I love this series! It's my comfort reading for when I'm travelling: the short length makes me feel like I can get stuck into a story even if I don't have much time, the chattiness is comforting, and it's an easy (though not dumb) read.
The characters, from my favourite to least favourite:
Michelle, a book editor who's just getting into BDSM after a divorce. She feels real to me, and deals with her problems like an adult. She gets into difficult situations through no fault of her own, and while often her hands are tied (no pun intended) and things don't go as she wants them to, she's not a pushover.
Taneesha, who works as a games company and ends up dealing with all kinds of Male Bullshit including getting doxed. I don't usually like descriptions of characters' clothing and hairstyles, but she's a badass black woman and I liked when she got dolled up.
Aditi, an author whose debut novel is about to be published. I thought I'd identify with Aditi most as she's a writer, but she frustrated me. She's such a brat, and whines whenever Michelle (her editor) asks her how her second novel is going because whhhhhyyyy should she have to write? (Because you're a writer, bitch. Get it done.)
Christina, a PA to a Hollywood movie star. She doesn't feel real to me, and neither does her boss/lover, Vivi.
Elli, a cosplayer. If I didn't know better, I'd think Elli was 12 years old. I couldn't relate to her at all and found her childish and annoying.
The books are a nice mix of all the characters, and towards the end I feel like they focused more on Michelle and Taneesha, which suited me because they were the best characters. I hope there's a season 2.
I got this book for free on NetGalley and I didn’t realize it was an erotica short story. It would probably have been better if I knew the whole backstory but it was enjoyable. This genre is new to me but I liked that there were geeky elements to it.
Starts with funny not-spoilers, leading into a brief commentary on Buffy and Angel. Even though these are short chapters, there’s always room for some humor. The rest of this episode consisted of long phone talks to relieve stress and a couple of sex scenes. . . to relieve stress.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
I have been loving this serial and been busy making my way through them all, in Episode #5 we read as Christina possibly has finally found her match in the love department with Hollywood Actress Vivi. What will happen though when Vivi wants to go public and announce to the world that Christina is her arm candy? Will Christina go along with Vivi to the TMZ awards and don a dress, something that she always vowed never to do - all in the name of love? We also get the beginning of Taneesha's story which will roll over more into the next few episodes. In Beware of Rage Bait, Taneesha takes to getting vengeance through playing World of Warcraft and destroying those in her way after feeling like she is being ostracized at work for being not only female but also race comes into play in Beware of Rage Bait as well. I have to admit out of all the episodes; this was one of my least favorites. If you are looking for a quick read and have read the previous episodes, then this is the series for the inner geek in all of us.
This serial keeps on delivering with geeky fun and frustrations! Authors keep packing it in!
Another captivating episode! I love the depths of both their friendships and their feminism, as they challenge each other to grow, in both big and small ways, with support and understanding.
I thought that maybe I was finally getting into this series because episode 4 seemed a bit better than normal to me but I just didn't like this one at all. I don't know it just feels like nothing is really happening, which I guess is realistic in a way but also not very exciting to read about. Also there are just more and more sex scenes with every episode it seems [the first couple only had one each and this one is up to three] so I feel like I'm doing a lot of skipping and with a story that's only 25 pages that's not good.
Also I feel like they draw lines in weird places with regard to what media is problematic / annoying to watch. Like in this episode they tell Taneesha she probably shouldn't watch the Walking Dead because they kill off the majority of their black characters, which is totally understandable. But then they tell her to ' just rewatch Game of Thrones instead' and I'm just like really? Game of Unnecessary Rape? Game of White Savior Complexes? Really? I know that no show is perfect but Game of Thrones in particular is a looong way from it and I know I'm not the only one that thinks that. I mean, watch what you want but it just seemed like a weird inconsistency to me. I think I'm getting too nit-picky with these, maybe I should stop reading them...
