This is a beautiful, kinky, and steamy read. I found myself falling in love with the story of Liz and Montague! I'm a big fan of erotic historical romance and definitely want to read more by Alyson Chase now!

The day her sister murdered their abusive father, Elizabeth Wilcox stopped being a gentleman’s daughter. Willing to do anything to save her sister from the hangman’s noose, now she is a spy... A servant. A liar. A thief. A submissive.
Masquerading as a parlor maid and entrenched in the Duke of Montague’s estate, Liz is willing to risk all to uncover the secrets that would save her sister. But submitting to the duke’s peculiar brand of discipline surprises her with a heady mixture of pleasure and pain. Eager to relinquish control of her messy life, Liz soon craves the rough hands of Montague and his powerful, passionate attentions. Can she succumb to the hot sting of his hand and the gentleness of his kisses without revealing her true identity and darkest secrets? And what punishment will she face when he realizes her betrayal?
The book was ok. The characters were ok. I had a number of issues with the book, but really it was a huge disappointment considering I was looking forward to a little extra to my normal historical romance read. I don’t recommend this one.

Love this kind of stories, hello, erotic historical romance, but I did not find myself as entertained with this one. I can’t pin point what it was, but the hero became annoying at times.

Sooooo.....

I mean.........

I wasn't a huge fan. This is typically the kind of book I love. But this one just kinda seemed....annoying? I'm not sure, but I just couldn't get into it. It was a quick read, and wasn't outright terrible, just not super great.

I absolutely adored this book, which was both a bit of a delightful surprise and the first step in laying a foundation of affection for everything that comes after this!

I was intrigued and excited to start this one!The plot was so interesting and I was so into the story that I couldn't put it down until the end!Elizabeth is a strong heroine, and I enjoyed her most of the time! There's so much more to this story than the BDSM aspect! My only complain is about the romance that it took a little bit longer than I was expected.

This is my first foray into erotic historical romance. The first thing that pleasantly surprised me was the story. I guess part of me thought the sexuality would be more "in your face." This was an historical romance that has a hotter sensuality level and references some taboo sexual practices, but it is a cohesive historical romance above all else. Nicely done and page-turning.

Disciplined By the Duke has very "light" bdsm, and more on the romance. I would purchase similar books from this author.

Intriguing...4.5 stars!

This is the first book I have read by Alyson Chase, and I found it quite an enjoyable read. Disciplined By The Duke was an intriguing and suspenseful read with a cohesive plot, characters that are well defined, plenty of emotional point of views for the hero and heroine, and just a bit of BDSM element to the story for interest.

Elizabeth Wilcox has been under the employ of Earl of Westmore since the day her sister was imprisoned for the murder of their abusive father. With the earl’s promise of helping to get Amanda out of Newgate Prison, Elizabeth agrees to his price for saving Amanda. So, her reality becomes a life of criminal deeds for the Earl of Westmore until her sister’s release.

But it has been a year since the imprisonment and Elizabeth is in despair for her sister while she wastes away in prison. Her final task is to steal information from the Duke of Montague while employed as a chamber maid in his household. She is left desperate and distraught over her forced nefarious actions, as she finds the duke an honorable man. The connection between Marcus, the Duke of Montague, and Elizabeth is instant. Marcus finds Elizabeth intriguing and mysterious and can’t resist her as she is more than what she seems. I loved the way Marcus takes Elizabeth in hand and opens a wealth of pleasure in her submission to him. Needless to say, Elizabeth is torn for her feelings for Marcus and having to steal for him. I loved how the relationship evolves and the satisfying ending of the story. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I received an ARC of this book from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Overall I enjoyed this book enough to warrant the stars I gave. The title intrigued me and definitely delivered on its promise. I liked how everything was consensual and aboveboard. That being said more on the aftercare may have helped the duke's characterization. Onto the story....

She is trying to save her sister and he is attempting to maintain control of his emotions and take care of his responsibilities. Her mission is to steal a letter from the duke so that her sister may be released from Newgate. Meanwhile he is a spy and has quite the network. She has quite the eye opening experience in his employ. Before anything irrecoverable happens she finds the letter and reads it. She realizes that she has a choice to make but her sister's life hangs in the balance. She leaves his employ and learns quite a bit about passion and when she wakes the next day she feels to save her sister. At the end of the book the sister is safe and Liz has to make a choice can she accept a life as his mistress or should she hope for something more?

There is a HEA and I got a preview of the sisters story after Newgate and can't wait to read it.

Elizabeth "Liz" Wilcox is trying to save her sister, who is in prison for killing their father. Liz thinks that getting help from Lord Westmore is how she is going to free Amanda. But what does Westmore want her to do?

Duke Marcus Montague is where Liz ends up, to pretend to be a maid so she can steal papers for Westmore. But the Duke is more than Liz ever thought he would be.

When Liz learns what she really has to steal, will she go through with it? Can Marcus believe she was only there to steal from him? Were the feelings between Liz and Marcus real?

I usually don't read historical romance, but I liked the synopsis of this story so I thought I would give it a try, and I am glad I did because I really liked it and can't wait for the next book.

For the first third of Disciplined by the Duke, I was hooked by the setting and the characters. It was everything I loved in a book, anchoring me – tension and buildup, and a plot that sinks its teeth in.

Elizabeth is a strong heroine, with a stronger need to protect her sister, a sister who is absent for the majority of the book. The martyr, Elizabeth is willing to do anything, which opens the door to the Earl of Westmore. Westmore is the perfect, nefarious villain, one readers love to hate. The villain employs the heroine to seduce the hero of the story.

Elizabeth enters the Duke of Montague's estate under the guise of being a new parlor maid, in the hopes of stealing a letter for Westmore.

I'm a big fan of historical romance, the steamier the better, but my mind began to wander due to a disconnect between the eroticism and the plot itself – they didn't mesh together, feeling separate on the whole. The cover and description are slightly misleading. With a series title of Lords of Discipline, Disciplined by the Duke was light on BDSM with sex scenes that felt more immature than the characters who were involved. The erotic scenes weren't salacious or explicit, but more sensual in nature.

What happened next occurs for me often – my reading taste rears its ugly head. The book pacing slows down when the between-the-sheets actions starts, and I begin to wish the book was a short novella, rather than a novel. I don't know if I'm explaining correctly – have you ever had a book feel longer than its page count? It 'reads' longer? My interests waned, removing that page-turning sensation.

I do recommend Disciplined by the Duke for fans of historical romance, who want to dip their toes into light BDSM. However, it wasn't to my reading tastes, needing more plot and character development to feel satisfaction in the heat between the characters.

I really enjoyed this forbidden historical romance! It had a bit of everything - especially some super hot and steamy scenes. I'm looking forward to checking out more by this author.

A servant. A liar. A thief. A submissive. And foremost a woman. A woman with desires, needs, expectations. . . This was a walk on the steamier side of historical romance. Spicy sexy tutorial in BDSM for one undercover maid that did little work and too much snooping and descent amount of discovery, of herself. While the premise was not new it was alluring to have a historical romance feel more like it melded in to the world of contemporary romance without being a time travel romance.

Liz finds herself in the role of being protector for her sister. She becomes entangled in a game that may cost her so much more than she has to loose. One final assignment was required of her to gain her sisters freedom. One final task to get on with her life. This final task proved to be a lot out of her realm of her upbringing. Her target a duke. Her downfall that same duke. Her savior . . . ?

Marcus was a duke that was not of the convention that his peers and the ton expected. He was a man that had his own way about himself. He was a man that knew so much more than was relied on the outside. He becomes widely intrigued by the new maid in the manor.

There's so much more to this story than the BDSM aspect, the historical aspects, the need to free her sister was even surpassed by the bond that takes place between Marcus and Liz. It took time an patience, but this new series has a descent start and I look forward to discovering the next steps in the Lords of Discipline series. This was the introduction needed to set the tone for the direction of this series.

This book was a bit slow going in the beginning for me. If it weren't for the chemistry and sexual tension that was set up this book would have fallen completely flat. Fortunately, once Marcus and Liz gave into their mutual attraction, I really enjoyed it. Yeah, there were some cheesy lines but overall I found it to be a satisfying read. I thought Marcus was refreshing. Once he recognized his feelings he had no problem going after what he wanted despite the laws of the world around him. Liz was perfect for him and really brought out the best in him throughout the story. A steamy read with a little BDSM. I thought this book was a solid start to the series and I'm looking forward to more from this author!

Don’t let the cliché plot fool you, this was a highly entertaining read with a little kink thrown in to liven up this regency romance.

Elizabeth Wilcox has been under the Earl of Westmore’s thumb for the last miserable year of her life. But with her sister held at Newgate and with each passing day, harder and harder to reach her, Elizabeth will make a pact with the devil to get her out. So if she finds her self stealing a few things here or there, her conscience is pricked but her determination to save her sister trumps it.

What should have been an easy job of posing as a maid to the Duke of Montague and retrieving a letter with a distinctive seal should have been easy enough. But when you add in state secrets, treason and a combustible chemistry with the lord of the house, things are anything but simple.

Marcus, the Duke of Montague has never had a problem resisting the help. For his darker tastes, there have always been women who would accommodate him. But Liz isn’t like anyone he’s ever dealt with, maid or lady. She’s curious, outspoken and makes him feel alive for the first time in a long while. But his work with the Crown has made Marcus more suspicious then most and Liz’ arrival plus her vague connection to Westmore send up some read flags.

What I liked:
The story was surprisingly well thought out and represented. I enjoyed both Liz and Marcus. Neither were your cookie cutter protagonists. They were complex and flawed and at times I had to push my limits but ultimately their actions and decisions were explained and I rooted for their HEA.

The story is a bit kinky but nothing OTT – it might even be considered too tame by some standards. I liked it, it had some spice but BDSM is a tricky terrain to navigate and I thought the author did great giving us just enough to titillate but not overwhelm.

I came to love the MCs and the secondary characters were great to keep the story light and funny at times. Loved the starchy butler and the sassy cook :) As for Liz’ sister, Amanda, and Marcus’ friend, Julius, I can’t wait to see how their story pans out. I’m bracing myself for a more deeply emotional read there due to Amanda’s history but I so want to see them overcome it and reclaim some happiness with each other.

What I didn't like:
There wasn’t much I didn’t like about this one. There are some subjects that are only slightly mentioned at that can be triggers for some and the H, although not a womanizer, does make too many references to past lovers. The comments are vague and not at all detailed but rather used to highlight his kink in the bedroom and also used to make him distance himself from Liz a few times.

I get that the times and their social statuses come into play but I do remember a few times, scrunching up my face whenever Marcus thought about finding OW to make him forget about Liz. It didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the story but it could have happened a little less and I probably wouldn’t even have remembered it. Lol :)

Memorable Moments:
The voyeurism scene when Liz is caught by Marcus. Not so much because of the scene they are watching (pretty non-sexual – at least on one side – spanking) but the chemistry between Liz and Marcus is at it’s highest at that point and I loved how tangible their connection was. Come to think of it, all the intimate scenes with Liz and Marcus were memorable. This author really knows how to write a sexy scene with both emotional and physical impact.

I am definitely keeping my eye on this author and the next in the series!
