A POWER couple without the power or being a couple. I truly loved this story by Shayla and Carson and Ella are on the list of one of my favorite partners in a fictional environment. They owned being supportive, consoling, and appreciative. They actually listened to one another and made things happen off the knowledge in which they acquired. This book and storyline was just fantastic.
Really enjoyed reading Carson & Ella's story. Carson has inherited is late fathers company but it's not doing well and he needs help from his competition but there is of course stipulation that he has to marry his daughter. Carson and Kendra do not want to marry each other so Carson comes up with a plan. Carson & Ella chemistry is off the charts and their sex is smokin hot. You can't help but feel for Carson & Ella and want them to find their HEA. An amazing story with amazing characters that had me hooked from page one.
InstaLUST straight into instaLOVE!
Carson is marrying a woman he isn't in love with. Don't worry. She isn't in love with him either. He's doing this in order to please her father so he will help him out with his company. It gets down to the nitty gritty and he knows he just CAN'T go through with the marriage, so he comes up with a spur of the moment alternative plan that involves an actress he met months back that he can't stop thinking about.
Ella is an actress in a bit of a slump. She isn't the conventional beauty that Hollywood is after, but that doesn't mean she isn't beautiful. When Carson calls her she lights up. Of course she remembers the handsome man she met a few months back at a party. OF COURSE she's willing to take an acting job to help him trick his boss. Little does she know that once she's in Carson's arms she won't have to act and it won't feel like a job!
In Misadventures of a Backup Bride Shayla Black provides a fun and steamy contemporary romance. If you like instalust and love with lots of smutty bits, then this read is for you. I really enjoyed this story and how much these characters really feel for each other. I think some people may dislike the end results of this story, but honestly sometimes you choose to sacrifice for love. In this instance and this story, I feel like it worked. I'm actually intrigued by one of the side characters stories as well. I realize this probably won't become a series, but the author did a great job making other characters appealing and matter even in such a quick read!
This book will be available October 17th!
** I received an Advanced ARC for an honest review from Netgalley.
WOW! This books was fast paced and HOT all the way through. Shayla Black did an outstanding job.
This book has a little bit of everything. Will Carson give up his dream for true love? Will he choose true love over the dream business his Father left him? I loved the depth of this story. There was so much background, story, steamy scenes, and surprises in one book. I highly recommend adding this to your pre-order list!
Carson needs to find a fake bride to get a competitor off his back while still getting necessary money to keep his business afloat. Hiring actress Ella to be that fake bride actually backfires on him when the chemistry between the two is explosive. Falling in love was never in the cards, but can Carson make the deal of a lifetime and win the girl and keep the business. This was a cute read with great characters and a surprise ending. It was an enjoyable read that I highly recommend.
Although this is erotica, I still expected a sort of story but found it to be less believable than a Mills and boon of the 1980s.
The sex scenes became a bit boring and the feeble plot was really strained by a cardboard character. The woman fractionally more believable, just. Event he peripheral male character seems to have been created by numbers and the wooden figure left bears little resemblanmc=nce to a living person.
That the supposedly steamy sex scene is interrupted whilst our hero tracks down a stool was quite amusing, but not enough to prevent this being a thorough waste fo time
To save his family’s candy company, Carson Frost takes a loan from his late father’s rival. In order to get the money he must sign over a portion of the company and marry the man’s daughter. As the date gets closer he knows he can’t marry her and he decides to find himself another bride – maybe someone he met before. When Carson contacts Ella Hope and asks her pretend to be his fiancé and then jilt him at the altar, she can’t help but take him up on it. What happens is the growing attraction of two people and even love. How will Ella be able to leave Carson at the altar?
A sweet story of how love can conquer all obstacles in the way.
Bubbly Kendra Shaw, daughter to Gregory, owner of sweet giant, Dulce Lama has been engaged to Carson Frost as part of a $25 million deal to save his company from folding to outstanding debts.
He inherited the confectionary empire Sweet Darlin’ from his biological father who was married briefly to his mother when she fell pregnant but left to make his fortune.
Neither Kendra nor Carson want to go through with the marriage in a couple weeks, Carson has the brainwave to confess that he is already in love with another woman.
He calls Ella Hope, an aspiring LA actress to come to North Carolina and give the performance of her life to convince Gregory they are madly in love. So can Ella and Carson keep up the pretence and can they resist the intense attraction when they together?
I really enjoyed this story, particularly that there weren’t the misunderstandings and dramas that often occur. It’s more a battle of wits and understanding, definitely looking up more of Shayla’s work.
I'm not one who typically likes when it's a boy meets girl, they instantly fall for each other. But somehow this works. The chemistry and story line make is ok, and make you want to keep reading. Many of our customers enjoy Shayla Black books, and I can understand why now after having read this. Her writing style is a winner!
Another fun "Misadventures" book! Sweet story with a twist which will keep the reader engaged until the end. As always, explicit sex, so enjoy this one away from kids who read over your shoulder!
While Black did justice to this unusual romantic premise, and her sex scenes are always really well written, I would have loved more story line.

I loved Misadventures of a Backup Bride from the get-go! The fake fiancee/relationship trope is used often, but this was a great take on it that hooked me right away and kept me engaged throughout the entire book.
Carson Frost has recently inherited his estranged father's confectionery business following his death and while he wants to do right by the company and keep it going for the father he barely knew, poor management of funds by the interim CEO has left the business in peril. In order to get the money he needs to get things back in the black, Carson has entered into an agreement with his father's rival. The only problem is there are two catches, the rival will own a stake in the company and Carson has to marry his daughter. Sounds like a no-brainer except for the fact that Carson and his fiancee have nothing in common and he does not want to go through with the wedding.
In order to still try to save the company, Carson lies and says he has fallen in love with someone else. He's given a deal that if he introduces the love of his life to his investor and then marries her at what should have been his wedding to the investors daughter, he can still have the money. Knowing he has no one in his life that he has feelings like this for, he panics and puts a call into an actress he knows in hopes she'll play the part of a lifetime.
When Ella Hope agrees to help Carson, what he doesn't know is that she had noticed him and was attracted to him when they had met previously. She arrives in North Carolina and the two begin to concoct their plan and learn specific information about one another in order to pull the ruse off.
What neither Carson or Ella expect are the real feelings they end up with for one another. As they navigate the short time frame they have been given, will it be long enough to realize that maybe this isn't so fake at all?
Both Carson and Ella were characters I rooted for and the story has plenty of twists and turns that kept me engaged. This was one of the most creative stories I've read for awhile and that made it very easy to give this story such a high rating. I highly recommend this story!
I liked this love story. I thought the characters were believable. Very cute romance.
Sadly, I did not enjoy this one at all. Insta-love is not my thing and this just felt way too rushed. The characters were not fleshed out and I ended up skimming most of the book. Worse than that, the climax of the story was not good. I didn't care about what happened to any of them.
I've waiting for this story and I'm not disappointed. Ms. Black has done a great job of writing. Interesting plot.
A great storyline with a few twists and great chemistry between Ella and Carson right from the start. The sex scenes were hot and steamy. Loved how this one wrapped up and the ending.
Another great addition to the Misadventure series. Misadventures of a Backup Bride has twist and turns with some extra creativity thrown in. Carson & Ella take us on a bit of a roller coaster at time but the journey is well worth it. I will be recommending this one to other readers
Once again Shayla Black has delivered a great romance story! When Carson finds himself stuck having to marry a woman he is not at all interested in to save his company, he decides to hire an actress to play the part of the woman he loves. Hoping that will get him out of the commitment to marry someone he doesn't love, Carson hires Ella whom he actually does have an attraction to. While the fake relationship story line has been used in many romances, I really enjoyed the predicament that both Carson and Ella faced. This was a quick read and I definitely look forward to more in this series and more from Shayla Black.
This was a good romance. I would categorize it more in the "New Adult" books. It is not as edgy as Shayla Black's other books.
