3.5 stars - Aaron and Eden were really fun and sweet and the story in itself was well written and engaging. However, when Eden finally left the island it felt really slow and I found myself wanting to skim for the parts that held positive information or dialogue. I appreciate that the story was more like real life in that things don't always happen instantly.
This was a very sweet romance about what true love really is and how wonderful it can be.
Eden Blaine had come to the small island, Destiny, in the Pacific Northwest to find her long-lost aunt. Her aunt had run away at 17 years old to join a hippie commune with her boyfriend and had not been heard from since then. Fifty years later, she wanted to try and find her aunt to help her ailing mother find some closure. When she arrived in Destiny, the last thing she thought she would find was love. She was a city girl, born and raised, and had no intention of every leaving the city or her family but the people and surroundings in Destiny had a way of changing her mind, especially a certain handsome pilot who offered a no-strings week of help and fun.
Aaron Gabriel didn't do relationships or love. He had learned the hard way that he wasn't meant to be loved. He only loved his younger sister and niece but there was no room for anyone else in his life. That was until he met Eden. She got under his skin and suddenly he began to see the possibility of a future and it scared him. He wanted to be with her and talk to her and spend time with her and it wasn't all about the sex but he genuinely enjoyed spending time with her. When he began to see a future with her he needed to proceed with caution so it didn't scare her off. She loved her family dearly but wasn't ready for another relationship with a man. But, Aaron also burrowed his way into her life until she couldn't see a life without him. There were so many things working against them that she wasn't sure it would work but she had to give it a try. . . didn't she?
My only criticism of this book is the descriptive sex scenes. There weren't many but I don't personally enjoy reading the details of one's sex life.
I was given an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The romance in this book was too quick for me. They didn't really even start to get to know each other before they jumped in the sheets. Not for me. Susan Fox is a dynamic author but I felt this one fell short for me. I will continue to read her books.
Eden Blaine is an attorney and she is dealing with her mother being sick with cancer and her own break up with her longtime boyfriend. Now her mother has asked her to look for her long lost sister who she has not heard from since she was a little girl in the late 60’s. Traveling to Alaska she meets Aaron Gabriel who is not looking for happily ever after. But he is looking at one beautiful women who he would like to get to know. Realizing that she is staying in his home town for a week he volunteers to help her in looking for her aunt. She agrees since the town is a very close knit community and it would be difficult for them to talk to an outsider. While there she meets a very eclectic group of people. Meanwhile Aaron is becoming more attracted to Eden but does not think he deserves to be happy since his childhood was so troubled. Eden is also attracted to Aaron but lets him know that she is a city girl and does not see herself living in a small town in Alaska. Things change a little when Aaron shows up at her place and stays for a week but like her he does not think he could make it in the city and she would not want him to. Still looking for her Aunt Lucy everything begins to change when she is found still living there and was just vacationing when Eden had arrived. Now they all have choices to make including her parents. The book and the ending are all very good. Overall a good story.
Fly Away With Me by Susan Fox is a good read. This book is about Eden Blaine and Aaron Gabriel. Eden’s mother just finished treatment for cancer and decided that she wanted to try and find her sister who left when they were younger join a commune. Her mother, Helen doesn’t even know if her sister Lucy is even alive. All she knows is that she left Ottawa and went to commune in 1969 on Destiny Island. Edens parents ask her to help find her Aunt by going to Destiny Island. Eden and her boyfriend have just broken up and she decides to take this trip to hopefully lift her mothers spirits.
When Eden loads the plane that will take her to Destiny Island she automatically notices the pilot. She also judges him as someone who just flys the plane. After everyone unloads the plane and they make the final part of the trip it is just Eden and Aaron on the plane. Aaron noticed Eden, he thinks she is attractive even though she is a little uptight. During the flight to Destiny Island Eden tells Aaron the purpose of her trip. Aaron being a native Destiny Islander offers to put her in contact with people who may have been in the commune or knows people who left. Aaron also tells Eden she needs to loosen up and have fun. So for him helping her he wants her to hangout with him and experience the island and enjoy each other while they are on the Island.
Eden and Aaron both hold up their end of the deal. Although they both develop feeling for each other but don’t tell each other. Eden also leaves Destiny Island after her week is over and has not found her long lost aunt. When Aaron flies her back to Ottawa they have a disagreement about Eden’s sister. Aaron tells Eden there was a couple that left before she got to the island that may know something about her Aunt. He tells her when they return home he will ask them if they know anything about her Aunt Lucy.
This story is about Eden finding her true self while trying to help her mom. Aaron is a great guy who things he isn’t made for love just flings although he actually loves so many people and the Island of Destiny. This is a dual POV, that moves at a decent pace with just the right amount of romance.

Edna was a lawyer but now she had taken a week off work to go to Destiny Island and try to find her mother’s long lost sister Lucy. Edna was a program counsel for the Butterworth Foundation which involved administrative and legal duties. But the best thing in Edna’s world was her family- her parents and her younger sister Kelsey. Edna was going to the island by seaplane and the plane was being flown by Aaron Gabriel. Edna was not really adventurous and firmly believed in schedules. Edna liked order an predictability and situations she could control. . Edna’s mom was fragile after a double mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiation and she desperately wanted to see her sister Lucy again. Edna and Ray had broke up after four years so to say it had been a hell of a year ….. Edna found she was attracted to Aaron. Until a year ago Edna had been happy and uncomplicated. Edna had her family , her terrific job, and Ray. But then her grandmother died, her mother was diagnosed with cancer, and then Ray and Edna had broken up. Then a week after the chemo and radiation Edna’s mom was still feeling sick and depressed and then a week ago Edna’s mom had found a clue to Lucy’s disappearance. Aaron was attracted to Edna but he was a sworn bachelor. Edna is a serious uptight woman and Aaron was an easy going and only close to his sister and niece. Aaron was all fun and short term goals. Aaron told Edna the people were quirky at Destiny Island and didn’t care for outsiders but Aaron offered to help Edna get a foot in the door. Lucy had come to Destiny Island in the 1960’s to join a commune with her boyfriend.
I liked this story but it had a few things that bothered me. However I did feel it was well written and had a good plot. At times the story dragged for me and was hard to keep my attention on the story. For the most part I thought had a believable aspect to it. I thought Aaron was a little too pushy at first as he knew from talking to Edna she had been through a lot in the last year. So i liked the characters and the ins and outs to a point but I still had mixed feelings on this book. But I do wish I could have rated it a 3.5.
Fly Away With Me by Susan Fix is the first book i read by this author. It is the first book in a brand new series. Edan Blaine came to Destiny Island in Vacouver to find her aunt who came in 1960's to join a commune. Edan wants to find her aunt for her Mom who is ill and has missed her sister. Aaron Gabriel is the pilot who flies her to the island and after hearing why she is there decide to help her get answers. While reading this I not only wanted Edan and Aaron to find their HEA, but also one for Edan's Mom. This was often times a very emotional read and heartwarming. I highly recommend this book. I received a copy from Netgalley.
As always Susan Fox delivers an emotional rich story with Fly Away with Me. Being the first in a new series the lovely setting of Blue Moon Harbor is built along with the community and a bit of mystery from the past to be solved. Detailed descriptions make you feel as if taking the trip to the small Pacific Northwest community along with Eden. The fly overs of the area were amazingly wonderful. One of Susan Fox’s best descriptive works.
The characters are engaging and the kind of people you would enjoy knowing. While just a fling is not my favorite romance this one works, as Eden, the planner, does not have plans to stay in the area and Aaron, the-fly-by -your -seat type of guy never plans too far ahead. There are several subplots that add to the emotional intricacies of the story making this an awesome series first book. I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, especially small-town romance or wilderness romance. Then there is a bit of mystery to top it off.
I am eager to read #2 in this series. I enjoyed this first visit to Blue Moon Harbor. Many interesting characters with serious issues and back stories. Lots of potential for future romances
Fly Away With Me by Susan Fox
Blue Moon Harbor #1
This is a solid story introducing Destiny Island where they say your destiny awaits… When Eden arrives she is in search of her Aunt Lucy and also in need of some R&R. Aaron, the pilot that flew her to Destiny, and she converse, have dinner, agree to work together to find her aunt and also fall into having a short-term fling. There is little the two have in common and when Eden heads home it seems to be the end of the liaison. Seems to be… Anyway, there is much that happens including both of their families, a mystery to solve, a missing person to find, disease to fight, decisions about the future and some romance with a HEA for the two main characters. The story was well written and though I had trouble seeing Aaron and Eden together in the beginning they did grow on me as a couple and by the end of the book I was ready to read book two in the series.

What I liked:

HEA
The story was slow and I had a hard time finishing it.
Interesting start to a new series. While not a favorite of mine it's not a bad read. The writing is good and the characters intriguing. I found the romance lacking not really feeling the chemistry between Aaron and Eden. There's lots of family drama to be dealt with and a search for a long lost aunt which gives nice twists and turns to the story. Overall, for me, an ok read.
Really lovely setting for the book. Liked the overall feel of the story just wished it hadn't dragged in places. There was the initial reason for the trip and then so much more thrown in. Didn't really need the side story of the dark side to the commune unless this was opening up for another story. Really glad we got to see the progression of the relationship and not 'instalove'. Dealing with the hurdles is part of the reality check in life.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with a copy of this book. I really loved the cover of this book. It was an interesting story revolved around a mystery, mainly set on a beautiful island. The romance between Aaron and Eden was sweet but at times a little slow.
The whole story was slow and dragging in parts. It did touch on very important issues, that kept the story real.
I did enjoy the book and kept reading till the end to find out how Aaron and Eden would find their HEA.
I would love to visit Blue Moon Harbour.
Overall a sweet story :)
RATING: 3.5 out of 5
Fly Away with Me is my first experience with Susan Fox -- and unfortunately, while I enjoyed it, I wasn't completely loving it. I guess my biggest issue was with the romance. I don't know whether it is because the relationship starts as a holiday fling (I thought Aaron was a little bit too pushy) or because there is a bigger drama with both Eden's family (her mother's cancer) and Aaron's family (his sister, a single mother, is being evicted) -- but the romance is a little bit underwhelming.
Considering that Eden and Aaron are quite different in characteristics -- Eden is more of a planner, more uptight and serious, with close relationship with her family versus Aaron who is all about fun, short term goals and has no plan for long term relationship -- I was expecting these two butting heads with sparks flying everywhere. I didn't feel like I got all of that, though. And I was slightly annoyed with what I thought of the "serious reserved city life BAD vs. fun relaxed small town life GOOD" premise that I seemed to conclude from this book.
Having said that, I was VERY much interested with the "mystery" -- in this case, Eden's quest to find her missing aunt and what might have been going on with the cult, the missing leader, and the mysterious girl that Eden's aunt seemed to help all those decades ago. What happened to her? What other secrets that the rest of the cult member might have knowingly kept? I guess the mystery-fan in me is very much intrigued with all of those.
I read the first chapter on the RT VIP website and was really intrigued so I requested it on Netgalley. I thought there was a lot of potential from what I read and was really looking forward to reading the whole thing. Unfortunately all I can say was that it was just okay, and I *hate* having to say that. For me, the main characters ended up being the drag on the story.
Eden is a lawyer from Ottowa who travels to a small island in British Columbia searching for clues to the whereabouts of her aunt Lucy. Lucy disappeared from Ottowa in 1969 and the last letter received from her was sent from Destiny Island where she and her boyfriend had joined a commune. Aaron owns a charter business and is the pilot flying Eden to the island and offers to help her interview some of the island’s more eccentric residents.
Things heat up between Eden and Aaron during the course of the week she is there, while the hunt for her aunt appears to be unsuccessful. A secondary story line about members of the commune is introduced, however I didn’t really understand the necessity. I’m assuming it must factor into a future book in the series, but to me it was a distraction from the main mystery in this book.
I actually liked most of the secondary characters in this book better than the main ones, but I never grew to care about Eden and Aaron which was disappointing. I will read the future books in the series to see what happens because I did like the setting, and maybe they will allow me to change my mind about this initial outing.
I enjoyed this richly woven story. There was mystery, romance, pain, family life and wonderful relationships. The story takes place in Blue Moon Harbor, the Pacific Northwest. The description of this area has me wanting to book my next vacation there. A Pilot meets a Lawyer from Ottawa and they are
very drawn to each other. It was heartfelt and sweetly done. The issues they face aren't easy. This isn't
"insta love" it's gritty and real and very well written. Looking forward to the next book in the Blue Moon Harbor Series.
