s effects are personal for Iris, but not for seismologist Casey Radnor. Casey is a scientist above all else, logical and disconnected from the natural disasters she studies. When she rescues a stray dog from some rubble, she finds herself caught up in the lives of Iris and the others affected by the quake, despite her best efforts to remain professional. The beautiful San Juan Islands in Washington State become the epicenter of both the earthquake and the collision of Iris and Casey’s hearts. Can love bind the shattered fragments together again?
You Make Me Tremble is a book with lots of promise. Iris and Casey think they are so very different, but I found that at the center they are very much the same. Both have less than perfect childhoods and spend most of their time either trying to deal with or avoid the issues that that have as a result. I liked the honesty and maturity that they show in actually discussing their problems for the most part. I loved the emotional growth and the role the animals and secondary characters on the island play. However, I felt like at one point Iris and Casey went from zero to sixty with very little warning, and then back again. I will say that the backing off was completely expected and fit with the character's personalities perfectly- as did the reactions and actions there after. I am not sure what it was, but despite the solid characters, I just never really connected with them or felt all that invested in the story. I think that was more about me than the book though, since I cannot point out any fault in the writing or story that prevented that connection.
You Make Me Tremble is a book that I was very excited to read. The premise and characters promised a great read. While it was well done, I just never really connected with the characters and felt I was told rather than shown the issues and conflicts they had. Perhaps I was just not in the right headspace to read it, which sometimes happens. I liked the book, but it did not rock (ha!) my world like I expected.

I was unable to review this book because of a conflict in my schedule. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused the publisher or the author of the work. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review for you and I look forward to reviewing for you in the future.

It is a nice story that fits the romance formula to a T. Girl meets girl, there is conflict with attraction, which ultimately leads to romance. There are a few extra complications thrown in for good measure, but as with all good romance novels there is a happy ending not just for the people in the story but also for the four-legged characters too.

Cute story of a seismologist and a graphic designer / animal rescuer. The two share a handful of random encounters that lead them to fall in love.

This was a lovely romance set in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington state. It centers on seismologist Casey Radnor who comes to the islands to study the effects of a recent earthquake and Iris Mallery, an animal shelter owner who lives on one of the islands. When they meet, Iris is irritated by Casey's enthusiasm about an event that left her community battered, but there is an immediate attraction, as well. The two characters are both slightly damaged from lonely childhoods, leading to some of the obstacles/tense moments between the two. I would have liked to see the supporting characters developed more. I was intrigued by pub owner Jazz and wanted to know her story. Overall, a sweet, enjoyable romance.

This was a lovely novel, of the growing romance between a seismologist and an animal rescue worker on some small islands recently hit by an earthquake. Attraction AND dislike at first sight, the two eventually overcome their issues, find common ground, friendship... and allow their attraction to grow into geniune feelings. My fave kinda romance, honestly, SUCH a great trope and Walsh played with it really well.
It didn't just focus on the romance, giving some interesting scenes in both womens' line of work - how important it was to their characters really made both of them feel genuinely fleshed out and interesting, it really helped with investment - Walsh made their lives together AND apart come to life.
The novel was well rounded - the plot of their romance was dominant, but the descriptions of the setting were gorgeous - the novel as a whole felt full of life, rather than flat and claustrophobic like many romance novels can. Definitely enjoyed it, and would love to read more from Walsh.

The book was good, it was a slow pick up, but definitely worth reading. Took me a while to finish but definitely did it.. Good story line, writing style, just a little slow.

A refreshing read which didn't follow the exact formula but still has a loveable connection between animal shelter owner Iris and travelling seismologist Casey.
What follows is a blend of the angst you find as a standard but crafted in a genuine way.

Iris Mallory is an owner of an animal rescue center. Casey Radnor is an employee of the University of Washington and is engaged in the study of earthquakes. A major earthquake has hit the islands off of Washington State and Casey has been sent to the San Juan Islands to study the effects of the earthquake on the islands.
Iris and Casey meet on the boat from the mainland. There is instant attraction as well as personality clashes. Ms. Walsh has developed two very strong characters who are passionate for their respective careers. Because of the earthquake Iris is overwhelmed by the number of lost and abandoned animals. In addition to having to take care of a lot of animals, her rescue center needs major repair. Casey’s character is a scientist who sees the world in logical order and loves to talk about geology. As one might expect, Iris and Casey fall in love.
You Make Me Tremble is a sweet romance. I recommend this book and rate it 4 stars out of five stars.
I was given this ARC in return for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoy Walsh as a writer. I have 5 previous works of hers, and typically really enjoy her books. This one was not my favorite. It wasn’t bad, but I struggled to get into the characters. I would find myself reading, and realize I read the words but didn’t absorb anything. I would then reread the paragraph and do the same a few more times each sitting. It took me way longer than it should have to complete this book. I didn’t feel as if they really connected. For me it was just okay, but the beginning was the most difficult. If you are struggling at the start, keep going it gets better as it goes. If you are a fan of her other works, it is still worth the read.

I try to get a little further along into these stories before giving up and packing it in, but by chapter three I knew I had reached my interest limit. I gave it a chance, I mean there's a dog on the cover, how bad could it be?
The two leads meet and the title is drawn from a massive earthquake that hits some small islands along the Pacific Northwest. For whatever reason, the author chooses to tell us about this earthquake rather than describe it and let us as readers experience it along with the characters. So this inciting incident of an earthquake, the very fabric of the story, occurs completely off page and prior to the events of the story. Very odd choice.
Once more on the two leads--all I really know of them, I think, is their hair color and maybe relative lengths? I'm sure there was probably also a descriptor of fitness level, but you'll excuse me for glossing over it as nearly every lesfic story I've read describes their characters as regularly running 5 miles a day with toned everything--they all tend to run together for me at this point. Anyway, they see each other from afar and instantly fall in lust, that is until the dog rescue one takes umbrage with the earthquake researcher as though she just heard the woman was a Nazi "scientist". The reaction is so far over the top and seems to come from left field--yet both these women continue to think about and lust after each other even though one of them is quite obviously insane. Right about here is where I decided I really don't care where these two go, nor will I enjoy any of the ride as they get there.

This book ended up getting lost in the shuffle of my to-read list. I finally got around to it, and I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't one of my favorites. Animal rescuer Iris Mallery prefers being alone with the animals she cares for and a handful of friends in her small community, but when seismologist Casey Radnor comes along, the earthquake isn't the only thing shaking Iris up. Something about these two stir each other up, but their growing attraction may not be enough to overcome their differences and quick tempers.
I appreciated Walsh's descriptions, and she's very thorough with the details and the storytelling. I just couldn't get into it. I skimmed parts but was interested in what happened to the two main characters, and I liked the supporting characters. I'm definitely not put off of Walsh's writing, I'll just have to keep searching for the right fit. I've already got a couple more lined up in the to-read list.

This story was a slow burner but really had me rooting for Iris and Casey. Iris runs an animal shelter on a small island near Seattle and finds her life thrown into disarray by an earthquake. Seismologists Casey comes to the island to make recordings and observations in the hope of giving earlier warnings to residents in the future . They are instantly attracted but keep rubbing each other the wrong way. I enjoyed finding out how they dealt with their attraction and how their lives impacted the settled ways they had been living. The island setting and geological background fascinating. There were some beautiful romantic and passionate moments as well as some heartbreak. Karis Walsh has the wonderful ability to convince the reader that true love really does exist. She certainly made me believe it in this lovely, sweet story.
I was given this ARC by Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books in return for an honest review.

Lesbians and dogs - I really can't ask for much more. I thought this book was a bit of a slow starter but really what the author was doing was buildig a solid foundation which made this book significantly more believable than some other lesbian fiction can be at times. Once it got going I couldn't put it down - the characters were believable and not "perfect" and I adored each and every animal that made an appearance. I will definitely read this author again.

This is my first book by Karis Walsh but I know it wont be the last! I'm delighted that she has sooooo many books for me to explore!
Casey is a seismologist, heading to the San Juan islands for some fieldwork after an earthquake devastates the island. On the ferry on the way to the island she clashes with local animal rescuer Iris. The two cross paths again a few days later as they both struggle with the aftermath of the earthquake. The two begin a friendship which turns into something much more.
I love that this book introduce me to a new part of the world I literally had no idea existed! My mind is blown! I have a new travel destination for sure when I visit the west coast!
The characters were extremely likeable. Casey and Iris were just lovely human beings which let me enjoy the friendship and their attraction and their romance without any reservations. I loved that. Even the animals had their own personalities and contribute to the story in their own adorable way.
Also I have to say that I enjoyed the unique jobs that Casey and Iris had, it was a refreshing change from your basic Lawyer/Businesswoman/Doctor/Cop scenarios.
It was a simple lovely read, a traditional feel-good romance, a perfect way to spend an afternoon!
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've read many books by Karis Walsh and I'm pleased this book lived up to my expectations. I found this book to be a really laid back romance and one you couldn't help but like.
The two main characters Iris a animal rescuer and Casey a seismologist. Despite their very different jobs I feel they are very much a like. Both very caring people who just show the caring ways differently. There are several secondary characters which do add to the story. The animals without are the stars especially the twins and Chert.
The story is that Casey is sent to the San Juan Islands in Washington State to monitor and evaluate the earthquake they had just suffered. Iris owns an animal rescue centre on the island and obviously the island is suffering from the tragedy with many animals homeless. They initially meet on the ferry and lets say it doesn't go so well with Iris taking offense of Casey observing the damage for study. Casey finds a dog entangled in a fishing net and frees him and takes him to the rescue centre. Ends with Casey and Iris falling in love but Casey's rescue dog gets returned to his family. I guess if you are an animal lover you will really relate to how Iris and Casey bond, if not I guess you'll find it tedious. I loved the way Waslh incorporated the animals into the story and how the two characters bonded over them.
It is a really nice story. I definitely would recommend this book. If you like Walsh you will love this.

You Make Me Tremble by Karis Walsh
Two women meet on the ferry and are attracted to one another but clash before the ferry docks. Iris O’Malley, animal rescuer, is a resident on the island that Casey Radnor, seismologist, has been sent to study after an earthquake has hit the area. With one thing leading to another the two spend quite a bit of the time Casey is on the island clashing, sharing and caring. They find they have much in common in some ways but that they are quite different in others. The main dilemma is trust and whether or not there is a way for them to meet their professional needs while moving forward together. I like animals so loved the many animals shared in this story. I enjoyed learning more about the San Juan Islands, seismology and even a bit about creating greeting cards. This is my first book by this author but doubt it will be my last. In some ways I can see this as the first book in a series that would star the residents of Friday Harbor.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books, Inc. for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars

A sweet romance involving coming to terms with the past. Iris and Casey both had lonely childhoods but learned acceptance, sharing and how opposites can be very good for each other.
The descriptions of the islands and Caseys explanations of geological finds were very helpful to set the sense of emotion in the book.
I quick, sweet, predictable story.

Ms. Walsh is one of my preferred authors in the genre, specifically due to her tendency to develop deeply meaningful story lines with characters whose shared affections are not hastily established. I enjoyed "Mounting Danger" immensely when it was released and have since read the entirety of her published library. In keeping with animal-centric themes, Casey and Iris's relationship evolved around the realities of dwelling in a natural disaster prone area and the complexity of rescue efforts, with associated shelter operations. However admirable the premise, though, the novel was quite slow to start and did not gain the traction that I sought until more than half way through. Secondary plot points absorbed the focus on the romantic, which was slightly dissatisfying. I hoped for more, but was left palliated by the ending.
