The characters are very fun and cute. While the story plot is a bit predictable, it's still a really good read. The illustrations are lovely and lively. It is a one sitting read, which is pretty easy to read through, but it is worth it's while. I enjoyed reading it.
This is a short, fun to read book about April, a 5th grader, who is a witch. In this, the third book in the series, she has to stop a bad witch from causing her school to overheat and birds to attack the students. She has help from the ghost of a good witch and two of her friends. I think that elementary school children will enjoy this book!
This is paranormal but its a quick read for those children that consuming books like its food. Its also has a little more depth to it compared to what most of them want read. The writer also has someone in the story that everyone can related to in his and her own way
Read this with my nieces and they loved it! It was a super fun read! Would love to read the first few books of the series!
This being the third book it shows this adorable series just keeps getting better because it’s not only entertaining, full of excitement, humorously fun but the writing style is perfect for young readers.
I adore Aikens-Nunez’s series because it helps my young daughter work on her reading skills and she likes the characters and their hijinks so much I don’t have to bribe her to put in sometime between the pages.
As a parent it’s so important to me to encourage my daughter to read AND that she have access to books that are appropriate for her so I don’t have to worry about what she’s being exposed to when she gets enough exposure to the negative in the real world. I’m so grateful to have an author like this I can count on for decent material.
Well written book. Highely enjoyable, not to just for the targeted audience but for adults too. My children loved me reading this. So much so they want me to purchase it when its available.
April thought she was the only witch in her town, but then new boy David appears and starts doing some pretty nasty things, which is strange because he seems really nice at school. When you add in a villain that can force David to do his will, you suddenly get a situation that April will need all her magic and will power to resolve. A great read for younger readers..
Such a fun book to read!
I was able to tear through the story in just one sitting but didn't feel like it was lacking sustenance.
It kept my attention throughout and was well written.
In short, this story is about a young girl, who is also a witch. She can almost always be found with her two best friends. One night after a fairly destructive incident, she sees a figure standing out at the end of her driveway. After repairing the damage the boy causes, she falls asleep only to wake up and find that all of her hard work had come undone.
Once at school for the day, strange events begin to take place! She ends up getting to the bottom of the mystery, helping her friends and most of all, finding her strength as a young witch.
The one quote that stood out to me in the book, that was repeated a few times was "Fear has no place in your heart"
All in all a great read that I would recommend!
This is a very simple, easy to read book, with a short quick adventure of a girl witch, who is just learning about using her powers. This is the third book in the series, and I haven't read the other books, but I presume they are similar, and well, they were a little dull, to me, but might be exciting to first time readers. The protagaonist is in danger, and seemly might not escape. The villain is truly pure evil, and even does his monologue about what his plans are. The Cute Boy(tm) who is being controlled is really sweet after all.
And then it is all over with. I guess I am saying that this might be good for early readers since they havne't read that many books, and might not recognize all the old troups and cliches that abound in this book, including having the Cute Boy be Indiginous and refer to himself as a medicine man, rather than a witch.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
Although this is the only book in the series that I have read, it easily engages as a stand-alone, and makes me want to see what adventures this diverse group of friends get up to next!
This is book 3 in a series, but no worries, you can just read this as a stand-alone. I haven't read any of the other books and I understood everything just fine. Mostly because the book seems to just be a new story about April, with new adventures, and a new lesson to learn. There are some references to how she got the book/found her powers/a few things that went wrong, but other than that not much more.
The story was delightful and fun, though I really disliked Mr. Malus. What a terrible person, I hope we won't see him again. Bah. Take on someone your own age/size instead of a child who is learning how to be a witch.
April was a fun character, sweet, caring, and she never let the power she had get to her head, which I love as that happens quite often in books like this. Plus she is also really brave and I was cheering for her to find her inner strength and kick some serious butt!
Grace and Eve are also good characters, I can see why they are all friends. We don't see too much of them, which is a bit of a shame.
Then there is David. I wasn't sure what to think of him for most of the book. I know what was going on, but still.... eh. Maybe he will get better in the next book, I am quite curious about his powers and how he will be handling them in the future.
<spoiler>Then there is Josephine, the previous owner of the book. She helps out April during a few harrowing parts of the book. I love how sweet she was, how she took her time, explained everything, didn't rush (even though there wasn't really time to just stay calm). I hope she will pop up more in the next book.</spoiler>
I flew through this book enjoying everything that happened. I would recommend it!
