I have to admit, the way Bronwen Evans writes, keeps you engaged until the end of the book, but the plot of her books have gotten utterly ridiculous.
The deduction that Rose had towards Phillip was exhausting to read. I mean my goddess, this man has shown you at every corner that he does not love you enough to marry you UNTIL something horrible happened to you that can take you away from him forever and you call that love? like girl, leave that man alone and find someone that actually loves you.
I love how the author wrote Rose. She wasn't a blushing virgin that was obsessed with being virginal, in fact, nobody cared about her escapade except maybe her brother (gross, I know). And I loved that about this book.
I understand Phillip's guilt, but the length he took it to was ridiculous and he hurt many people in the process, especially Rose and her son. I was rooting for Rose to quit him completely and find someone new because even at the end of the book he admitted that he didn't think he would have married her if a series of events didn't happen. And that's just sad. So sad. I would never want a love like this.
All in all, the story kept me engaged all the way through, and the writing was solid and for that, it gets a solid three stars. Especially since the last book in the series was such a disaster, I almost didn't read this one.
Steamy romance that gives a good blend of sizzle and romance. I definitely recommend this for anyone wanting to read a book with major chemistry.
This is an excellent book, with all the elements anyone would want in a historical romance. Widowed Rose, is kind, loving and adores her son. Vowing to never remarry, she has been involved with Phillip for two years, and has fallen in love. Phillip is a tortured man, haunted by memories of his brother's death for which he has assumed blame. This guilt leaves Phillip vowing not to have happiness, since his brother cannot. Throw in some heated chemistry, loyal friends, and an unscrupulous lord leading the reader through a number of twists and turns to the eventual HEA. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my freely given honest review.
Book seven in The Disgraced Lords series a well written with a very good storyline. I was not putting this book down until I had finished reading it. Rose Deverill is known as the “Wicked Widow” but then she reconnects with Philip Flagstaff the second son of the Earl of Cumberland's story She has loved him since she was fifteen, but Philip does not believe he deserves love as he can not forgive himself for the death of his brother Robert. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I recommend it.
I'm a huge fan of all historical romances and the synopsis on this one immediately captured my interest. I thank netgalley for the Arc in exchange for an honest review
(I apologize for the delay in my review - didn't realize I hadn't left one). This is the story of Rose and Phillip - a historical romance that is the seventh book in The Disgraced Lords series. I don't normally read historical romance books and this is the first one I read in this series and I suprised myself with how much I enjoyed it. It has romance, suspense and great characters that make up a story that you do not want to put down.
Phillip Flagstaff, the Earl of Cumberland is living with guilt ever since his brother saved him from a Frenchman's bayonet, dying in the process. Phillip was the screwup of the family, and now he is the Earl instead of his brother. He goes not ever to marry or have any children so the earldom can pass to a more worthy brother. Only he didn't count on Rose. Rose Deverill, the Duchess of Roxborough has been best friends with Philip's sister, Portia since they were children. Unfortunately for Rose her father sold her to a much older man, who had the decency to die the day their son was born. In the next few years she earned a reputation as the Wicked Widow. That is until Phillip, a man whom she adored as a young girl. As the main storyline begins, Rose and Phillip have been conducting an affair, never planning to marry anyone. However, love gets in the way. There were many times during the first half of this book, I would have liked to reach in and shake the dickens out of both characters. They drove me crazy with their constant wishy -washiness. He couldn't get over himself and his grief to be happy. She couldn't seem to give him the benefit of doubt when circumstances occurred. Thank goodness, the author sent in some villains, adding intrigue, danger, and action into the story. In the end I can honestly say I really enjoyed this book. It is the seventh book in the Disgraced Lords series. I love it when an author catches us up on characters from previous books.
A man who feels he has no right to love, a notorious widow who wants to prove him wrong, and someone trying to kill her son. This was a very enjoyable read - did not want to put it down. I received this from the author at no charge.
Sensual and poignant, this story pulls at your heartstrings. The frustration of an affair with someone you love, but who won't take it to the next level is excruciating and the author does a fantastic job of detailing the angst of both partners. The story takes an unexpected turn, which only adds to the intrigue. This book was well written and totally engrossing. I received an ARC to read and this is my honest review of the book
Fabulous strong heroine. Well written, a little dramatic with the brothers but otherwise very good. Wood recommend
What started as an affair between the merry widow, the Duchess Rose Deverill the Earl of Cumberland, Philip Flagstaff ended up as true love. I am an avid historical romance reader. I have enjoyed reading all Bronwen Evans books. This book is the 7th book in The Disgraced Lords series. The writing, as I have come to expect, flows well and keeps the reader involved with the characters. This story like all Evans' novels has notable detail, complex characters, and just the right amount of intrigue, suspense, romance Evans' books are filled with time appropriate issues and outcomes that leave you satisfied. Bronwen Evans is a MUST READ AUTHOR and this is a must read book.

***Thank you***
Another wickedly, sensual book that I did not want to quit reading! Bronwen Evans has done it again. Now, I have to say that I started out this series with this book and will definitely be backtracking to read the previous 6 books in the series. Yes, sometimes I do read books out of order...it's sort of like looking ahead a couple of chapters, right?! No? Well, I did it anyway.
A Love To Remember follows the Duchess, Rose Deverill, who also happens to be The Wicked Widow into a tremendous battle to win the heart of her Duke! I love that! It's not too often, in historical romances, that the heroine is a bit promiscuous. Of course, there is a reason for her wanton ways, as is most cases, but I definitely had fun reading about Rose's wickedness. But, when the right fellow captures her heart, Rose decides she is through with the many and is ready for only one.
The newly titled Duke of Cumberland, Philip Flagstaff, is haunted by grief over his brother's death. He blames himself and has sworn to never enjoy the title or marry. However, fate has other plans for this dangerously sexy Duke. He tries his best to not give into what his heart clearly wants...but it's not enough for Rose. She's in it to win it and destiny is on her side!
I recommend A Love To Remember to all romantics out there, who are looking for a bit of an adventure and wicked sensualness. Keep the novels coming Bronwen Evans!
I am sorry to say that I didn't finish this book. I haven't given it a star rating as I feel it is not right if I haven't finished the book. I was given this book by netgalley to review. I didn't finish it as I felt the sudden jump into a sex scene in the first few pages was a bit much for me. I read historical because I prefer the innocence of the time and accept there are sex scenes in most and I skip them but this was too much too soon and turned me off.
This author never disappoints me, and she did not disappoint me with this book either. The story is very well written. Her characters are well developed and very interesting. The book has drama, action, humor and romance. I loved it from start to finish. Well done!
This is the seventh Disgraced Lords novel and it is about Rose and Philip, a couple who has been part of the other books as secondary characters who now gets their own story told. Fans of the series know these two quite well, they have quite an unconventional relationship and readers get to find out why it is so. Although I love Rose's character I simply did not like Philip's reasoning on his decision regarding where his relationship with Rose is going. It felt a little bit off compared to how strong and resilient his character overall is, especially glimpses of it in previous books. Also there are some subplots that although quite entertaining and added some suspenseful aspect to the story, really was more to stretching Philip and Rose's estrangement. Still I did enjoy the story but probably not as much as the first few books.
Rose has been in love with Philip since she was young, but her father married her off to a Duke of her father's age. Years later she is a widow with a small son, taking lovers as she sees fit. However, when Philip's brother Robert dies leaving the earldom, a 2-year affair starts. He'll need to set his family to rights, though, which means no marriage and no children. Though Rose never thought to marry again to marry, when realizes that her days of solitude are numbered and that if she is to marry she
d prefer to marry Philip. All she has to do is make him change his mind.
A Love to Remember is a well written HR novel with great believable characters that are warm and fun. I loved Drake, the little Duke. And with a bit of suspense thrown in this becomes and instant favorite for me. This novel really has a bit of everything. It makes sure that there's always a little for everyone to enjoy. And with the great dialogue, this novel really keeps you engaged. A fun and good read.
Author Bronwen Evans continues her The Disgraced Lords Series with another solid storyline entertaining and intriguing the reader through the final page.
Philip, the hero to this book, is tortured by his past and the loss of his older brother. Because he can't get out of his head and what he believes is his part in his brother's death he chooses a loveless life. Throughout the book he stays firm to his honor and refuses to love, get married or have children. What a mess! For Philip this book opens his eyes to possibilities that he didn't allow himself to see.
Rose, has been in love with Philip forever it seems. The reader's heart will ache as she struggles to deal with the blows to her character from Philip's actions and her desire to move forward and find someone who will love her and want to have more children. Her strength of character to move on with her life is a valuable lesson to all woman stuck in relationships that will never have a happy ending.
I give this 4.5 STARS for portraying a woman who learns to find her strength and a man who finally gets over himself to move on with his life.
Amazing bool. Intense and emotional story. The writes takes us on an amazing y descriptive story with deep chatacters. Great read!
An emotionally satisfying story. This is what I call a "wrong thinking" story. Our hero, Phillip, has allowed his life decisions to be controlled by guilt and shame over his older brother's death. He vows never to marry and have a family of his own. Rose was married at a very young age to an older duke. After his death she lives the life of a merry widow, but she dearly loves her young son. Phillip and Rose have a two-year-long passionate affair. Trouble erupts as Rose realizes she wants more, but Phillip cannot give up his vows.
The strongest thing about A Love to Remember is how much Phillip and Rose really love each other. An interesting twist is that the passionate lovemaking comes first and the move to a solid family relationship comes later. The reader so desperately wants these two to work things out because they are clearly deeply in love with each other. Member of the Libertine Scholars help Phillip and Rose work out their issues. A good, solid read.

A historical romance with a bit of mystery and second-chance love. This novel is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone book (this one was the first in the series I've read and I had no problem keeping up with the storyline or characters). The mystery part did have some twists and surprises and the romance was fitting as well as endearing. The characters are intriguing, the MCs and the supporting cast. I will give this author another try for sure. For historical romance fans.
