An enjoyable short story with a touch of humor of 2 people afraid to admit how they feel about each other till events go awry & truths revealed . Meriel & Quinn are delightful. You can't help but root for them to reach for their HEA.
A fake abduction, an accidental stabbing and a secret tryst all leads to revealed spies and matters of the heart.
Widow Meriel Vyse longs for a normal quite life free of spying for her brother in law. Quinn Raines a working man who's hoping to prove his worth to the woman he loves.
Meriel knows she needs to end her secret trysts with Quinn, a man of means will want nothing to do with her if he learns her secrets. Quinn must prove to Meriel that he's worth fighting for.
Fast, fun and sexy read!
Sabrina Jeffries never fails to deliver. A good well-written historical romance. Enjoyed!!
Meriel is a widow who is enamored of Raines. Raines is a banker from a very dignified family. Meriel has a past which is not the least bit dignified and she does not believe Raines could fall in love with someone like her.
Raines stages an abduction to prove his love to Meriel. She accidentally stabs him.
This is a typical story by Ms Jeffries. Her characters are people charming this reader likes very much. The plot is entertaining and very well written. And she makes you laugh.
This is a quick read. Everything about this story is enjoyable. And one more time, Ms Jeffries has provided me with a terrific story.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are my own.
For a novella, this felt like a very complete story. A lady with a secret past and the man who loves her. Fun and well written.
A marvelous short story. Quinn and Muriel is a couple whose story you will love to get to know. Filled with intrigue.
An awesome cute story, that takes place all within a few hours.

really liked it
A super novella that goes from a to z quickly! This writer seems to captivate me with the way she can tell a story and you do not feel rushed or that the plot is missing something! I sincerely enjoyed reading where the relationship happens quickly and the rest is tied up along the way to the end! I will not give any spoilers so just buy the story and sit and enjoy! I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom
A cute short story! Mrs. Meriel Vyse, widow, works for her brother-in-law Baron Fulkham gathering information at social events. She is in love with Quinn Raines, a banker, but feels she owes Fulkham for the help he gave her when she needed it. A surprise attack in her and rescue by Quinn leads to a HEA. There is more going on and I won't ruin the plot. Thank you to Sabrina Jeffries for the ARC. Release date is October 2nd.
Meriel Vyse isn't sure about the way her life is going. She has been working for her husband's brother as a spy but she hates the work. And getting to know Quinn Raines has really made her long for a normal life.
Quinn Raines is also in love with Meriel which is why he fakes a kidnapping (really?) so that he can "rescue" her. Little does he know she's perfectly capable of rescuing herself. He finds out when she pulls a knife from her reticule and stabs him.
At under 50 pages, that really is pretty much the whole story. It's a nice story though short. Very, very short.
Three stars
This book comes out October 2
This is a VERY short story about two secondary characters that we met in the previous books in this series that also partly sets the stage for the upcoming full length novel about Baron Fulkham.
While the idea of the hero pressing his suit with a fake abduction that turns against him is painted in a funny way, I fear lengthwise there was simply not enough space to explore the romance in depth and this read may therefore feel unsatisfactory to some readers.
A short and sweet novella about Quinn and Meriel which shows all the silly things people do when they are in love. I liked both the hero and heroine's characters and was charmed by the crazy way that Quinn tried to win over Meriel.
* I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review*
I really liked this novella. The only thing I didn't like about the book was that it was over so quickly. I enjoyed getting to see the Hero and Heroine's point of view. I'm pretty certain they've popped up in other books in this series, so it was nice for them to get their own spotlight. It also made me want to reread the books in the Sinful Suitors series. So, that's great!
You don’t always feel completely satisfied with a short story due to its length - but this one does feel like a complete tale. This is because we join the love story after our couple - Quinn and Meriel - have met and fallen in love. Not that either of them are prepared to admit that just yet. Or have consummated those feelings. More fun for us as we get to read all the good bits packed into a short space!
I loved the premise for this story - it sounded hilarious - but I’ll admit to being a tiny bit concerned that Quinn might be a little bit of a wet blanket if he needed to woo someone with subterfuge and machinations. I shouldn’t have worried. Quinn was a nice, strong man who had just gone to bizarre lengths to win the woman he loved away from the other man that he feared she may love more.
Meriel was a no-nonsense, strong woman with worries about her worth and her past that gave her a true-to-life roundness to her character. I loved her. Together, she and Quinn were adorable and I was rooting for them to work things out. Especially after their time together in the parlour! Plus, extra marks for the name Quinn. It’s up there with Nick, Matt and Finn as my favourite hero names of all time!
The other thing this story did was really whet my appetite for the next (and last) in the Sinful Suitors series dealing with Baron Fulkham (who also appears in this story). When he remarks that he has neither the time nor the inclination to fall in love I laughed. Ha! Little do you know what Ms Jeffries has in store for you, Gregory!
Anyway, A Talent for Temptation is a short read that will take you less than an hour. Despite that it’s sweet and satisfying and if you’re a fan of Sabrina Jeffries, The Sinful Suitors series or just enjoyable historical romance stories, I would highly recommend this book to you. 5 stars.
This is book 4.5 in Jeffries’ Sinful Suitors series but can be read as a standalone story.
This was really just a novella, but was a very charming story. Sabrina Jeffries always does a great job, and this was no exception, though it is short. Perfect quick read for less than an hour read.
This book caught my eye while I was poking around on Netgalley looking for something to read. Sabrina Jeffries is one of those authors that I always enjoy, though I have not read every book in every series she has written. What can I say, she publishes a lot and I get distracted! I can usually follow along with the series archs, anyway, since her books tend to work well as stand alone installments.
This book, however, is a novella, and - due entirely to the issue of its length - spends quite a bit of time filling the reader in with information and catching you up with what has been going on in the overall series. There is only a scant plot, one rather rushed love scene (I won't call it a bedroom scene since it occurs on a table. It is hawt, though. Rawr), and mostly seems to serve the purpose of tying off the storyline of secondary characters.
But, like all good historical romances, there is a a dash of excitement, uncertainty of emotion, and a happily ever after. It was incredibly quick and a fun romp through a world that I really do think I should spend more time in. If for no other reason than to see spymaster Gregory get his own Happily Ever After.
A very short story. I know novellas are suppose to be short but this was very short. I felt like i walked into the middle of a story. One that had the potential to be very good. What i read i really liked but there just want enough there.
This was not one of my favorites. It wasn't because it is a novella because Sabrina Jeffries has written some outstanding ones. But in this case the characters sort of come out of nowhere, they are not very logical, the main conflict just doesn't work.
I read an ARC of this novella from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. This novella is part of Sabrina Jeffries sinful suitor series. You could read it on its own, but as the series is excellent you will most definitely want to read them all. It is quite short, so perfect for before bed reading when you need to get to sleep on time. Neither the heroine or the hero are quite what they seem, lots of action including an attempted kidnapping and a couple of very satisfying grovelling scenes. I do recommend this book as I enjoyed reading it.
A very quick read but, as usual, this author writes a very well written story withheld characters that are very well developed. Some danger and some secrets and lots of romance. Enjoyed very much.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Netgalley.
