Tense thriller with very complex characters, didn't work it out till nearly the end. Looking forward to the next one.
I have read Danielle Girard's books for years and all of them are great! This is the second in the Dr. Schwartzman series and although it kept me reading it was a bit slow . I loved the first book in the series but this one lacked the thrills of the first book. I am hoping the 3rd and maybe finale to this series with be much better. The reason for the killings were a bit strange and way to unbelievable. I love the characters of Anna and Hal and absolutely love reading about them . I do look forward to the next book because I have to find out if Anna and Spencer meet again.
Brilliant book very good storyline. It kept me interested throughout.
Love this series! I highly recommend reading the first book before delving into this one. While it can standalone as a story, the background info from the first book will help you understand parts of this one better :)
I liked Excise, the 2nd book in the series even more than the first. I don't normally read medical mystery books, but the way this one is written keeps me hooked. I liked that the point of view changed with a few of the characters throughout the book. This book works as a standalone, but I like the series so I would recommend starting with Exhume (book 1). I am already looking to Book #3.
Interesting approach to a murder mystery: based in cancer treatment, The heroine is dealing with cancer treatment while the victim, a surgeon who treated her, is killed by a chemotherapy agent,a particularly nasty one. Having had that same treatment, I did find inconsistencies in her experience but I guess that may have been some literary license.
She is also dealing with the past trauma of a vicious killer, her ex husband.
The story is complex, lots of intersecting relationships.
The frustrating aspect of this book is the constant allusions to past events and people maybe having read the books in order would have made this a better read. I kept waiting for the explanations of who the people were, what had happened, and why. These were hard to find and made the story a lot less linear as a stand alone book.
A short recap could have made this and the ertns a lot more meaningful in the context of what was happening in the woman's' mind and I don't think would have taken away from the mystery or momentum.
I won't say it was a fun read, and I figured out who did it pretty quickly .
It was comforting to see however, that others found that particular 'cure' as awful as I did.
