Lady Eliza Burke is placed in a desperate situation. Her mother has just declared her beloved cousin, Christiana, will marry the Earl of Bennington, Lord Jeremy Landon, in order for him to repay a debt from his late uncle. Eliza knows when Christiana reaches her majority in less than a month, she plans to wed her true love. Eliza tries to get the earl to call it off through a series of letters. When the earl assumes the author of the unsigned letters is the one he is to marry, Eliza gets an idea. She takes Christiana’s place and weds the earl. He is more than a little surprised when he finds out the truth shortly after the ceremony. The unlikely couple find a way to get on with each other and end up in the perfect circumstance, in love.

Although the Landon sisters are not the focus of this novel, I love that Hahn has given their cousin who inherited their father’s title his own story. Jeremy is a very proud man and has worked hard to bring the earldom back from the brink of destruction. Hahn gives us a complex character who has his own set of rules. Those rules fly out the window when he is wed to a stranger. My vision of Eliza became clear from the very first chapter. Someone who has that much love in their heart to toss herself into an unknown marriage is priceless. I applaud Hahn for bringing these two characters to life and giving us a brilliant yet unusual love story.

I really liked this historical read. The story is fast paced with plenty of suspense and drama. Eliza and Jeremy are great characters and had really good chemistry. I found the story entertaining both Eliza and Jeremy had been through a lot. A good read.

Lord Jeremy Landon, Earl of Bennington, spent the last ten years rebuilding the ruined earldom he inherited from his scandal-ridden uncle. He has one final debt to repay. In lieu of money, though, he is manipulated into marrying a spinster…

Lady Eliza Burke is tired of living under the rule of a tyrannical mother. She’ll do anything to escape, even marry a man she doesn’t know—and a man her mother despises. Eliza doesn’t believe herself destined for love. Lord Bennington doesn’t believe he’s destined for happiness. Both are about to be tested by a scandal that could tear them apart forever.

Review:

This is a new-to-me Author and series, I had been intrigued by the blurb and thought I would give both a try. I very much enjoyed the story of Jeremy and Eliza. I loved Eliza's spunkiness and her willingness to help others even at the determent of her well being. I also felt very sorry for and having been used by men in the past. I think Jeremy is a very good mate for her. Even though he is a little too worried about other's perceptions, he truly cares for Eliza and will do anything to protect her, even at his own determent.

Now, I have not read the first two books in the series, but it did not effect my reading enjoyment of this story. Enough was said about the two previous couples that I am intrigued and will go back and read about them. I thought the Author's writing style was good, she had me wanting to keep reading from the first page and I came to care about all the characters. The story was well-rounded with drama, deception, romance, sexy times and even a little action.

I really liked Eliza and Jeremy's story. I admired Eliza for wanting to spare her cousin a loveless marriage and her selflessness in taking her cousin's place in marriage to Jeremy to achieve that goal. It also didn't hurt that this would help her to get out from underneath the rule of her overbearing mother. I also admired Jeremy's quest to restore his family's honor by making right the wrongs made by his nefarious uncle. This was a lovely read with characters you could really root for and just enough tension between Eliza and Jeremy to add some sass and spice. This book was such a great read, that I am really interested in reading the two previous books in the series, now.

Jeremy Landon has spent the last ten years paying back the debts his uncle, the previous Earl, had incurred. He now has but one debt left: the Rushworth jewel. Despite searching for it, he is unable to find it, so has instead earned the money plus interest of it’s worth. Unfortunately for him, Lady Rushworth refuses the payment. After pushing the matter, she agrees to forgive the debt if he marries her ward. This is not what he wants, but his sense of honor compels him to agree.

Lady Eliza Rushworth is determined to see her cousin, Christina, marry the man she loves – who is not the Earl to whom she is now engaged. Her entreaties to Jeremy to call off the wedding are ignored as Jeremy doesn’t believe in love. Eliza then hatches a scheme to save her cousin from an unwanted marriage by taking her place. As the deception deepens, the can the two find love and happiness?

The first thing to know about this book is that the blurb doesn’t match with the content. The elements are there but it hides the ball on the most important part of this romance: Eliza pretends to be her cousin when she marries Jeremy. If that is not your cup of tea, I would not recommend reading it. While this is the third book in Ms. Hahn’s Landon Sisters series, it pretty much stands alone. Reading the earlier books will likely gain you a better appreciation for some of the secondary characters.

The author signposts pretty clearly what the issues will be in this book, so it was fairly easy to guess Eliza’s actions to save her cousin. I thought she kept the deception up for far longer than appropriate. While Jeremy’s desire to repay the debts his uncle accrued is admirable, the obstinacy he displays in the face of Lady Rushworth’s continued refusal to let him discharge the debt is a little much. On the other hand, it clearly demonstrates his personality.

The pace of the book is fairly steady and the characters kept me engaged, even if I didn’t love some of their actions. The secondary characters are also memorable. I enjoyed this book well enough but I thought some of the structural problems overshadowed it.

London - 1812

Since inheriting his title from his uncle 10 years ago, Jeremy Landon, Earl of Bennington, age 26, is determined to pay off each and every debt left by his uncle. The last debt was owed to the late Lord Rushworth who had loaned his uncle a jewel with no record that it was ever returned. Jeremy has been unable to find the jewel or any information on it. Thus, he is headed to the Mayfair home of Lady Lavinia Burke, Countess of Rushworth and widow to the late Lord Rushworth. After repeated attempts to contact her have been rebuffed, he is determined to get the matter cleared up and “off the books.” When he finally gets her to see him, she refuses to have anything to do with him and tells him she despises the entire Landon family. When he insists that he will do anything to pay back the debt, she tells him he must marry her ward, Miss Burke, to which he agrees.

Lady Elizabeth (Eliza) Rosamund Burke, age 26, is Lady Rushworth’s daughter. Her cousin, Christina Burke, is the so-called ward and both young ladies are not happy about Christina being forced to immediately marry the Earl. Christina has long been in love with a soldier and they plan to wed. Lady Rushworth, a thoroughly mean woman, has always treated Christina badly. The real reason is that the girls are half sisters which angers Lady Rushworth.

Eliza takes it upon herself to write an unsigned note to Jeremy asking him to stop this betrothal and not break her cousin’s heart. Thus begins a flurry of notes back and forth between them. Not even knowing his intended’s name, Jeremy asks via a note and Eliza gives him her own name, Eliza Burke.

She escapes to his house with her cousin and Eliza and Jeremy are married right away. Not only does she have a secret of who she really is, but she has another secret that has kept her away from wanting to marry - until now.

What will happen when Jeremy realizes who she truly is? Is there a chance that their marriage can be a good one?

I was really looking forward to reading this book as they plot sounded quite good - and it is - but there are a few areas that I found overdone. The lengths to which Jeremy’s prideful determination to return the family’s good name, blackened by his uncle, were often ridiculous. Eliza’s “secret” should have been shared with her husband right away rather than resorting to the cat and mouse game we see in too many historical romances. The book started off a bit slow, began to grow in the middle, and then went back down. Having made all of these comments, I found the book to be a good read and I know lots of other readers will enjoy it as well.

Jeremy Landon, the Earl of Bennington has spent the last ten years trying to restore the reputation of his family. The previous Earl, his uncle owed a fortune in debts to lots of people. Jeremy has paid them all except one, who will not accept his offer of payment.
When Lady Elizabeth Rosamund Burke hears what her mother has demanded, she knows she must make sure that never happens. Eliza's deception will affect the lives of many people. The scandal that could arise is just what nobody wants.
There is quite a mystery behind our heroine's life. A lovely gentle romance with interesting characters. It is part of a series, so you will meet some characters from previous books, but this is easily read as a stand alone.
I loved it.

'To Seduce a Lady's Heart' by Ingrid Hahn is Book Three in " The Landon Sisters" series. This is the story of Lord Jeremy Landon, Earl of Bennington and Lady Eliza Burke. I have read (and Loved!) the other books in this series but feel this can be a standalone book if you choose to do so.
Eliza knows that true love is not for her..after a past incident that made the man she was to marry call her names and not understand what had happened to her. Along with a mean and controlling mother she set in this life of hers. When Eliza's mother, Lady Rushworth sets out to use Christina to setting a debt which Jeremy, Eliza knows she must do something. Jeremy is trying to settle that debt that his Uncle caused to Lady Rushworth, this is the last one on his list. Jeremy has been trying to slowly work off what his Uncle has done to everyone and this one to Lady Rushworth will end it all. Christina, who is Lady Rushworth's ward and Eliza half sister but known by the town as Eliza's Cousin is in love with someone else. Eliza tires to reach out to Jeremy in notes at first asking him to break off the 'engagement' that has been set up by Lady Rushworth but he is sticking to the agreement. Since Eliza has nothing to loose and wants only to help Christina she moves forward with a plan that will set Christina and herself both free from Eliza's mother.
Because of Eliza past she holds it close to her heart which makes it hard for the present Eliza to see that she deserves love. Jeremy is a man that had a set goal to clear his family name that his Uncle ruined. Jeremy has been all but consumed with this for 10 years.... now he has a new wife and is having to face a new part of his life.
I have followed this series and each book to me keeps getting better. I truly love Ms. Hahn writing and hope to see another out soon by her.

To Seduce a Lady's Heart, by Ingrid Hahn is a historical regency romance, and the third book in The Landon Sisters series.

Lord Jeremy Landon has spent years repaying his scandalous uncle's debts in order to rebuild his title as the Earl of Bennington. With one last debt to repay, Jeremy is denied and then manipulated into agreeing to marriage. However, his future bride is in love with someone else and her friend, Lady Elizabeth Rosamund Burke, decides to save her from a life of misery.

As a spinster with a previously broken engagement, Eliza believes that this forced marriage might be her only option to escape her tyrannical mother. Even though their marriage began with manipulation and a few lies, Jeremy and Eliza are attracted to each other. As the story continues, they have to deal with possible scandals, plenty of secrets, and a missing jewel.

To Seduce a Lady's Heart is geared towards those who prefer reading historical regency romances.

To Seduce a Lady’s Heart by Ingrid Hahn
Landon Sisters #3

A difficult mother, an unwanted marriage, swapping out the betrothed female for another, secrets, scandal, debts and a duel are part and parcel of this story. Jeremy and Eliza both agreed to the marriage without expecting to have more than an emotionless, loveless duty-filled relationship but over time grew to know one another and in so doing fall in love – a deeper abiding love than one based on some others. There were some rather unbelievable bits in with some very believable ones.

What I liked:
* Eliza’s strength and practical nature
* Eliza’s ability to care for others – animal and human
* Jeremy’s desire to be an honorable man
* Jeremy’s desire to make Eliza’s duty in bed a pleasure instead of a chore
* The true caring that developed between H/h
* The element of music – I have a violin and sometimes think of playing it again (as Jeremy

What I didn’t like:
* Eliza’s mother and her controlling nature and scathing tongue
* Domnall – if you read the book you will see why
* did)
* I sometimes wanted more information about some of the characters (but if I had read the previous books in the series perhaps I would have that backstory)
* Captain Pearson’s callous words (though Jeremy’s made up for them)

All in all it was an entertaining way to spend the afternoon and I would like to thank NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Lord Jeremy Landon, Earl of Bennington, spent the last ten years rebuilding the ruined earldom he inherited from his scandal-ridden uncle. He has one final debt to repay, it’s a Rushworth jewel that he’s been unable to find so offers Lady Rushworth money instead but she refuses, he then offers to do anything to repay the debt. Lady Rushworth who hates any Landon wants Jeremy to marry her ward & he agrees. Lady Eliza Burke is tired of living under the rule of a tyrannical mother. She'll do anything to escape, even marry a man she doesn't know and a man her mother despises but it will save Christina who deserves to marry her love Tom. So Jeremy & Eliza marry & it’s only after their marriage that he finds out who Eliza really is.
The pace of the story was good & the characters were well portrayed but I found it hard to really like Jeremy & Eliza. She had a secret that although she could have told Jeremy on lots of occasions she didn’t & she went running back to see the mother she disliked immediately she was sent for. Jeremy said he wasn’t bothered about Eliza’s past but then when they consummated the marriage it was purely for his satisfaction, that’s not how I expect a hero to act. Then there was Daisy, I didn’t get why he was referred to as a she after his sex was pointed out as a young pup. It was a story of letting go of the past & going forward & whilst it wasn’t the best book I’ve read it certainly wasn’t the worst. I’ve read other books by the author & loved them & this has no way put me off reading more

This entire series has been a series of hit and miss with me. There have been characters that I really enjoyed, and characters that I did not enjoy. Unfortunately this novel happened to hit solid middle of the road. As always, I enjoyed the author's writing style. I find myself drawn into her stories even when the characters are not all the enjoyable.

Let's begin with Eliza shall we? At first I liked her. Her determination that her cousin should not be forced into marriage with someone other than the man she was in love with. Her loyalty to said cousin was admirable. And then she goes and ruins it by becoming angry with Jeremy when he finds out about her duplicity and confronts her about it. Not only that, but she continues to keep a rather large secret from her husband even after he gives her ample opportunity to come clean. All that added up turned her into a character that I just couldn't get behind.

Now let's move on to Jeremy. While I can completely understand the desire to right past wrongs, and rebuild a ruined name, I feel being cowed into marrying someone a bit much. That could be overlooked however, as could his understandable (and justifiable) anger towards Eliza when he finds she's essentially tricked him into marrying her. That wasn't what turned me off of him. What killed it for me, was after she finally revealed her deep, dark secret to him, he still went about bedding her (twice), with no thought or care to her pleasure. It was as though he was simply using her body to fulfill his needs. I also did not care for the way he was constantly going back and forth between what he wanted to do, and what he should do.

I wish there had been more closure to the circumstances with Dumnhall. I can't go into too much detail without giving away some spoilers, but I feel like his arc in the story was left unresolved. What happened after the events that transpired that we know about?

Oh, and perhaps this is more pet peeve than anything else, but can someone please explain to me why, after her husband gifts her with a male dog, she continues to call the dog Daisy and the pair of them consistently switch back and forth between calling the dog "he" and "she"?

Overall, I do think there are some fans of the historical romance genre that would enjoy this story, and I would read more from this author.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. Loved the book. The story of Eliza and Jeremy is a well written book that is a great read. They marry, never having met prior to the wedding day and over time come to love each other very much. Eliza endured tragedy as a very young girl that has caused her to see herself as unworthy. But as tragic as it was, she has matured into a strong woman. The book has a HEA ending and I would highly recommend this book.

Jeremy wants to scrub the bad name his name carries and repay a debt. Enters Eliza who wants to remain a spinster but thanks to her scheming mother she marries a man she doesn't know. Very slow story and hard to get into.

Dire straits brought them together, will unexpected love tear them apart? Reading reading an Ingrid Hahn always keep me on my toes. The pace moves so fast that, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. With Jeremy and Eliza, this proved not to be an issue. To Seduce A Lady's Heart cast a spell not easily broken. From desperation of circumstances to the emotions bubbling over within their hearts, Ms. Hahn has a firm hand on the reins as Lord and Lady set about stealing the heart.

Publisher's Description:

My Thoughts:

This is the second book that I have read in this series and book number three in the series.
I have only recently read any books by this author.
This tale has many twists and turns and is a compelling and convoluted romp.

This book starts as a story of a man in need of a way to end the debt that his predecessor incurred saying he is willing to do anything. He never imagined anything would mean marriage to a woman he has never met.

The intended bride is equally unwilling, so her cousin (actually half sister) unbeknown to the intended groom takes her place.

Eliza has previously been engaged and rejected after her intended learns she is not virginal. She has no intentions to marry but will replace the bride to save her cousin.

This story leads us on a merry chase that is at times confusing. Will Jeremy and Eliza turn this into a love story or will this confusing story end badly?

I gave this interesting tale 4 of 5 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 2.5 of 5 flames.
The sensuality rating has more to do with the sometimes confusing and conflictive nature of this tale than the actual sexual encounters.

This is a book I loved at times and felt totally confused about at other times. But overall it is well done.

It can easily be read as a standalone book since there are few characters in common with the other book I have read in this series.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

I found the story be well-written and interesting. A good historical romance

It's quite an interesting read. I loved both Jeremy and Eliza, they're well suited for each other. Jeremy is tired of being judged because of his family's history. He is obsessed to right every wrong his predecessor committed. And in last ten years he has succeeded in doing so. Now all he needs is to pay back one last debt and then he will feel the weight of the world lifted from his shoulders, or at least that's what he thinks. Unfortunately, and very oddly, the person he needs to pay back to refuses any payment. He is at a loss as to what he can do to get rid of his uncle's final debt. Unwitting he mentioned that he will do anything..... now he must marry a woman he has never met, doesn't even know her name, but still he is willing to go through with this marriage. After all he is going to need an heir, and he needs a wife...
Eliza can't believe Lord Jeremy agreed to her mother's crazy scheme to marry her cousin. Not that he looks like a bad person, but her cousin loves someone else. And one should not marry for anything but love. She is going to make sure that her cousin gets the love match she wants. So now its up to her to convince Lord Jeremy that marrying her cousin, whose heart belongs to another, is a wrong thing to do. Unfortunately it seems that his Lordship doesn't believe in love. He has no regard for her cousin's feelings, and just to pay some old debt he is willing to enter what will be a very unhappy marriage. She despises the man for being so heartless. In any case the only thing left to do is that she takes her cousin's place as his wife....
Will they be able to make this marriage work? Or is their union doomed from the start. Both resent each other, and yet both are willing to do their duty... one in fear of scandal his family can't withstand and the other as a penance for her deception...
All in all it is a fun read. I enjoyed it and would recommend to any historical fiction fan who don't mind contrived plots, twists of events, unlikely couples, humor, romance, and a little bit of intrigue.
