I think this has been my favorite of the series so far....Sleeping Beauty has awakened ;)
*I actually read this in 2019 but for whatever reason I never finished my review so here goes.....
Lorenzo & Kira's story was my favorite of the series and I can say that now that I finished the last book. I enjoy Kira immensely, she knew she had her faults and she was trying to make up for them but when her father asked her to go undercover at De Santis Corporation as a spy she knew that she had to do it to gain his favor again. I hated that she felt that way because she was a kind person and never wanted to do any harm to anyone, she also suffered from ADHD which her parent ignored and didn't get her treatment for as a child.
Whereas Lorenzo was a bit of a hard ass, since he came off bullheaded all the time he really needed Kira to soften his hard sides. Lorenzo believes his father killed his mother so he is determined to figure out what his father is doing with the company when there is a discrepancy with the accounting books. Caesar de Santis is not the tuck your kids into bed and read them a bedtime story type of father so there is a lot of hurt and anger when it comes to Lorenzo's past.
This is the third book in the Billionaire Fairy Tales Series which follows the four de Santis brothers, each of the books can be read as a standalone. Start from the beginning or jump in now it doesn't matter because each story focuses on one brother and it doesn't end on a cliffhanger.
If you enjoy Fairy Tale Retelling's, Age Gap Romances, or Steamy Contemporary Romances then this is a book for you.
Happy Reading!!!
This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine, Lorenzo and Kira. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.
There are a lot of billionaire books out there but this one gives extra content making it so very worth reading. There hasn't been a book of Jackie Ashenden that I wouldn't recomend!
Themed as Sleeping Beauty (very very loosely) and read as a standalone in her modern fairytale series about the de Santis family.
No doubt Lorenzo’s an alpha-hole, but he rides a very fine line for the first half of the book. If I didn’t know how he’d helped her as a child, he wouldn’t be redeeming.
Book says published in 2017, so possibly before the full blown #metoo movement. It’s hard to not be repulsed by how he treated her in the office and keep it separate as an (already dated) trope vs. reality. The scene in his office is super hot and consensual but...
Also addresses ADHD, something I haven’t read for a main character and she did brilliantly. Lorenzo’s use of dominance (not full blown BDSM) to keep Kira focused was interesting.
This was an entertaining read. It was nice to see a flawed heroine for a change. The insta-love between Lorenzo and Kira wasn’t all that believable at first. I think he was a jerk and not exactly an alpha. I’m not sure how some readers would feel about this book if they read it today given the #metoo movement as in the first few scenes Lorenzo takes advantage of his position over Kira. Overall, it was an ok read.
THE BILLIONAIRE’S INTERN is a quick hot, raw, down and dirty read.
The story is about two damaged souls, one trying to completely dominate and obliterate the past and the other desperately seeking for approval in her life. I really dislike Lorenzo, but don't want to go into detail about his character. So I just leave it for other people to decide if he's the kind of hero they want in their lifes (NOT ME, THOUGH).
Kira is just so freaking brilliant and adorable. I like the fact that this book bring up issues we can relate to. It makes it more humane and believable in that aspect. However, Lorenzo and Kira together not so much believable. A relationship is more than sex, that matter how good that was for them, their connection was none-existant.
I received an ARC from St. Martin's Press in exchange for my honest review.
Absolutely hot and the perfect summer read. While the rich boss and the young woman seem to be overdone, Jackie Ashenden really builds a fun story that draws you in.
Jackie Ashenden is someone I need to read more of! The Billionaire's Intern was fast paced and easy to read and the characters Kira and Lorenzo were great becasue they really got you involved with your feelings; hard to describe but it wasnt read and turn page it was more read, have an internal conversation with yourself and then turn the page because you're completely caught up in the moment! Loved it!
Sleeping Beauty if my very favorite fairy tale, so I was super excited about The Billionaire's Intern. I love the idea of fairytales being rewritten romance-style. This one was okay. I thought Kira was relatable (albeit too needy at times), but would've really enjoyed a different hero than Lorenzo. He was just unenjoyable all around.
Okay I will be honest I have always loved Jackie Ashenden's writing and her unique way of weaving a tale and I have read other titles in this interconnected standalone series and though I enjoyed this title and the spin on the sleeping beauty fairytale. I just did not connect to the story as well as I have other titles by this amazing writer.
3.5
This story was OK, I didn't really like the characters. The characters lacked any depth for me and it seemed repetitive. I realized late into the story that it was supposed to be based of Sleeping Beauty, which seemed a little weird and I didn't really get.
Couldn’t get into this storyline. In parts it was slow and hard to read. Too over the top for my liking
***3.5 ‘#TeamKira’ Stars***
I’m in something of a conundrum over this one. It’s been a day or so since I finished it and I’m still waffling over the rating and what words to put down to convey how I felt/feel about the book as a whole. It’s honestly quite distressing. But I’m going to give a go and see what comes of it, even if it turns into something more akin to verbal vomit rather than something coherent.
Kira, I adored. She hasn’t had an easy life, but she has also made certain choices that have ended in tragedy, but the woman who has come out of all of that has accepted her role and wants to be more. She wants to be someone who brings change and understanding instead of chaos. Lorenzo is, as far as the world is concerned, stone cold. He is curt, cold, intimidating and calculating...all of which he isn’t ashamed to admit to. But underneath the ice, he’s living with so much guilt it’s suffocating and though he cares about more than he’d ever admit to, his fear of letting any of that out has him keeping it on complete lock down.
Kira and Lorenzo’s journey was an interesting one considering all the ties that bound them together. I’ll admit that there were times I wanted to smack Lorenzo, but it was all part of the process and it was always intriguing to see just how much Kira’s reactions, or lack thereof, affected the seemingly untouchable man. Things take a while to catch fire, but once it does the chemistry between them is undeniable and I found it interesting how they both ended up waking and becoming who they were meant to be in the end.
So, that ended up being more coherent that I thought it would be, so YAY me *grin* but now for why I was waffling. This book started out great, but somewhere in the middle my interest waned when it came to the story and I got a little bored. Things did pick up, and I obviously pushed through and came out liking the book, but I can’t ignore the fact that I did skim a bit in hopes that I’d stop on something that would have me wanting to continue. (Okay, that is all kinds of vague, but I warned you) This can be read as a standalone, but I was very happy that I read The Billionaire Beast since Nero does pop up in this book and does a little arse kicking which only made me love him more.
While I didn’t absolutely love The Billionaire’s Intern, I still enjoyed it and thought that, for a novella, was well done and gave more of an emotional gut punch than I thought it would. So, if you’re looking for a quick, smexy read with heart then I’d give this one a go!
Another great story by Ashenden. This is a modern fairy tale, romance, and a good dose of espionage. Everyone gets left with one question; what comes next from this author. No cliffy with this one so get ready for a ride!
This is the first story that I read by this author and will definitely not be my last. I was immediately enticed by this story who I read the blurb and immediately started to read it. Once I started I couldn't put it down wanting to know what was going to happen next in this story.I enjoyed the characters and the relationship between the main characters. There was plenty of hot and steamy moments throughout the story that was off the charts. This had everything I enjoy is a steamy romance novel.
I voluntarily read an advanced reviewers copy of this book
I am huge Jackie Ashenden fan but I have to admit that this was not my favorite book in the series. The nurse in me could not get over the fact that Kira literally had a condition that could be treated but she walked around like a victim. I could understand when she was a child she didn't know what was wrong and her family did not help her but as an adult...COME ON...get it taken care of instead behaving like a naïve girl that can be used by... everyone!
If you ignore that one major flaw in Kira and the other big elephant in the room...that Lorenzo was a jerk and a user...then you will love this book. It had passion and tons of romance.
To be fair, Jackie did a great job creating these characters because if you did not see their flaws then you would not be able to appreciate how much stronger they became after meeting each other.
I didn't care for the book at all. I find that it is something that had to grip me from the beginning to continue to read this and this one did not. If at sometime in the future I go back and read the book and enjoy it I will change my rating and review.
Lorenzo de Santis, CFO of DS Corp, is sure that his father, Cesare de Santis, is diverting money from the company, but he needs to find out how. With the support of his half brother, Nero, a computer expert, they have been trying to track down all of their father's negotiations. Unsuccessfully.
Until Ivan Constantin, head of DS Corp's account department, insists that his daughter Kira works there as Lorenzo's intern.
At first Lorenzo dismisses the idea, not wanting to waste time in teaching a problematic girl to be a responsible one, but something inside warns to him that this could be a signal for its goal.
Kira is a girl who has always been invisible to her parents and, over time, has become a major disappointment.
After getting involved in a serious car accident, with victims, and leaving college, she wants to show that she has changed and has a dream, something to be done to help others with the same problem as her. For this, her father promises to fund her dream IF she finds out something for him, being Lorenzo's intern.
The problem is that Kira always had a crush on Lorenzo. Something related to the past. And now, being so close to him could be a blessing... or a curse.
Lorenzo realizes that Kira had potential, but was neglected by her parents and was "asleep" for many things in life.
Could he be the enchanted prince who would wake the Sleeping Beauty?
A modern fairy tale, with a good dose of espionage, romance, and a question: what will happen next?
No cliffhanger. I don't give 5 stars just because I think the solution was too fast, but the love story was very good.
4,5 stars
**My thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press, for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is the third book in the series and can be read as a stand alone book as the brothers do not really communicate or cross wires.
Lorenzo is older than Kira, but we never really can a drop on their ages, but we know that it must be at least ten years. Kira has looked up to Lorenzo since he helped her out at a do when she was around 10 and in her teens had a crush.
Now, the woman she has become has a thing for him, while he after his experiences just has preconceived ideas about her that turn out to be completely wrong.
Both have fears to get over, but it is not long before Kira warms up Lorenzo's heart towards her without him having realised how much.
Both can relate to each other and find strength and understanding where others have not given it where it was needed before.
Another great book in the series and i cannot wait for the next book.
Super hot but also a really good story with a sweet and steamy romance!
