I love these books on approximating shapes to a final beautiful drawing. It makes it easy for a novice to go step by step which is not that difficult right, to a final amazing work. Makes a dauntign thing easy.
This book is filled with step by step instructions on the drawing. As a beginner, I enjoyed all of the exercises. The author does a good job of breaking it down into simple shapes to begin you're drawing.
I highly recommend it for the beginning artist.
I received this galley from NetGalley.
This is a great book for learning to draw. I highly recommend it to be used in art classes. This book gives simple directions for learning to draw and makes understanding how to create pictures easy.
Considering the high reader review's of Lise Herzog's Just for Fun: Drawing, I chose to take a look at the book as one of a small library of beginner art books for my 5th grade granddaughter's Christmas present. I was very impressed with the simple and easy to follow step-by-step instructions so much that I practiced drawing before wrapping it up. You will find it a great stepping stone in learning to create artistic drawings. Full Disclosure: I was allowed to read a copy of this book for free as a member of NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and I was not influenced to give a positive review.
Great book to and illustrations. Easy to follow instructions which did not cause frustrating feelings. The author wants you to have fun drawing not to be critical of what you drew. Enjoyable book. Great for anyone who wants to learn to draw and just relax and enjoy yourself.
Really cool book to learn how to do some drawing that you couldn't do before! I'm an awful artist, but this book helped with a lot of pointers to improve my drawing
This is a great drawing book. It starts with the basics of supplies needed and gives you step by step instructions that lead you to your own masterpiece. It is so freeing to have some direction and guidance and then make it your own by adding things here and there. I think nature is my favorite but with the nature I can add some wildlife that she also teaches and maybe a person or building off in the distance. The skies the limit and it’s all up to you!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A great guide to drawing for fun, perfect if you're an absolute beginner. I loved the artist's drawing style and step-by-step instructions for drawing. This book includes sections on drawing scenes, animals, people etc. And it had a quick guide on what materials you'll need that I loved. The writing was clear and easy to follow even for me! I highly recommend for everyone and anyone who wants to draw. 5 Stars
Review is on Amazon.co.uk. Many thanks for the opportunity.
Just for Fun Drawing by Lise Herzog is part of the Just for Fun series, and is a great how-to book for aspiring artists or any beginner wanting to learn how to draw. Most of the book focuses on animals, but there are also sections on how to draw nature and people. At the beginning of the book, Herzog discusses the different materials and tools to use for drawing -which I found very helpful. The instructions were easy to follow and short, which is perfect for young kids and beginners. Overall, a great resource for kids and adults who are either just learning to draw or would like to improve their skill. Recommended for ages 5 and up!
This book really helps beginner like me learn how to draw. Easy to follow with step-by-step tutorial. This is a very beginner's book, this book will serves as guide on learning to draw. Very useful!
Thank you Netgalley for this book.
What makes this book such a strong introduction to art is its organization: it's clear that it's trying to show the reader how to see how art is made, which of course is the most effective way to teach someone how to make it themselves.
By breaking down techniques and practices into small illustrations and examples and setting them against finished works, this book shows the reader how to incorporate these small skills into a bigger context. It's a really effective way to teach art.
I also really liked the introduction with the art materials: these visual tools are really useful to someone trying to figure out what they want to try and use, and how they should try and use it.
I'd happily recommend this to anyone who wants to work on drawing on their own time, for their own pleasure. It's a great resource.
This is a nice book for beginner artists. If any of the sections are lacking, I would say it is the tools section. It is very vague in its descriptions of said tools and why you might choose one over the other (ex. the entire section on ballpoint pens is this: "Ballpoint pens are round and soft, and enjoyable to use for drawing. These pens allow you to draw very thin, light lines or thicker ones.").
The actual drawing tips are broken into the following sections:
Animals
People
Nature
Static subjects
Taking flight
It's definitely well presented and will definitely help a beginner to expand their skills. Good for children and adults both.
Good book. It gives an idea of basic drawing needs and then goes on to explain techniques to draw animals, birds, humans, clothing, landscapes and rooms. It has simple to follow steps.
I'll be honest up front, I feel there are better beginners drawing books out there.
The book does begin with a good section all about basic supplies, and the idea of breaking an object down into it's basic shapes. However I feel that the example process drawings often make too big of a jump between stages for a beginner to feel confident in following.
Perfect for drawing novices interested in learning to draw. I love how it easily breaks down the steps for shapes. It's easy to follow for readers young and old.
Just for Fun: Drawing by Lise Herzog is a compilation of 100 different projects to tackle to learn the art of drawing well by really looking at the world and life around you and picking out their shapes. The illustrations show the step by step development of a drawing from the basic shapes and lines to full on texture and shading. This book is great for young people who desire to learn more about art and improve their drawing skills, or even adults who want to draw but need a few pointers to get started. The drawing drills cover a multiplicity of areas: textures, lines, value, perspective, and much more. This does not talk down to the reader, as the wording is sparse and simple with easy to follow directions, and illustrations that teach and inspire the young or old artist to look as they draw.. It shows figures without nudes, still life and landscape. This is a comprehensive book of drawing. Great for tweens, teens, home educators, art teachers, public libraries, and the person seeking to hone their skills. I have a very old book that is similar that was my mother's and it inspired me to pursue art. This looks to do the same.
Right up front I will say that my devices wouldn't accept the epub verson I was sent, but the little I did see was awesome! I really hope that I can connect with the author to figure out where to get a paper copy of Just For Fun Drawing.
"Just for Fun: Drawing" is an art book to help beginners learn how to draw. It combined text describing what to do and why you do it with simple, step-by-step drawings. This allows the person to learn how to draw cats in general, for example, not just the pose shown in the book.
I'd recommend this as a good beginner artist book for tweens and teens (or older). It's done in a style that should keep a younger person interested, but it also taught some basics found in adult drawing books. So we learn how to draw basic shapes--in perspective--and how to add simple texture and shading.
The book began by describing what drawing tools to use, and you can start out with as little as a common pencil and a sheet of computer paper. Other tools were described, but you don't have to start fancy. We then get the step-by-step "add a circle here and here, combine the shapes, add some texture" instructions. These usually involved four steps that were easy to understand and weren't complex to draw.
We're taught to draw animals like cats, big cats, dogs, wolves, rabbits, horses, cow, and birds. There were brief descriptions on how to draw people standing and in motion, the parts of the body, and clothing. And we learn to draw nature in part (like a tree, flower, or water) or as a whole landscape drawing. The finished drawings should look recognizable without being complex to draw.
This is an excellent little book. The step by step instructions are detailed enough to get beginners drawing something they can be proud of right away. But the author also includes lessons on transferrable techniques and basic drawing skills so you get the best of both worlds. There are lots of illustrations, and lots of great things to draw. This is an excellent book for any beginner, Thank you
