A good guide and reference to have on hand if you're interested in lucid dreaming. I found it easy to follow.

Sorry for the delayed review. I have been working this year to catch up on my netgalley backlog. I appreciate the opportunity to read this book.

This book taught me a lot about lucid dreaming techniques that I did not know. It really helped me to break through and make progress in leaps and bounds. If you are having trouble with lucid dreaming trying this out maybe just the trick for you!

Llewellyn's Guides are always informative and comprehensive and this one is no different. If you've ever wondered anything about lucid dreaming this is a good source and I'd recommend it for sure.

An interesting read. I wish I could do lucid dreaming, but something always stops me.

At the moment I will only give a rating to the book and I hope it is possible for me to write down my reviews on Amazon. Barnes and Noble and Goodreads. I am very grateful to you because your publications are great, especially in the topics that interest me most. Thanks and blessings.

Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Lucid Dreaming, by Clare R. Johnson, was published earlier this month. I was given an advance review copy of this book via Netgalley.

It was a slow read for me, owing mostly to a busy schedule, but much worth the time. The book bills itself as a succinct and complete introduction to the concept of lucid dreaming, it’s usefulness, and methods towards achieving it.

I initially picked up the review copy of this book out of pure curiosity. Lucid dreaming is something I’ve certainly experienced and played with before, but it’s far from a cornerstone of my spiritual practices. Still, I can see it being useful to a lot of witches like myself, and I wanted to know more from an expert.

` The author is well-versed in the research and theory of lucid-dreaming. It’s very surprising, to me, to learn that researchers in laboratory settings have conclusively proven its existence! I hadn’t known so much scientific research had been done!

I was quite intrigued by some of her anecdotes about her own lucid dreaming experiences, many of which are a great testament to her creativity. They really give you a sense of what’s possible in the dreamscape, and plenty of cool ideas for enjoying yourself once you “wake up” in your dreams.

I was a bit put off by a couple of the techniques described. Some seem risky, like drinking a bunch of water before bed (nobody wants to have an accident, after all)! I also thought that, at times, the author overstates the usefulness of dream work.

While lucid dreaming is fun, generally useful, and quite conducive to spiritual practices, I wouldn’t see it as a replacement for self-work in the physical realm. While the author makes this clear, some of the achievements she suggests are possible with lucid dreaming do stretch credibility! Perhaps I need more practice, though.

Her tricks for recognizing when you’re dreaming are pretty intense, and useful. I’ve toyed with lucid dreaming extensively prior to reading this book, but half of the ideas she mentioned for reality checks were utterly new to me!

Some of the methods described for handling nightmares were also novel and very clever. I myself don’t have as much experience with this, as I rarely have nightmares. If someone comes to me with that issue, though, I might recommend this book!

While, as I said, this is a useful topic for witches to study, it isn’t something I’d see as limited to those with a magical worldview. This book occasionally verges into that direction, but most of what the author has to say will be applicable to anyone curious about dreaming, regardless of their worldview or beliefs.

I would recommend this book for those interested in lucid dreaming from both a seasoned and beginner perspective. I also think it’d be a useful introduction to those who are just curious about how it works and wondering if the concept has any validity.

The author goes into great detail, after all, about formal research that has been done into the subject, and it’s great for explaining to someone that yes, there’s something to all this dreamstuff!

If you’d like to pick up your own copy, it is available both on the publisher’s site, and on Amazon. Overall, I give this book four of five stars.

Lucid dreaming

When I first saw this book listed with NetGalley, I was eager to read it. From as far back as I can remember, when I have a really bad nightmare, I’m able to tell myself it’s just a dream and wake myself up. It’s really hard to get myself awake but sometimes it’s all that saves me in the moment lol. Well, at least in the dream. In the past 5-10 years, after sleeping enough hours to be rested, seems I’m semiconscious and dreaming at the same time. I love when this happens. I can mold my dream to what I need, as in solving a problem. Or as in dreaming about my dad who past away, I feel I can connect with him. Although I’ve read this fascinating book, I plan on going back and “studying” it. I had never told people about waking myself up or these lucid dreams for fear they would think me crazy. I feel this book touches on a world of possibilities, the best being that we can maybe heal ourselves emotionally from a traumatic event in our past or what may seem a hopeless situation in the present.

I really don't know what to say about this book other than it really teaches you everything about Lucid Dreaming. I didn't know much about it when I started other than it's a way to 'wake up' in your dreams and control them. There is so much in this book that I can't even cover it all but I will say that if you are looking for some info on this type of thing, then this book is the perfect place to start! It has everything you need to get your going. It's kind of mind blowing the stuff it contains.

*Thanks NetGalley for this book in exchange for an honest review*
