For his Clan to survive Ian MacLeod needs to go to England and claiming his inherited English lands. Penniless widow Jillian is asked by the prince Regent to instruct Ian in the ways of the English so he can claim an English bride as well his inheritance. Jillian’s first marriage was a disaster with an abusive husband. She is determined to be her own woman, but first she needs to figure out why her step-son is obsessed with her. I love the witty banter with the sexual tension growing with every barb. A captivating story as these two navigate through the King’s court and English society to find a love worth fighting for. I have voluntarily read and reviewed the excellent story.

“Rouge of the Highlands” is the first novel I’ve read by author Cynthia Breeding.
I have to say I really enjoyed this author’s writing style. She masterfully created multifaceted characters that were intelligent and witty, with just the right amount of humorous, dark, and suspenseful interactions and dialogue that held my interest and kept the pages turning.
I really enjoyed this story for its unique storyline and multiple plots, twist, and turns, that are for me, a refreshing break from the “same old” cookie cutter events and characters that so many books copy and follow. The storyline flowed seamlessly for the main characters with a carefully slow intimate sensual burn that flamed into sexy erotic passion. While the sinister villains displayed their own disturbing erotic appetites that matched their warped plots of revenge and entitlement.
This is NOT a romantic book choice for the clean and sweet readers!
I am looking forward to reading more my this author.
I did feel the end was rushed and we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger because several things were not brought out or mentioned at the end to finish off the happily ever after, therefore, 4 of 5 stars. I received a arc digital copy of this book, which is really in need of sentence and paragraph restructure. It made it hard to read with the sentence spread out on several lines.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is a re-release of the book from 2012.
Left widowed and penniless after a loveless arranged marriage, Jillian reluctantly accepts the job of “refining” a Scottish Highlander who’s inherited an English title. The man infuriates and intrigues her, as well as shakes her resolve to never again let a man close.
Ian MacLeod never wanted to come to England, but his clan needs the profits he can gain by claiming his inherited English lands. When he meets the very proper Lady Jillian Newburn, he’s fascinated by what he suspects is a warm heart and fiery passion underneath her icy demeanour.
A very enjoyable enthralling read, the characters are well portrayed, Ian & Jillian epitomise a Highlander & an English lady but they also have hidden depths & were perfect for each other. The story flowed well but I found the ending rushed. I look forward to reading more from the author

Rogue of the Highlands by Cynthia Breeding follows the story of Jillian who after being abused by her husband, decides to take control of her own life. In order to do so, she must educate a Highlander, known as Ian MacLeod, in the ways of English society. Her role is to help him integrate into society, in the hope that he will find a wife and thus produce an heir to his lands. However, Ian is more interested in Jillian, but he soon realises that Jillian has been treated cruelly. Now Ian must do everything in his power to prevent Jillian from becoming a pawn in the plans of her step-son.
An entertaining read with quite a nasty villain.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Rogue of the Highlands by Cynthia Breeding was published in 2012 and is now being re-released. The heroine, Jillian, has long suffered at the hands of the men in her life. Her father basically “sold” her to a much older and abusive husband. When he passes, Jillian is determined to regain control of her life. She longs to buy back her family home, launch her younger sister into society, and live the rest of her life in peace. The prince offers her a deal---in exchange for enough money to live independently, Jillian must teach a Highlander who recently inherited an English title how to navigate polite society.

Little does Jillian know but she has her work cut out for her. Ian MacLeod has no interest in English society. He’s only interested in his new title and the associated lands to help support his clansmen back home. Ian enjoys his verbal sparring with Jillian and soon he longs for something more. But Jillian has been too wounded by men and has no interest in anything more than seeing him integrated into society.

This was a really great read. I’m surprised that the book did not get more traction when it was first released. I thought it was up there with Lyndsay Sands and others who write Scottish historicals. I would definitely recommend this book.

Publisher's Description:

Left widowed and penniless after a loveless arranged marriage, Jillian reluctantly accepts the job of “refining” a Scottish Highlander who’s inherited an English title. The man infuriates and intrigues her, as well as shakes her resolve to never again let a man close.

Ian MacLeod never wanted to come to England, but his clan needs the profits he can gain by claiming his inherited English lands. When he meets the very proper Lady Jillian Newburn, he’s fascinated by what he suspects is a warm heart and fiery passion underneath her icy demeanor.

Getting past her chilly resolve to keep him at arm’s length will be a challenge, but this MacLeod has never backed down from a challenge in his life. But it’s not all fun and games and stolen kisses. There’s something about Jillian’s stepson that raises the hair on the back of Ian’s neck, and he’s knows better than to ignore the sign of danger that has never steered him wrong.

My Thoughts:

This book has so many different things to follow it sometimes gets a little confusing.

Jillian goes through so much including an almost rape. That one confused me in that there seemed to be no real explanation of how she and Ian got away without killing or at least maiming her attacker. Maybe it was the fairy magic.
The influx of Fairy Magic was a little different in this OK Highland Romance by Cynthia Breeding. This is the third incarnation of this first book in this series. I have only read this one that I recall so I can't speak for the earlier ones. The first time this book released was in October 2012 and since then has had 3 different publishers'
I didn't care for the violence against Jillian but it seems a necessary evil in the plot of this book.
I gave this book 4 of 5 stars for storyline and character development of which there are many.
I gave it a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames in that I felt the near rape scene was totally unnecessary.
I received a free second look copy of this book via NetGalley to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋
This book was great , so descriptive and adventurous, I loved every page .
Ian was how I expected a braw highlander to be , stubborn, protective, a bit obnoxious, humorous , lovable , over sexed , and not scared of anyone or anything .
Jillian the typical English Lady , proper , opinionated, non rule breaking, big sister.
Together they were perfect .
I received an advanced copy of this book and chose to submit a review

When I request, and am given, an ARC, I always promise to give a fair and honest review. A rogue? Nae, tis only a braw Scot who follows his heart and his fairy instincts. Good read.

3.5 Stars
'Rogue of the Highlands' by Cynthia Breeding is book One in the "Rogue"series. This is the story of Lady Jillian Newburn and Ian MacLeod .
This book was first published in 2012 and is now being released again.
Jillian has suffered harshly from the men in her life. From her father who 'sold' her to a husband that abused her physically and mentally. Now Jillian is a widow who is trying to raise enough money to buy back the family house and have enough for her sister to have a coming out.
To do so she has been offered a job to instruct Ian on how to be a Gentlemen.
Ian is a Scots man and is only excepting the English Title to help his Clansman with the money the lands and such will bring. Ian was reluctant to except this English Ladies help until he sees her. Ian finds her captivating and hes never had issues with women before. Ian is used to ladies throwing themselves at him. But Jillian has a lot of rules that she is trying to enforce on him but he has his way of getting to her.
I enjoy Ms. Breeding writing and was glad to see this being released again.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was definitely interesting. The book definitely makes your hate the men in Jillians life. They were all jerks. I did not care for any of them including Ian. Ian was so involved with what he wanted he didn't stop to think about what Jillian needed.
