I have been dying for Follow Me since I finished reading The Amateurs last fall. This book follows a group of teen detectives who attempt to track down a killer. The multiple perspectives work nicely, and the main characters are all enjoyable. This is a perfect mystery series, and I can’t wait until the final book is released next year!
This is the second instalment in The Amateurs series, and is just as eerie as the first. It follows a group of teen amateur detectives who get back together to hunt down a serial killer. Follow Me is the kind of book that will frustrate you on behalf of the characters as the group tries to expose the killer while also being threatened by him. This book is filled with suspense as the main characters follow the clues to his location, and there are many shocking plot twists. However, compared to The Amateurs, Follow Me is a little bit lacking. In the first book, the characters try to figure out who is behind the series of murders, but in the sequel, we already know who the killer is, so the story is basically just them trying to find his location. It is still enjoyable, but I would have liked a bit more.
I really enjoyed the use of multiple perspectives in Follow Me. The reader gets to delve into not only the thoughts of the entire group, but also the killer. It is so interesting knowing what both sides are planning at the same time, and it really adds to the creepiness knowing what is happening to the girl who was kidnapped. I am always a fan of multiple POVs, but it worked especially well in this book.
There is a great cast of characters in this series. My personal favourite was Seneca, since she is great at interpreting clues and is so determined to find the killer. However, the rest of the group doesn’t seem to have as big of a role in this instalment, which is a little bit disappointing. I remember enjoying Aerin’s character in the first book, so I would have liked to see more of her.
Follow Me is the sequel to The Amateurs and tells the story of a group of sleuths trying to track down a serial killer. The multiple narrations is intriguing, especially the killer’s perspective, and the main characters are all so likeable. This series is perfect for the fall, and I would definitely recommend it to those searching for a super suspenseful mystery.
Probably one for the fans. This made more sense having read book one, but it didn’t feel like we were on the same series. Dipping in and out of views kept it from being too dark, but it never really got going for me.
Tired plot, tired characters, tired writing. There was nothing interesting or original about this story..
I love Sara Shepard's mysteries that she tells! Pretty Little Liars was one of my favorites and this series is even better! Follow the mysterious disappearance of Chelsea Dawson through a group of girls who have their Nancy Drew hats on to find who dun it!
I enjoyed this book! Shepard has an amazing imagination. I would definitely add this to my young adult library section.
Chelsea Dawson loves to be in the spotlight. As a social media star, she enjoys taking selfies and posting videos. When she disappears at a party following a fight with her ex-boyfriend, Seneca and her friends notice that she looks like Aerin’s sister and begin to think that the same person who killed Helena also took Chelsea. The Amateurs make it their mission to travel to the Shore and investigate on their own. Will they be able to find Chelsea in time? Will this person take any more lives along the way?
Follow Me is the second book in The Amateurs series. Shepard leaves a few breadcrumbs at the beginning to nudge the memories of readers and these reminders would even help readers who are jumping straight into the second book. The mystery flows quickly and characters are constantly trying to catch up to their mysterious murderer. This portion of the story does have an ending, yet the larger story is nowhere near completion. Readers who don’t like to wait may want to hold off until more books are out. If you like a good mystery and don’t mind cliffhangers, then give this book a try now.
The sequel to The Amateurs kept my attention and constantly kept me guessing. Though the characters have not changed drastically from the first book, I found myself getting more annoyed with some of their personalities in this novel. I will still recommend this to fans of thrillers, especially if they enjoy show on The CW or Freeform. The teenage characters definitely fall into the tropes that you often see on those networks. Nevertheless, I did still enjoy the mystery.
The only bad part about getting an advance copy of this book is that the wait between this book and the next will be even longer! That was quite a cliffhanger to leave it on.
I enjoy how there's more going on in these books than it first appears, and how in the end everything ties together and shows an even bigger picture than you imagined.
At first I was worried that this book might be stale, since we've already done the "lying to your parents" drama from the first book and all the characters are now established and know each other, but I think moving it to a new location and changing it from murder to kidnapping kept it fresh. I also enjoyed how more details about Seneca's mom are being revealed.
And my favourite creepy thing in these books is how we get to delve even more into Brett's intense misogyny and how societal misogyny prevents women from being taken seriously when they've been the victims of crimes. How all women and girls, even/especially? those perceived as being shallow arfe seen as being less able to be real victims and more likely to fake things for attention. A lot of people may see these as being ~shallow teen detective novels~ but there is a lot of social commentary packed into them.
I recieved an ARC copy of this novel through Netgalley. My review is my own and I appriciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. The Amatuer's is a new series from Sara Shepard, it is a young adult mystery series and this review is for Follow Me, the second novel in the series. I really enjoyed the first novel in this series, Sara Shepard is pretty reliable with her books so you know what you are getting with her writing. I am not giving any spoilers to the novel, but this is well worth reading. Sara Shepard brings a new mystery and the group back together to solve it. I will only give away that it takes place not too long after the first, but the group has gone their seperate ways, but are brought back together again. Do not skip this book if you love Sara Shepard, mysteries, or just great suspense!
Brett is at it again! If you've read The Amateurs, you know what I am talking about! Seneca, Aerin, Maddox, and Madison, a group of friends brought together by a website called "Case Not Closed" has a new case to solve that could bring them closer to capturing their tormentor, the elusive Brett Grady, who manipulated this foursome into becoming his friend, only to reveal later that he is the murderer they were looking for all along. Now, the beautiful Chelsea Dawson, a social media sensation, is missing. Did Brett kidnap her? It seems like his MO. If so, will Seneca, Maddox, and the rest of the crew be able to find Chelsea in time? Will they finally be able to find Brett and get him behind bars where he belongs?
This book is suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat! Read it! You will love it! Just be sure to read The Amateurs first because this is not a book that stands alone, it's definitely part of a series.
I have heard so much about Sara Shepard that I was thrilled to read this book.
Unfortunately, the tone of this book felt so juvenile to me - while I realize that this is aimed at YA, I have read my share of YA novels and this one felt off to me. The tone, the characters and even the storyline felt as though my 12 year old would have loved this book. Very disappointed.
I was in a bit of a reading slump, and this was the perfect book to get me out of it. I could not put it down. This is a YA thriller, but it is as dark and twisty as some of the adult thrillers that have been topping bestseller lists of late. After reading the first book in this series, I was able to guess some of the plot twists, but there were still moments I was completely not expecting. My only complaint is now I have to wait for book 3! Thank you to NetGalley, and DisneyBook Group for the ARC!
I love mysteries, and it is sometimes hard to find one that has a true "twist" ending. Most books I figure out the end. Pretty Little Liars continued to surprise me (it was so outrageous, how could it not?), and this series is no different. A group of strangers, teens whose lives have been impacted by violent loss, meet on a cold case internet forum. In Book 1, they meet to solve a crime. In Book 2, they are dealing with the aftermath of getting answers they may not have wanted. Can they trust each other? Is knowing the truth always better? Is another life in danger, and if so, can they stop it? Not always the most plausible of stories, but I just went along for the thrill ride.
Sara Shepard is a mastermind behind many whodunnits for teenagers and 'The Amateurs' series is not an exception. "Follow Me' being the second book in the series about teenagers working on unsolved crimes is as gripping as the first one and ends with a highly anticipated cliffhanger that will leave you both shocked and willing to read the third part of the series as fast as possible. I highly recommend the book for all the detective stories lovers, it's an incredible fast read.
Interesting follow-up to The Amateurs. While some parts are predictable and others implausible, there is enough suspense and intrigue to keep fans of Sara Shepard engaged.
In this thrilling sequel to The Amateurs, 4 friends find themselves together again investigating a young woman's disappearance and up against an old enemy. A dark, face-paced mystery that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
I could not put this book down. It was everything I loved about The Amateurs with the suspense turned up to 11. Sara Shepard is an absolute master.
Just as engrossing as the first book!!! So glad to have gotten an eARC. I can't wait for Book 3. as the book ends on a big cliffhanger.
