Kiss Me In New York was absolutely adorable! The characters were very relatable, I loved when they went to the tattoo parlor, I couldn't help but think about myself ( I have a few tattoos that im like yikes and need a cover up for them, knowing my luck my cover up would turn out crappy too lol ) Charlotte was a girl from England trying to find her a way in the world after a breakup from Colin. She is stranded at the airport and just wants to go home. The airport gives her a hotel room but she is upset and does not want to spend the holidays alone in a hotel, She meets a boy who just got dumped by his girlfriend in a bookstore. Charlotte takes a cab and sees the boy from the bookstore, which is where the adventure really takes off. She has a book about rules to get over an ex, Charlotte and this boy decide to take an adventure around New York and follow rules from her book which leads them through alot of fun moments, she is determined to make the most out of her trip before getting back on that plane to head home. Anthony's been in a long-distance relationship for about six months now with a girl who's been away at college. But when he goes to the airport in an effort to surprise her, she dumps him on the spot, followed by a passionate make-out session with a guy she'd obviously been cheating on him with. Both heartbroken and stuck with nowhere to go and nothing to do on Christmas Eve. Using a book called Ten Easy Steps For Getting Over Your Ex, Charlotte and Anthony find themselves slowly growing closer as they go on one adventure after another. This was a quick and easy read, if you like light fluffy romances I would recommend this one. It takes place around Christmas, with snow! I mean who doesn't love snow?!?! It had heartbreak, laughter, misadventure and love. So cute! Thank you Netgalley for the free ARC ♡
I loooved this book. It was short, easy to read, very cute, funny and left me wanting more. What I loved the most was that everything happens in a day, making me fell like I was exploring New York with Charlotte and Anthony.
Pro: This was so adorable, and I really had fun traveling around NYC as they tried to complete the Ten Easy Steps for Getting Over Your Ex. I wore a grin on my face for most of this book, and laughed a whole bunch too.
Pro: Both Charlotte and Anthony were delightful and I know if they were real people, we would be fast friends. They also were great together. Their interactions and banter were quite amusing, and even when stuff got real and they got real, there was always this connection between them that was easy to spot.
Con: I was very excited when the epilogue featured a time jump. I love getting that peek into the future of my characters' lives, however, this jump was not enough to answer a BIG question I had. It was hopeful, so I wasn't all bent out of shape, but I wish we had jumped a little further into the future, so I could have had that closure I so needed.
Pro: I liked that Rider built in the possibility that there could be a future between Charlotte and Anthony. You would think that Charlottes's semester abroad is ending, she is going back to England, and "goodbye, Anthony", but that was not the case.
Pro: Both Anthony and Charlotte had great families. Charlotte's interactions are over the phone with her family, as they are in England, but you can feel the love and the warmth. Anthony has a wonderful big Italian family, but this is a difficult Christmas for them, as they are still grieving a great loss. The Christmas dinner was quite touching, and it may have brought a few tears to my eyes.
Overall: This book was exactly what I needed when I read it. It was so cute and adorable. It warmed me from the inside out and left a dopey grin on my face.
I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review. I appreciate the opportunity.
I'm wavering at a 2.5/3 for this story. I love Christmas stories. I love one nights together, running around the city and falling in love stories. I love New York, especially at the holidays.
But this one didn't....quite hit the mark. I mean, it's Christmas in New York, and not one of the major Christmas trees are seen on this quest through the city? Rockefeller Center, South Seaport, none of the museums, Lincoln Square, none of the Christmas festivals are discussed (and there is one in every major park so it's not like they're avoidable.) It's almost told like it's from the perspective of someone who doesn't actually live in or hasn't experienced Christmas time in New York and literally all of it's magic.
Outside of that, I couldn't get past the constant "reading my look" or "having a conversation just through looks..." and then at one point Charolette even goes "we've only known each other a few hours how does he expect me to understand his look!?" right before he kissed her. We'll you have been all night....
Final issuance: Charlotte tells her ex she loves him at Lincoln Center. Later, she talks about doing it at Rockefeller Center. Just an edit that didn't get caught. Like all the missed italicized television show names.
As for the book itself, it's cute. It's exactly what it says it is — just like a Hallmark movie classic. Why Charlotte was in the city is a bit weird, but that's okay, and as someone who has to go to JFK frequently, straying too far from the airport is odd.
Also, I can't tell what the relationship between Anthony and his brother is supposed to be — not enough there to completely understand honestly.
I really enjoyed this book. It's a romantic comedy and doesn't hide from that but it's not overly predictable and the characters were both generally likeable. The plot is told through a dual narrative and sometimes this can distract but in this case I think it really worked. The two voices were distinct enough to be believable and it actually aided rather than detracted from the narrative. I found myself willing the good guys on and even came to enjoy the addition of Mistake, which at first I was hesitant about. At this point I should admit there was one point in the book where I cried my own tears (for all the right reasons) which I think is the mark of a book I've invested in. It's not a challenging read, so if you're someone who prides yourself on "intelligent" literature this may not be your cup of tea, but it is an enjoyable one and that's why I read novels - to relax and enjoy. Perfect for a cup of tea, a duvet and hiding away from the world.
This was a cute, super sweet young adult romance. I enjoyed reading about the adventures Charlotte and Anthony got into by following they book to get over their exes. There was some funny as well as touching parts in the book. I think this would make a great read for a teen or Young adult looking for a romantic book. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy for my honest review.
This book felt a little like the Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight...it was similar, but different enough that I enjoyed it without feeling like it was too similar.
Charlotte fell too hard too fast and gets dumped hard and fast by an arsehole. She's naïve, but in a cute and quirky way.
Much like Charlotte, Anthony fell hard and fast. And...got dumped similarly.
Charlotte and Anthony meet in an airport and spend the book exploring NYC on Christmas Eve/Day.
It's cute, it's light, it's easy to read. Great little read.
Kiss Me in New York takes place in the Big Apple on Christmas Eve. It is a sweet, if formulaic, romance especially for the Holiday Season. I adore the cover art which captures the feel of the book exactly. Recommended for readers of romance who like a light, quick read.
I enjoyed the concept, but it seemed a little crazy that a girl would willing go out in the city with a guy she didn't know. The middle became a little redundant. It did pick up towards the end and finished on a high note.
I don't normally read this genre of book (contemporary romance) but I thought I'd give it a whirl, see if my mind has changed. Overall, this was a cute book. It wasn't anything overly memorable, but I finished it in three sittings. The premise is neat and the characters are certainly likeable. I found myself rooting for them to get together in the end. Rider does a really good job in painting NYC in this novel. My knowledge of the city ends with google maps, TV and movies, but she wrote a rich world I had no problem visualizing. My only thing is I wonder if this might have been better suited with older characters (early twenties instead of late teens)? Either way, I enjoyed it and know a friend who would be all over this.
Kiss Me in New York is a contemporary, sweet teen romance. Set in New York City on Christmas Eve and told in first person by chapters alternating between Charlotte and Anthony. Charlotte is an exchange student from England and her boyfriend, Colin, recently broke up with her. Heartbroken, she just wants to leave New York as soon as possible and arrives at the airport early. To bide her time before her flight, she goes into a bookstore and through a mix up gets a book titled Get Over Your Ex in Ten Easy Steps!. New Yorker, Anthony is at the airport to surprise his girlfriend, Maya and to spend Christmas with her, but Maya breaks up with Anthony and reveals that she has been seeing someone else right in the middle of the airport. Charlotte finds out that her flight is cancelled and she that will have to wait for a flight at 9am the next day. Anthony really does not want to go home. They are both sitting a bench in the airport figuring out what to do next, when Charlotte drops her book on Anthony’s foot. She thinks since that they have been dumped recently, they should try the steps to have an adventure or a “Story”. Still angry about Maya, Anthony insults Charlotte and then leaves. Charlotte decides to have own adventure, but ends up in the same cab as Anthony. Feeling bad about how he acted earlier, Anthony decides to try the steps with Charlotte. The steps take them all over New York and involve new looks, buying a puppy, meeting with old friends, helping people, and facing fears. Through their adventures, Charlotte and Anthony learn more about themselves and a romance between them blooms.
The story has a fast pace and good characters. Taking place in about 12 hours, the story moves fast and does not slow. The plot moves with chapters told in first person by Charlotte and Anthony, giving the reader each of their perspectives. The characters are good, but some are stereotypes. Charlotte was kind and spunky, but was much too hung up on Colin. Anthony was nice and low key, but he could get annoying with his nitpicking. Despite getting a tattoo of Maya’s name on his arm and dating her longer, Anthony was not as upset and heartbroken by his breakup with Maya as Charlotte was by her breakup with Colin. Their exes, Colin and Maya, are the stereotypical evil exes, mean and selfish. One thing that bothered me was how being a vegan was portrayed. Being a vegan is not some superficial California thing that is all about diet, veganism is a lifestyle about kindness and compassion for animals and the environment. Maya was just on a plant-based diet, she was not a true vegan. The romance between Charlotte and Anthony is not exactly insta-love. Even though they did not know each other long, Charlotte and Anthony did learn a lot about each other over the course of 12 hours and did not immediately fall in love, their feelings toward each other slowly grow. The story does not have any racy scenes, the most that happens is kissing. No fights or violent scenes either. The story ends as expected in a book that places in one day, but could have used an epilogue. I liked this book and would check others by the author team. A cute teen Christmas romance perfect for fans of Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.
Beautiful story of young love. The book has a little bit of Before Sunrise and Sleepless in Seattle so if you like these movies, there is a pretty good chance that you’ll love this book. I also like that this a Christmas love story, I always try to get some of this kind of stories for this this time of the year. Very romantic and sweet; both hero and heroine are likeable and their story left me wanting more of them. Overall, a very entertaining read and worthy of spending an evening in reading it.
"So, look for a door. Theres always a way out. There's always a new path. But you can't find it if you stand still, you know what I mean?"
I thought this was going to be super cliche. . . but it started out pretty different than usual. IT was a very unusual start that left me impressed and really kept me reading.
While the plot in general is kinda cliche, the style of how it was written is pretty unique, appreciated the little twists of. . . well. . . everything to be honest. The character-to-character interactions are pretty cute and I enjoyed them a whole lot. But, I felt like everything was happening too fast, in a way.
I love the idea of having a book that 'helps you forget about your ex',,,, i am amused by the whole idea of it.
This had a very anticipating and intriguing writing style.
Appropriate for teen and YA readers who are in need of a romantic read. XD
"I don't know how this story goes or how it ends. . . but i want to find out,"
Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the ARC.
Kiss me in New York is a quick easy read. It's about two people who come together after a nasty break up.
Charlotte and Anthony meet at JFK airport where Anthony was dumped right infront of Charlotte after his long distance girlfriend, Maya returns from California. While Charlotte who's boyfriend dumped her two weeks before is on her way back home in England.
The stroy starts when Charlotte's flight get delayed due to bad weather and Anthony on the other hand is in no mood to go home to celebrate Christmas eve.
It might sound like a clichéd serendipity meets November 9 insta love story but it's definitely not. I was proved wrong as well. The story takes place in a span of eight hours, which sets the perfect pace for the book. The book will make you chuckle at times, frustrated at a certain character's decisions and then make you hold your breath towards the end. Definitely a breather after reading emotionally heavy books or a long series. I'd totally recommend it!
Enjoyed reading a chick lit, you can guess what will happen.
So Kiss Me In New York was a book I requested since it had all the elements I usually enjoy in a rom com, it's Christmas time , it's set in New York City and the meeting of both characters is in the airport. Add the fact that both Charlotte and Anthony are really characters you could get into gives me a new adult rom com that becomes memorable. I really love how the story develops between these two. The writing was humorous, honest in its reflections about human emotions and wonderful in the way it incorporated the magic of the season in New York City with Charlotte and Anthony's evolving relationship. Perfect for the holiday season.
This was a pretty cute book, although it took me a while to get into the story. The characters are quirky, and a little zany, and their meet cute is pretty unique. Overall, I really enjoyed it.
Cute story. At times i felt like the characters were constantly telling me how much better the other was than their ex but overall a nice little romance. I felt like i was traveling through New York with Charlotte and Anthony
Started off pretty good but got cheesier and cheesier as it went on. Still pretty sweet though, and I was in a good mood. Although, I read this sunbathing at the pool which was possibly the totally wrong time of the year??? It was an easy and enjoyable read though, even if Macy's at Christmas made me sweat even more at the thought of snow and cold air and warm coats.
Lovely setting. Perfect storyline, and wonderful setting. All came together perfectly. Couldnt have changed anything to make it any better
