Patrick's parents are the leads from one of my favourite highlander romances EVER, Seduced by the Highlander. So I couldn't wait to read about Patrick and the lady who would knock him off his feet!

My favourite aspect of this book is the slow burn romance. All too often in historical romances, the leads jump into their passionate affair and the rest gets left behind. So not the case here! Their attraction is palpable from the start but watching that connection grow into something more was fabulous. These two are a great pair who complement each other wonderfully and seeing them discover that was such a treat.

My only wish is that the ending didn't feel as rushed. The vast majority of this book is Charlie and Patrick fighting their budding feelings and Patrick keeping his true identity a secret. But there are so many other things at play (like the clan rivalry and past events) and I feel like they don't reach their peak until the last 20%. I think some of that could have been brought out earlier and played out a little more to enhance this story.

Nevertheless, highlander fans will love this one! This book reminded me why I love highlander romances and why I should be picking them up more often!

Darn I can’t believe it! This is the first Paula Quinn book that I didn’t just love and never want it to end. The book still had all the great qualities of a great character development and a journey to a better person. I just wasn’t feeling the plot. Patrick also didn’t catch my fancy. He just loved himself too much in the beginning and I never warmed to him.

Not my favorite book

Being a fan of Paula Quinn's, I always look forward to her new books. The Scot's Bride Was with the wait. I have fallen in love with Camlochin and the MacGregor/Grant family. This book centers around Patrick, a wanderer and somewhat of a rogue. He stumbles upon a small bar on his why to visit family. What he finds there changes his life forever. This book is filled with so many emotions my heart was breaking and cheering throughout the pages, for those readers who enjoy tales of forbidden love, love lost, love found and as always HEA you must pick up this latest book of Paula Quinn.

A thrill seeking adventure of lust, love and rivalries. Paula Quinn is continuing the tradition of authors like Johanna Lindsey, Judith McNaught, Karen Hawkins and so many others. With roguish warriors and spirited heroines, Ms. Quinn sets about laying siege to more than just the heart. She infiltrates the imagination. The Scot's Bride is a welcome edition to any romance lover's bookshelf.

Patrick MacGregor loved the ladies and loved his life just the way it was, answering to no one and charming his way through life. He vowed no woman would tie him down until he lays eyes on Charlotte Cunningham. Charlotte knew Patrick was like every other scoundrel she has met and vowed she needed no man in her life.

Paula Quinn can write a Highland romance like nobody else! The story moves very quickly from page one until you get to the end. Every scene is very descriptive and you feel like you are brought right into the story. The plot moves very quickly and keeps your interest all through the book. The hero is very strong and so full of confidence and charm you can’t help but love him. The heroine has many strengths of her own but is not so overwhelming in her relationship with the hero and they are very well balanced in their role with each other. There is a very nice twist to the plot that you definitely don’t see coming toward the end of the story that I just loved! This author has done a great job with this addition to the MacGregor family and I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Endearing, well-developed and relatable characters populate this book. It is definitely a nice read. I did notice a couple of what I guess I’d call ‘plot holes’, but, if those had been done differently, I would have been reading a different book – and I liked this one.

Charlotte (Charlie) Cunningham is an enchanting, lovely young woman who has absolutely no use for men whatsoever. She has learned a hard lesson from her father and brothers. You can’t trust any man – not even those who are supposed to love and care for you. She had loved Kendrick forever and her father and brothers murdered him (he was barely 15) to keep her from marrying him. Five years later she still passionately hates them and is just biding her time before she leaves for good. First, however, she must find a treatment and/or cure for her sister’s asthma. To do that, she sneaks out at night and visits taverns and other locations seeking out visiting physicians.

Patrick MacGregor is a charming rogue whose smile and charming words can get him out of almost any situation. If the smile and words aren’t enough he is a strong, quick almost invincible warrior. He has always avoided responsibility because he loved being able to go when and where he wanted with no entanglements. Currently, he is on his way to visit with his uncles (Ferguson’s) when he stops in a tavern for a meal and a drink and sees a shadowy figure move through the tavern – and their eyes lock.

Charlie’s family have long been enemies with the Ferguson’s and that feud renewed when Charlie’s father ordered Kendrick to be murdered. The Ferguson’s retaliated by attacking the Cunningham’s and Charlie’s mother was one of the casualties.

When Patrick is captured by the Cunningham’s he claims to be a Campbell and is welcomed into the fold. Charlie’s greedy, arrogant father hopes for a marriage match between her and the powerful Campbell’s. As Patrick and Charlie spend time together, more and more of their shields drop. Can they drop those shields and find their HEA or will an unexpected twist tear them apart? You’ll just have to read the story to see what happens.

Now – to me, one of the biggest holes has to do with Elsie’s illness. The Fergusons and Cunningham’s were friends before Kendrick was murdered – or at least the mothers were. So, why wouldn’t they have known of her illness (she’d had it since early childhood) and they could have offered the cure? She was also secretly seeing their son and surely he would have known. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

I hate that Robbie Dunbar died and I saw absolutely no reason for it.

We saw little of Charlie’s father. I think he would have been better featured as an antagonist. He was just sort of there and very dull. You would have thought he would have been a bigger villain. You have to wonder what he thought of Kendrick being found alive and what he would have done about it.

I liked Duff, but some reviewers didn’t. He is a tortured, very tortured, young man. He’s lost the love of his sister. He is guilty of a sin by omission rather than by commission. That doesn’t make him any less guilty, but it does make him at least a tad more sympathetic. Maybe he’ll get his redemption in the next book.

I would have liked to see more of Patrick’s parents toward the end of the book. The reception back on Skye was just a little too vague.

“I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.”

Charlotte Cunningham is a woman on a mission to save her sister. She doesn’t need any man and she is content guarding herself from heartbreak. However, she is failing at succumbing to Patrick MacGregor’s charming rogue ways.

Patrick MacGregor finds himself in a tricky situation. He doesn’t want anyone to find out his true identity since his family has a long list of enemies. He plays it real dangerous when he meets Charlotte.

Of course, the novel is well written but there are some minor plot issues that left me wondering why the author failed to close up the gap. There is an issue with the circumstances surrounding some of the past characters from previous books when revelations are revealed. There was no explanation to how everyone felt once a secret was revealed.

Patrick and Charlotte are charismatic characters. They banter and easy flow between help to get through some of the stifling inner dialogue. Of course, I love that Charlotte is strong in her own ways like many of the female character Ms. Quinn writes about. She doesn’t fall all over Patrick and they find themselves building a cute friendship.

Once his true background is revealed to her, all hell breaks loose and tension brews. They still can’t fight the temptation. Despite the minor quirks, fans of medieval historical romances will enjoy this easy, light read.

Publisher's Description:

AN IRRESISTIBLE SCOUNDREL
Highlander Patrick MacGregor likes his life just the way it is. Fighting for his coin, enjoying a woman's charms, and bearing no responsibility at all. Aye, that's the life for him. That is, until Patrick sees her-a raven-haired beauty with eyes as dark as midnight. Patrick swore never to fall in love. Not even with a lass as wild as he...especially when she's from a rival clan.

AN UNDENIABLE DESIRE
Charlotte Cunningham knows Patrick is trouble the moment she sets eyes on him. Her only goal is to escape the possibility of marriage. Any marriage. But as the summer days turn into sultry nights, enticing her beyond reason, Charlie is forced to choose between the freedom she craves and the reckless rogue she can't forget.

In the New York Times bestselling tradition of Lynsay Sands, Hannah Howell, and Karen Hawkins comes a new book in Paula Quinn's new sinfully sexy Scottish romance series.

My Thoughts:

With well developed and intriguing characters and a winner of a storyline, Paula Quinn has created another book for the keeper shelf.

Patrick never wants to marry but after an exhausting couple of days fighting for coin he finds himself in the bed of the wrong lass. Particularly after he had decided he didn't want her after all.
All he wants is a soft bed to rest in when her jealous suitor breaks in on the two of them and proceeds to pummel Patrick. But the brute doesn't get the best of Patrick and the following day he continues his journey only to find the lass that actually caught his notice.
Charlie (Charlotte) was immediately attracted to the highlander but is he a member of the clan they are feuding with? So she takes her sling and knocks him unconscious. He awakes to find himself tied up in a barn.
Will the immediate attraction between Charlotte and this handsome stranger turn into something more or will she turn away from him when she discovers his relationship to her families enemy?
I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames. The intimacy is not immediate nor is it frequent but it is sensual none the less.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

So far, I like the characters. Patrick is the handsome Scotsman, and Charlie is the lovely maid. But Charlie is smarter than most of her family gives her credit for.; which made me like her all the more. Patrick is determined not to fall in love, but he finds himself doing just that. Charlie is determined never to be married, she would rather take her younger sister, and live alone. Her younger sister has asthma (though its only implied, never stated) and as a consequence, is considered the "sickly" child by their father. As time goes on, Patrick and Charlie start to become close, which is always nice to see. I like that Charlies character frequently outsmarts those around her, and her brain is appreciated by Patrick.

Great sexy fun read. Paula Quinn is anything bit short of brilliance. Great book.

This was another great Highland romance from Paula Quinn. I've been following along with the MacGregor saga since the very first book. This author never fails to capture my full attention with her absolutely lush stories and amazing characters.

This series is so rich in history. Patrick is the son of Tristan and Isobel and let's just say that the apple didn't fall far from the tree with him. Like his father before him Patrick was a handsome, lovable, scoundrel who had no intention of ever settling down. He never wanted a wife or any responsibility until Charlie came along and claimed his heart. However, their entire relationship began with a big lie that soon snowballed into a lot of little ones. Poor Patrick couldn't seem to catch a break.

One of the things that I love about any Paula Quinn book is that they are sure to be beautifully written. I loved how Patrick kept thinking about his father and how much he missed his family back at Camlochlin. This was a treat for me since Tristan and Isobel's book still remains my favorite one in this series. It's the romantic in me that loves it when the unrepentant rogue gets tamed by his woman. There was a good mystery in this one, a long lost family connection, and a twist that you won't see coming until it happens.

The Scot's Bride is another wonderful addition to the MacGregor Series. I loved it and can't wait for the next book.

Patrick MacGregor is a rogue who is thoroughly enjoying his rakish ways as he traveled to visit his uncles, that is, until he is captivated by a beautiful young woman. Charlotte "Charlie" Cunningham doesn't trust men and when Patrick tries to approach her, she knocks him out with her sling. When he is brought back to her family home, Patrick hides his identify as kin to the Cunningham's enemy, the Fergusons. The more he talks to Charlie, the more he is cast under her spell--not only her beauty, but her kind heart as she helps the villagers who struggle under her father and brother's harsh rule. Patrick resists falling for her and Charlie refuses to get close to the rake.

Ms. Quinn has written another wonderful story with witty banter and fully-fleshed out characters. I loved how Patrick's compassion and kind heart was slowly revealed, but I found there was too much internal dialogue for both characters. The same things were repeated over and over again and that got old pretty fast. There was a good twist at the end that kept me turning the pages. Fans of Scottish romances will definitely enjoy this story.

It was so much fun watching Patrick MacGregor fall to the "curse" of love that all of his relatives before him fell. He has run from the ideals of his childhood and revels in his rogue and wandering lifestyle, so when he meets Charlie he knows he should run for the hills and not look back but he can't for the life of him leave. He knows what is happening and knows what she could mean to him but he keeps deluding himself into thinking he can handle it and leave once he has won her as a conquest. Charlie has no need for a man and in fact sees all men as the same; greedy, self-centered, and cruel beings. She knows Patrick is bad news but she can't stop thinking about him or wanting his kiss. Their journey was so enjoyable and I really enjoyed watching Patrick fall in love. His internal struggle and the fact that he convinced himself that he can resist falling for her was just fun.  The conflict was great. The villain was strong. There were surprises and suspense and emotional turmoil that kept me coming back for more. Loved it and love Paula Quinn's take on historical romance.

The Scot's Bride, by Paula Quinn is a historical romance focused on highlanders, fighting and revenge, family connections, romance and love, and plenty of secrets.

Charlotte "Charlie" Cunningham tries to protect her sister and the villagers, while attempting to continually escape saying marriage vows to maintain her limited freedom. When she unsuspectingly meets Patrick MacGregor, Charlie is attracted, yet doesn't want to give into a reckless rogue.

Patrick is satisfied with his lifestyle of fighting and seducing, until he meets the lovely Charlie and thinks he might make a change. Unfortunately, there are serious issues between their families, and Patrick has to hide his true name from Charlie's family. As the story continues, there's plenty of drama, fighting, and secrets amidst the intense romance between Patrick and Charlie.

Even though it's the sixth book in The MacGregors: Highland Heirs series, it's not necessary to read the series in order, since this book may be read as a stand-alone.

The Scot's Bride is geared towards those who enjoy reading highlander romances.

Not the typical historical romance, suspense book. Way darker then expected. Was disappointed in the tone that can endure bad triggers.
