I want to thank NetGalley for the opportunity in letting me review this book. It was a quick read but such an enjoyable story line. Carson is trying to keep his father's company by getting help from a man who will only help if Carson marries his daughter. So instead he comes up with a scam to prevent from marrying her by asking Ella to be his fake fiance but things become steamy and romantic between them and a twist happens. I really enjoyed this book of the series even though I have bounced around in it. I'm glad that it can be read in any order.
An Overnight Billionaire… When Carson Frost inherits a confectionary that rakes in billions but is too cash-strapped to last another sixty days, he agrees to take a loan from his late father’s rival. There are two catches: Carson has to sign over a permanent stake in the company, and marry the man’s daughter.
Concocts a Fake Bride…
Two weeks before the wedding, he gets cold feet and claims he’s in love with someone else. The investor says he’ll still hand over the cash if Carson takes a stroll down the aisle—with the woman who owns his heart. Since he isn’t even dating anyone, Carson panics. Where is he going to find a bride willing to jilt him at the altar on such short notice?
And Whips Up a Little Love.
Ella Hope is an actress happy for any paying gig, but jilting a hottie in public isn’t what she had in mind. Still, she needs rent, and he’s in a bind. How hard can it be? While playing at matrimony, suddenly their intimacy isn’t so fake. Ella can’t help but fantasize that Carson is her groom and they will live happily ever after. But once his company is safe, will he want her anymore?

I loved Carson and Ella and the both of them together really had a heartwarming feeling together. They worked and I think that's what I loved so much...the fact that they were so good together. There wasn't an overwhelming amount of angst or drama - they just had some really good chemistry! I love when a book comes together and they have a feel-good vibe. It was awesome to read.
Shayla Black is an author who I really love reading and I was excited to start Misadventures of a Backup Bride but I ended up thinking that this was just an okay read. It felt like it was missing that Shayla Black sexiness that I have come to know and expect in her books. Overall it was a okay read and I am happy that I gave it a shot I just wished I would have enjoyed it more.
Carson Frost needs a bride to replace the child like bride that is being forced on him by his investor. Enter Ella Hope a girl he met and remember right before he inherited his candy company from his father. Plan is simple they fake getting married to get everyone off their back, so what if they are falling in love. Can you meet and fall in love with your soul mate in less then two weeks.
Great faced paced story written by Black where I am hoping she writes stories now about Ella's sisters.
i really loved the story and it was fun to read. it was an intreating plot to the story. The only thing that bothered me is that it seemed the story seemed a bit unrealistic.
Loved all these in the series. These misadventures books always bring the best these authors have to offer. And I would love to see more authors offered the opportunity to add to this collection
Not my favorite but still a great addition to the Misadventures series! Just didn't hit the 5 star spot for me but I enjoyed it.
This book was so amazing w/a captivating storyline! It was fun, sweet and sexy! The chemistry between the hero and heroine was on point. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and at the end I celebrated! Well done!
I very much enjoyed reading this book! I loved the plot, and I loved most of the characters! (Not the villain). This is definitely a book I have and will recommend as well as one I will re-read!
An entertaining story of gaining an unexpected inheritance. An agreement is formed and the fun begins when an agreed upon betrothal has second thoughts. A plan is devised in the form of a fake fiancée.
Funny entertaining read
A quick and fun read. Humor, romance and emotion all wrapped up in a book I couldn't put down.
Here is a book that I have been looking forward to for a long time! Can't wait to read more by this author!
Carson Frost is still adjusting to owning a successful confectionary. To get it out of debt and back to making millions, he’s agreed to marry the daughter of a competitor. Unfortunately, he and his competitor’s daughter have nothing in common and no attraction. When he comes up with the idea of hiring a bride to strike a new deal, he didn’t encounter his feelings taking part.
This was a pretty good story. The insta-attraction was well enough written that I felt it worked with this story and fell in with the time-frame of the story. My only problem was that it was somewhat hard to buy Ella’s quick feelings when she repeatedly showed a lack of trust and faith in people. Overall though, I did enjoy the book.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
***4 Stars***
This was a fun fake relationship morphs into way more than either person ever imagined read that was filled with a good balance of heart, smexyness and drama that kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next.
It was easy to like both Carson and Ella. They aren’t afraid of working hard for what they want, they’re honest and have an ease about them that made it easy to connect with both of them. Their journey to their HEA was a fun one and I really liked the direction it took. It is all kinds of insta-lust that morphs into insta-love, but it worked for me because of how the fake relationship came about. They were forced to get to know each other without the game playing and stringing each other along, so they got the “This is me. Take it or leave it” version and it totally worked for me. The sexual chemistry between them is off the charts and I really enjoyed how they became a couple without realizing it. There are a few bumps in their road, but I like how everything worked out in the end.
Misadventures of a Back Up Bride was a fun read and pretty much devoured once I started it. There was one spot where things did slow down for me, but overall it was an engaging and well paced story. The secondary cast of characters were very well written, one I wanted to gut with a spoon on numerous occasions, but he did add a bit of fun to the story in the end. I’m quite curious about Ella’s sisters and am keeping my toes crossed that they may just get their own books one day.
Another fantastic addition to the Misadventures Series! I loved Carson and Ella's story from the first page to the last. This was a super steamy, fun, romantic read with a touch of angst. Carson and Ella are faced with quite the dilemma and I loved their solution. A twist at the end surprised me and I loved it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this one!! Solid 4 Star read for me. This series has been so fun to delve into. It’s my first time reading several of these authors Shayla Black being one of the “new to me” authors. She knocked it out of the park with this book. I will be looking at her library ASAP to see what else I can dive into.
Ella and Carson’s chemistry was incredible and so was their connection. This was a misadventure turned adventure and it was so fun to read. I love insta attraction and I loved that although the story itself that Carson was selling to save his company it was somehow rooted in truth. He had met Ella and fallen in insta-attraction and would have pursued her had she been there alone.
Overall this was a low angst and lighthearted but VERY sexy read!
Received and ARC from Netgalley in exchange for honest review.
I am really enjoying this series. It would be very difficult to choose a favourite.
In this book Carson Frost inherits his families confectionery business and the only loan he can get to rebuild the business comes from his rival at a steep price. In return for the loan he must marry the man's daughter. The only emotion between this pair is dislike and Carson is totally not prepared in any way to marry her unless in a completely open marriage. When he calls upon an actress friend who was once dating a friend and offers her a large sum to be his fake fiancé the tables are turned on him by his rival who agrees to hand over the agreed sum if he marries the fake fiancé instead.
A thoroughly enjoyable read.
I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
I love Shayla's books and her writing! This one wasn't an exception! It was steamy, sweet and cute.Exactly what I was needed!I absolutely loved Carson and Ella. Carson is being forced into a marriage with a rival’s daughter. He confesses to loving another woman and then finds himself having to prove it. Ella is an actress but hasn’t found success yet. When the man she met six months ago calls to offer her a job she accepts. The money is a great motivator but the truth is she was and still is very attracted to him.The chemistry between these two was magnetic.Another great story in this series!
This has been my favourite Misadventures book so far. Very likeable characters, a great storyline & super hot sex - what's not to like!
Carson inherits his late father's company but he needs some investment to keep it afloat. His rival offers to help him out on the condition that Carson marries his daughter.
Ella is a struggling actress & jumps at the chance to help out Carson by pretending to be in love with him so he doesn't spend his life with the wrong girl. The chemistry between them is off the charts & it quickly becomes apparent that neither of them is pretending. Can Carson save his company & get the girl of his dreams?
I think this is the 4th book in the Misadventures Series and I enjoyed this book for what it was. We have Characters Carson, a CEO of a candy company who recently inherited it from his absent father, and Ella, a "not so famous" actress in Hollywood who is hired by Carson to play his girlfriend. Carson has recently inherited his father's candy company and he has to find a way to fix its financial problems. Being that he is a rookie CEO, there aren't any banks that are willing to loan him the money so he turns to his rival, Mr. Shaw to lend him the money, which is crazy by the way. But nothing comes easy and there is a catch, Carson must marry Shaw's daughter and also give him 5% of his dad's company. Shaw's daughter is 10 years younger than Carson and very immature. What would you do in this situation? Would you hire an actress to pretend to be your long lost love or soul mate? If you answered yes to this question, then look no further because this book is built on this concept.
I like the characters in this story and their chemistry was ever so present throughout this story. The sex was, of course, hot and scorching. Carson was a down to earth type of character with great ambitions and Ella was also a grounded, mature character with a touch of a sex goddess. I was actually expecting more sex, but I was okay with few sex scenes because most authors drown their books with repetitive sex scenes. This story was very different from the other books in the series because I actually got to see the development of their relationship and I connected with Ella.
When we first meet Ella, we meet a nice, grounded girl trying to make it in Hollywood, but when she meets Carson, she turns into a nymphomaniac. She is this sex goddess, but that quickly fades away throughout the book. It wasn’t consistent with her character. The pacing was way off to me and this entire book takes place in 17 days. What? That is exactly what makes this story a huge fairytale. The ending was a nice Disney princess ending with everything being resolved with a nice pretty bow. It made me roll my eyes so much that I had to pick them up from off the floor. The ending is so cheesy. This bothered me for some reason, but I still enjoyed the story. This is one of those instant love and fake fiancée story arcs and if you are a fan of this category in romance then you will most definitely enjoy this story. I give this story 4 stars and even though this story reeked of "happily ever after" Disney princess style, I still liked this story and I had a good time reading it. I recommend it.
