This was an entertaining anthology for those interested in the romance genre. I wasn't blown away by it but it was alright for wasting a few hours.
A sexy, sizzling romance with a sexy cowboy sheriff and a damsel in distress. This is my first Boxed Set featuring cowboys or western stories but I was none the less pleased by it. They were great stories, sexy as can be and full of great suspense and dreamy romances.
Very good stories I liked this set so much I now have it and the first one in my Wish List to buy.I would recommend reading the first set as one of the stories ties in with one of them.I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Donna Alward's Seducing the Sheriff: I enjoyed the story from the first interaction between Cassidy and Joe. It was so obvious that they were interested in each other. When Cassidy recognizes the robber at the bank it forces them to really spend time together and the sparks fly. It was a great story to read.
Sarah M. Anderson's Roping the Rancher: Tommy and Carly were fun but confusing to read. I wanted them both happy but I wasn't sure they were meant to be together. The end was surprising and I love that they can find a balance in their relationship.
Jenna Bayley-Burke’s Captivating the Cowboy: I think this was my favorite of the three. Jules and Slade were so amazing to see them move into a relationship. Jules thought she knew what she wanted but hadn't been listening to her heart. Slade knew he wanted a wife and someone to be a mother for his children but was having no luck finding the right one. When the sparks fly between them they both try to deny their connection but as time goes on it grows impossible not to care for each other. I loved their chemistry and am now curious about both their families and friends stories as well.
All three stories were fun to read and I will recommend them to all my reading friends
4.5 stars I always find rating anthologies difficult. It's like buying a cd of music. You might love some, but others maybe not so much. All three stories in this anthology were good but I found Roping the Cowboy the most emotionally satisfying. They are all linked through the dating site Notmyfirstrodeo.com which is for people who have been married or in a permanent previous relationship.
The first story, Seducing the Sheriff, by Donna Alward, is fairly lighthearted. Cassidy is not sure if she's ready to date again after her first marriage but she has put her profile up on the site. In the meantime, at the eating place she works at, she witnesses Sheriff Joe Lawson's date with a setup by his sister totally crash and burn. When she is present during a bank hold up, she recognises the bad guy from the dating site. So of course she needs protection and Joe is her man...or at least he will be. A nice little story, a little warmer than Alward's usual stories.
The second story, Captivating the Cowboy by Jenna Bayley-Burke, starts out with a lot of similarities to the first one. Jules works at her uncles restaurant and for the past few months she's been watching Slade Weston come in with a different date every Friday night. Everyone knows he's ready to find a new wife and mother for his two children after losing his first wife a couple of years ago.
Jules is ready to leave town. She has big dreams of becoming a fashion designer in New York. But she likes Slade and is quite prepared for a fling before she leaves town. We can all guess how that is likely to go.
This was a nice story but it was a bit big for a novella. There was a lot of family time and a couple of things that didn't get resolved that would have strengthened the story. I kept feeling like it was part of a series and wondering when we would get another characters story. I think the couple getting married in this one were in the first anthology which I haven't read yet.
Roping the Cowboy was my favourite of the three. When it started out, I wasn't sure. Tommy is only twenty two and a bit of a manwhore but once we get to know him, I liked him a lot. Carly, like the other heroine's in this anthology, works in the restaurant he brings his dates. He's not eligible for Notmyfirstrodeo.com but his father's romance in the first anthology was through the website. Carly is eligible, being a divorcee in her thirties and assistant manager of the restaurant.
An unlikely pairing at first the romance was really sweet and emotional. I got a little misty at one point.
Overall, a nice selection of warmish novellas. If you like cowboys and real life heroes and heroines and a warmish heat rating you will enjoy this.
I requested this ARC from netgalley for an independent review.
I got my cowboy fix with three tantalizing read from this trio of authors that came together to offer a wonderful rodeo experience.
This was one sure way to get your cowboy fix. Three wonderful authors brought out their big guns with three different, sexy, sensual cowboy romances.
Hot, sexy, alluring, tantalizing, intriguing, top notched male hotties that scorch the valleys. Begin your cowboy vacation this week with Donna Alward, jenna Bayley-Burke, and Sarah M. Anderson. While each one give you a brand of cowboy you will not forget.
Not My First Rodeo 2 Boxed Set is a nice little collection of romances set around the dating site NotMy1stRodeo.com.
Seducing the Sheriff by Donna Alward: 4 stars. It features hot sheriff Joe and the woman he is protecting, Cassidy. Seducing the Sheriff is sweet and sexy and Joe especially stands out because he's so sweet and protective. Cassidy got on my nerves a little because she was so hot and cold with Joe, but once she got over it, she was OK.
Captivating the Cowboy by Jenna Bayley-Burke: 4 stars. It features sexy cowboy dad Slade and his fashion designer love, Jules. Slade has been looking for a wife to help him parent his 2 young children but hasn't been successful. Jules has watched him come into her restaurant for almost a year before he she finally offers to help him find the right woman. She doesn't mean her of course, as she's leaving Opal Creek soon to head to fashion design school in New York. But, of course they fall in love because what woman wouldn't fall in love with a hot cowboy dad with 2 adorable kids?!
Roping the Rancher by Sarah M. Anderson: 3 stars. It features college senior, Tommy and the older woman he falls for, Carly. This was my least favorite of the three novellas. It's good, it's just that I'm not into the whole cougar trope and Carly is kind of annoying. Tommy is adorable, though, and if Roping the Rancher were expanded and Carly made less annoying, I'd probably rate it higher.
Seducing the Sheriff:
This is my favorite in the bunch. I’ve been reading Ms. Alward since forever and she never disappoints. I liked how she put to sorta friends together after a rather shocking incident and just let me tell their story. Cassidy and Joe’s story just flew off the pages. It had heart, emotions a depth to it for such a short story. Again, she never disappoints and I loved the whole idea of the matchmaking site.
Roping the Rancher:
I have to admit that I can’t remember is I have ever read anything by Ms. Anderson but after reading this story, I will be on the look out for more of her stuff. I admit that I’m 7 years older than my husband, so this story made me chuckle a bit. However, this story made me sad a little bit. I wish, after reading the book that Carly should have told me more of fears when it came to the bedroom. The above excerpt shows us that but Tommy never knew or figured it out. That said, I LOVED how she dictated what happened in the bedroom. This is very little D/s but it fits in their story. Tommy finally figured out how much he cared and loved Carly and would do anything to make her happy. Carly had/has a much bigger path to follow and I just wish that the story was a bit longer. Overall, a great story about finding out that age is just a number; it’s what’s inside the heart that counts.
Captivating the Cowboy:
Okay. Yes, this story was just okay for me. I never really connected with Jules on a deeper level. I understood why she wanted to leave but in the end, she never gave the town a chance. With a huge chip on her shoulder and sleeping through half the town, it’s no wonder that most people didn’t like her or understand her. I equally felt sorry for her sister, Drea. Drea found her roots in the town and when the decision was made to stay, Jules just thought about herself and not what Drea needed or really wanted out of life. Slade, on the other hand, is a dream. I liked him from the start and realized that his heart is in the right place, just not how he decided to pick the women to date. I like Jenna’s writing but this one just didn’t resonate with me.
Wow, what a fantastic box set!! All three stories are 5 star reads, they were page turning stories. They had all the feels with and very enjoyable novellas. I highly recommend this box set. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book from publisher via NetGalley.
Seducing the Sheriff by Donna Alward
Rating: 3.5 Cups
This was cute, quick, and way too short.
When the bank Cassidy is at is robbed, not only is she shocked and scared, she recognizes the robber from his profile on the dating site, Not My First Rodeo. With no way to tell if the robber recognized her from her profile, Joe, the sexy sheriff she’s had her eye on, decides to hide her away at his home in the mountains. One thing soon leads to another but he’s the sheriff and she’s the woman he’s protecting. She knows people will talk, but are they willing to risk it?
This was fun with a slight element of suspense. Cassidy and Joe both feel something for the other but they both have some baggage from their pasts they have to get over first. It was a little slow in some spots. Still a fun read although this felt more like an intro into a series. I really would have liked more from this one.
Captivating the Cowboy by Jenna Bayley-Burke
Rating 4.5 Cups
This one had to be my favorite from the set. I could not put it down.
When Jules takes it upon herself to help Slade find a wife that’s suitable for life on a ranch, she doesn’t intend to fall into bed with him but that’s exactly what happens. Although she’s made it clear from the start, she’s leaving in a few weeks so sexy fun time is all she’s offering. But, they’re starting to fall for each other and when Slade sees how Jules and his two-year-old daughter interact, he knows he’ll do anything to make her stay, even if she’s intent on running.
Slade and Jules were amazing. They were sizzling but what was so great about them is that they were so open with each other. But they have a lot of hurts from the past they need to work through and she’s afraid she’s won’t be enough for him and his kids. This one did start out with insta-lust but quickly developed into something more. And Jules was so headstrong, I really wanted to shake her and ask her to open her eyes and see what was in front of her, but she finally figured out what she was searching for.
In Roping the Rancher by Sarah M. Anderson
Rating: DNF
I just couldn’t get into this one. I’m not a fan of romances where the heroine is so much older than the hero.
This is a must read box set of 3 heartwarming and heartfelt stories. I do recommend reading this box set.
A great compilation of stories each involving a dating site and addressing how difficult it is to meet that special someone when life gets hectic. Each of these authors put there own special spin on the theme and we end up with 3 great stories to entertain us. I definitely recommend this one!
Seducing the Sheriff by Donna Alward - If witnessing a bank robbery isn't proof that dating just doesn't work for Cassidy doesn't know what does. Now being protected by the very sexy sheriff - that might just work out fine! A little humor, a little suspense makes this a good read.
Roping the Rancher by Sarah M. Anderson - A great story that proves the heart wants what the heart wants and age differences shouldn't matter. Carly's no cougar but when the much younger Tommy keeps coming around it gets harder and harder to resist him.
Captivating the Cowboy by Jenna Bayley-Burke - For the last ten months Slade Weston has been on one bad first date after another. After losing his wife more than two years ago he's ready to move on with his life. Running a ranch and raising two small children doesn't leave a lot of time for dating so he signs up with Notmyfirstrodeo.com to help him along. Strangely though none of the women the site sets him up with have any appeal. Not like the sassy charismatic waitress at the local diner!
Fun anthology that is not too deep but just right when you want stand-alone novellas with HEAs to entertain you. Not My First Rodeo 2 Boxed Set by Donna Alward, Jenna Bayley-Burke and Sarah M. Anderson has stories that all involve an on-line dating site but not necessarily how the couple is brought together. The distinct style of each writer adds to this cowboy anthology. Two of the writers, I had not read books by before this anthology so it was a great way to sample their work.
My favorite was Donna Alward’s Seducing the Sheriff. Roping the Rancher and Captivating the Cowboy were well-written and maybe hotter but I like the characters in Seducing the Sheriff the most.
Never has a compilation come along that varies in ideas but is so obviously meant to end up together. Donna Alward, Jenna Bayley Burke and Sarah M. Anderson embrace the power of what it means to be a woman with these tempting stories of danger, risky behavior and heartwarming humor.
Cassidy gets more than she bargained for in Seducing the Sheriff. From online dating to in need of protection, never would she have suspected that she'd find a love match along the way. Donna Alward brings the funny but combines a hint of danger with her always captivating and heartwarming formula.
With Roping the Rancher, Sarah Anderson seduces her readers with her tale of an older woman and a younger man. A little taboo, but a whole lot of sexy. Carly releases her inner vixen and finds out what happiness means.
Captivating the Cowboy by Jenna Bayley Burke - Jules has big dreams that do not include letting rancher, Slade tie her down. Will the heart win out over the ambition? A simple story of how powerful an emotional love can be.
Seducing The Sheriff – This book has on screen sex and some light cursing. This book is the best of the bunch in my opinion. It isn't easy writing a novella-length story and being able to make a love connection work, but Donna Alward knows how to do it, and do it well. Joe and Cassidy actually developed a friendship as they went along rather than just having sex all the time and calling that love, and as a reader I really appreciated that. But if you're just reading for the sex don't worry, they do have plenty of hot sex. There is more character development and actual plot to this story than in the two that follow it. This novella on its own gets four and a half stars.
Captivating The Cowboy – This story has a lot of cursing and a lot of onscreen sex. I really wanted to like this story, and maybe I would have if it were a full-length book and the story could be fleshed out more it would have been better, but wound up disappointed with this one. There was too much sex (which was hot, don't get me wrong) and not enough of Slade and Jules getting to know each other and developing a relationship for my liking. Their entire relationship was based on sex and a few conversations that Jules pretty much shut down before they could really talk about anything important. My favorite scene was Jules' trip to the ranch and the epilogue because we got to see a totally different - and really likable - side of Jules. 3 stars.
Roping The Rancher – This novella did not have f-bombs but had a lot of sex talk and on-screen sex. It also featured a weird blend of a kind-of-sort-of dom/sub relationship, and what felt like mommy issues which was awkward to say the least. As with the novella that came before it, I would have liked to have seen a lot more of the main characters actually connecting as a couple rather than just as sex partners. Tommy's lack of maturity and Carly's lack of trust were never really dealt with and I am not totally sold that they'll make it in the long run with those issues still between them.
Seducing the Sheriff by Donna Alward 4*
I first read this story last June and I enjoyed re-reading it. It is an entertaining story, which kept me hooked (despite having read it before) with a HFN ending. Would have preferred a HEA ending which could perhaps have been achieved with an epilogue several years down the road.
Captivating the Cowboy by Jenna Bayley-Burke 5*
Jules can't wait to shake off the dust of the small town she lives in and return to her home town of New York where she plans to study design. However hooking up with a sexy Western brother weeks before she is due to leave is not one of her better ideas. A sexy read. Highly recommended. Again an epilogue would have been a nice bonus.
Roping the Rancher by Sarah M. Anderson 4*
Carly is 37 whilst Tommy is 22. I am not a fan of large age differences, particularly the cougar scenario. Personally I couldn't bear to be with anyone that other people would think was my son or my parent. I would think that Carly would be forever trying to look, act, dress young and fear that he would leave her for a younger model. Having said that, the story line was both interesting and sexy.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Not My First Rodeo 2 may be the first time I requested something from Netgalley simply because the title made me laugh. The gimmick here is that it is the name of a dating website for people who have already been married, which I found pretty cute. The novellas, though, went way beyond cute with secret hook-ups and hang-ups everywhere. Three strong, smart women and the dudes who find them with the help of (and sometimes despite) NotMy1stRodeo.com. Here's how the stories ranked:
Roping the Rancher by Sarah M. Anderson:
My favorite of the three because this one was a surprise jolt to the romance reading senses. Divorced Carly and college senior Tommy plunge into an unexpected cougar-submissive relationship without even saying (or thinking) those words. Their affair is hot and unusual yet totally sweet and tender as they fumble to figure out their sexual kinks together. I thought Tommy's still being in school would be a complete ick factor, but his "growing up" made his devotion to Carly that much more sincere. 3.75 stars
Captivating the Cowboy by Jenna Bayley-Burke:
The insta-lust connection between Jules and Slade was cracking; those two were sexually meant for each. The insta-family aspect wasn't as enjoyable for me. I had issues with that Jules and her own uncle couldn't connect while Slade's family suddenly adopts her as their own, with the exception of Ace's insulting behavior to her (which was not addressed satisfactorily, imho). Jules is suddenly a bridesmaid in the wedding, a magical Mary Poppins momma figure to Slade's kids, and even blessed by Slade's former mother-in-law. For me, Jules and Slade's story was too fast and too much, not to mention that she made all the sacrifices. 3.5 stars
Seducing the Sheriff by Donna Alward:
A sweet, sexy sheriff - how could Cassidy resist? The conflict keeping Cassidy and Joe apart was fairly contrived but the slow, stumbling journey to their HEA was sweet and heartfelt. 3.25 stars
3.5 stars
Fantabulous!!!! What an amazing collection of stories!! Fans and ice water required.
Ladies these are over the top; hot, sexy cowboys, strong women and the story of how they each come to meet. All based on a little web site called Not My First Rodeo. (NMFR) They're stand alone stories, the common denominator is the web site and the characters are either divorced, widowed or "it's complicated" And they are cowboys and hot damn these women have written the hottest stories and the perfect cowboy, I can't say enough about them. My problem is I can't decide if I like Sheriff Joe more than Slade, they both had their own attributes. I'll leave it at that.
This book deserves a huge shower of stars and I want more! I want more of these wonderful little stories that keep you glued to the pages and enthralled right in with the characters. Sigh. Love.
I just loved it.
Applause all around for Donna, Jenna and Sarah!!
**arc from NetGalley and Entangled in exchange for a fair review**
LOVED this collection of books! Each is a stand alone story the length of a novella or short novel, so they're meaty enough to have a substantial story within them. I felt invested in the characters and wanting them to have a HEA.
While I loved all the stories, the first one, Seducing the Sheriff, was my favorite. I loved how the characters were thrown together and how they interacted. I was sorry when it ended and would love to see the characters continued in a future book.
Fans of the genre will love this book. Put this at the top of your TBR as it's a must read for this summer.
Suducing the Sheriff-
Cassie is a independent strong headed person who's been hurt and is not ready for love. Joe has been set up on another blind date his sister chose only to realize maybe the person he wants is someone who's been there the whole time. These two have to battle their demons through the book and it keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. They have this natural chemistry with each other but don't know what to do with it. The story is super fun read and just sucks you in to the small town feel and I love that. I love novellas but I wanted just a little more of there story seemed a little rushed towards the end, but a super fun read for sure. If I was rating just this story I would give it a 4 star.
Captivating the Cowboy-
Jules just wants to belong and have family but she is also wants to further her career. When things take a turn and start to get interesting she holds her ground. Slade is on the hunt to find a wife now it's summer that put on hold everyone knows how busy a ranch can be. Will they be able to find hope for a future when everything else seems against them? The author did not disappoint with Jules, Jules is a firecracker through and through and the author did a good job and making her a strong take no prisoners while giving her a soft side too. At first I found the story lacking but that did change pretty quickly and it really drew you in. I loved the small town feel each on of these stories has offered to far. If I was rating just this story I would give it a 4 star.
Roping the rancher -
Carly is years out of a bad relationship and she ready to find someone new. She just never thought it would be in the one place she said she would never find someone. Tommy is weeks away from graduating college and he's ready for a new adventure. He's sick of the same ol same ol girls so he wants to find something/someone different. Can they both find what they are looking for? Out of all three stories this one was my least favorite. The story seem to be lacking something I can't seem to put my finger on it. I wasn't a fan of either of the characters. Carly came from broken and that part of the story was pretty powerful but that seemed to be the only way to connect with any of the characters. If I was rating just this story I would give it a 2 star.
Over all the group of books were fun to read for each of their own reasons they all are looking for love and hope to find it in the least likely places. Each on was done in a small town and in the first 2 stories they had some quirky characters and it was super fun and added to the over all story. Each story has strong language and adult scenes some more then others. Fun summer read for sure.
