This is a great fun book by Kelly Pulley.

‘Bicycling Rules of the Road: The Adventures of Devin Van Dyke’ is a well illustrated children’s book with clear text.

I don’t have my own children but I do work with children and therefore like to keep up to date with new releases. The language in the book is easy for children to understand and I would recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this children’s book.

Bicycle safety is hugely important, and this rhyming book is an excellent way to learn the rules! I recommend that all children read this (or have it read to them) when they first learn to ride a bike.

Bicycling Rules of the Road by Kelly Pulley is a very informational and FUNNY book. It teaches riders to be safe while riding their bikes. When the rules are not followed the bike rider finds himself in quite a mushy mess. The full-color pages were full of playful and most times goofy illustrations. It had us laughing out loud from the first page of rules to the end. What a great way to make rules fun and show the importance of following them for your safety.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

With its rhythm and rhyme kids will easily bounce along with the story as Devin Van Dyke first follows and then breaks all the bicycle rules he knows. So what happens when you let people ride on your bike, you can't see, you take your helmet off, more people get on, some animals get on, and one of the animals is on your head while the other hacks in your ear?

Humorous and fun, Bicycling Rules of the Road is a great book for introducing basic bicycle rules to young kids.

I didn’t like the poem before the story, but I did like the list of bicycling rules in the back. Devin’s story was valuable but silly. Kids will enjoy it!

This is a really fun story and a great way to remember the bicycling rules. It emphasises the importance of making sure that you wear your helmet, make sure you can hear and see, and that there is only you on your bike so you pay attention. I loved the rhyming nature of the book. The images were bright and attractive and it was a great read overall too - 5 stars

About the book...

Devin Van Dyke
If off on his bike,
He's wearing his helmet
Knows all the rules right?

Sees Betsy LaBelle
Who smiles, gives a wave,
"Please give me a ride...:
Poor Devin, he caves.

Puts Betsy up front,
Her hair flowing free
Makes Devon's heart flutter
Even tho' he can't see.

They rescue a cat,
Then his basketball team,
Bodies pile high
'Til its almost obscene.

The last passenger added?
Is a goat.... holy cow!!!!
The goat hacks and coughs,
Devin's in trouble now.

A HUGE truck is coming
Full of wiggly worm bait,
Will Devin's bike hit it?
Will this be his fate?

Please remember the rules,
And obey every one,
Be safe on your bike,
Only then you'll have fun.

The book's written in rhyme,
Illustrations are great,
It's all about safety
Get a copy, don't wait.

Devin Van Dyke's mother taught him some rules to follow when riding his bike. (They are at the front of the book, told in rhyme). When he is out riding, he forgets the rules, especially when the pretty girl and the cool basketball players ask for help. Devin has a crazy ride with extra passengers, noisy animals, no helmet and more. Will he survive the ride? This is a cute story for children to learn the safety rules when riding a bike. It is a little over the top, but that will make it easier to remember. The illustrations are large, colourful and fun. A great book to use with children learning to ride a bike as well as to reinforce the rules during bike safety week. A great addition to a school or family library.

Thanks to NetGalley and Schiffer Publishing for allowing me to read this advanced copy of Bicycling Rules of the Road by Kelly Pulley.

Devin Van Dyke has one crazy day,
He may be surprised by what comes his way.
As he rides his bicycle around on the street,
Adventures and characters, he will soon meet.
So, read this book and learn a bit more,
about Devin, his friends, and what lies in store.

This is an interesting and educative book teaching your kids about riding, the safety measures that must be obeyed and all about following the rules especially the traffic rules which is set there for their safety and others. But poor Devin Van Dyke trying to be helpful to his friend Betsy broke the first and so he continued until it was too late and he ended up eating worms. Following the rules and laws is very important to all our safety and Devin and his friends learned the hard way about not bending the rules, a nice way to get the message across to your kids.

A fun story to remember the bicycling rules. Wear your helmet, your bike is made for just you, make sure you can hear and see, and above all pay attention. After all you don’t want to be covered in bumps and eating worms do you? I really like the wordplay in this book, even the worms could have a darker meaning. A great book for the sunny season.

My son and I loved this story, and I plan on buying a physical copy for him as soon as possible!

The illustrations were so nicely done!
There are several lessons hidden throughout the book...one being mom knows best!
I love that it shows children that there can be consequences for not following the rules, and while the story didn't end so badly...it could have taken a much different turn. Rules are there to protect not only the child but everyone else too. I love that it put so much emphasis on showing how so much went wrong, how it would affect other people all because of one mistake.
I thought it was so neat to have important rules of riding a bike listed in the back!
Overall, very happy with the story! Keep writing more!
