This book blew me away! I thought it was going one way and then it would change directions. It kept me on my toes. I was fully engaged. The writing was perfection. It was up to date with current events and there was at least one character that everyone can relate to.
Received an advance review copy in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley.
This book is brilliant. It has a terrific major twist. I couldn't stop reading. The writing is fast paced and flows really well, which held my interest. I thought the story was so well thought out that it could even be a film. Read this !
This book was very intriguing, I loved the characters, easy to connect with. The book was very well written. I love Lisa's writing style. Can't wait for the next one!
The description is rather misleading. Jordan and Heather are not main charters. The focus of the story is not reflected well at all in the description.
I enjoyed this book. It really took a twist for me, early on, kept me interested as it carried through the plot, then delivered a very exciting climax with a nice ending. I found the climax exaggerated a bit too much for my liking. Hanging from the knees? That's action movie material.
I did however really like the development of Chris. I could see him being a character developed and introduced over another book or two in his future endeavors.
I think this was good quick read, well written with some mystery in a good plot with twists and surprised layered in the sub stories. I am excited to read more from the author in my future, I enjoyed her a lot.
"Everyone liked a clean-cut guy, and they tended to forget that appearances were deceiving"
One perfect lie is about Chris an intelligent man who has perfected blending in and being anyone but himself. He can blend in, do his damage and be gone before you know what hit you.
The beginning of this book was edge of your seat not knowing what was happening or coming next. Even after the huge twist they kept the suspense going with the boys story, and I enjoyed the story.
However at a point it plateaued. The story kind of stagnated. And it never really picked back up. The ending while cute it wasn't where I imagined it would go at all when I started the book. It was a decent book and I'm glad we read it. It was not my favorite tho.
This was the first book I ever read by Lisa Scottoline, but it will definitely not be the last!
I think that says a lot. It is right up there with the suspense and action that I am used to from authors like Harlan Coben, Lee Child and Michael Connelly.
I started reading this book with no idea what to expect. Based on the description of the book, I knew it appealed to me, but I had no idea what kind of story it would be. Right at the start when we get to know the main character Chris Brennan we know he is lying and not who he says he is, but it is not immediately clear why. I struggled with him as I seemed to like him and yet know something was not right, but how bad of a guy was he really?
The story contains a lot of exciting bits, making the reader want to keep on reading and even hints of romance and you just want to know how it all ends, so it is hard to put the book down.
Great read!
This was the first book written by Lisa Scottoline that I have read... and it won't be my last. A very fast paced book with lots of characters - characters that are all keeping big secrets from each other. When a new teacher comes to town he is hiding the biggest secret of all. All coming to a head in an exciting and edge of the seat ending. Thanks to Headline and NetGalley for an advance copy on this book to read and review
Review copy provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. A great beach read! I enjoyed the characters with all their secrets and lies. This almost reminded me of Big Little Lies, loosely.
The rapid staccato pace of this thriller kept me on my toes. Addressing a number of issues plaguing today's adolescents (and their parents) Scottoline reveals how easily social tendencies in this day and age can be exploited. This plot is masterfully managed to lead the reader through a plot with complex characters and leaves you contemplating the enormity of a lie and knowing that sometimes we have to embrace the changes ilife brings for the greater good and for the lesser good.
The blurb for this book is somewhat confusing as it seems to be focused on the mother of Jordan. Although she is quite an important character, she is not the main character of this book. Her son and his school mates are a big part of the story but the 'main character' role falls to Chris. From the beginning we know he is not all he seems. He gets his job at the High School very easily. From the other things he does the reader becomes very suspicious about his motives. Why is he trying to find out what boy will be the easiest to influence? What is his interest in truck hire and the materials for explosives. For the first part of the book we are torn. In some ways Chris seems to be a decent man but his actions are decidedly 'off'.
It is difficult to say more without giving away the story. It is a good read and will keep you guessing. I enjoyed it. Thanks to Netgalley & the publishers for letting me read & review this book.
Well written and very intriguing. I'll definitely look for more books by Lisa Scottoline!
I am a Lisa Scottoline fan, so I ‘m always looking to see when her next book will be published. I was fortunate to receive this one as the lazy days of summer were waning. I spent a peaceful day reading while enjoying the view of the garden and the quiet that descends once the kiddies have gone back to school.
Chris Brennan is a new teacher at Central Valley High. He is someone who easily gets along with the other teachers and knows how to engage his students. But there is more to Chris as we see him focus intently on several students. What really brought Chris to this job and this town? After the first of many twists, his true intentions are revealed and this was a fast-paced, nonstop suspenseful ride until the end. The author is so good at making you “see” characters and it is a gift that she continues to employ successfully in her books.
No spoilers here, but I can say many relevant issues are explored and that old saying that nobody really knows anyone, was oh so true here. I was lucky to have a day to keep flipping the pages, or I would have had to give up sleep to finish. Well written, engaging and I made several incorrect guesses about where the characters and plot were headed. One of the few times that I enjoy being wrong!
Thank you, Lisa Scottoline, Headline, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Lisa Scottoline never fails to deliver an author at the top of her game.
Chris Brennan applies for a teaching job and baseball coach. His credentials, references and background checks are perfect for the role and he is accepted and steps into the job right away. But although no one questions his abilities it soon becomes apparent to the reader that Chris is not who he says he is and is intact living the perfect lie.
A page turner with twists you will not believe with excitement, thrills and emotional turmoil with a little romance to complete the picture.
Great read
I am unable to provide a review at this time. Unfortunately, I DNFed this book in the first 18%. It just didn't hold my attention. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Sadly I did not enjoy this book. In fact I did not even finish it.. I hate not finishing a book but really not everyone likes every book and I'm sorry this one wasn't for me. Slow and dull and tedious .
Another good one by Scottoline. It's hard to say too much because there were surprises along the way. The book is about a possible Oklahoma City copy cat bombing. It is set within a high school and we meet several teenage boys knowing one of them is likely involved. Each family has their share of issues happening and we get to know each family, as well as the teachers at the school. It is worth reading and I'd say definitely get it if you like Scottoline's books. It won't disappoint. I would have given it five stars but found myself distracted during parts of the book. Likely it's my issue as the school year just began.
Shifting gears to another genre completely, One Perfect Lie by Lisa Scottoline promises to keep the reader glued to the pages. Lisa is one of those authors who keeps writing good book after good book. You just know you’re in for a literary adventure when you pick up her books.
Single mother Heather would do anything for her son, Jordan. His talent on the high-school baseball field could be his only ticket to college. Yet there are those in Jordan’s team who have the potential to lead him down a darker path. Not least their coach – a new teacher with a dark, hidden agenda of his own.
But there is no such thing as a perfect façade. And under pressure, the cracks will soon appear…
Who? What? What happens? I need to know more.
This was a great tale of a mother and childs relationship. It was gripping, well thought out and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a thrilling read
Lisa Scottolini is one of my favorite authors and her series with the female lawyers is my absolute favorite by her. I read her stand-alone books too but they don't compare with the series. That being said, this was a great read.
This stand alone starts a bit slow but after a while you understand who the characters are and what they're trying to do. It's very complex, which makes for a good read.
Another great book. When reading this author's book I get to the point that I just can't put down. She wrote another story that touches people in different ways.
